When you are young and full of energy, living abroad is an adventure, it is fun and easy. But when you are old, then is different. . You just want a quiet day, and hope that the local hospital has good doctors and it doesn't cost a lot of money. And maybe you get to feel that the important thing is that you do not die alone in a country that is far from home. I'm sorry, but that's my opinion ... Maybe im wrong and some elderly people just party every night with beautiful companions and surfing on the beach during the day .. Spend money like crazy and always have the health of a bull ..... Good luck to all, but not always a country far from your home is the best choice

In Malaysia, if you speak English, it's already enough for you to live here. However, if you still consider learning the local language is very recommended because people here will treat you with extra attention because you show interest in our language and culture. Welcome, expats!
@@XenoXvi Learning a country's language is no sign of respect. There a lot of expats that speak the native language but trash the country or missionaries that learn the language just to proselytize. Otoh, I know some expats who hardly speak the local language but speak glowingly about their host country and treat the locals with respect.

Zayda Zay, I'm a 70-year old Singaporean. 30+ years ago, I bought a freehold 700 sq ft apartment midway up the Genting Highland for holiday and retirement. I can hardly wait for my wife to retire so we may apply for MM2H. Like Singaporeans who bought homes in various parts of Malaysia, I am not ashamed to say that I much prefer to retire in Malaysia than in Singapore. Yours is a quiet and beautiful country with no earthquakes, typhoons or other natural disasters. Zayda, your warm heart says much about you - you're a good Malaysian and neighbor.

I am a Malaysian who once worked in England (a country I am still fond of) and would like to endorsed, unreservedly, everything that is mentioned in this video! In fact, last Boxing Day, the family had lunch at this Italian restaurant named after the famous film director, Federico Fellini - hence Fellini Ristorante - which is located in a big conurbation (adjacent to Kuala Lumpur City) called Petaling Jaya. Its owner is Tony from Rome, married to a local. He’s a swell guy, who, at the end of a fabulous Italian meal told me this, “Malaysia is the best country in the world to live in at this moment!” Esattamente, SIgnore! I can’t agree more, so, if you want the good life then looked no further south of the Equator! Fellini himself, were he alive today, would have qualified further by saying that here you’ll find “La Dolce Vita!”

The westerners who got million of dollars or euros, they can have a comfortable life here in Malaysia. In 10 years time we will see more foreigner in Malaysia settle down.
I was going to move to Malaysia on the MM2H visa before they made it ridiculously expensive 2 or 3 years ago. Thr business visa is not an option either since most people don't want to have to own a company just to be allowed to live in a country, especially if they are looking for MORE freedom, not less. However, if Malaysia creates a reasonable option for financially independent remote workers, traders, etc, I would definitely consider Malaysia again.
As soon as more expats moving to Malaysia, cost of living and many other things are going to change. There is no cheap and easy living country to move to nowadays. Don't forget when that time come, the local will be effected the most. The hospital bills, rent, and electricity are more likely to be the first sign of things that change.
That's why must let in foreigners and expats at a control amount before costs of living gets too high for the locals. Preferably let in control amount of rich businessmans, who will come and create jobs for the locals, is the ideal thing to do, instead of letting in mediore expats in droves that will compete for jobs and bring up the costs of living.
Yes you are right in terms of Thailand where tourism is their main source of income. While Malaysia, tourism is like number 10 on the list. So they wont screw the expats and affect the economy for the locals like in Thailand.
Happening in JB where for many years locals complaining Singaporeans are pushing the price up for everything. Some street food in JB now average RM8 and even Rm10 a serving! Jalan Alor in KL prices are ridiculous that only tourists can afford.
Exactly. To these expats, the cost of living now is affordable n cheap, whereas for locals, it's freaking expensive relative to our average incomes... Sigh..
Welcome bro.. however we are not a country like Thailand that you can party every night with different women.. that I think the cons if you decide to live in Malaysia
Yes let go to Mal / everything is cheaper compare to Thailand. Just car price is a bit higher due to the TAX. The weather in Mal is similar to the south of Thailand.(rainy) Ringit is weak against USD Mal is clean, tidy and beautiful. it is perfect for retirees.
Malaysia had been under Muslim leadership since independence in 1957. The majority Malays had establish a good governance practice that are envied by other non Muslim countries.
Thailand, esp Bangkok has a rather high cost of living currently, particularly for food / eating out... This is so surprising since it wasn't too long ago that food cost there was much cheaper than in Malaysia, given the comparatively lower average salary in Thailand... Accomodation n transportation costs are neither cheap too anymore... So, we welcome everyone to experience Malaysia, Truly Asia as coincidentally, it's Visit Malaysia Year 2020... But sadly, covid19 had caused an abrupt stop for international travels, including in Malaysia... Hopefully, next year the ban will be lifted...
I agreed!.....its all bcuz there too many traveler visit bkk!....and economic boom!... ....also this economy just boom to the rich...the poors remain same!.... Make every thing expensive.....less cheap street foods.....but more the expensive restuarant!... ....but we have better train now!...🤔

