Tracie, you are rocking the sweater as is, I was thinking how great it looked before you started talking about it and tank looks fab with it, I’d wear it the same way.
For what it’s worth, I don’t care for the podcasts with all the extra stuff. I watch yours because it is what it is: talking about knitting, sharing patterns, showing knitted items, YARN and the occasional yell at Georgia! Do NOT change a thing!
Who needs cute???? As long as you bring on the absolute hilarity that you’ve delivered since day 1.... never mind the awesome knitting motivation!! And by the way....you’re way beyond cute!
I wish you’d do a daily podcast! 😆 now that my son is back at college and I have an empty house, you girls are like my friends that keep me company and take some of the quiet away!😍
I really loved all of the chatting this time about your sweaters. As an inexperienced knitter I find it so helpful when you talk about changes you've made or would make and why. I also appreciate information about fiber content and how it works up and why you would or wouldn't use a fiber for your project, etc. I loved this episode so much. I really want to get to Knit City and meet you guys, but unfortunately that's just not possible right now. Feel better, Jodi! See you next time.
Re the cost of a sweater ..... I don't feel bad about what it costs to knit a sweater . If I am going to wear it proudly and no one else has one like it and it's knit to FIT ME , made to my likes and preferences in the colours I love I wouldn't trade that for the 50 -cheapo- sweater I have that I don't wear or that fall apart in the wash or that I'm not pleased with . It's worth every cent to have a quality yarn that bounces back after a hand wash . I bet we could all go to our closets right now and find 3 inexpensive store bought sweater we haven't worn why not make 1 sweater that you will live in.
Della F I totally agree! I can’t afford the pricey yarn at this point in my life but I don’t feel bad about that because I know that someday I’ll be able to and I’ll love it! For me £60ish is the max I could go to but I still work hard to find the best yarns I can in my budget. I think if these dyers can actually make a good wage from their yarn that reflects the amount of work they put into it then things are definitely going right 👍🏼
I totally agree, I just got rid of two sweaters I bought last year that wore terribly and never fit well. I spent $25 (or so) on each of them and I wish I had just put that money towards yarn for one sweater that was going to be exactly what I wanted and fit well.
I agree with Trish. Thank you so much for the laughs and introducing me to new yarns and patterns. I always have a fun time watching your podcasts! Also, great sweaters! I think the positive ease looks great, so don't be so hard on yourself, Tracie!
I'm so glad I was told about your podcast. I love your smiling faces - you make me actually physically smile when I log on. Thank you - it's so much fun to watch such happy ladies who LOVE yarn ♥
Jodi, there's a random word generator, just like there is for numbers. It gives you options of nouns, verbs, how many words, etc. I tried it just for fun with 2 words as the only criteria and it was hilarious the combos it gave! Try it out when you're blanking on a name to give to your bags...
Hi Ladies!!!! Love your sweaters, and will join in January yourSpeedy sweater KAL, I am full time knitter :) I wanted to start Turtle dove, but decided to design my own, without turtle...and am almost half way through in 3 days :) I made my Winterfjell, Elli ( Skeindeer) is fab designer, and now I will make that stranded design in a dress boarder.... I am not going to KNit City, no way...being in Croatia :) Love from a small island in Adriaatic Sea, some 250km from Dubrovnik :)
Tracie I have to say I prefer the colour of the Shibui Silk Cloud to the Kidsilk blue - you said it yourself, its a lot stripier and in my opinion it conceals and distracts the eye from the beautiful LBA. How about trying the Shibui with two strands held together? I love love love those first two colours together, the Shibui lets the LBA sing whereas the Rowan blue hides it, that's all I see when I look at your swatch, the blue stripe. Alternatively you could find a Rowan kidsilk pink or colour similar to the LBA rather than a contrast - I love Rowan Kidsilk Haze and knit a Morning Fog cardi in the Jelly, wear it all the time. But here I feel that blue is not right.
Shut the front door your sweaters are GORGEOUS!!!! And I may have just ordered a sweaters quantity of the Woolfolk in the Raisin color way to knit the turtle dove! Jodi it's stunning I'm so excited to get it cast on! Also could you send your snow towards NY....I'm so sick of the hot humid weather and am ready to wear my knits!!! 😉
You should try a Floozy, Jodi! There’s a girl in the FloozyKAL knitting it in dk but she went down a size. I think that will work, especially if she’s going for a few inches of positive ease. I’m interested to see how that works out because I want to do two version, like lots of other people- a neutral and a bright version. Only, I don’t want to do two in fingering weight. Just a thought.
