- This wasn't a fight we wanted, but the US Coast Guard decided to shill for the cormorant killers in the US Department of Agriculture, and we weren't going to take their harassment anymore.
Wildlife Services, the USDA group responsible for the cormorant slaughter, has since collapsed the colony with their bloodthirsty ineptitude.
Shame on the US Coast Guard for siding with and shilling for those who are destroying some the country's most beautiful wildlife and the environment.

are you kidding me, those members of the USCG are just doing what they are told, they are not the assholes that are protecting the USDA group, they were given orders and that is what they followed, and to disrespect members of our armed forces like that is just despicable, they were not acting "above the law" they simply came out to talk to them and remind them of the law, that is all! Protesting is one thing and making a statement is one thing, but to disrespect our armed forces like that is just pure wrong. The USCG here was calm and just doing as they were told, Steve was aggressive and looking for a fight.

Why do you have to be throwing dirt on the Coast Guard? They are out there protecting you and maintaining Maritime Law.
As an animal lover and an active duty member of USCG, I'm struggling to find anything wrong with the officer's words or actions. They simply came out to inform you of what you may do that would result in a fine, effectively looking out for you. It's a safe bet none of those officers care one way or the other about the USDA. They came out, did their job, and left you alone. If you want to condemn that's fine, freedom of speech is a fantastic right we are afforded. Just know that when SHARK gets caught out in the dark and stormy and something goes wrong, it's the USCG that will be there to save ya.
what about the lie of how the 500 yards goes....they knowingly bent that to favor the feds in hopes that it would scare them into submission but it didnt work...thats typical attemtped intimidation
the whole approach here was attemtped intimidation...they obviously have had meetings already so there was no reason to approach them here at all...so two fold pisses me off...waste of fuel as taxpayer and was of authority try to strongarm public

406Fire: We were respectful for days, including phone calls and one personal meeting with them. In the end, the CG chose to ally with Wildlife Services, which was involved in the cruel slaughter. The CG knew that WS was feeding them bullshit, but chose to try to bully us anyway.
We realize that the CG was in a tough spot, since it was another government entity involved, but that doesn't mean that we should willingly give up our rights. We had to stand up for ourselves.
In the end, the reckless slaughter of Wildlife Services led to the collapse of the bird colony. They proved our point. We would rather they had just done the right thing.
If the bird had was half way decent on the table, hunters would take care of the population. I do not know one person that will eat a cormorant.

The Shark capt started pushing the buttons with his confrontational attitude. The comment that he wasn't going to back down implies he's ready to engage in a confrontation with the USDA boat. He was attempting to escalate the situation by baiting the coasties, trying to get them to bite. The CG was professional. They have saved countless lives and interdicted human trafficking and drug smugglers. They're doing their job. He should argue his case in the court system; he might actually win his case, whatever it was.

Just because the Coast Guard has saved lives does not give them authority to violate laws on the high seas or constitutional rights. These Coasties were asked by another Government Agency to keep protesters and those people who want to document the killing of sea birds away from them so that they could do the killing un-molested. The Department of Agriculture has no real authority to ban anyone from any area. You people that think they do need to research the US Constitution and the LIMITED authority that the founders gave to the government. too many people give up their own rights and authority to the government without researching if that government agency even had the authority in the first place.
He's just stating a point. This isn't a video about the USCG is or about. I get what you're saying that he should fight this in court, and maybe he did. But this goes to show that if that USDA boat comes near them, he's not just gunna go packing just because that other boat wants to cause problems. Sometimes it's best to confront the problem then run from it. Honestly, I'd do the same, if the Capt of that USDA boat wants to create future problems and think that protection order is gunna keep them safe and you have been caught on camera, then you're gunna get your ass ripped.

For anyone else struggling to understand the context of this video: SHARK is an acronym for “Showing animals kindness”.
These people are animal rights activists. Im not shaming or agreeing with what their doing, as Im really too ignorant to take a stance on their purpose. I just want to help others understand the context of whats happening and why the coast guard was interacting with them. Save you from a sinking ship and their hailed as heros. Instruct you to stay clear of a protected work area and they’re enemies. Stay at least 500 feet away from the protected area and the USDA vessel can’t violate your space. Simple.

