  • Old Glory, our Ford 8N tractor died while I was grading the fence line. We find fuel in the oil pan, a loud noise when we cranked over the engine. So we do compression test, find the the starter damaged with a broken gear. So we replaced the starter, change the oil & filter and antifreeze along with new spark plugs. We clean the distributor cap and rotor.

    Congratulations! Happy to know it works….Just take a wire and shove it into the fuel connection located at the bottom of the fuel tank. There’s probably lots of rust floating around you fuel tank.

    I just went through a battle getting a new ring gear installed on the flywheel on my '51 8n project. The first one got warped trying to get it hot enough to expand. The 2nd one, the machine shop ended up(with my approval) chucking the flywheel in a lathe and cutting a few thousanths off the flywheel and then they were successful in gettin the ring gear on. Nobody else has ever had that problem as far as I know. The old ring gear had about 15 teeth eaten down flat and the OE starter was toast too.

      Oh man, that's what I was worried about on ours. Some of the teeth had some signs of wear, but not enough to justify replacing it. It's been a great tractor, it will sit for months, but always fires up first try.

    FYI, two turns open on the sediment bowl shut off valve for normal operation. When your tractor starts to run out of gas open the valve fully open gives you a gallon of gas reserve

    You never said if you found the other half of the old starter gear. I’d be worried if it’s still in the bell housing somewhere it could get caught by the flywheel and break the bell housing.

    Might want to check the timing gear - or chain.

    You have a piston about to go out the side of the motor!!! I had one that started knocking when I was bush hogging and POW!!! Came out side of motor!!! Front piston!!!

      I hope not. The noise has gone away after replacing the starter. Tractor still fires up and sounds good. Sorry to hear about yours. I'd like to rebuild it at some point, hopefully before something similar happens to it.

    Where did that broken drive gear end up at

      We were able to fish a few small pieces out using a flexible magnet, appears most of it was chewed up between the flywheel and casing.,

    Advice. even though the music is annoying as hell at least stop it while talking so your voice can be heard. could not here sometimes with the wind and talking low.

      Agreed! After some previous similar feedback we have since stopped having the back ground music on new videos when talking. Thanks for the feedback!

    that’s not cylinder number 1

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  Рік тому

      You are correct, I should have been more clear as to that being cylinder 4. I was only referring to that as the order we were testing. Thanks for pointing it out.
