‘Misty Menace’ from Donkey Kong Country was at its most effective when it was first heard in the level “Stop & Go Station.” Scary indestructible red-eyed Rock Crocs rush at you with blinding speed unless you stop em dead in their tracks….but only temporarily! You never forget moments like that in what’s otherwise a kid friendly game!
Tomb of the Ancients from Rayman 2 scarred me so much when i was a kid i muted the sound everytime i played that level, even now as an adult the soundtrack still sends chills down my spine.
So it wasn't just me!? To this day, Tomb of the Ancients is the only track that unsettled me so much I had to put it on mute. Even nowadays if I get to that level I at least turn the volume way down.
The most recent game Kirby and The Forgotten Land has such a creepy atmosphere despite being adorable and beautifully crafted to look pleasant. It's very obvious to see that humanity was once alive until something came along and destroyed everything.
I'm genuinely surprised that "Eternal Echo of the Thrilling Tour-our-our" isn't on here. The way it's used is absolutely chilling, especially during the Chaos Elfilis boss fight. It's nice to see Kirby 64 getting a shoutout here though :)

I watched Tats religiously back in middle school and early high school. This is the first upload I’ve seen since then and I graduated college last year. To know they’re still going strong brings me so much warmth inside.

It's surprising how many platform games, normally associated the kid friendly fun, canhave such dreadful sounding tracks at certain parts. I don't think many of them were intentional to be as creepy, except maybe A Hat In Time. That sweet game definetly wanted to pay homage to platformers with scary vibes in a certain level.
I only wish the Sly games would count as a platforming game because stage 4 with the Contessa has some constant music that is played throughout the game and you have to deal with it all the time. The one mission that just makes you stand on absolute edge with this music playing is when. You are to follow the Contessa and pick off her guards one by one to pick pocket her. It raises so anxiety and intensity of the entire mission and stage.
out of all of these the undead song of conkers bad fur day terrified me the most its just something about the droning constant shriek of the synth rising and dropping subtlety
That always gave me a panic. Especially since it feels like the zombies are about to lunge at you. That music always gave me a sense of dread and it’s a chapter I had to get my brother to beat lol though he needed my help beating the level since he sucked at the Mr barrel lol
The music in the third level of Lollipops feels almost too atmospheric for something like Action 52. Whenever I hear it, it gives me the mental image of traveling through a bleak, abandoned town, that once held bustling people and genuine life, but the only thing that echoes throughout it are dissonant church bells... Also I've heard the reason it begins to glitch out is because the game starts reading graphics/level data as music, so that's cool.
Yeah the sound chip is fucked, so the music glitches up when your character moves and bashes enemies. This is what happens when three people are told to churn out this cart in a few months!
I love how accurate this list is lol. For once I actually played majority of the games so I understand the feeling of dread anxiety and nervousness these levels gave me XD
The groans in the Creepy Castle tombs scared me a lot when I was young. It doesn’t anymore, but one track that does scare me after hearing it was both the normal Queen Vanessa’s Manor and when Queen Vanessa chases you. I don’t have A Hat in Time, but my brother does. But I don’t let it get to me because I still love the game.

That BGM loop is actually creepy/chilling at the least and even kind of scary, objectively, but a weirdo like me laughs at it like some kind of funny joke instead of being unnerved by it for some reason… Action 52 on both NES and Sega Genesis have a below-average soundtrack, imo, so I’m not surprised that it made it here xD (don’t get me started with Action 52 Force One and Action 52 Skater; It cracks me up, LOL) Still a good entry, though :)!

i think another kirby theme that could fit should be the "eternal echo of the thrilling tour" with the "and here we are". there just something about how fecto forgo/fecto elfilis had to endure years with being treated as a lab experiment and then as an attraction, only for then be left behind in a decaying world with the voice of the facility malfunctioning and having to listen to that voice over and over again for the rest of eternity with both their body and mind just wasting away

Dispite most platformers being bright and colourful, it interesting how there's something creepy lurking in one of the platformers in different ways. Creepy music certainly does add to that ambience, giving it more of that creepy feel. With SEGA Sonic games, can't think of anything creepy from the games themselves but Gerald Robotnik in SA2B.
Sweet another tats video. Spooky chapter in conker always got me a panic due to the atmosphere of the place your practically alone and the music doesn’t help especially when it suddenly drops you just get a sense of dread. The best horror are always from places where you least expected that’s why I feel like in kids game they effectively capture horror well since you almost never expect it If you ever add a part 2 I recommend hearing the original personal music at the hospital it got censored in the USA because in the Japanese version you hear people screaming making it feel like the enemies are killing the patients. What’s more messed up it’s the first “dungeon”

