- How to restore hard reset Google motorola nexus 6 android lollipop/marshmallow to original factory settings. Can't unlock Nexus 6? Wipe all your user data, wipe the cache partition, complete a factory hard reset. Perform a factory hard reset using fastboot mode bootloader recovery option to enter the android system recovery, then select wipe data/factory reset and all data will be wiped from your device SO BACK UP ALL DATA FIRST!. While any data stored in your Google Play Account will be restored after entering the welcome screen and signing back into your Google account, all apps and their associated data should be restored. This option may help you if your device is not responding, locked up, frozen, unresponsive, not working, screen is stuck, not booting or stuck on x logo, forgot pattern, pin, or password hardware and operating system issues. If this don't help then watch the videos below to troubleshoot even further by flashing your device or use methods below if your rooted.

1) If your Nexus 6 is on, power it off.
2) Press and hold down the Volume button then press and hold down the Power button at the same time until the device powers back on. You should see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
3) Press Volume Down until you see the Recovery mode option.
4) Press the Power button to select Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red triangle and black exclamation mark inside the triangle.
5) Now again, press and hold down the Power button and press the Volume Up key one time until you get into the android system recovery.
6) Use the volume key down to scroll to (wipe data/factory reset) and press the Power button to select it.
7) Use the volume down key again to Scroll down to (Yes-erase all user data) and press the Power button to select it.
If your nexus 6 becomes unresponsive while trying this method, you can restart it by holding down the power button for several seconds.

Everyone seems to make up their own methods for getting into recovery and bootloader and key combinations although they do vary slightly should all be the exact same as what you described for getting from the recovery mode to the factory data reset screen the Second Step that you noted which is to hold power and tap the up button is the most critical part I'm so happy to have quit on your video thank you.

I've followed all the steps like you said,but after the welcome screen my phone asks me to connect to wifi and after putting the password new screen pop ups saying checking connections this may take a while, this screen stays forever

I was asked to do a software update from 5.0 to 5.1 and on restarting the phone it got stuck in a restart loop. every time I try it always switches to "barcode" and its not letting me change or select it with the power key or volume key
Oh I think I had that happen before, I forget exactly how I got around it
I'm stuck in a bloody boot loop and have done this step 3 times now. received the phone updated the stock Google apps then proceeded to update to 5.1 ota before I would have moved on to the rest. after installing 5.1 at the end was an adroid with a red exclamation mark, held the power button and now it's stuck on android is updating. optimizing apps /125 and keeps repeating this process.

Hi Jamie, is there anyway for me to unlock bootloader without turn on the USB debugging mode. I accidentally relock it and now I'm not able to do anything. The only thing my phone can do is go to the fastboot mode. If I go to the recovery mode, the twrp stucked on the screen and I can't do anything. Do you have any way to go back to the recovery stock?
By the way, I forgot to mention that I lost all my data and the OS. I tried to wipe all data and accidentally check on the internal storage, so I am not able to turn on the USB debugging mode by traditional way

I just rec. a Verizon Nexus 6 from someone off of ebay. When I am trying to login to the phone, I am being told "This device was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google account PREVIOUSLY SYNCED ON THIS DEVICE." I have never had an account on this device so I can't do that. I did another factory reset and am still getting the same message. I have contacted the seller, but seriously doubt he will give me his google login so I can proceed. Any suggestions?
Mykal Parent If you did a factory reset then you should be good to go. You should ask him if he rooted it?
We got it figured out. Apparently a new security feature for 5.1 requires that if you do a factory reset you must login with an account that has been previously synced on that device. Luckily the seller was nice enough to work with me and had a temporary password that we were able to use. It was a real inconvenience.

I have the same issue, followed this video and tried all items but still get a message saying this device was reset, sign in with a google account that was previously synced on this device. Have the email address that was used but not the password, so thought I could just reset the password but I still get the same message and this phone is useless. Did you find out a way to fix this issue by chance????

I'm having an issue with my Nexus 6. I got it for christmas and it has been working great till up until a week ago. From then, the phone has been turning itself off several times during the day and I don't know why. Sometimes it is when i'm using it and sometimes when it is just in my pocket. I don't know the reason why but it makes a sort of crackling noise before it switches. Even when I put the phone into Safe Mode it happens. I did a factory reset but it hasn't really changed much.
Is a Hard Rest the same as a factory reset?
Do you have any suggestions?

I did the recovery mode reset and I'm stuck on the black screen with little android guy and his guts spinning and it says erasing but isn't doing anything else....any thoughts?

For some reason, I'm unable to turn on my Nexus 6. I can charge it, and a flashing battery appears on the screen, or I can go in the Flastboot Flash Mode. i tried to reset it, but when I get to the Google logo, it comes back to the battery-flashing screen. I don't know what to do...
+Holo Unicorn I would keep trying to power it on, try pressing the button quickly and for longer periods of time, sounds like it might be bricked but sometimes you can get it to come up you have to keep messing with the power button and coiling keys to try and wake it up. Also watch some other UA-cam videos to see if they help at all
I'm trying to do a cache wipe, but when I enter recovery mode I can't get the menu. Pressing and holding the power button and volume up results in a reboot.

I've been trying this but it doesn't work. My phone never gets past step 6. The little android guy doesn't even show up on my screen and the start logo is small-text-like the words at the bottom and in the center of the screen. I can turn it off but it just skips the google screen and just goes back to the bootload screen. I can't select start or any of the other things, not even factory. Bootloader log just says multiple times that it 'failed to validate boot image: ret=-1" and "Fastboot Reason: Fall-Through from normal boot mode" If you could help me that would be awesome. Cause I need this phone can't afford to get a new one at the moment
not sure why it's not working. You might need to actually flash new firmware on it, I have other videos showing how to do that.

+3iraqia78 I would try and reset it one more time if it doesn't work you might have to flash your phone like force flash the phone if that don't work then your phone might be damaged are having a hardware problem not allowing for the software itself or the software recovery to work
Dude you should definitly give a headsup on how charged the phone battery should be...!!