You two make me laugh out loud with your diarrhea yellow and yarn in all the orifices 😆😆 also, thanks for introducing me to West yarns, they’re local to me because I’m Dutch! And it’s hard finding good indie dyers here so I’m very happy!
I LOVE. YOUR PODCAST. SO VERY MUCH. makes me happy. Thank you so much for the laughter, patterns, FO’s, WIPs and everything else. You girls are wonderful and you always make my day when you are on. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Never change! 😘😁
Tracie, PLEASE DO NOT FROG THE ORIGINAL ELTON!!! That would look stunning day or night. You could dress it up with a black dress or top and add a bit of bling or you could wear it with jeans. I feel the other colours lean more toward everyday wear and could possibly date if you have stark stripes. The La Bien Aimeé and the grey Shibui are made for each other; they merge together beautifully and seamlessly and gives it a more classic look. I'm guessing that you would never wear it over just a bra (or bra-less...) so the fact that the Shibui is a bit gauzy doesn't really matter. I love the colours, I love the drape and the 'gauziness' just makes it look a little bit more posh. Having said all that, just go with your gut. I can only judge by what I see on the screen. You could put your swatches on clothes you currently have, go in areas of different lighting and then decide. Love you guys and the ride you take us on!!
I recently knit a sweater from Katia Concept Cotton Merino and it seems super similar to the Woolfolk Luft -- same chainette structure, cotton/merino blend, listed as aran weight rather than bulky but it's only 10 more yds/50g. And I'm already plotting my next sweater in this yarn, because the structure is so lofty and cozy. Just wanted to mention it as an option since the Katia is more affordable than the Woolfolk ($10 vs. $16 per 50g, and available with volume discount at WEBS).
Hi Jodie and Traci! I am a beginner knitter, thanks to your inspirational videos! I started working on the"Girl from the Grocery Store shawl" and I was wondering if you could do a short video on walking through each step (row) and maybe show a sample on what it is suppose to look like? Worked thru Main Section. Stripe Sequence thru row 25-28 in color 2 then switched back to color 1. (After the first striped section) Then in color 1 where it states Work the 28 rows of the strip seq. 9 more times. I should have 146 stitches. I have 28! Then right after that it states Do not switch to color 1 after last repeat. (I AM ON COLOR ONE). Then says to continue with color 2. Is this where another strip begins? Help! Where am I going wrong? I feel like I am misunderstanding the pattern correctly.
May be extravagant amount to spend, but think of this: designer sweaters cot anywhere from $500-literal thousands. You have a one of a kind designer sweater made with gorgeous yarn that will wear forever! If you paid $200, divide that by at least 10 years wear. Cost annually is now only $20! WHAT A STEAL!
Great podcast full of information. Your sweaters are beautiful. Wish I was coming to Knit City just to meet you both. Your hat and gloves are awesome too. Thanks for keeping it real... My favorite podcast. Cheers from Colorado. I wish it was fall here. Tired of the 90+ degree days. Bring on fall..
I really enjoy your podcast... for lots of reasons! I like seeing women my age & stage of life who also do this craft that gives me so much joy, and I love seeing all your projects, your FOs, your WIPs, dyers, patterns, yarn, talk about various plans and projects... just the whole vibe! You have it so right when you say makers are taking over the "F-ing" world... best line!! :) Also, if you go to Tolt, please give us a heads up because I live a couple hours south of there and have been meaning to get there, but would sure make a plan if I could meet you two! :) So glad you had so much fun at Knit City and I love your sweaters too.
I love you guys! Could you possibly turn up your recording volume? I only have a hard time hearing your videos, and I don't want to miss a thing. Wonderful idea the Speedy sweater KAL. Keep up the great work and don't be shy, turn up your volume!!! Hugs from Missouri.
Jodi, the sweater is absolutely stunning on you!! I saw it at Espace Tricot, but didn't plan to make it (I'm working on Jogi's boxy). However, you have changed my mind!
I just took on homeschooling this year (my son is in first grade, but he went to public school last year) and my knitting/crocheting time has dropped to next to nothing! :( it's just temporary though - we are moving and I didn't want to put him in for a few weeks and then pull him out, so I said I would do it for this year. If we get settled by Christmas though, I'm putting him back in public as soon as I can!! :P Love you, but bye! ;)
Crinkling is NOT a bad thing! If you do it in a gentle, slow way, it is totally an ASMR trigger! Check out Gentle Whisperings on UA-cam. It’s addictive and will relax you like nothing else.
SNOW!!! I had to make sure I wasn't watching a podcast from last year!!! I too hate the summertime heat, but I'm just not ready for snow. (And I live in New England.)
