Hyram: WEAR F-ING SUNSCREEN!
Me: Bold of you to assume I'm leaving my house
you still have to wear it though ^^'
I don't really go outside either but dr.dre has a good video on whether you should wear sunscreen inside or not.
Long story short: yes,because windows.
o c e a n b l u e any natural light and you still need sun screen! hyram says this a lot
Wearing sunscreen non-stop is NO good because : 1. Vitamin D. 2. Red skin signalizes when it’s out of anti-oxidants, read about it. 3. NIR spectrum which causes mutation in skin cells and gets deeper through your skin that UVa/UVb, but you don’t know that cause of SPF. 3. Most of SPF themself are not 100% safe any way. Again read more research about it, cancer stats etc. The most safe would be protecting yourself from getting red skin or use SPF in extreme cases.
@@yourdadsof1325 you guys in the comment section probably haven't been in a state where you have your windows (like not open open but only the top open) with the curtains closed and lived like that a short 3 months without seeing any daylight
Btw, since the moon reflects sunlight, shouldn't you use sunscreen at night as well? 😂😂😂
No more Dream He actually goes over that in his liza koshy reaction video! he says it’s not necessary but it does no harm especially if you do your skincare pretty late after you wake up or you have a lot of windows in your room hitting your bed with sunlight in the morning before you wake up

Hyram is an incredible communicator. I think it's a special talent to be able to explain in understandable terms how the science of skincare works. I think that's why he is so successful. He doesn't only make learning about skincare easy, but he makes it fun and relatable. What an absolute gem of a person

Honestly exfoliating is the most confusing part of skincare for me, thanks for making this video!

EXFOLIATION: start off slowly like once every two weeks etc. if you notice soreness and redness and is painful then girl stop yesterday. if you notice fewer dark spots and more glowy then it's good, PATCH TEST products so that you don’t get an allergic reaction, don’t let the tip-off the product touch your face because that’s where bacteria grows and bacteria is bad
dyu know whether you’re meant to apply a chemical exfoliant? i wanna use paulas choice bha liquid in the morning do i put it on straight after cleansing (i use cerave idk if that matters lol) or do i moisturise and then put the paulas choice bha on? and do you moisturise after the paulas choice or what?
Me:* putting on suncream bc Hyram said to. *
Ireland: * rains *
Hahahahah
But☝🏼 I actually think it might still be important to wear sunscreen even when it’s cloudy/rainy because there are still UV rays which can cause damage (I think). In summer in Australia we get a fair bit of rain and cloudy gloomy days and it sometimes feels like winter, but when I check the UV index it’s 13 (extremely high). You wouldn’t think you’d need a sunscreen 😳
UV rays are not stopped by clouds or rain, even if visible light looses intensity.

Before watching Hyram I was using TJ Maxx whatever cheap cleanser and moisturizers I could find (Clean & Clear included) I’d use sheet masks like half the week, SUPER ABRASIVE EXFOLIATORS because I was told they’d clear up dark spots, I used spf like once every three weeks and I couldn’t figure out why my acne was getting so bad. Jesus I’m just now realizing how ass my routine was. Now I’m on Curology, I use Cetaphil, Cerave, the Ordinary and sunscreen EVERY MORNING. My skin is already doing so much better thanks to you !!!! Thank you !!!
I'm pretty sure the way I found you was your video on the ordinary peel. Then I watched this one and found out about how scrubs are bad and immediately my st. Ives blackhead scrub turned into foot scrub, my skin care routine started to grow, and I learned from you everyday, I'd watch at least one video. Now, I know the bumps on my face are milia, not moles like I thought were growing. They've started coming out on their own with very little help (not popping but I did have to help my "pearl" get out of one spot.) My skin has changed so much for the better, and you've were my first skin care youtuber I found, besides dr. Pimple popper, that's how we all start off, though. So thank you, Hyram. Sometimes physical exfoliation is kind of necessary for my face, particularly the extra-greasy t-zone and chin. But I use a clean terry cloth rag for exfoliation, gently rubbed in circles, or a fine clay mask (which I count as exfoliation because when you wash it off it has a little mechanical action against the skin).
Hyram is like the Brad Mondo of skin care.

I’ve been using the ordinary glycolic acid toner. It’s really all I need these days for my acne which has been absolutely out of control. And I’ve personally been seeing really good results. It’s clearing it up pretty damn quickly. I’m also using the ordinary buffet with copper peptides (I think they reformulated it completely because that’s all I can find and I’m not mad at it. But yeah, that toner is working wonders for me. I also use a Clarisonic twice daily so I don’t have to tone too often. But that’s pretty much what I’m using for my face....among other products.😅

