I got to give you props for being able to lift the hood off by yourself. I've never tried it because 1) I don't want any more back problems. 2) I don't want to possibly damage the radiator neck or fuel bowl or anything else I forgot to unhook. 3) do any kind of paint or sheet metal damage. If I take one off myself I get a engine hoist with nice straps and lift straight up nice and slow and make sure everything is unhooked and cleared. If I have a helper each person goes on the side and lift straight up. The key is straight up. Naturally you'd have to take your steering wheel off.
@@MrJustinWheeler I'm looking for a transmission adapter for a 7.3L power stroke to adapt it to a Ford 8N Ford tractor where and how is this done I am in the process of getting a Ford 8N and build one like the 7.3 diesel Ford 8N on UA-cam but I'm planning on having quad turbos mounted to the diesel Ford engine is there any help from you to point me in the right direction to get the transmission adapter for my build
Removing the steering wheel helps a lot. I have a 9N with the battery sitting higher and centerline and without the ratchet strap modification. - Joe -
The one i wirked on, i took the fuel line loose from the carb, fitted on a piece of rubber fuel line to the steel line and let it drain into a fuel can
Very helpful video! I was hoping I didn't have to remove those front bolts and I could just "swing" it up and off like a door (where it would be attached, but out of the way), but I guess the fuel tank is too close to the radiator to allow that.
Supposed to be square caged nuts on the radiator support for the dog legs but most rusted away decades ago. New aftermarket hoods are mean to get to fit correctly.
So, what I learned from this is that it is important to be social enough to at least have one friend to help you remove the hood. I was really wanting to see how to put the hood assembly on, since I recently bought a fully restored 41 9N, but the hood assembly was not on. So, I could reverse engineer it easily from the video, but I'm wondering if I should attach the grill before or after putting the hood on. All my parts seem to be factory fresh.
Do you have or know where I can buy an Upper Right-Hand side 8N Lift Arm Hub? The round ID is splined. It attaches on the round spline that goes thru the upper case and has the same round spline on the left-hand side. The other end is forked and pinned to the lift arm. Thanks.
I have a 50 model. I need to do the same thing . When I take my hood off. I want to modify a bracket to place my gas tank on. So I just flip my hood over. Like the Massey's Ferguson TO30.
I don't think any of these come with owner's manuals any more. It seemed to me that some company wanted an arm and a leg for a copy. These things are so simple that fortunately there are videos from people who have figured things out.
I wish I could lift mine by myself but no. A hoist/come-along and sling set up can make one man job easier though. Back injuries are no laughing matter.🚑🩼🦽
Well I learned that the grill is what is keeping me from removing my hood. Thanks.
Glad that helped. Good luck Roy!
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed the commentary as well. Nice comedic touch to some of the issues we run into with these old gals.
Thank you!
You made me laugh, but I did learn that I was right in thinking I needed to drain the fuel.
I thank you!
You’re welcome! Happy to help!

Your method is a smart one. Ideally I’d like to have two helpers, but more often than not, I am working alone. I need to invest in a decent hoist.

I remembered the first time I took that sucker off too. It was a couple decades ago and I STILL remember it. I had just as much trouble 😂😅
Pain in the ass, ain’t it?? Haha

The ratchet strap mod was intended to be temporary. But it works so good, I just left it. Nice observation. Haha.

For the record guys its easier to take the bolw bolt out and take a funnel and 5 gallon gas can it fits perfectly under the tractor

Very cool video... 😁👍 Just subscribed.
Thank you, Kenny!

Hey Carl! I'd recommend putting the grill on AFTER the hood if you have a second set of hands. Good luck on the project!
Love your videos man good luck watch that hillbilly stuff!!! 😊🍺
Haha, thanks Douglas!
volume too low, but still good to watch.

Yes sir, that would be nice!
I’d check the owner’s manual. It’s usually in the glove box. Or not.
Lol I’ve been looking all over for the glove box! 🤣

If you think you're hood is heavy. I have a 1952 with a Funk 6 cylinder conversion and two gas tanks.
Haha man I don’t want to even think about lifting that. I feel for ya.
@@MrJustinWheeler it a good thing I've got an overhead chain hoist in my shop.
@@kevingaddis7276 man that’s been on my list of things to do. I need one bad. Did you buy an off the shelf setup or order something custom?
@@MrJustinWheeler the hoist is off the shelf but the rail and trolley I fabricated .
Heck yea 2 people it's so heavy
It's heavy very very heavy
Yes sir it is. Probably better to get the help of a friend or two.