20 something girls make me want to go back to bed lmao. And wax everything. Geezus! Love your sweaters. I’m just going to get a brow wax and eat these cookies. Fuck it. Love you both. Feel better Jodi! We’ve got that crap at my house too
LOL. I had to pause the show and answer you. I'm a homeschooling Mom and I'm knitting while I watch you. My 9 year old is waking up and doing her morning stuff. My 3 year old (just a tiny bit of homeschooling for him) is playing video games and I'm enjoying a few minutes. Otherwise I mostly knit after the 3 year old is in bed at night. I also work from home a few hours everyday so there's not much downtime. I pretty much strictly knit small things so it doesn't take years to finish. Socks, hats, cowls and the occasional shawl are my favorites.
You ladies are making me want to knit all the sweaters! I thought I would knit Lemongrass after I saw Jodie's, now I'm thinking I need to knit Elton first since I live in hot a$$ Georgia. Plus I have yarn in stash for the Elton. Decisions, decisions.....
This will be my first time at Knit City and I'm so excited!! I can't wait to get your patterns. And, you should definitely stop by Tolt sometime. It's my LYS and I feel so lucky to have such a beautiful shop and great community of makers near me.
Hi ladies! I have that beautiful Throwback sweater in the cue now, swatched and ready to start. I purchased the yarn kit and I'm super excited to begin! Jodi, you are doing a steek so you can knit in the round, how is that working out for you? Did you do the crochet or knotted style? I'm ready to start and want to try this as well. Any feedback on the technique would be really, really appreciated. Thanks! Jeanne D
Hi ladies, I haven’t watched in a while so I don’t know if the microphone is new? I also heard the buzzing AND I had my volume on the iPad turned all the way up and had trouble hearing you. Anyone else have volume issues? Thanks for all the inspiration!!
I just finished a sample Portage Sweater for Nicole Clark and can't wait to dive into another sweater! You two have gotten me hooked! As always, thanks for the honesty and the laughs! Looking forward to hearing about Knit City!
NO MATTRESS stitch! Instead KNIT a Triangle and or a Rectangle and sew it in to cover your strap. Make the rectangle so it can stretch enough to allow your head.
Ok, I’m going to share a story and a confession..I found you two about 8 months ago and binge watched all of your podcasts..I love them, and you. So I’m knitting a sweater with raglan sleeves and I have the back and sleeves done and had the front 4” from the armhole cast off and I realised the front panel was not right, it was just too big. I made that hard decision to undo the whole thing and begin again. So even though I’d watched the podcast already, I came back to it so that I could enjoy the banter and not think about starting again..thank you for taking the time to do these podcasts, I don’t have any local knitters, so you are my virtual knitting buddies..
Love this format of your podcast! And I appreciate showing off the patterns. I felt like it was an unattainable yarn commercial (stay at home mom budget) and and gift parade, so much better now. Thank you.
Hi Jodie and Tracie, this is Marian Wooten and I recently posted and asked about the "Girl in the Grocery Store shawl"...well I think figured out where I went wrong. Would still love to see a short video on reading patterns and tips if you could please.
Tracie, you asked for advise with steeking or trimming down sweaters that are too big. Yes! I have done that at least twice for cardigans. I ran a sewing machine stitch up/down where I wanted to shape and trim away to get better fit then cut off the excess knitted fabric. Since both cardigans were 100% wool, I wasn't worried about the frayed inside side seams where I took in the "seams". Now that the cardigans fit better, I wear them all the time.
I love your idea for a sweater knit in January. I have all the yarn ready for a sweater, but with Christmas coming up fast and furious, there is no time for it. I've promised myself that in January that is when I'll knit MY sweater.
Gosh before you said what weight sweater you were knitting in 10 days I was like - how is that humanly possible? But my reference is fingering weight sweaters. :-P
You can always throw it in the dryer for a few minutes (and watch it carefully)...I have done that with a few items that have come out WAY to large after blocking and it just shrinks them down a touch.
Ok little late to the party but I this is the story of my first sweater, I saw a video of a women knit a worsted weight top down raglan in literally 24 hours and I thought "hey I could knit that super bulky cardigan in a weekend" and then I did. I love that thing so dearly it's one of my favorite knitted items.
I enjoyed this episode! Lots of ideas and natural chatter between you. I'm not only interested in what you're knitting but also what has caught your attention and your color ideas. This was a pleasant hour with you! Thanks.
Jodi, what a great challenge for Tracie, now if you will excuse me I think I might challenge myself to a sweater before Knit city as well. Only 13 days to go that's not crazy right?
