Saya bangga menjadi rakyat Malaysia disebabkan sampai sekarang kereta Proton masih ada lagi unit di sana walaupun Syarikat Proton sudah lama tidak beroperasi di UK.. Terima kasih kepada anda semua 🥰🥰
Thank you for posting this video. I was a Proton R&D member (Styling group).. now retired. I am one of the many people who worked on creating this car. Anyway... that annoying noise will goes off when... 1. The light is on when the engine is in off condition. To remind you to turn off the light. 2. The key is in the ignition switch when then engine is off n the door is ajar. So you won't forget your key. Again, thank you. Nice to see the car is still in working order though the styling is dated.
There's a little sad story there; perhaps an older person who bought a car to use in their retirement and did very little mileage, who put it away and became ill with the car still there because they might get to use it again. the house falls into disrepair, the car is forgotten and then they're not there any more. Every thing like this has a human dimension.
Just imagine how happy the former owner is though, possibly looking down from heaven, seeing that his pride and joy is being saved, and not towed to a scrap yard and broken up for parts or crushed.
I'm a volunteer at a heritage railway, (S & D, Midsomer Norton) we have a shop that sells donated books, we always thank the donors enthusiastically because there's usually a sad story attached.
I love these Protons, I have had two of them, the Satria (sold) and now a Perdana. These were bullet proof cars and only needed periodical maintenance. Started with the Proton Saga's and now the Proton X-50's as a result of 49.9% Proton's stake being acquired by Geely China. (Geely owns Volvo). This is a nice video and who ever owns this car is very fortunate!
I feel that collaboration videos between you, Matt, Ian, and others have signaled the way forward in the classic community. Fun, genuine video. Simply loved it!
We had a Proton Persona, and while it wasnt my cup of tea it was as tough as old boots. It didnt go wrong in all the time we had it,not even a bulb was changed! It was very light on the road and quite nippy!Only reason we bought it was we got a great deal on it.But Proton were popular back then, shame they stopped selling them here....
Well proton is now owned by a Chinese Company and the last time(probably) that Proton exported their cars was last year to a middle east country that I forgot... and they only export the current gen Proton Saga (which is a newer version of the car in the video)... but us Malaysian alway love to see our cars rolling around in another countries...
I'm genuinely stunned that you found that car, it's in amazing condition, the miles and everything, just wow! It's definitely a keeper long term, if it were mine I wouldn't be moving it on. Enjoy Steph, drive it like I would......with a big 😁 on my face.
Truly a survivor car. PROTON car in the nineties was a bulletproof car due to collaboration with Mitsubishi. When Proton management end their joint venture with Mitsubishi & joining with PSA Peugeot Citroën instead, then the quality have gone down the drain with product plague with issues.
My father had this model as his taxi. We grew up seeing our father take great care of the taxi, and worked hard for our family. This is so sentimental. So grateful it has found home. Enjoy Steph, we are so jealous!
Old Protons never die! Plus they're so simple under the bonnet you can fix most problems with a spanner anyway. Do come take a look around mine some day. 😁👍
It's great to see two of my three favourite UA-cam car channels collaborating on this video. It's probably the most fun to watch videos on either of your channels, especially the expression on Steph's face when it starts.
Nice to see different UA-camrs work together and the joy with the car starting - what a great find. Look forward to hearing more about the MOT and what it took to get it. I have an old Rover 216SE which sat for a while I need to prepare for its MOT equivalent, as soon as the weather cools enough.
That was amazing. I once bought a Vespa 90 which had been in a shed for 15 years, and that started on the third kick. However I did drain the tank and refill it with fresh petrol/oil mixture before trying. I pumped up the tyres, checked the gear change and brakes worked and I was able to ride it home. A good buy for £25.
I worked at a Proton Garage and was involved in the launch night when the garage first took over the Franchise possibly 1990 and I certainly remember that they almost never went wrong which was very unusual back then. A shout out to Roger Trodd the garage owner RIP.
I had a proton jumbuck from new but ended up sending it to the breakers two year ago. Proton were seriously underestimated and shouldn't have pulled out of the UK.
agreed, I worked at the dealer that actually supplied this car, they were very good, better than Hyundai at the time! Proton were, unfortunately, criminally underfunded which was a pity because they were good, cheap cars and sold well too. Your Jumbuck was based on the Persona (Wira) which was also a very nice car, a bit more modern than he MPi featured in this video, and was very popular.
Well let's wish they make a comeback soon. They are on a strong revival here in Malaysia with new shareholders Geely (49.9%), who also own Volvo and The London Electric Vehicle Company that makes the new iconic black cabs. Geely also now owns a majority of Lotus.
been following your channel since you featured the Black Knight.. and this absolutely tops that! there are still many running on Malaysian road .. this thing won't break.. hi from Malaysia, and keep it up Steph!
I'm genuinely over the moon for you. This sums up everything that was great about 90s Protons. Yes, they were a bit outdated but they were built of tough stuff that worked and stood the test of time. The ultimate budget car. Has it got a name? If not the numberplate definitely lends itself to Maggy
Wow! The genuine surprise you all had when the car started first go. Dad had a 2012 Honda Jazz that sat in our garage for the last two years since he gave up driving due to his health. When we sold it a few weeks ago, we didn't get it started even half as easy as that. Sadly, it had to be taken away on a lorry. Look after the car Steph. I know it will look after you.
