He also said in follow up interview because of public responses like this that Microsoft obviously isn’t going to just discontinue the gaming department of the company. Which in hindsight should be self-explanatory after spending billions on the acquisition of Activision and blizzard not to mention the millions of dollars they spent on legal fee’s in America,England, and i believe Europe as well fighting Sony in court who tried to block their purchase of Activision and blizzard. Which obviously we know was successful and they even agreed to a deal with Nintendo to let them have Activision games on their Console as well as Sony. So there’s no way Microsoft gives up on the gaming industry after investing so much into it.
As a playstation fanboy I hope Microsoft's Xbox thrives. If playstation is left alone with no serious competition, Sony will be complacent and anti consumer. Competition is good.
Not Microsoft's competition. I miss Sega. I mean it's hard to even get excited for games when they buy Ninja Theory and make Hellblade 2 Xbox/PC only, or Elderscrolls 6 not on Playstation. I'll just wait until the next steamdeck comes out and pirate the crap, but I would much rather play it on my PS5. Though with Bethesda it's gonna be probably the 3rd generation steamdeck, and the game will be buggy as crap because they cut out 6 million sales on Playstation, and then gave it away to 25 million people, so I don't know how buggy a game is going to be that takes 10 years to develop, from a company that is janky with programming, and has no possible ability to be profitable, because the whole friggin point is literally just to sell monthly subs, oh and they're also giving out another 5 first party games that cost 100s of millions to produce, and making them exclusive, and giving those out to 25 million people. The business model doesn't work. That's why they want 120 million subscribers (not gonna happen that's a bit over half of Spotify's subscribers FFS) Even at 50 million subscribers paying $17 a month they can't make the Activision Blizzard aquisition profitable through Gamepass subs for 10 years, and that would have to be on top of the 25 million they already have. 4 years is how much they need at 125 million subscribers, but that's not taking into account other aquisitions and pay outs to all the different publishers to license the game for Gamepass. And that's 17 for ultimate, that's their most expensive, and monthly. If you buy annually the numbers are worse. At 35-50 million I imagine they have no choice but to just be "Games as a Service" provider other than the fact that this is all a giant tax write off game.

Nintendo don't really compete with Microsoft or Sony. They rake in customers because of their exclusives which at least for me is the only reason I own a Switch
People are getting sick of subscription services. I cancelled all of mine. It’s just a way for these companies to trick you into letting them drain your bank account every month.
@landontv1671 We know that. The pro is that you'll decide what you want to download/purchase & own it indefinitely, while the con is that you spend more (as you mentioned earlier) & you might be disappointed by your purchase if it doesn't live up to the hype, whereas in a sub service, you simply quit mid-game & play/download another within that same month at no extra cost, since your subscription is still active. This can even allow you to test multiple games, until you find the "hidden gems" you like. Of course, you won't own any of them & will be subject to availability of those games due to license agreements or disputes. You can merge both - subscribe to find the ones you like by playing as many as you can for a while (an hour each?), then proceed to buy & own those few you actually like & cancel your subscription for the subsequent months to enjoy your purchase
I don't blame you, it is only good value if you play all the games they release on there. And if you like to purchase the games you enjoy, the value is significantly lessened. When you run out of tricks to use and you are hit with the reality that you are looking at 50 bucks a month or 400 dollars a year to maintain 2 console subscription services, it doesn't seem worth it. At that point it leaves the base tiers that are required to play online, assuming the person doesn't have a PC that they play online with instead. Sony increasing their price for premium which is really bad value, has really shined a light on how expensive they are. You have to be a certain kind of person to really get the most out of these services, you have to basically want to consume as much content as possible without a care to revisit it at a later date.
They could cash out, sell themselves to PlayStation who would buy to eliminate competition once & for all, to get back all the games Xbox tried to make exclusive, etc

Microsoft doesn't care about consoles. The writing has been on the wall for over a decade, ever since the Kinnect days.
They want a service, period.
Luckily, I got out of Xbox right after the 360.
That's why they want 120 million subscribers (not gonna happen that's a bit over half of Spotify's subscribers FFS)
Even at 50 million subscribers paying $17 a month they can't make the Activision Blizzard aquisition profitable through Gamepass subs for 10 years, and that would have to be on top of the 25 million they already have.
Xbox pc doesnt have games i own. Ill never go bacl to my xbox. I have to buy all my games again.

@@landontv1671don’t care, I’m still rocking that free ps3 online services 🗣🗣🗣
@landontv1671
We know that.
Xbox has always charged to play online, but it was a straightforward simple affordable system.

How'd you buy dlc content in 2009 without buying xbox live, let alone play online? Lmao.
Despite the console sales, Sony is the one who struggling 😂
Ofc when their main competition have a market cap of quadruple Sony, Nintendo, Valve and epic games combined.
Because Xbox has daddy Microsoft money that has higher than Apple
If the mid gen upgrade doesn't come with a disk drive atleast sell an external one. Some of us have lots of games on disk
Nintendo: Come on brah im right here😑. And i sold more consoles than both of you🙄💀

That's not what he said you misquoted the guy this is the legitimate message:
These growth metrics showed the service reaching 100 million subscribers between fiscal year 2029 and 2030, but Spencer is not a fan of these predictions. In fact, he does not "believe that is what the future Xbox business would look like." He then proceeded to say "if this were the outcome, we would -- I don't think we'd still be in the business." He believes the company needs to be in that position by fiscal year 2026 to 2027, or "we'd have to make a difference decision with the business."
Remember when Microsoft didn’t listen to their fans and then later told them to not game with them if they didn’t like it?
so hey, remember when you bought a game, plugged it in, and it just worked? no pay wall, no micro transactions?
Yeah, I remember coming home with Mario kart Wii and played for years (until wii stopped working).
Also, would DLCs be considered micro transaction?
No mid Gen refresh. Xbox is going to release their next gen in 2026 now.
Digital Series X: Breaths
Series S: why am I still here?, just to suffer?