The biggest obstacle for any new expats in thailand is the language barrier. It took me 4 months to learn the thai language wherelse it only took me less than a month to learn malay. Besides malay, i learned to speak cantonese, tamil and iban. KL has its traffic jams but not as bad as bangkok. I love indian food especially the one in indian restaurants and not the tasteless indian food in mamak restaurants. The chinese food in malaysia has its unique taste compared to the one i tasted in china. Things are cheaper because of the value of the malaysian currency compared to the US dollar. The only thing i should be careful is not to tell the muslims in malaysia that i am a jew. I know muslims here in malaysia hate jews. I have no problem making friends with non muslims and i find indians in malaysia are very friendly and helpful towards foreigners.
@El Darden so what is the conduct of a jewish child in school? What is the conduct of a jewish grocery store owner? What is the conduct of a jewish housewife? The buddhist in myanmar lost their patience on rohingyas. Do you justify the killing of thousands of rohingyas in myanmar.

Each country has their pros and cons. But language barrier is an issue in thailand. In malaysia foreigners need to buy properties which are not competing with local demands. Which means 800k to 1m ringgit range. But food is affordable here of course. Japanese food could be more expensive if you go to a fancy restaurant serving wahyu beef that is for sure.
The manipulation of the baht by the Bank of Thailand, the never ending waffling by Thai Immigration on Visas for long term residents, the smoke and pollution here in Chiang Mai and in Bangkok those are my reasons for pulling up stakes and heading to where my person and dollar are appreciated.

I would dispute the claim that Malaysia has great infrastructure. Have you seen people being sardined in carriages on the Komuter line in KL? It is a friendly country and Tioman Island is a slice of paradise. It is definitely more family orientated without the vibrant bar scene in Saigon. I can see the attraction for expats/retirees.

I kinda digress on the education status of Malaysia. Malaysia's education is still lacking behind. You can see this based on the PISA test results for 2018. Let´s be honest. Several countries currently are competing with Thailand. And it is true, the circumstances in Thailand are deteriorating. But THE one big asset, advantage or even trump (not Donald), are the girls. It is hard to find this kind of girls in the competing countries. That is why -still and despite all the disadvantages - foreigners come to Thailand and even settle down there. And it is true as well, that foreigners /expats are leaving the country in droves - mostly for the Philippines, which of cause has it´s own little disadvantages!

Actually, Malaysia & Thailand are just the same. In Article 153 gives Malay & natives of Sabah & Sarawak quotas in civil service, scholarships & public education. For example civil service is 80-90% dominated by Bumiputera. There is also universities that were created just for Bumiputera. And certain universities course only can be enrolled by Bumiputera.

I've lived in Thailand for a while. As an expat you have zero rights. You must reapply for your retirement visa every year, with no guarantee it will be renewed. The paperwork is never ending. You must have 800k Baht (about $23000) in the bank, which is an enormous sum for a person living on a pension. You are not allowed to own a house or land, are forbidden to work, and must report your address every 90 days, or risk being permanently deported. There is even a law that requires you to report going on holiday for more than three days, though it is not enforced everywhere. You have no additional rights if you are married to a Thai. In the eyes of the gov, it means nothing. They can legally deny you a visa regardless. In many tourist places you are automatically charged double what the locals pay, for almost everything. Many doctors charge you double for the same service as locals get. Gov hospitals charge you 2 to 4 times. The national parks make foreigners pay up to 10x what the locals pay. It doesn't matter if you are a legal resident or not The list goes on....
Internet is not phenomenal. Oh you got that way wrong. Malaysia has the SEA region's slowest internet download speed per cost. Thailand home fiber charges 1Gbps at THB899 while my Maxis Home Fiber Internet is 100Mpbs at RM136. It's a tenth of the speed in Thailand and yet cost more than Thai home fiber. Just this point that needs correcting. The food is PHENOMENAL!!!

