How many Malaysians came here after seeing the Proton Saga thumbnail ? 😁

This was our family car when I was a kid! It was in slightly better condition than this one though. Our dad took us everywhere in it!

I am from Klang, Malaysia. I own a Proton Saga 1.3, year made is 1992. I bought it from a former colleague. Until today i am still driving it.
Lim KH I love to hear that

The same 4G13 1.3L engine was used in our 2003 Lancer. No surprise that its legacy lasted so long lmao.
Wow
You sir are a legend
I’m an ex-proton owner, it had the best air conditioning compared to other cars and Low cost maintenance, felt really proud of it.
true,if the window were tinted it will be cold like chrismast
My reality is real because I came out of it 😂
They can't fight our Creator
I got into an accident with this car (I was driving a Honda City) and while my Honda got a bent and major scratches on the bumper, this Proton managed to escape only with ONE little scratch on its side. Wtf.
Same. For some reason this proton is build like a tank.
The name itself is saga.. It's supposed to be tanky LOLOLOL
Low impact accident, saga will be ok, but not for high speed impact. The car will bend all over. Old technology, cant compete with new one.
That's all about angles most of the time. My dad had a crash in a Golf Mk1, got a minor dent. The then-new (2005?) Renault Megane had his whole left side destroyed.
@@Seekthetruth606 Not entirely true. Most car parts today are made of plastic. You'll be surprised at how flimsy car parts are now compared to how they were made decades ago. I used to work for a car insurance company and I inspected car damages that needed fixing.
to be fair...it is older than most youtubers...and it was one of Proton's first models(if not THE first)...yet it still runs smoothly and economically superior than most cars even today...so props to that!
Its an even onder Mitsubishi
Am I weird in finding the Proton to be more interesting than the BMW?
RPKVids it probably is, i mean how many of these are still alive.
I also find it more interesting. :) Non-CSL E46 M3... move along. :P
Anything is infinately more interesting than any of the predictable chav chariot's. BMW or Audi.
- there are a couple of ST owners nearby. They lavish them with care and don't hoon 'em around. Meantime, the local chav's gravitate to A3's and 1 and 3 series once they hit mid 20's and drive them like utter cunts. Could just be a Nottingham thing though.
Paul Smith no its a national thing!
I bought an absolutely immaculate 1.3 aeroback for £150 last year. It's seriously the BEST car I've had. I've owned audis, landrovers, mercs etc etc. I can not fault my proton AT ALL. insurance is 120 quid A YEAR! and it's just like it came out of the factory. 55k on the clock. I won't get rid of it until it dies or I die.
Simon Ingram my uncle owned a 1986 model Proton Saga. Replace the wear and tear parts and it still runs. No major modification at all. It just wont die haha
is yours EFI? the carbed version use unique CV carb, not everybody can tune it.

Babe, don’t treat him like a trash.
Yeah I was talking to the Proton Saga.
Say what you will, but the Proton Saga was and still is a hero car in Malaysia. (Malaysia boleh! 🇲🇾) And yes, it’s silly to compare a Saga to a M3, and worse when you’re just trying to bash it rather than give an unbiased review. You might as well just compare a carton of grape juice to a bottle of exquisite red wine.
Beli kereta saga dah buruk nk compare dengan kereta bmw baru

True.
You need some butt cream
just the brand is from MY but the core technology is not.
To be fair, that generation of Proton was really good. It was basically a Mitsubishi Lancer under the skin. Although the cars were assembled in Malaysia, most of the parts came from Japan. When these cars were launched in the UK in the late 80s, it was received well, won a number of awards at the British International Motorshow, and sold a lot more than was initially expected.
Sadly, that would be Proton's peak. Apart from the Satria GTI, the rest of their cars have been rubbish to say the least.
IMO proton peaked at wira/satria/putra era. went really steep downhill when campro was introduced.
Big Money Waste indeed
used Proton is way better than used luxuries.
fukthegoog there has been a new crazed in town right now. Everyone I know are hunting proton saga specifically those that have been drived by Genting highland taxi driver also known as saga genting people actually spent up to 20k ringgit just to take those car from the hand of those old taxis drivers.
wow 20k. could get a cefiro rb25 with that kind of money
in malaysia whoever own this car is a legend
It seems to be built like a tank
it never die..
This car very old because this model in 1985
It reminds me of an perodua myvi 2005 just crashed out.
My father buy it on 1990..and now i t still on the road..almost 29 years...still good...love my proton saga..
Still? 😮
I think driving cheap old cars makes you appreciate what you have, while driving a expensive modern car makes you think about every little flaw.
I also think it's more interesting to talk about those cars, since they kinda have more character and maybe a interesting story, while most things about a new car are told by a spec sheet.
PROTON Saga The First is a tank..
Then, Perodua Myvi is a flying car..