What an amazing find. While watching this, reminds me of my Uncle who passed away a couple of years back, he had the same car but the local Malaysian spec which is different from the ones being exported overseas from Malaysia. There are still quite many of these running about over here in Malaysia.
As a Malaysian, I am so proud seeing one in such a good condition after 10 years in a barn! What a bran find! I myself have owned so many Protons (this model is called Iswara in Malaysia) .I had a blue 1997 Proton Iswara 1.3 as my first car with power steering (added after market) but carbureted not MPI. I am so proud seeing this pristine Iswara being restored to its former glory. I used to rent this car when it was new back in 1993. Same colour too. But the Malaysian Domestic Model had a different kind of dashboard design . Well done Steph!
I'm from malaysia and still lives in Malaysia, and i can say, We still see a bunch of these same model cars up and running even in 2021!!! Even the Taxis here in bright red would be seen on highways. Sure, they may not be known for their luxury or good looks, in fact malaysians itself rather buys japanese or european cars but still a malaysian recognises malaysian cars. so proud as malaysian to see one proton saga in other countries let alone treasure it. it is indeed a SAGA. its hillarious how this guy treated this finding as if he found a dinosaur fossil or some musuem treasure chest when there's a bunch here in malaysia lol but i gotta say, the condition of this car is probably the best one in the world, not even in malaysia could you find one in this condition.
What a fantastic find Steph, definitely keep it as a daily driver and use your older ones for weekends and special occasions. The best video you've made so far in my opinion. Good to see you laughing and enjoying yourself Steph. Looking forward to seeing future videos especially of this car.
The Proton is a great find. There can’t be many like it around in the UK especially with so little mileage. It’s covered less distance than my two year old car! Amazing
What an amazing barn find, more like you found it at the manufacturing factory than a barn. You'll never see another car of this model in this immaculate condition anywhere. Being Malaysian with a proton car, i can safely say you've stumbled on a treasure with four wheels. Congrats!
As a user of British classics as dallies for over 30 years I can say with lots of experience, and lots costs, that puts the British cars in true perspective. Well done on the find.
Proton Iswara is a popular family car before it was succeeded with Proton Wira in Malaysia. My dad still owns Iswara Aeroback for daily usage. Sending hugs from Malaysia.
Wow Steph, you are really going full-immersion on the BL owner experience of yesteryear - finally fed-up with unreliable motors, they fled to the Asian manufacturers in droves! lol. I admire your dedication. (and is Matt as much of an excitable puppy in real life as he is on his channel?! lol)
Loved this! Such fun to see Matt and the wiper test for HubNut fans. You missed one lamp test however. When Matt was in reverse the reverse lights did not come on. Otherwise, what a remarkable find.
I think it is even better than the Black Knight that you’ve tested earlier. You are so lucky to be the new owner of this car. I had a brand new one in 1992 in Malaysia, we called it Iswara 1.5 S (Manual as well) sold it at 380K km in 1998. With no major issue at all..just the regular service etc.
The light switch set up is the same as the early Hillman Avenger. I had a new Austin Maestro (which I loved) and my neighbour a new Proton. My car dissolved in front of me but my neighbours remained solid. I think it was one of the first galvanized rust proof bodies to hit the market. Cheap to buy but great reliable motors.
I subscribed to I drive a classic, twin cam, furious driving, and HubNut because of all the enthusiasm for cars and everyone seems like nice people. Nice to see that you all are nice to each other too. Great video as was Matt's Happy for you
Nice find Steph. I saw Tina when I picked up the caravan from the storage place. Nice collaboration with Matt. He was a bit gutted when it fired up on the button. It will probably be fine on the old fuel. Cars of that era are more tolerant of old fuel. It is really a "garage find" rather than a "barn find".
12 valve engines otherwise known as triple valves. I had an old sunny with a 1.4L version of this engine. The Malaysians just bored it out slightly to 1.5L. it's chain driven and absolutely bullet proof. I changed my chain at 120,000 miles and sold it at 134,000 miles and the new owner had it to over 145,000 miles.
Hi frm Malaysia..pretty jealous of yr find, hard to find old proton cars barely new at this condition over here..but thank you for preserving our classic. This car is a legend here..
Blast from the past, my grandparents(who I lived with) had one the same colour in the 90's, I was hoping it would become my first car but my grandad cooked the engine in 2001.. I loved that car, was funny how the colour name was "brown" on the log book but actually looks more sand colour 😄🎨🚗
Wow! Amazing find. Started first time too! Shows how good these cars are. My old Metro has been in our garage for 28 year! Must get that running again. Happy, safe and fun classic motoring.
Quite a car isn,'t it! With 6.5 redline, that engine must rip I think but might have all its torque in the high revs. You did a good job on putting on the contact and waiting soe time before you turned the key. By doing so, the fuel pump had its time to build up the fuel pressure to make sure fuel was getting all up to the injector rail. I don't like to admit it, but this easy start is thanks to the electronic injection system. It is like old BMW's. As long as the EU wasn"t flooded and you don't have clogged injectors, it will start right away, even if it sat for 10 or even more years. Very nice! Cheers from Belgium!