I think if you have enough monthly income to meet the Malaysian income requirement for applying for a visa, you will be able to meet the Thailand income requirement as well. If I understand the income requirement correctly, if you have about $2,350 USD (someone please correct me if I got it wrong) net income, you will be able to meet the financial requirement to apply for a Malaysian retirement visa. And this amount also will satisfy the Thailand ($2,100ish) retirement visa's financial requirement. So, at least in this aspect, in theory, you can apply for retirement visa for both countries. If things worked out, then there isn't any problem of trying to decide which country to retire to when you can hop between the two countries at your leisure....
Malaysia has muslim as thr first religion but our muslim brothers and sisters are very modern and open. (Unlike middle east) So no worries, we all respect the religion of one another :)
#1 Malaysia potentially it can be 100x better than SG which includes a GDP of maybe 10x SG. I hate SG in many ways because they treat people like dirt through their check points, they like to scare people with their plastic M15 which should be banned to open carry no matter who they are they are breaking SG and international law.
With the latest Malaysian Budget 2020, the government has lowered the house price to RM600,000 (USD150,000) for foreigner to buy and qualify for the Malaysia My Second Home 10 years' renewal visa beginning January 2020 onwards. If you have a minimum of USD150K, you can buy a house in Malaysia to qualify for this retirement scheme in Malaysia for foreigner. The Hong Kong people are grabbing up cheap houses in some of the cheap tourist destination area like Penang, Melaka and Johore (annex to Singapore by road).
@Walters ProperMan Those who chose Malaysia is mainly because of 2 reasons. One is the weather, which is summer all year round. Elderly people do not like cold weather. Secondly, Malaysia has no natural disaster, except for flooding during the rainy season. The Hong Kongers have the 3rd reason, that is Malaysian Chinese speaks the same dialect (Cantonese) as they are. Another reason is the food which are almost the same as Hong Kong. They can have additional variety which are the Indian and Malay foods which they don't get in Hong Kong. I have been following several Hong Kong UA-camrs and these were what they said.
@Walters ProperMan For nice and clean beaches, you've to go Tioman islands, Langkawi islands and beaches in Sabah, like Semborna Island. However, I'm not sure I'm sure if it safe. Several years ago, there were several kidnapping in this island by the terrorists from the Philippines.
Yes i agree..
Sigh..

@El Darden leave the scriptures aside. What are you going to do when you meet a jew who is an israeli citizen?
Street fighter language barrier aside, you will never have any problem revealing you are Jew in Thailand.

Most of what you have commented are true but I wonder why it takes so long for foreigners to discover Malaysia, a place truly Asia.
Many are leaving for Cambodia and Vietnam..
They are not tied of thailand the thais are trying to change their image.
Right now Thailand is still my preference.
@John Sandvik agreed.. Most of them are likely looking for "fun". Tickle here and there 😂😂😂
Age 63 and a Brit, live just within Bangkok (Bangna) - Rent a 34 sqm 3 year old condo with a pool (rent 8 k THB a month), Food 50-300 THB a meal per person, Good WIFI 500 THB a month, Electricity 4 THB a unit - whats the equivalent in KL, Malaysia?
We lived in Bangna too
Yes, Malaysia is the best! Period!
I'm malaysian.. Honestly, I've never in my life step my foot in front of MALAYSIA'S ICONIC TOWER KLCC.. I only managed to see KLCC through google and youtube.. Ive studied in KUALA LUMPUR previously
Agreed with most of it. Although, there were some lengthy water cuts in some parts of KL. Also, mobile signal can be spotty, with various providers, even in cities like KL.
Great info video Chris!!!