Here in CANADA there is more crystal clear fresh water and lake area than in any other country in the world, with 563 lakes larger than 100 square kilometres. I don't know why or how, but what I do know is that there are Now hundreds of islands completely devoid of any vegetation, it having been completely eradicating by the volume of cormorants living on those islands (and I'm told that theoretically it's more likely the volumes of their body wastes killing all of the vegetation). The CG should have done their homework, it only takes a few videos to see SHARK doesn't violated the law, nor do they allow the law to violate them.
I actually pity those guys from the coast guard here. Being send into this situation with Steve already being easy to irritate due to prior actions of the coast guard's commander...must have been a shitty day for them. XD
I really hope the coast guard will leave SHARK alone. As long as they keep checking the 500yard distance they have no other business with SHARK and shouldn't bother them. Tho I asume they will find something trivial (like littering XD) or just make something up that sounds fancy and law-like. Wouldn't be the first time.
Makes sense, otherwise, they could sheepdog away all boats anywhere. However, a little sugar goes a long way. I know you have been abused by the law officers, but you must treat every new person with a clean slate approach. it is easy to escalate but not de-escalate.

And that's to never back down. they always learn the hard way. when they're doing something wrong and SHARK is trying to expose that to the public. no matter what games they try to play. The Coast Guard is just doing their job. I'm assuming that you don't have an actual job, considering that you sit in a boat all day complaining and protesting. I know it's well within your rights to protest, but you shouldn't disobey a federal agent, such as a Coast guardsman, simply because you are upset that animals are being killed. The 500 meter perimeter is meant for the safety of the crew on the boat and the crew of yours. Just think before you talk next time.

That is for your safety so you or anyone of your family members do not accidentally get shot. Plus, you have the whole Ocean and you chose to sit right by probably the only boat in sight. If the public had any idea what restrictions the Coast Guard has, you might have a clue why they have to follow the Laws they are given. Daily, they risk their lives to save lives, protect our ports, prevent tons of illegal drugs from entering our states, AND tolerate the public's inability to use common sense when on the water, etc., etc.. These men and women are just doing their job and obeying orders. If you want to be upset at someone, then take it out on the Dept. of Agriculture. Semper Paratus!

My father was a commercial fisherman for 17 years out of Dan Diego. This type of bullshit is what put him out of business once and for all!
The legal fees after first two years was $100,000 and didn't actually get settled for almost 7 after he was long gone from the industry. The red tape is always in their favor and they have all the money in the world to spend on attorneys! One day you can do this 12 hours later you can't then when you don't they ask why you're doing it the way they said too!
The coast guard is now no different than the BLM! No longer are they honorable but just tax collectors like our police!

I generally like the idea of the Coast Guard Corporation, saving people, defending "borders" from invasion by....Martians or something, but "enforcing" arbitrary proximity regulations? - Not so much, specially if said "zone" requirements are being abused as a form of bullying those who would "dare" to question the legality/ethics of the purported reasons for said "zones".
I think that Coast Guard Crew must have been a reserve crew or something. They seemed unsure and a little lost.
I would have explained to dude in about one sentence of how the cow eats the cabbage and if that didn't slap a little respect into his attitude I would have hand cuffed him and gave him a free ride to the County Jail for a free booking. Booyeah!!!

screw those guys?! that's funny because those are the same people that come to save you when your stranded at sea. they do the job they are supposed to do. they get a call and they respond, be it search and rescue or law enforcement. you can't sit there and scream and swear at them. you wouldn't do it to a cop don't do it to coast guard. if you comply and are respectful it makes everyone's day so much easier. bottom line is have respect they do a job you wouldn't.

at the end of the day, these guys are just doing their jobs. you cant assume they are all for the mass kilings of animals. it also isnt their (the coast guards) job to regulate the populations of wild animals, thats more a concern for the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