I swear the river twigz never gets any better. the more you hear it, the more it sinks in of how distorted and disturbing the place is. To me nothing else tops this song to this day
The mansion part after killing conkers bat ancestor is truly one of the most terrifying things I've witnessed in a game. The graveyard ambience is scary to but you described the dread of being alone in a mansion with zombies so well. Along with helplessness when getting the key to the door, anxiety inducing as one false move will have to make you do it over again, paranoia and just wanting to get out of there. I wanted Banjo and Kazooie to be with me and Conker so bad in that moment. As we all know they're most likely dead by that point sadly which makes it scarier. When Conker opened the door i thought shut up and get out of there. I'm done with that music, zombies and kid laughs. Being on that barrow rolling out of that spooky chapter with the twelve tales music was so satisfying though.
Before I watch, I'm gonna add one my creepier tracks if it isn't on this list - The Hall of Mirrors (Twinkle Park) from Sonic Adventure 1. It stood out as such a weird piece of music compared to the rest of the soundtrack and being chased by Zero through the halls and traps didn't help when I was played it as a child. Edit: There it is xD

When I first came to UA-cam, countdown videos were and still are my go-to. TatesTopVideo caught my eye, loved it and still do, even though it takes a while for the next video, the wait is always worth it, the quality. I still to this day use Tats videos if I'm having trouble sleeping, even the horror themed ones

Heck Yeah! This is a list that you guys will be perfect at making! I actually have mild gamer trauma from the Drowning theme in Sonic. The first time I played a Sonic game (Sonic Advance 3 in Twinkle Snow Act 2), I had no idea about the bubble mechanic. So I drowned at least 20 times while freaking out, having no clue of where to go. Eventually, I stumbled into a bubble completely by accident, and figured out what I had to do. Now it's engrained in my mind, and every time I hear it, I feel like jumping out of a window in panic and have to cover my ears. XP Anyone else? 🦔🫧
As a long time lurker for this channel, I'm still happy to see this channel thriving even years later. I don't got anything super sappy or cheesy to say, just realized how much I enjoy seeing a new Tats video pop on my feed. I have a lotof things I enjoy watching to the point where sometimes it gets a bit much, but for as much as I sometimes hesitate when i see longer videos even for stuff i enjoy watching Tats is always something I never complain to watch no mater how long the videos get. Maybe its just cause these videos dont get released in mass waves, but if so just means you guys really take your time to make each video extra special and enjoyable no matter if its short or long! I can't explain it too much but I especially enjoy watching these videos off of my tv instead of computer, maybe I'm just nostalgic cause I watched youtube off of TV a lot when I was younger and Tats kinda stuck with me then? idk but it is how it is and I aint complaining.

I've always thought the Twinkle Park music was creepy and also somehow calming. I'm a sucker for both spooky atmosphere and Amy so it was perfect.

out of all of these the undead song of conkers bad fur day terrified me the most its just something about the droning constant shriek of the synth rising and dropping subtlety
That always gave me a panic. Especially since it feels like the zombies are about to lunge at you. That music always gave me a sense of dread and it’s a chapter I had to get my brother to beat lol though he needed my help beating the level since he sucked at the Mr barrel lol
It's the groans of the zombies, graveyard noises, and the mansion after the bat ancestor died.
The music in the third level of Lollipops feels almost too atmospheric for something like Action 52. Whenever I hear it, it gives me the mental image of traveling through a bleak, abandoned town, that once held bustling people and genuine life, but the only thing that echoes throughout it are dissonant church bells...
Also I've heard the reason it begins to glitch out is because the game starts reading graphics/level data as music, so that's cool.
Yeah the sound chip is fucked, so the music glitches up when your character moves and bashes enemies. This is what happens when three people are told to churn out this cart in a few months!
Basically like what happens when you play an old computer cassette tape or CD-ROM data track in an audio cassette/CD player.
I love how accurate this list is lol. For once I actually played majority of the games so I understand the feeling of dread anxiety and nervousness these levels gave me XD
The groans in the Creepy Castle tombs scared me a lot when I was young. It doesn’t anymore, but one track that does scare me after hearing it was both the normal Queen Vanessa’s Manor and when Queen Vanessa chases you. I don’t have A Hat in Time, but my brother does. But I don’t let it get to me because I still love the game.
Music indeed can change the atmosphere and tone of a game. I was very delighted to see a number of music tracks I’m familiar with. I hope you do other music themed lists like this in the future. Keep up the awesome work Tats!

