Imagine not learning it at all, at any age. I get so many ah-ha moments from JP, and I think ah-ha moments are valuable whatever your ability to act upon them. May God bless you and give you at very least 20 years to act upon JP's teachings. His teachings make me feel guilty for every hour I waste.

I've spent the last ten years following my interests in psychology, philosophy, and the nature of reality and no one I've come across brings together the greatest thinkers of all time in such a concise and purposeful way as Dr. Peterson does. At the same time he calls out the status quo of materialist thought that dominates modern thought and is bringing the subjective aspect of life, it's underlying meaning and purpose in the spirit of Jung back in to the light in a profound and, I think, spiritual way in the truest sense of the phrase. No dogma, no illusions other than recognizing how they operate in our thinking, this is what we know about how things work, and this is what it means to your experience in life. It actually gives me hope for the future that people are being taught this material, it's truly brilliant!
I've watched his lectures multiple times over the last month or so, and I've come to consider him to be probably the most important thinker alive today, and I don't say that lightly. If it's true, as I've come to understand, that the outer world is ultimately a reflection of the state of the inner world, then this is the 'stuff' that's needed to address the insanity we see in the world today!
    Thank you Dr. Peterson!!

    • @Liara_I_Sorry
      @Liara_I_Sorry 7 років тому +28

That's funny, after watching several of his lectures challenging pronouns, that same thought sprung to my head, "could this be the most important thinker in Canada today? How come no other person (to my knowledge) has significantly challenged this subject or been able to articulate an argument for opposing it. Is it possible Peterson is the only person with the intellectual capacity to do so? For everyone else besides Peterson, it's like trying to define art, I can't define it, but I know it when I see it! Okay...that's not really useful in an argument. And that's everyone else.

I've heard it said about Walt Disney, that he insisted that every scene in his films either advance the plot, or develop a character. If not, no matter how beautiful or expensive the scene was, it was out.
This is what I get out of Peterson's lectures: every word is there for a reason, and either advances the proof of his point, or has the potential to develop the listener's character.

Since I don't use them often, I don't have an immediate recall of their definition, thus by the time I go through my personal dictionary, he has already used two or three more words I need to look up. "I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”

Look at how animated Jordan is in this video! He lives and breathes this. He is in his element, fully engaged and totally living in the moment! It gladdens my heart just watching him!
Whenever I see Jordan, I think of the saying, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going!" These past few years have been tough on him but he fights for what he knows as good, honest and inspiring. It's in his core being!

He said “ we don’t really see people we see shadows” blew me away. I get that. I think it is because our society has gotten so populated our brains can’t deal with so many people who are strangers. Our brains can only handle those we are intimate with. My child now adult is on the autism spectrum and suffers greatly in public. she is wonderful when she is at home with family. But in public, She doesn’t see people as shadows she sees them as real and clear and individual it overwhelms her and she cannot take so much She cannot protect her nervous system by shadowing the people around her, so she melts down.

Almost Christ-like as he voluntarily shoulders all the responsibility he can and struggles uphill toward the Good while the modern Philistines torment him with their malevolence. He has done the heavy lifting for us in some respects, ferreting out the wisdom from the greats and applying to our current woes. His intellect, voracious reading , deep reflection, genuine compassion combined with his amazing professional resume ....... At 64, I'm stunned at the impact he has had on me. Never heard of him until 2020. I'm recently retired... senior management, chemist, musician, motorcycles, tolerate technology...Then, Bang. I've got hundreds of hours into JP this year. After years of following Dr JBP and consuming 100’s of hours of his content with tremendous gratitude, I had a lightbulb moment during this talk. I’ve finally realized why the depth of his ideas have still not gotten easier to decipher.
I previously thought it was because I can listen to him over and over and uncover more depth each time.
But I just realized it might also be that I get distracted by my sheer amazement of the wisdom he so effortlessly articulates, which hinders my ability to cover my awareness with what he’s saying without part of my awareness being distracted by my amazement at the deep and effortlessly articulated wisdom.
Now that I am mindful of that observation and therefore can eliminate it as a distraction, I feel like my comprehension of the depth is more efficient.
strange observation but I wanted to share that thought.

Listened to a cpl clips of this dude, but wasn't really meshing with his vibe. Seemed quite defensive and aggressive in his demeanor, which made it hard to get on the same wavelength. But something kept me going thru his ideas, until I landed on this clip. Absolutely brilliant the way he articulates this whole concept of reading between the lines (matter) and following the light under the map. That analogy of life knocking u into shape aligning ur molecular structure like a diamond was just beautiful.
This concept of chasing what speaks to u, resonates with me in a way I can't explain.
Such an important and critical aspect to life, so eloquently articulated, with such positive beautiful vibes.

That "defensive and aggressive" you were hearing is what we call "passion". It's an easy mistake. What makes it difficult for Peterson, is that everything he says makes sense - it is logically consistent. If he can't find consistency, he keeps working at it until he does, and if he says something that he doesn't fully understand, HE SAYS SO. This is a difficult thing for many people of the post-modernist persuasion, who reject logic, and the concept of reality.
