We figured we'd put Georges Mugen Civic Si on the Dyno as it sits. We have a graph with the stock tune, the drop in tunes provided with the Flash Pro for the K+N intake and more This part 1.
I am so glad you guys are posting 8th gen civic videos. I wanted a S2000 but I came across a 08 si coupe for cheap and bought it. I am so excited to watch all the mods you guys are going to do. Keep up the good work guys.
Blake Ferrell its a fun car to drive, my gf also has the 08 Si coupe in black. I drive it every now and then when she wants to drive my 99 prelude. I love the shifts, smooth, short and precise. It also tends to want to hang up in RPMs. All stock, no mods. Its her daily. Its a great and fun daily for sure. 👍

Coming back to this video, it's so refreshing to see my 2 favorite Honda youtubers on the same video. I remember when the Mugen FA5s dropped. They were undesirable because the markup here in California had them costing the same as a brand new S2K and all you were given were the rims, aerokit, exhaust and suspension as mentioned. 15 years later, the discontinued wheels and exhaust have retained their value and prices of these Mugen FA5s have done well, too. I've seen listings from $10k-$24K locally. I'd expect the prices to go up from there in the next 15 years. But then again, these prices are similar to used S2K prices as of 2022.
Love seeing these cars. Having such a limited quantity is what makes them rare. I know 2 people personally who own a Mugen Si. Obviously no improvement power wise, but the styling and “Mugen” badge sets it apart. Wouldn’t pay for a Mugen Si. I’ll be fine with a regular FA5. Considering I already have a 2020 Type R. I’d love to own an si to just mess around with.
Hey John and George. That generation Civic (especially the 4 door) is still one of my favorites, so I'm loving this content. That center display is really cool and I think the car looks awesome. Shoutout to this episode's special guest stars.🙌 I had to laugh when you started pronouncing those names. One of the first mods I did in '95 on my '94 GS-R was a GReddy exhaust. i worked at a dealer as a tech when they were sold. only 500(maybe 1000) of them made, most dealers only got one. we had the one on our lot for like a year and a half....haha
@@LHTPerformance No doubt! Wasn't suggesting anything other than it's probably working against you. K&N is also notorious for missing the center of the air stream with the mass air flow sensor. There are very few companies out there that flow test and set their intakes. Most drop that mass air flow sensor in the Airstream and call it a day without it ever aligned.

I bought a 09 FA5 ralleye red and I love this car. I’m going to keep her forever and just keep rebuilding whenever it goes bad, thinking of supercharging or turbocharging it, not sure what do, I want a reliable car with 300whp.

I got one myself it was badly taking care of im slowly restoring it to its prime and better, everything is stock from the Mugen si parts it comes with, I was wondering if I put a kraftwerks rotrex kit with a stock cat or high flow cat would it still pass smog? Im in california and I had a 05 dc5 k24a4 block stock tsx internals and k20z1 head stock and a fuel rail also had a quiet exhaust forgot the name was rare from i remember japan made and it had shorty headers with a cat and a old 3 year tune from church tuning what the seller told me when I bought the car and I think it had a carb legal intake i believe it was and it passed smog one day my dad took it for inspection since it was time for passing, while I was asleep and when he came home he told me it had passed and I was very suprised so do you think it would have a chance on my 8th mugen si stock with a rotrex kraftwerks kit to pass how the rsx did? (sadly it was running a really old tune and revved maybe to high and had bad rod knock and that was the end of that car, didn't have money at the time as a teen to go for a new tune which I had believed caused the rod knock or he had poorly put the motor together previous owner)
I recommend getting a true cold air intake or a custom made one that k&n is not efficient and during the summer it heat soaks horribly i had it and sold it and put the stock airbox back on.
Very nice video, I have that same dasaita head unit for my 9th gen , but I still csnr figure out how to get Hondata to work, it's installed, but it won't sync, I didn't know the torque app could work, I have the full version, guess I will try it tomorrow and see.
Cloud Thomas I unplugged the Flashpro and plugged it back in and it worked. If you noticed the green light on the Flashpro was flashing rapidly when it’s like that it won’t connect.
George Fitzgerald thank you, but my issue is I can’t even get my flash pro to pair with my radio, it see it when I go to Bluetooth, when I click pair it doesn’t do anything. It just ask me if I want to pair it, I click yes and nothing happens, so not sure what’s up.

