Dont neglect the small disciplines. Cleaning your room, making your bed, washing the dishes, making your food, cutting the grass, taking the garbage out, waking up early, exercising, etc. If you neglect them, the great ones will never happen. All those small disciplines empower me to make it through the day and accomplish bigger ones, like study goals, work goals, relationship goals, etc.

Dude you're not too late. Peterson does make it sound like there is a bleak outlook if you're older, but lots of people go back to school after having kids or whatever. I've lost about 15 years, am almost forty, and back in intermediate algebra in college. (which is actually pretty good considering I haven't done math in over a decade.) Luckily I got a LOT done when I was young, so it won't be too long before I'm done with my BA even going part time. You just have to work a little harder at things until you get the hang of it, but it's surprising how rapid you can get back to your old mindset once the negative influences are gone, and if you can't get away from them, you have to do stuff exactly like what you are doing- you are seeking out better influence on your own. Like...I knew just how little math I knew before I went back and I re-learned all the basic stuff which totally prepared me for the class. Better late than never. Doing nothing gets you nowhere. Don't despair. If you want another really good motivational speaker- just look for the "cut the bulkshkt" vet tv video. I think it's exactly the kind of thing a lot of people need to hear whether they are veterans or not. Speaking of which, I need to quit screwing around on UA-cam and go work on homework. Oh one other thing-if you go back or are going back to school, I bet you have a totally different attitude about it, seeing it for the gift that it is instead of thinking of it as some crappy thing you have to do. I'm looking forward to taking full advantage of all kinds of things the university offers- like..I'm so excited that I get to have access to books and scientific papers.. What I'm getting at is I am a much happier person if I am greatful for things. And be greatful for your health. Everyone takes that for granted until you get sick and addiction is a sickness. You were severely chronically ill for five years. Appreciate the fact that you've got your health back. God bless.

I have friends who have been in and out of prison, I have a brother who was in and out of the can. That hasn't stopped me from getting an education and shouldn't stop you, friend. Keep striving. I’ve reached a point in my life where I have to convince myself every day that my life is worth continuing. It can be so easy to sink into a hole when your life feels like decades of failure. I only found Jordan Peterson’s talks a little over a week ago and every bit of his media I consume gives me hope.
I know the only person that can get me out of this is me, and I’m very glad that there’s a man like JP in the world to help me every step of the way.

Good on you man. A few years back I was at the lowest rock bottom of my life. I was 19. I thought no one cared for me. I went through a list of everyone... For a week I really considered ending it. Even my one year old son at the time wouldn't care. Not today. Not for a few years... But 10, 20, 30 years down the line it would really affect him and I didn't want to leave him like that. My only other option was to become a better person.
Its a tough journey man. I won't say it hasn't been. Its been six years this December. But it sure as hell has been worth it.

That is why I trust this man 100%. He has seen the shadow side of existence first hand AND come back to speak to us about it in the form of a clinical psychologist. I guess that is a very ...very...rare thing.

What 'shadow side'? He drank a bit like almost everyone-else? He got to skip a grade and was skinny? Het got to attend a prestigious university? It seems to me the man lead an incredibly sheltered life with none of the hardship people in the lower classes commonly experience.

Dog Lover he was on anti-depressants and his body got addicted to them. So when he tried coming off the meds he went through such severe withdrawals that it was literally killing him and they couldn’t get the drug out of his system because of this. So they had to seek treatment in Russia bc the US & Canadian healthcare process was extremely behind for what they were needing in Jordan’s unique situation. I believe he is doing a lot better now. I heard from his daughters FB page that he is currently residing in Florida. I’m not sure what he’s doing exactly. Probably still recovering. I haven’t kept up recently. I got all this info from his daughters UA-cam channel and FB page.

7:49 I cried as I laughed with this guy and maybe he was crying too because what the professor said was so true; it's like being crushed by nihilism and hopelessness for so long, suffering for it, and finally seeing some kind of light to aim for, like being saved, and it's so so relieving that I can't help but weep with regret and joy for my wasted past and for the potential of the future. I wish so badly that I could've heard this when I went to school. That part of my life is done, but I'm still young (24) and I finally know what to do with myself. I will struggle with all my soul for the rest of my life on behalf of the good because it seems as apparent to me as it is to Dr. Peterson that there's nothing more meaningful or useful in combating the tragedy of life to do so.
This man is literally my hero, and the world is better to have had him. I'm so unbelievably grateful I'm having trouble describing it. Thank you Mr. Peterson. Thank you.

If my opinions can provide you some additional support or confirmation, I can say reading good books does make a significant difference. It's hard to describe how reading the words written by individuals (alive or dead) who invested their time to appropriately inspire, teach, and support others who they may never meet, coach, or be able pass on knowledge to within their sphere of influence or lifetimes. Additionally, if you stumble after this, the time spent in recovery to stand back up is never wasted. Understand and learn from your experiences, which will propel you forward. Learning never ends. As example, I am pursuing another degree to expand myself further to take myself to better place. I wish you the best as you strive to achieve the better place in your path. 👍

It has been only 3 day since i have said - GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, ONLY 3 days. Definitely they were the best 3 days (as one by one) i have ever had in this year or even more than that.
As a student a have a lot work to do and now except that I'm trying to keep up with the class after 2 week absence.
During these 3 days I was exhaused (literally - after school I was able to sleep while standing). Despite that I was extremely happy and motivated. I could say to myself - I'm still standing - I can do even MORE.
Simply started to do what this guy says. Yes it is that simple.
And while writing it I was thinking that I'm behaving just like a shitty motivational coach or sth similar to that.
It is really worth to consider doing even one thing this man advices.

The sad part is there are some people out there who take Dyson's words as truth. After listening to these wonderful words by Peterson, I wonder how someone in their right mind can come to the same conclusion that Dyson has.

Dyson is working for a movement that wants to change public opinion and therefore the world view. These people don't tell the truth they use clever slogans to manipulate masses. They don't even respect the people or want to improve their life. They just want to destroy other elites and take their place.
