Nice fish! Was thinking about some rainbow fishing with a friend. I’ve never done it but I think I will now. Bought some worms this am and then saw your thumb nail beside my brown trout site. Loved it, thanks and cheers. Browntroutguy
Good job! There are so many excellent tributaries to Lake Erie, this is just one of them, and they are all full of Steelhead right now. I really like your technique, and will try it the first opportunity I have in a couple weeks. I usually wait until the winter weather sets in and keeps most of the competition on the couch.
Boom, nice start and great battle to kick off the vid and a couple very nice catches. You are doing great with the GoPro and hope you're feeling better soon. Awesome job Rick!
I’ve done this with great success on brown trout in big class A rapids . Rainbow trout will grab it too which makes sense! Love the “swallow your pride “ haha

Nice fall run rainbow. We don't have steelhead in great lakes. Remember this ppl: NO SALT NO STEEL... A true steelhead comes from saltwater to freshwater then back to saltwater til following yr.
@fsupoutdoors the only difference is with them. Steelhead and Rainbows are basically the same fish just one spends half of it life in saltwater while the others live in freshwater. So when you take the saltwater out of the picture, there just a regular rainbow...
@fsupoutdoors the only reason ppl call the fall run rainbows steelhead is because of a money grab situation. because back in early 70's when they started stocking the lakes with them. Made ppl think that their really catching steelhead n not just a normal rainbow like they are.

Love it. People overthink fishing a lot. I’ve caught more fish of all species including a salmon in a trib off Lake Ontario, off a night crawler, that I was told wouldn’t work. The only thing is it was hard to get past perch, suckers, smaller trout and bass to get to them
Forty years ago all we used was night crawlers or eggs for steelhead and we caught tons of fish. This was way before all the jigs and floats and plastics we all use now
Hi again. Wanted to add something last time and forgot! Remembered as I watched the episode again. I use a gp black9 and had the option of mounting it on my chest or on my head. Watching your video reminded me why I chose a head mount. No arms in the way and no having to change hands all the time for a better view. Mind you I did film a 30” brown only to realize I had the gp on backwards!! I was learning and it was my 2nd time out. But I’d have to say, the head mount was better for me. And that picture you took with your camera? Your viewers couldn’t see the fish. Just a thought and to each his own of course. Waiting for a rain so the water depth is correct. Again thanks for the video, can’t wait to get out and get a video from it. Cheers, brown trout guy
Yeah this was only my second attempt with a go pro. The first attempt was a head mount and the footage was so bad that we scrapped the video. We usually have a camera man which makes things easier. I do appreciate the advice though!
@@fsupoutdoors good afternoon. When I put the gp on my cap/head at the car, I take a quick 5 second video. I look out at the water and I also put something on the ground in front of me and video it. When I was able to be out fishing like that I never left home without 3-4 dozen night crawlers. If taken numerous steelhead and salmon on night crawlers.
Try half a crawler and smaller hooks as well, although the whole thing will definitely work. I like to use the slender half of the crawler and whacky rig it on a size 10 hook in low gin clear water they can’t resist the wiggle.
That is the one of the best methods for any fresh water fish bass cats trout , no weight or bobber just cast out and hold on, for big bass I use 2 night crawlers, cast if they don't hit on the drop bounce it back in and try again , biggest bass I caught like this was 9 plus pounds,

I use the European nightcrawlers and not the Canadian because they seem to be the perfect size plus the European nightcrawlers look like a giant red worm on steroids plus salmon enjoyed them as well. Nut rods are very underrated rod not many people use them.