Action 52 on both NES and Sega Genesis have a below-average soundtrack, imo, so I’m not surprised that it made it here xD

i think another kirby theme that could fit should be the "eternal echo of the thrilling tour" with the "and here we are".
there just something about how fecto forgo/fecto elfilis had to endure years with being treated as a lab experiment and then as an attraction, only for then be left behind in a decaying world with the voice of the facility malfunctioning and having to listen to that voice over and over again for the rest of eternity with both their body and mind just wasting away

Atmosphere is very important. The music must fit the location. It seems the game developers understood that kids cannot be isolated from fear forever.

Dispite most platformers being bright and colourful, it interesting how there's something creepy lurking in one of the platformers in different ways. Creepy music certainly does add to that ambience, giving it more of that creepy feel. With SEGA Sonic games, can't think of anything creepy from the games themselves but Gerald Robotnik in SA2B.
Sweet another tats video. Spooky chapter in conker always got me a panic due to the atmosphere of the place your practically alone and the music doesn’t help especially when it suddenly drops you just get a sense of dread.
The best horror are always from places where you least expected that’s why I feel like in kids game they effectively capture horror well since you almost never expect it
If you ever add a part 2 I recommend hearing the original personal music at the hospital it got censored in the USA because in the Japanese version you hear people screaming making it feel like the enemies are killing the patients. What’s more messed up it’s the first “dungeon”

You unlocked a hidden trama with the Kirby 64 soundtrack have only played it once when I was like three or four at the time
I swear the river twigz never gets any better. the more you hear it, the more it sinks in of how distorted and disturbing the place is. To me nothing else tops this song to this day

The mansion part after killing conkers bat ancestor is truly one of the most terrifying things I've witnessed in a game.
The graveyard ambience is scary to but you described the dread of being alone in a mansion with zombies so well.
Along with helplessness when getting the key to the door, anxiety inducing as one false move will have to make you do it over again, paranoia and just wanting to get out of there.
I wanted Banjo and Kazooie to be with me and Conker so bad in that moment. As we all know they're most likely dead by that point sadly which makes it scarier.
When Conker opened the door i thought shut up and get out of there. I'm done with that music, zombies and kid laughs.
Being on that barrow rolling out of that spooky chapter with the twelve tales music was so satisfying though.
Before I watch, I'm gonna add one my creepier tracks if it isn't on this list - The Hall of Mirrors (Twinkle Park) from Sonic Adventure 1. It stood out as such a weird piece of music compared to the rest of the soundtrack and being chased by Zero through the halls and traps didn't help when I was played it as a child.

So glad to know this channel is hanging around. I'll come by once every few years to soak in those old Creepypasta videos, and to see that style hasn't changed much at all is awesome. Keep doin' what y'all are doing, makes me feel nostalgic despite it being usually creepy videos.

When I first came to UA-cam, countdown videos were and still are my go-to. TatesTopVideo caught my eye, loved it and still do, even though it takes a while for the next video, the wait is always worth it, the quality.
I still to this day use Tats videos if I'm having trouble sleeping, even the horror themed ones

Heck Yeah! This is a list that you guys will be perfect at making! I actually have mild gamer trauma from the Drowning theme in Sonic. The first time I played a Sonic game (Sonic Advance 3 in Twinkle Snow Act 2), I had no idea about the bubble mechanic. So I drowned at least 20 times while freaking out, having no clue of where to go. Eventually, I stumbled into a bubble completely by accident, and figured out what I had to do. Now it's engrained in my mind, and every time I hear it, I feel like jumping out of a window in panic and have to cover my ears. XP Anyone else? 🦔🫧

As a long time lurker for this channel, I'm still happy to see this channel thriving even years later.
I don't got anything super sappy or cheesy to say, just realized how much I enjoy seeing a new Tats video pop on my feed. I have a lotof things I enjoy watching to the point where sometimes it gets a bit much, but for as much as I sometimes hesitate when i see longer videos even for stuff i enjoy watching Tats is always something I never complain to watch no mater how long the videos get. Maybe its just cause these videos dont get released in mass waves, but if so just means you guys really take your time to make each video extra special and enjoyable no matter if its short or long!
I can't explain it too much but I especially enjoy watching these videos off of my tv instead of computer, maybe I'm just nostalgic cause I watched youtube off of TV a lot when I was younger and Tats kinda stuck with me then? idk but it is how it is and I aint complaining.