Or you meant torque pro, because I tried it with both hondata and they both crashed, I was able to get hondata mobile from the play store to connect to the flashpro, but once I tried to click on anything to get a read out it froze then the app crash, and the hondata dash wouldnt even open, it just open then crash

Did you pay for Torque or just download the free app. Could be that you need the full version? Also, I have the Hybrid Racing intake for my 8th Gen. Probably the best intake if you plan on replacing yours and not going KW S/C.

Did the flashpro work with your android head unit? With my android hu what i did to connect it chinese bt elm bt obd2 adaptor is i paired it first using the bluetooth app within the android radio. Once its paired, you can open torque pro and it should work.

How does the CARB compliant "stock tuned" compare? Or how do the other CARB compliant tunes compare, for that matter? Less power than the "race" tunes?
Dam you made almost the same power I did and I have way more parts. I either need a new tuner or my car is slow lol. I made 196hp with sri, p2r spacer with gaskets, rdx injectors, aem 340 fuel pump, stock header with 70mm high flow cat and 2.5 inch exhaust system. Dyno tuned on ktuner v2 on a dyno jet
damn i really want one of these but i cant seem to find one in atl 😂. ima get one of these eventually at the right time and right day if god permits 🙏🏽
i have that dash just diff android os but i used torque pro with flash pro bluetooth, i got mines to work by setting up a password in flashpro manager and reconnect it , you first paired it in the android setting bluetooth screen then in torque app just select flashpro, and if you already got it to connect just make sure the communication setting in torque pro app under baud rate is set to automatic
They usually make 175-185whp stock. I’ve been tuning them in multiple dyno before we owned one. With the intake and hood open, it’s good for another 10-12whp over stock.
This Mugen si not worth to buy... Same as a base civic si. Only bodykit+ mugen wheels+ Spoiler+ Mugen Exhaust+ mugen knob. Mugen Engine not special. Same HP as base civic si lol.
The Mugen exhaust & forged wheels are nice things to have. The "full-fat" Mugen 8th-gen Civics (the Mugen Type R Euro and the Mugen RR) with the 240hp Mugen engines were a lot more expensive than this...
rsxteufel So you would sell a car you really like and own out right, enjoy to drive and modify and buy a car 3 times more expensive and get a loan for 🤔.
The Civic Si is very close to the Type R sedan from Japan (FD2) -- arguably the best Type R ever made: ua-cam.com/video/zOZ1M8TeCOw/v-deo.html (Seen here racing a Mini Cooper JCW and Megane R26R on Best Motoring.) :) [As for the turbo Type Rs, I prefer the FK2 to the FK8 -- I like the smoother styling and overall packaging and design.]
With a base map, your not gonna be gaining much hp. The big difference from stock to base map is lower Vtec Engagement point, eliminating rev hang, and a smoother progressive power band.

Were those base maps MAF or MAP based? I ask because you have to search a bit more for the MAP based ones, which supposedly make a difference.

@Sergio Aguirre No, LOL! It has Mugen exhaust and a Hondata custom reflash, that makes more power than the conic K&N alone.
The Mugen exhaust & forged wheels are nice things to have. The "full-fat" Mugen 8th-gen Civics (the Mugen Type R Euro and the Mugen RR) with the 240hp Mugen engines were a lot more expensive than this...

The Civic Si is very close to the Type R sedan from Japan (FD2) -- arguably the best Type R ever made: ua-cam.com/video/zOZ1M8TeCOw/v-deo.html (Seen here racing a Mini Cooper JCW and Megane R26R on Best Motoring.) :) [As for the turbo Type Rs, I prefer the FK2 to the FK8 -- I like the smoother styling and overall packaging and design.]
The OEM Mugen lip looks like crap. Over styled.
With a base map, your not gonna be gaining much hp. The big difference from stock to base map is lower Vtec Engagement point, eliminating rev hang, and a smoother progressive power band.