I use the Cure brand “Natural Aqua Gel” as a chemical exfoliant and it works really well considering my skin is super sensitive. Idk all the ingredients bc it’s in Japanese but I’ve been using it for the past couple years and I’ve gotten no harmful effects or anything.
Edit: It should be noted that I use it in tandem with my doctor prescribed facewash that has some exfoliating acids in it as well. The main issue is that the wash can leave my face a little dry and flaky, so I use the Cure gel to make sure there’s no flakes of skin still sitting on the surface before I put on my moisturizer and sunscreen. This combo I’ve found works best in terms of not irritating my skin as well as keeping my acne managed... My acne isn’t completely gone, but that’s more of an issue with me and my bad habits in terms of touching my face and keeping clean than it is with the products I use,
Ohhh wow! Thanks for all the information. I'm gonna start exfoliating from now on.

me: WHAT HAVE I DONE TO MYSELF ALL THESE YEARS
Dear Mr. Hyrum:
Terrific video! Just to add an additional bit of info for everyone: the chemical exfoliates (BHA & AHA) need to be in the correct ph range, i.e. 3.2 to 4.0. Anything greater than 4.0 won’t exfoliate. Most good quality formulas are within that range; if you aren’t sure you can contact the company and ask.
I am very happy to find your channel and applaud your efforts to educate folks about the beauty industry. You are doing a terrific job.
I have a few subjects I would love to see you cover, if you are interested. If not, no problem. I’ll still watch your channel with hardly a bitterness ;-)
where does the neutrogena oil free acne wash fall?
no its me: the better cleansers fall between 4.5 and 7. I don’t know the ph of the product you mention, however, you can check their website and see if it has that info. In some cases the company may not tell you, stating that it is part of their “trade secret” of some kind. That is just nonsense, and if the company does state something along that line I would look for another cleanser. There’s a lot of good stuff out there.
Thank you so much Scott, I really appreciate you adding to the conversation and your kind words!!
Hyram Thanks so much! You are doing a great service; your research-based advice cuts through all the junk-y noise that is rife in the You-Tube beauty/self care world (not to mention twitter, instagram, etc.). AlumniArmy how do you follow up other products after using the peeling solution? are you supposed to leave your skin alone after using the solution or can you follow it up with niacinamide or moisturizer (just any products in general)
@@turtlemayhem9700 this is what I'm wondering as well
Turtle Mayhem Cassandra Bankson has a good video on this
Turtle Mayhem To follow up, definitely apply a moisturizer and sunscreen because it does sensitize your skin to the sun and can be extremely harmful without any sunscreen on. it is recommended not to use it with Vitamin C or retinol, and give it a day to apply niacinamide to not interfere with process of the peeling solution! Hope that helps a little.