Will be anxious to see how you find the Beekeeper cardigan pattern to knit. A couple of us have tried her patterns but they are not precise enough for us. Lots of pretty sweaters came out of that kal. Good luck. Keep us posted. Beautiful sweater Jodi.
Yes, you can sew the sides of a sweater and take it in! My sister did this for one of my mom's Alice Starmore sweaters and it looks great. Wonderful knitting ladies!!!
I made the Mayu sweater from espace tricot in felted tweed and shibui kidsilk haze. It is like butta...love it. People can check on the yarnsub.com to find replacement yarn that is more cost effective.
Volume seemed to be an issue with some buzzing as well. The mike worked better when you were closer to it! Great podcast and love love love the sweater inspiration in this episode!
yes. you can use a sewing machine. Sew along with a straight stitch and then zigzag stitch over that and cut away the yarn. I did it to the armhole openings of a contiguous sweater I made that stretched out too much after a couple of wearings. it has held up for years with the sewing machine seams.
Those sweaters are beautiful girls, and Tracie , I think a boatneck is elegant and flattering on women of all ages! Tracie.. love your pattern for Knit City and I think you were confused tho.. and your mitten should be called " a sock mitten" … there's a heel and a toe! And Jodi...we like it! Beeeutiful Hat!
Oh, Jodi! I just dropped my face on the floor! Thank you! ^_^ And it was super nice to meet in at EYF, Tracie! I didn't feel crazy at aaall running after you like that as you were about to leave. Nope. Not at all. ;P
Hi Traci and Jodi! So about the getting hung up on the needle size thing: I once took a knitting class from a yarn shop owner who told me that if you can’t get gauge within two needle sizes, to choose a different pattern. She said that anything further from the original needle just won’t work up right. Ever since then (like 6 years ago), I’ve been sooooo hesitant to knit sweaters. Gauge spooked me, especially since I often have to go down a needle size (sometimes 2). However, recently, and with the advent of podcasts and all of the sharing on Ravelry, I’ve become so much more flexible. And it really does all boil down to the swatch and the fabric you work up.
Jodi your hat is fantastic also!
The world would be f'in' better if crafts-people ruled it!!!
Hell, it can't get much worse (can it????)
What????? Snow?? It's September!!!! Omg
I wish you’d do a daily podcast! 😆 now that my son is back at college and I have an empty house, you girls are like my friends that keep me company and take some of the quiet away!😍
I realize it's pretty off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?

Hi Ladies, That colour work jumper (yes we call them jumpers here in Aussie Land) is to die for. What great colours.
Hi Ladies!!!! Love your sweaters, and will join in January yourSpeedy sweater KAL, I am full time knitter :)
I wanted to start Turtle dove, but decided to design my own, without turtle...and am almost half way through in 3 days :)
I made my Winterfjell, Elli ( Skeindeer) is fab designer, and now I will make that stranded design in a dress boarder....
I am not going to KNit City, no way...being in Croatia :) Love from a small island in Adriaatic Sea, some 250km from Dubrovnik :)

I also agree and the difference in texture would be a great design feature. I love the difference in wt.
Love listening to you two about knitting or anything. FYI There was some buzzing from the sound at times. Knitting sweater KAL! Yes!
Tracie Clements I also heard the intermittent buzzing. Sounded like a phone on vibrate, on a table.

Thank you.
I'm going to knit Turtle Dove but not in Summer heat of 40 Celsius in January 😌 but when I do I'll challenge myself to knit it in under 3 weeks
Hi Jodie and Tracie, this is Marian Wooten and I recently posted and asked about the "Girl in the Grocery Store shawl"...well I think figured out where I went wrong. Would still love to see a short video on reading patterns and tips if you could please.
Omg dying over that slutty pumpkin sock kit. Love love love it 😍. Thx for another great episode 💋❤️🇦🇺
I think your sweater is perfect Tracy....don’t change it! I like the swatch sample better than the sweater on the needles.....go for it!
I'm knitting the Throwback Sweater, but not steeked. ;-D My lys offered it as a class. I chose gray with 3 shades of pink.
Gosh before you said what weight sweater you were knitting in 10 days I was like - how is that humanly possible? But my reference is fingering weight sweaters. :-P
Yes!!! Loved the episode. Thanks so much for your awesome post cast! I agree, crafters unite and the world would be a better place!!
Tracy on your Elton the first choice is gorgeous!! The subtleness is elegant.
AH YES come to Tolt!! *requesting you come on a day I'm working so we can sift through all the goods together :)
great podcast - and i actually like your sweater Tracie ... both the sweaters you both made are amazing. Jodi are colourwork sweater is gorgeous.
