      @@nextlevelangling I really think my knots hold good with low wraps because I do braid to mono not flouro the water I fish isn’t dirty, but it’s not to clear so I’m more worried about adding a little stretch then I am trying to lower visibility, which is why I don’t pay up for the flouro, but I think mono is a lot softer and it lets the braid grab it better. also it has a bigger diameter than Flouro and that definitely helps with this knot. After feeling the sensitivity of braid, I will never go back to straight Flouro or mono. But after losing a for sure PB (either Dottie or a stripper) right near the bank I will never use straight braid again theres just not enough give I use about 8-10 feet of mono for leader according to UA-cam test people did that should give me about a foot and a half of stretch. So even during the nastiest headshake at the side of the boat, they stay pinned. A lot of guys don’t want their leader knot to be on their spool but you have taught me to tie to FG so well it doesn’t bother my set up a bit and I have micro guides 😂

    I dont know who Rizzuto is but the finishing knot you used is traditionally known as a "whipping knot" which is used to wrap the ends of ropes to keep them from unravelling. We also use it to finish the wraps when serving a bowstring. Its been used for centuries.

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  2 місяці тому

      It's just a method for finishing a knot that was accredited to Jim Rizzuto - but like many other knots & techniques, has been around for centuries and used for many other applications. I see this a lot in the knot world, and it would be nice if we could just standardize things and stop trying to get things named after ourselves, but unfortunately, there are a LOT of egos in the fishing world.

    What about lubricating (spit) the knot before cinching it down? And how about for the Alberto knot ? I watched your video for that one too, and you didn’t wet that knot either before cinching it down? Thanks for “knot easy” series!!!!

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  5 місяців тому

      Lubrication in this case would be counterproductive - it’s used to reduce friction and the buildup of heat, which can weaken line coatings. With the FG, we are trying to get the braid to grab the leader and dig into that outer layer. Lubricating prior might slow this process down by preventing the braid from grabbing hold due to reduced friction and heat buildup. Thanks for watching! 🤘

      Alberto knot is super fast and fail-safe for anything finesse (12lb or less). For heavier line, up to 80#, I just do a Double-Uni, which is also super fast and has never failed. This FG knot looks nice when its done, but is time consuming, easy to miss a step or wrap, and unless you're in a knot-tying contest, completely unnecessary.

      They make a tool called the Knot Assist 2.0 that aids in tying the FG knot - it's easier when it comes to dexterity, but it's equally complicated regarding the steps involved. There are also a couple of other FG knot methods that require less dexterity, but are more time-consuming. @@dyonkers1 I would try starting out with 10 - it’s going to take some strong force to get the braid to bite into the 80lb leader - I definitely suggest using some line tensioners or gloves to cinch. If you find that the knot isn’t cinching properly at 10 wraps, I probably wouldn’t do less wraps at that point, but instead drop down to 80lb braid. What are you fishing for?

      Even if you tie it correctly, it may break when you cinch it just because of the force that it takes to get the braid to bite it. I use 6 lb braid to 4 lb fluoro on my ultra light setup, and I use the Alberto knot to connect them 🤘

    Thanks for the video. I tried this but It does not work for a 10lb braid to a 10 lb floro...the floro wraps the braid instead of the other way around. Tried several times. It seems your method only works when the leader floor is much thicker than the braid. You might want to mention that in your title.

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  4 місяці тому

      It is very difficult with light fluoro. For fluoro = 17lb. I'll keep that in mind for future videos - when I am finished covering the knots I think are worth covering, I am planning to produce some videos that cover all of the most important knots to learn and their specific use cases, including line types, techniques, etc.

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  7 місяців тому +1

      I tie it with leader >= 12 lb. test. As long as you can get the braid to bite down properly into the leader. As you get into the heavier braids, you may have to reduce the number of wraps in order to cinch it properly.

  • @SlowCarsFastSFV

    Did it with 40 lbs mono.. thinking this is pretty easy.. I just tried it with 20 lbs Seguar Gold fluoro.. I got it on the 3rd try. 😅 both with Diamond 8x 50 lbs braid.

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  23 дні тому +1

      3rd try aint bad at all! You might have had an easier time on the 20lb leader with 10-20 lb braid. As soon as I get down to 12 lb. leader, I go straight for the Alberto knot. The FG knot isn't well suited for light line - at a certain point, you're likely to break the line if you apply the necessary force to get the braid to bite into the leader. The Alberto is a great alternative when you get into the lighter stuff.
      Thanks for watching!

      Just looked it up for the first time! Functionally, it's similar to the Uni-to-Uni knot, but it's a Uni-to-Overhand knot instead. Simple to tie, but I question the breaking strength since it employs an overhand knot to secure the leader. The Uni-to-Uni knot is perhaps easier to tie, less wasteful of leader material, and my bet is that it would also be stronger. Just a theory based on my knowledge of similar knots though! I try my best to avoid overhand knots.