There's still uv rays, which cause dark batches and/or redness
@@MoonOffMoon Welsh, Irish, & Scotish folks: *white af skin wanting to look darker to not seem like a vampire* hmm ok
Em UVB rays are what cause tanning/sunburns. UVA rays are the invisible ghost rays that you don’t see until you see skin damage.
@@adagioborntrager4456 thanks, I do know what UV rays are. I had to look up what dark spots are and unless freckles count no one in my family or who i know has dark spots other than those who arnt of Welsh ethnicity. On very sunny days where i would get a sunburn i will wear suncream but thats only for about a month
Em I think you’ve still missing the point. And I don’t say this it of hate or trying to argue but skin damage is real. Those invisible UVA rays mutate your skin at a cellular level. This can cause many different diseases including skin cancer. Your body can learn to regenerate after exposure to UVB rays (sunburns) but UVA can cause lifelong hurt. This is why wearing even just a thin layer of sunscreen on the face at all times is important because UVA can get you anytime even when it’s cloudy.
*Hyram:* “use sunscreen”
*Me who lives in England and hasn’t seen the sun in weeks:* yes, okay
Doesn't matter if you live there. You still have to use sunscreen. The sun can damage your skin all time of the year. Doesn't matter if it's rainy day or anything else.
exactly what i was thinking hahaha
Clementina Kozma how? If the sun isn’t even viable how will it touch your face
@@earlgrey4013 it still produces invisible UV light which affects your skin
R Lemon i mean the sun is still there right? Its just that the clouds are in front of it. its like putting a blanket on top of a dog and saying the dog isn’t there bc the blanket is on top of it
Thank you for all these informations...it helped me to stir away from irritating products for my sensitive skin! Your videos are a great guide in this very confusing skin care universe! You are great! And you also help me to practice my English! I’m French from Montreal! Merci beaucoup!
I have been using facial scrubs for a year now, and I use them once per day, AND I use the st Ives one talk about double trouble. Thank you for enlightening me!
Here are my notes; I'd thought I'd share if anyones interested :)
Exfoliaters-
Define- helps remove dead skins cells from out skin
Concerns - acne, dark spots, aging, and scarring
Other products will absorb better and work better
WEAR SUNSCREEN after exfoliating or do at night
Physical exfoliation - not preferred bc it may be too abrasive, damaging long-term
use physical once a week at most
VERY gently
only 15-30 seconds per area
Chemical exfoliation - preferred bc they’re gentle and steady but they may be too intensive
Gentlest to most intensive
Salicylic Acid (great for acne and pores)
Lactic Acid
Glycolic Acid - beware of percentages
Multiacid - combination of all
Also exfoliant mask (TO- AHA 30% Peeling Solution)
Beware of sensitivity, burning, rednes, irritation, thinness
Good if skin is looking good, healthy, glowly, skin problems are disappearing
Start Slow - Exfoliate starting once a week
Patch Test: use product on arm to see if there is a negative reaction for 24 hrs.
thank you so much!! I am so disappointed that you can’t copy comments on yt but I’m gonna rewrite it by myself haha❤️
Hey, you helped me a lot with that comment. I have big pores on my nose, I wanted to use the Salicylic Acid. Do I still have to put it on my whole face or just on my nose?
@@leah6555 i want to know this aswell!!
im pretty sure you only put the product where you have issues, so if you have a problem with your nose pores, just put the product on your nose 🤍
I’m so confused on how to exfoliate and what to use :( I don’t know what products I should use. all I do is cleanser moisturizer and sunscreen. my skin still breaks out so I need to try new products but there’s also timers and serums as well as exfoliating and idk what they are and I get so confused when those words pop up.
I’m honestly so shocked because I’ve been doing literally everything wrong and was proud of it
I am using (don't hate me) clinique 7-day scrub. I also have sensitive skin, and to be honest, I use it a few times a month and it works well. No burning sensation so far, its very gentle and it makes my skin happy during the wintertime.
It’s only been two days but my skin feels so much better since I started taking care of it more. Thank you for your videos! I realized I was being too rough with my skin
Physical exfoliation: 2:59
Chemical exfoliation: 5:35
Absolutely love your videos 😍
How about blackhead and redness? Open pores, uneven skin tone. Jesus bless my skin
ashma shrestha exfoliating products like the ones he mentions helps with blackheads by breaking up all the oils and pushing them out of your pours! 👍🏽☺️ check out some of his other videos that talk about redness! He mentions some great products for different skins types (:
I went to dermatologist who prescribed me tretinoin and my skin became soooo goooood
@@catieworley6915 do u know any that will help to removes sebaceous filaments? Because I literally try alot of products but none of them really removed the sebaceous filaments mostly after 3 days all of it will grow back :(
@@potatoes3212 sacylic acid
@@fizzazehra5502 my dermatologist prescribed tretinoin too! I have a question tho, how long did it take to see the visible results? I'm using it for 2 months now and I know that it takes longer. I haven't seen visibility results yet. What about u? :)
On a totally different note... Hyram cracks me up 😭🤣
I love how in this video you asked for support to be able to do UA-cam full time and now you have your own skin care brand 🥺😍
I love how he explained that he takes commission, so much truthful which is so hard to found in the beauty community 🙌
We need a video of when to do everything through the day and order
Im literally taking notes and ONLY taking hyrams recommendations
🦋I’m a both person- I love lactic acid especially for acne prone skin, but I’ve also used the daily microfoiant by Dermalogica as brown sugar or baking soda
UA-cam has given us the Fairy Godmother of skincare and I'm taking notes
I LOVE YOU!! You pushed me towards chemical exfoliating and I love it!
Oh yay!! That makes me so happy! 💕
Maia Lulu I love you too Hyram.
What do you use?
I had melasma on my nose and I started doing chemical exfoliation after Shreya jain's recommendation. The melasma on the nose is reduced to an extend that no one can notice I've melasma.👍

Chemical is my favorite way to exfoliate. Agree, love the Ordinary AHA/BHA once a week... but when I first used it, I only left it on my face for 6 min, then slowly worked my way to 10min. Cheer!
But did you like start with salicylic acid or lactic acid before multiple acids or did you start right away with multiple acids?
Okay does anybody else feel like physical scrubs make their skin SOOOO much smoother than chemical exfoliation. I know I shouldn't use them but I've never used a toner that makes my skin as soft as a scrub does, and I have dry sensitive skin so I know I shouldn't
im a new fan of hyram and damn I like his humor very much, he's very entertaining and making stuffs less complicated. i like you already. 😍
Fun story about me: When I was 8 I decided to exfoliate my face with a sea shell, I started with my nose and it started to hurt after like 5 seconds of doing it but I said to myself "pain is beauty so suck it up" ,after I while my nose started to bleed so i didn't do the rest of my face (I didn't wanna tell my mom so I tried the best I could to hide it). Then we when out to eat diner right after I did this to myself, It began to rain and the rain dropped on the wound and I screamed ( it didn't go very well). That whole night I had to deal w/ my mom yelling at me for what I did and honestly she should have won the record for the longest a mother can yell at her child, but I also had to deal w/ having a meatball colored nose at school and people asking what happened and stuff like that.THANK GOD I don't have a scar because of it
This....this is gold
I'm sorry I'm laughed. At least you're 8 when wound can heal perfectly without leaving scar and when you're young enough to be dumb 😭😭😭😭 it's better than some teenagers who is too passionate but lack of information when doing something 🤧
how- a sea shell- idk how that works😭
😂😂😂
Pain is beauty😂😂
