Been a few years since I've river fished and have studied quite a few of these videos lately. Went out today and landed a 22 inch 4.5 lb hatchery steelhead today with sliding float, white jig head, and mad river pink worm. Thanks for so many informative vids!
So, in using jigs and worms, is it like we do with flies? We always buy three of any fly. One for the tree, one for your friend's ear or leg, and one for the fish.
New subscriber here, awesome videos, I have most of this knowledge as i have been learning for some 30 plus years, I am so old school. But having the choice to learn new stuff is awesome and with you guys reinforcing what is already in my head is great. I will purchase from your store as I prefer to help the small outfits compared to corporate stores. Get that fixed bobber in the store and process some more blue tailed worms. Thumbs up guys
Definitely sold some of your worms the other day watched 5 guys hammer a hole with jigs and beads for hours without a fish I walk up with my addicted worms and landed 2 back to back can't beat it
Ne to steelhead fishing in WI and its been cold the last couple of weeks. My slides and braided line freeze up after a few casts. Switched to a rod with mono and that helpped. Does the teflon coated braid freeze up the same way?
hey! if you had to make far casts with the 1/2 oz bobber, really whip it, would you go to a slightly heavier rod or stay with the 9'9'' 6-12 lbs? would you go up to 8-17 lbs? can the lighter rod handle casting heavier stuff well?
Anyway I could ask you guys questions and have you actually reply? Been steelhead fishing for about 15 years, have caught some but would love to step my game up. Washington resident, but from the foothills. Love your videos as they have inspired me to try to learn how to catch steelhead this way. I am way out of my element. Usually fish with spoons and spinners. So answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated.
Can sliding floats be used with a baitcast rod/reel (assuming you can find an appropriate rod)? Spinning reels are somewhat clunky on longer drifts, and centerpin reels seem hard to cast, hard to fight fish, limited to float fishing, and way too expensive. Seems like the only issue might be in deeper holes and whether the bobber stopper can slide through the smaller eyes on casting rods during casts.
I use a sliding float on all three of those reels, but river fishing I am biased into using a centerpin. IMO they have the best line control, but baitcasters are practically the same in that category. Again IMO, yes centerpin are hardest to cast but they are SO fun and having instruction from a friend who knows how to use them will speed you along considerably (I did not, it was a long hill). Deeper holes and baitcaster may actually be better, with that long line sliding through your float on a hook set you can pick up WAY more line quickly than with a centerpin. Baitcaster = practical Centerpin = sport
I’m surprised you put on a bumper when using a sliding float. The braid really does not spook the fish, you aren’t limiting how deep you can set your stop and then also you don’t have your bumper which is flourocarbon or mono which sinks, dragging your bobber where as if you tied right to braid your entire line to your bumper is floating

Awesome this was very helpful 🔥🔥🔥
Do you cocked the jig with worm like a regular jig
can you use your setup and catch some fish as well
great video
This or fixed float is really the same as far as fishing depth. . Just this allows the you to fish deeper water then your rod length.

How fast to you set the hook when you feel small nibbs on the rod ? do you wait an let it play with the worm, or right away ?
Medium light medium or medium heavy rod power?
How do you decide which size of jig head to use?