What's the problem with muslim country not that Malaysia banned pork serving foods also?
I would dispute the claim that Malaysia has great infrastructure. Have you seen people being sardined in carriages on the Komuter line in KL? It is a friendly country and Tioman Island is a slice of paradise. It is definitely more family orientated without the vibrant bar scene in Saigon. I can see the attraction for expats/retirees.
It is great infrastructure, i mean compared to other southeast asian, eastern european, south American countries, Malaysia has the best
Hahah sardines in train - well boy have u been in any other part of the world? I mean really? It happens everywhere if peak hours say Tokyo train duhhhh... To say like sardines is over the top , m Malaysian myself , you are definitely over react or exaggerated.
Trains in tokyo also can have similar situations esp during peak hours

Malaysia is a Muslim country, while TH is Buddhist, they have a completely different feeling, if you visit. Socially, if you go around Malaysia you don't meet the same welcoming smiley faces of TH, it's a more serious country. Sure money wise, visa wise, etc, it makes sense to move there but I would be happier in TH because I like it better.
Thank God everyone has a different opinion

I kinda digress on the education status of Malaysia. Malaysia's education is still lacking behind. You can see this based on the PISA test results for 2018. Malaysia is ranked behind both Vietnam and Singapore, however, it's better when compared to Thailand and Indonesia.

Paul Ehrlich- nah Philippines has more advantages
Is it pride for domestic women to be juggled by foreigners?
Interesting. Malaysia is now on my bucket list
Malaysia, we still have that little bit of Britishness in us. Have to thank the British Empire for that.

So what? You expect preferential treatment equal to native population?
There are lots of opportunities available for others to flourished.
You expect to flourished under special circumstances, is that it, when realistically u n those, with same inspirations did not earned that rights.
Grow up n stay off from duch imbecile notions in yr mind or else pack yr stuff n head back to wherever yr ancestry originates n find out what sorts of welcome awaits you there, capisch.

Correction.. There is only ONE university for Bumiputera that's UiTM, but there other and a lot of universities non-Bumi can choose.. Still non-Bumi can still study in UiTM for Post Graduate..
Take it or leave it or better still..leave and go back to where ever hole ur ancestors came from.

you miss out other number, Number nine All westerm Especially foreigner from Europe and USA, they come to Malaysia and will enjoy free visa on arrival for 90 days ( 3 months ) thailand only given one month visa.
For travelers or expatriates from overseas who want to stay in Malaysia... Honestly, if you want to avoid an unhealthy life or want to give up the bad habits of an extreme social life and want to start a healthy lifestyle, Malaysia is the perfect place to your family.
In Malaysia laws and regulations are still under control if we value all of the extreme unhealthy social activities that exist in some other countries. all the fun and experience you are looking for in those countries, you can also find it in malaysia, but the government and authorities in malaysia still maintain the boundaries, monitor and prevent extreme activities except those allowed and approved. Welcome to Malaysia 😊❤🇲🇾👍👍👍
It doesn't matter if you are a legal resident or not
The list goes on....
I am thai .I don't care expats will leave thailand or not .I love my country If you don't like just go somewhere else.
100Mbps Maxis home fiber is rm89

I don't see any expat moving from Thailand to Malaysia. You make it sound like there's a flood of people on a transmigration.
well i don't see you walking around malaysia . You make it seems easy for them to walk
(Unlike middle east)
So no worries, we all respect the religion of one another :)
Things have changed since 2 years ago. After the pandemic policies have changed.
Believe me, one reason is enough for you to come to Malaysia. FOOD.
You've search for Semborna Island in UA-cam to view videos produced by vacationers who have been there.
Kenny K I was just at the My Second Home web page and they’re still have it listed at 1M RM to qualify for real estate purchase. Do you know when this Law is going to change?
@@poopingwhilestanding5801 It's just started in this year 2020 according to the government's latest budget 2020. There're thousands of unsold houses previously when they fixed it at RM1m = USD250k. That's the reason the government have lowered it to RM600k
@Walters ProperMan Foreigners come to Malaysia for retirement visa, not work visa. You can't get such low currency exchange in Canada or Australia. Cost of living too so much lower with good infrastructure and cheap food.