I am using this lovely car ... after my business went bankrupt ... i sold my SUV ... and bought a 1994 proton iswara (manual) ... that was in 2016 ... until now i am using it ... its been 4 years ... i moved on ... my business got better slowly and steadily ... now i can afford to buy SUV again ... but why should I? My proton iswara saga was my best friend in my rainy days ... so why should i abandon it in my good days ... i will stick to my proton iswara saga ... i don't care what people think about my car ... because i already have emotional relationships with my beloved proton iswara saga
why would you care about what people say about your car, dude when u can use your long finger
That car truly has become a saga
Prices of this going up in Malaysia since the Saga one make race
Bobby Ang Hi Bobby, please make a similar video. Either with an old Saga or Kancil for a week. Gonna be entertaining af.
Agree with the idea!
I had one for sale
People have been looking for this car. Especially saga genting. The maintenance cost are magical
It would be fun if you could review an old rag kancil or saga something a little different XD
So basically,my sister and i were driving me to school (in a mini cooper)and accidently hit someones car(proton wira)

one guy I worked with used to simply buy a $200 car every year and drive it into the ground. Kind of admirable.
I drive economical cars until the wheels fall off. I keep up their maintenance. When the cars get older is when they are by far the most fun. If someone bumps you, no worries. If your doors get dinged, no worries. If major parts fail, your options include selling the car for scrap or replacing with junkyard parts. The creativity behind your solutions can be quite fun. After you collect your assortment of dings, dents, and bumps make sure to park snugly near the new Beemer that is quadruple parked in the far reaches of the parking lot. He'll appreciate your kind gesture. :)
I do that in my old Volvo, love to park right up to the line if the beamer/Audi/Merc has parked "wide". I'm surely doing them a favour by protecting their doors from people squeezing past.
Makes total sense in the city. Parisians all drive bangers due to tiny streets and not-giving-a-shit parking styles. If your car gets torched or nicked, doesn't cost a fortune to replace it.
Malaysians are very patriotic, every video with a proton in it, they will be in the comments section, very wholesome

There's really nothing wrong with cars like that. There really isn't.
So funny :D over a year ago I bought a 2002 Fiat Punto after several years of having a brand new car every couple of years and I have really gotten used to it. It's so true about not having to worry all the time about dents and bumps, I constantly bang my door into the wall of our house and don't even bat an eyelid, I would have probably cried before :D I have come to love my car, decorated it with decals, given it a name and it's become quirkily adorable. Best of all we have saved a deposit and will hopefully buy our first home this year! For us it has paid off.
Is the little Punto still around? :)
"The nicer my car, the more friends I'll have?" Wow. I'll be happy to not be your friend.
It's pretty obvious that's just a mild British humour that you can't take
KaiserSchnitzel I’ll be happy to steal his BMW :D
Easy to be all snooty about a cheap car when you have a plush job driving fancy cars and getting well paid doing it, but curiously not everyone has that, some of us really work for a living and must of the time not getting much money in the end of the month, and the only item that matters for us in buying a car is the price and that it get us from A to B protected from the rain, but of course that is something very far from your universe, something that only happens to real human beings not TV characters ...
Real things of life that didnt mentioned on any videos ever
I agree, I have a 24 year old car and am glad that it still goes. TV shows don't always reflect real people...
True! The woman in the car said "she has shoes more expensive than the car". Bloody hell, over £200 for a pair of shoes - I start crying at paying over £30 in Decathlon.
These TV presenters need to get in the real world. Not everyone's got a high paid job, most work for Minimum wage...try getting a brand new Beemer on that! They're nothing more than inverted snobs looking down on the lower echelons.
Yup. I actually sold my (fairly luxurious) Lexus and bought a cheap Toyota Paseo instead. I don't make a lot of money and I had saved up a loooong time to be able to buy the Lexus.
But guess what, I am just as happy driving the Paseo now... maybe even more happy because it's simple, it's cheap to run and I don't have to worry as much.
Bangers / Beaters ... I love 'em!
you guys are too lazy to even live in this world. there are so many ways to make money nowadays and yet you chose to be slave and making other people rich while you guys whining about your life.
I owned a similar car in Malaysia, the Proton Saga 1.5I bought back in 1987. Best part? Dirt cheap maintenance and superb reliability. Right now, I'm restoring it back to stock specs myself. Brand new parts still sold by Proton at a discount. I've bought a brand new engine, gearbox, wiring, suspension, seats and interior plastics. Some parts no longer sold and were cannibalised from a donor car. Sure beats the crap out of my daily driver, a 2012 Peugeot 3008.
how's your car coming along? and how much is for the restoration? I have one too back at kampung with a lot of fond (and not so fond) memories in there
Aeizad Danial M.S. I've spent close to RM 10K including Puspakom inspection.
Aaron Cheah have then back
At least the proton is less embarrassing than the BMW. I did this with a £600 Jag. Lasted a year til the engine fell out. Proper Jag too (not an x type)
Real symptoms of the modern world when he spends half the clip going on about what other people think or how he'll be judged.
No doubt he'll be rolling around in his M3 gagging for attention.
Gimme that with a manual stick and watch me drifting on every corner, and cruising on long roads. That car is the definition of fun and satisfaction when driving it. Proton Saga rocks. Much love ❤️
Don't knock the old Proton - it's basically a Mitsubishi Lancer made in Malaysia. OK they were a pretty unremarkable device even then, but they were well built and reliable. These cars finished off Lada in the UK back in the early 1990s and showed that budget cars don't have to be laughable awful cars.
RapidAssistant yes many Protons were based on the superseded Mitsubishi Lancers but this model was based on the Galant/ Magna depending on the country. The problem was it was made by Proton and just put together. Shame really. The Mitsubishi models were 10,000x better.
@@stephanburgess654 yes mitsubishi are 10 000 is better then proton...but shame of course not...