That's an awesome find! Those Mitsubishi engines are rather tough, and it should make a great daily driver! Hope it gets some anti corrosion protection to keep it looking like new! Well done!🙂
You guys and Vice Grip Garage are two of my favorite car UA-cam channels. It's neat to see you guys doing stuff like Derrick does, although his cars have usually been sitting WAY longer. Great vid, everyone!
I can remember very well this proton saga (iswara in malaysia) is make a appearance in Mr. Bean show. the part where golf ball stuck in the exhaust. haha.. nostalgia. it is indeed classic.
Wow did that car really just start on ten year old fuel??? Obviously they don't refine it like they used to. 😅 Being a huge fan of both channels it's nice to see you and Matt together on this one. Always good to see a car getting a second chance at life.
What a great find Steph. You may find filling up with fresh fuel will mix that old stuff enough to be usable. But drive it gently until that first tankfull has gone, as misfires can wreck the catalytic converter. You definitely need to consider at least, replacing the old antifreeze and thermostat, brake fluid and possibly the flexi brake hoses for safety.
Well it will be worth spending a bit on such a low miles example, you got a virtually new car. It probably hit its lowest value years ago, condition and rarity can only add value. I remember a few of these coming in the workshop for damage repairs in the 90's. They were popular on the Motability Scheme as it was a well equipped car for the money.
Very jealous. That is awsome I love protons. After seeing Chris Goffey test on Top Gear as a 7 year old. Quite a few were bought were I lived. What a survivor.
OMG! 😱 I can't believe it you guys found a well working old Proton car! It's really hard to see one like that here in my place (Malaysia). You guys are amazing 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻 Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Incredible car. Matt is so jealous no matter what he says 😄 Thank goodness it has gone to someone like you who will treat it with the respect it deserves. Just wonderful. 😊✔
Your views for this and future videos on the Proton will go through the roof. Malaysia still loves these Proton cars.
I hope it helps save a few more by spreading the enthusiasm.

A great #rarebutnobodycares survivor Steph. I enjoyed this. You totally need to bring this to our next show.
Jonny why not you pull this back into the 'barn' and make a video of it? I enjoyed your show btw, greetings from Malaysia!
Any chance of an update vid on your Allegro Jonny?
Such a cool car. What a find!!.
So cool to see you and Matt combining to do this rescue. We'll done to you both. Two of my favorite Utube car nuts.xx

Watched both videos now, love steph's enthusiasm for this proton, she seems so happy
What a survivor. So many of gone due to age and nobody wanting them. Expect a few Maylasians to comment because they're immensely proud of this car.
Oh my subscribers from Malaysia are so lovely. They always leave lovely feedback and suggestions.
This proton saga is like a tank for us Malaysians. my proton saga car hit a tree, a broken tree not a car

I worked in a Proton dealership for 7 years... they NEVER went wrong...
I only serviced them... never repair...!!
WHATTT it started first go old cars are amazing
Wow! Amazing find. Started first time too! Shows how good these cars are. My old Metro has been in our garage for 28 year! Must get that running again. Happy, safe and fun classic motoring.
Yes!!! Crack it out
Quite a car isn,'t it!
Thanks Dan!
I can remember very well this proton saga (iswara in malaysia) is make a appearance in Mr. Bean show. the part where golf ball stuck in the exhaust. haha.. nostalgia. it is indeed classic.
This is gold. What a fortunate you are..
What a find! I'm genuinely excited for you. Also nice to see Matt there.
An amazing find, in brilliant condition and the fact it started first time and ran sweet is awesome
And starts every morning still 😂
Im from Malaysia and i really cant wait to see more about this car!please drive it 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I will be!
Really pleased for you - that’s a real find! What a smooth engine!!
Wow did that car really just start on ten year old fuel???
Obviously they don't refine it like they used to. 😅
Being a huge fan of both channels it's nice to see you and Matt together on this one. Always good to see a car getting a second chance at life.
U make me cry for this proton..it's a legend in my country Malaysia...thx for buying this car after 10 years n the condition too great!
Wow. Proud Malaysian here! What a find. Many more years in that car known as an Iswara (a local butterfly) here in Malaysia. All the best!
Aw thank you for commenting ☺️
A blast from the past! well done guys!!
Oh god yeah. She’s getting a service too. It was more could she move, etc. If she hadn’t moved I would’ve had to have rearranged the MOT etc.
Decent daily car.. cheap abundance spare part save on gas, loves from 🇲🇾
Wow! What an incredible (once in a lifetime!) find! 👍
Incredible car. Matt is so jealous no matter what he says 😄 Thank goodness it has gone to someone like you who will treat it with the respect it deserves. Just wonderful. 😊✔
Matt was genuinely so lovely.
He seems like that, I was just being silly.
Great Video Steph and good to See you and Matt Collab, looking forward to seeing the future content of this car. What a great find!
Thank you! X