Tracie I don’t think your sweater is too big but it’s up to you on 5he amount of ease you’re comfortable with. Love you ladies, from a fellow 🇨🇦
I enjoyed this episode! Lots of ideas and natural chatter between you. I'm not only interested in what you're knitting but also what has caught your attention and your color ideas. This was a pleasant hour with you! Thanks.
I'm with you, Tracey! Fall year round please! Have a blast at Knit City! It's on my Dream Trip list. :)
Jodi, what a great challenge for Tracie, now if you will excuse me I think I might challenge myself to a sweater before Knit city as well. Only 13 days to go that's not crazy right?
I miss you! It has been three weeks and I'm dying to hear about Knit City and see your purchases. I love knitting along with you.
Will be anxious to see how you find the Beekeeper cardigan pattern to knit. A couple of us have tried her patterns but they are not precise enough for us. Lots of pretty sweaters came out of that kal. Good luck. Keep us posted. Beautiful sweater Jodi.
Have to make the Siro socks!! I just put the pattern in my Ravelry cart. You gals always inspire me!!!
Yes, you can sew the sides of a sweater and take it in! My sister did this for one of my mom's Alice Starmore sweaters and it looks great. Wonderful knitting ladies!!!
I have the yarn for the Beekeeper too...hoping to get to this soon! Moving has really cut into my knitting time - STILL!
I made the Mayu sweater from espace tricot in felted tweed and shibui kidsilk haze. It is like butta...love it. People can check on the yarnsub.com to find replacement yarn that is more cost effective.
I do love listening to you two. Can't wait to hear about KnitCity which was, quite frankly, obscene to look at on Instagram and it be so far away!
How do you knit sweaters like nothing at all ? I wish I could knit like you two ladies ! you make such beautiful sweaters!,
Lol Homeschoolers knit when the kids are doing independent work. I do it when they have extra curricular activities lol
Just found you ladies 😁😁 I actually live in spruce grove Alberta myself and that snow is horrible
Volume seemed to be an issue with some buzzing as well. The mike worked better when you were closer to it! Great podcast and love love love the sweater inspiration in this episode!
Love love love how you have started sharing new patterns you have come across. Thanks!!
yes. you can use a sewing machine. Sew along with a straight stitch and then zigzag stitch over that and cut away the yarn. I did it to the armhole openings of a contiguous sweater I made that stretched out too much after a couple of wearings. it has held up for years with the sewing machine seams.
Love your pod cast. I wish I could come to knit city. Sounds like so much fun. Enjoy for me.
I live in hastings in the uk... so I would love to knit your hastings mitts xx😍😍😍
despite the fact that I have three shawls going, while I was watching this I had to cast on a sweater. thank you very much ;-)
I love this sweater Weekender design. I did 2 last year and loved it. I gave one away and regretted it. Cozy sweater. It is great on you.
Was screaming when your stitches fell off your needles on the throwback lol
You ladies are the reason that I have now made six shawls and am still to make my first socks - thank you for the inspiration!
And Californians are in a drought with 90+ degree (F) (ie. ~33C) heat
my sister Margaret sent me your Galliano sock pattern which was perfect after we spent our knit retreat with you in the spring. Casting on asap
Weather here is 105 today and 101 for the next 2 weeks. I can't wait for fall and winter
Jodi- you are such an incredible knitter. Just adore your down to earth personality.
I like the boat neck, too. I wouldn't make it smaller; I'd just wear it with a spaghetti strap camisole. I don't think the straps would show then.
Sound is not good, I have my volume up and I still have trouble hearing you😩
Coming in late on this one but Jodi's sweater: a mod could be the sleeves with the fingerless glove end
I will not be at knit city. Can't wait to start knitting some of Jodi's hat patterns for Xmas gifts.
You gals are blowing up! Patterns, wow. Mitts are outstanding and that hat!
I'm not big on hats - BUT SHAWLS - I'll be all over that one!
Oh, Jodi! I just dropped my face on the floor! Thank you! ^_^
And it was super nice to meet in at EYF, Tracie! I didn't feel crazy at aaall running after you like that as you were about to leave. Nope. Not at all. ;P
Tracie I love your fingerless mittens and I too love a fingerless mitten!
Tracie, I think you need a nice collar shirt to wear with your sweater and the collar will look nicer , In my opinion ;)
Awesome podcast ladies, love that it is not edited 🤪 Off to check out all the inspiration 😍
And it really does all boil down to the swatch and the fabric you work up.
lololol "Jackson!! (low voice) We're podcasting'.
I’m think I want a weekender sweater !!! I have been looking at that pattern for the past year
Wish you guys had a sticker as they are fun to put on water bottles and share our love of you!