I saved money to buy '89 Yugo 45 and drove it like any other car for 6 months. I gave 300€ for it. It was tax and refistered, has good winter tires, sunroof and great radio. Sold it for 360. Guy who bought it still drives it.
2019 still watching my country car😂👍

That proton is much better and more reliable than the later models
Omg.. that is 30 yo car.. vs m3? Proton must be good.. tq for the review.. pls do it more
Probably that's why the Proton Saga (a.k.a Proton Sport) became a legend of reliability! It has been about 30 years already!
Just proved his mates are as shallow as he is. Only once, in 25 years of driving have I paid more than 500 for a motor, and the bargain was an 80 quid 406 that lasted two years without ever even being serviced, just add fuel and go.
BANGANOMICS !!!
Driving this car around in other countries really looks good
I bought my Proton Saga 85 12v from 1989 till this day..more than 10 years and been hit like 4 times from rear with no scratches and bends. First car bought with own money and still drive strong even in challenging weather..
I ride old "bangers". Why? I do not care much what others think. I rather safe me money so i have more to spend with my family, wich mean so much more to me than a bloody car.
mightress You make good decisions.
That's true. My daily ride is a Nissan Almera N15 tough like a rock. The cost of tires, fuel and services is ridiculous and no breakdowns so far. If you enjoy other things in life, I think it's a clever way of moving.
His 'image' is what is important to him.
Proud to be a Malaysian!
this is so true! i have been using a cheap banger proton for past year
so worry free as i can park anywhere, cheap to run, parts easily find, and is so simple i can fix most stuff myself
and i dont have to worry about its appearance (since its a banger)
i just take care of all the mechanical parts
sadly will part from her soon and moving on
Did you get a new car?
My 2001 Saxo was £330 and sailed through its MOT a year later. Much better 'bangers' available than the Proton. I never feel embarrassed driving my car. In fact, it's a joy.
I'm from malaysia.. I proud of this video because this is a legend car and legend brand for us...
im fine with any car aslong as the A/C work perfectly fine
trust me mate, i am from Malaysia, the old protons the A/C is bullet proof, cold as heck even on a hot afternoon in Malaysia (averaging from 32-35 C)

Ahh I guess you're talking about the headlights. They look quite nice and suit it well to be honest.
He's done a facelift conversion on the M3, which was never released with that front end. It's also been resprayed white (more desirable colour), it used to be black
Tom Allen I thought it looked funny. Deffo ruined it
Butthurt Malaysian spotted
I somehow think this guy is exaggerating the so-called problems & unreliability of that 'banger' car. So many Malaysians are still using the car even including the older version of it...only has minor problems & wear & tear as usual like any other car. And of course, the door won't open by itself just like that as told by this dude at 4:17

You give me one British/ EU car that were made in the same year as that Proton and still running as good as that Proton.. i bet you can't! The complaints are only about the age factor and not class and reliability. Compare apple to apple.

Except the Proton isn't still running.
And come off it, there are loads of British and European cars still running, as in still running as of NOW.
My British car is still going and it's one year off as old as the Proton in the video and it's far from on its own.
My ex Landrover 90 (1987 model) is still on the road. My old 1993 Clio 16v is still on the road. My old 1997 Golf Vr6 is still on the road. And that's a comically small representation of surviving British and European cars from my personal past ownership.
Lol, my dads Morris Minor 1950 is still on the road
You're living in your own world, lots of conti cars still running on the road.

The Sport and Le Mans badge is fake. Im Malaysian and this is my national car. It does not come with those badges.
Mike Swift Some proton cars name is different in some countries..and the le mans badge one is fake, but maybe the sport badge is real
Mike Swift how i wish the Malaysian versions had a sunroof. Even at that time, Proton gave more to Europeans and less to it's own people. 2018...and it's still the same story.
lets say Proton Waja in Malaysia...in UK it is named Proton Impian
And In Malaysia....Proton Wira
UK....Proton Persona
Bethuel Selvin Raj the upcoming x70 will have the sunroof
sometimes a dealer will add a badge and some stickers and call it special edition to move on old stock, id say the sport badge is fake, but the le mans badge may have been added by a dealer.

As of 2016 540 Proton Saga's are left.
Include in Malaysia???
why always last video came to me......who also with me in 2019 like😂😂😂😂😂
"It has number plate issues" yeah, so does your bmw. Also bangers are the way forward, My recent banger was a 1999 seat cordoba vario in yellow, i paid £130 for it and was cheap as hell to run and was very reliable, i had the best fun in it. I enjoyed it more than my skyline.
MrKp0w That was the sad thing about my £300 Corsa C. I enjoyed driving a 68cv 1.3 CDTI more then a remapped/chipped Mercedes ML420 CDI. And that wasn't the worst bit... The worst bit was it outlasted and ran circles around the Mercedes for reliability and not spending so much as a penny on a bulb. Nothing went wrong with it.
My current "banger" is a 2002 Volvo S80 only cost £500 was owned by a well off gentleman before me so it's in great condition even the aircon works. The only downside if you can call it one is it had 238k miles when I first got it now it's upto 250k and still running great just a little thursty with its 2.4 engine.
Still got a little Rover 25 and asides me repairing the near obligatory head gasket failure 11 years ago (Still going strong) the only other things I've done to it in 15 years is two new rear wheel cylinders, one new lower suspension arm ball joint and a new clutch. It's never let me down and always starts on the button and reasonably good on fuel.
You can have more fun driving complete crap balls out everywhere, than you can have getting the odd little BRRRAP out of something really powerful.
1ns4ne1d10t Oh wow, I thought it was just me, picked up a Corsa C 1.3 CDTI and I’ve found it’s a lot more fun and assuring to drive than a 16 plate 1 series. A car must’ve hit its door mirror whilst a work, my reaction being “cool, didn’t know it had folding mirrors...”.
Remove the Proton badge, put on a BMW badge in its place, and it instantly becomes a fantastic classic car.
Many like to belittle the Proton make, but believe me it's a fantastic, reliable car. with all the modern gadgets found in much more expensive cars.
The early models may have had some issues, but these have now been sorted out now.

Now, compare it with 2019 proton saga
my dad own a proton 1.3S manual year of made 1985, which was the 1st version of the proton car. It serve our family well for 28 years without any problem. Sold it by the year of 2013 and the car still running strong until now.
You may drive a banger, but if its pissing it down with rain watch how many people will gladly get in 😂

That gearbox will last longer than the m3's one 😂
2:48 a Car: Dodge that camera!!!
You will never know this car potential dude...this is one of the best car that Proton ever produce
i drive a car that is worth next to nothing(can find another for 800€) and i must say that compared to the repair bills, time spent in shop and the fact that other than 2 instances of a dead battery(always close to home luckly), it never left me stranded... the best way to describe it is reliable. even more reliable than some new, more lemonish cars and definetly more reliable than some cars half its age.
Try doing a head on with your bemmer, you will be surprised how solid this car is. This is the nokia 3310 of cars

Exported version is different from local stock. They got better quality.
I agree with this. I used to own a Wira UK specs model and it was world apart from the Wira that my brother used to own (his was a local model).
The export model Wira had better furnishings better seats (so comfy) and the little extras that makes it unique (like those rear fog lamp). To be honest my Wira never had a power window failure once in it's life span as compared to my brother's local Wira that kept needing it's power window fixed often.
The dual mph / kmh spedo was awesome too on the export model - didn't serve any purpose for us here in Malaysia but nevertheless it was still awesome.
