I think you can get down to a1 on a 25.5 inch scale you can get down to g1 on a 26.5 inch scale you can get down to e1 on a 27 inch scale you can get down to d1 on a 28 nch scale you can get down to a0 on a 30 Inch scale You will need pretty THICC Strings for the lowest tunings on these scale lengths
I tuned my guitar to drop G, 6 string 25.5 inch scale, 12-62 mammoth slinkys, all strings are intonated perfectly, even the low 62, for some reason the thin 12 gauge string isnt, always slightly flat at the 12th fret, if anything i thought thought the low 62 gauge would have intonation issues
i used to struggle with tuning issues and bridge cable strings, then I got a multiscale thats 25.5 on treble side up to 27 on bass side. I still have a 6 banger for drop C,, and reg strat in E, etc etc, but the 7 string multiscale for Drop G is the way to g o man
if you were just talking about filing nut and shit to accommodate bigger strings it at least in my case is not necessary, i was running something like 16-90 on my 24.75 without filing anything
Great video. I have 2 25.5 scales, one in Drop D (10-52) and the other Drop C (11-56). I have a baritone jazzmaster on the way which is gonna be in drop E with a custom string joy set, but I'm tempted to throw my drop D guitar in drop A# or A.

Any tips. i am going to use EQ in the fx loop and in front of the amp. Using great speakers also. Using DiMarzio super distortion in bridge. Play thrash not all the cut although has enough hopefully enough cut can be achieved without making it entirely cut, i like thick sound as long as its controlled and usable, i do not eliminate deep bass from any guitar ever on any recording. i have also contemplated backing the tuning up to A1 standard at 55 HZ. Doesn't seem like a whole lot of difference there. .Going to shorter scale there also with same size string= so my top high string stays wound also. Use 15" guitar speakers and a blend of 12" speakers and mics. The riffs and the sound have to behave a certain way to what i play and i like it as thick as i can get it while still cutting. IMO though there is youtube digital plugin recordings that have not anything to the sound and it is all nothing but cut only. A side note is , that sucks. Although i understand youtube's sound isn't what is coming through their own speakers and headphones and especially the nothing but treble speakers of laptops. When someone plucks anything lower than drop C on a loud acoustic it is completely silent until they hit the next string , no kidding. Well any advice , tips , or opinions about this from a tube and solid state amps mics and speakers perspective greatly appreciated, digital recording = ok, digital sound= not ok.
I find A works fine on a 25.5 with a 72. With G you might have some slight intonation issues with an 80 and going past the 12th fret. But depends on your bridge type and the saddles and how far back they can go but it should be doable.

I changed from 11-54 to 12-62 for drop b - a# on my Les Paul Custom and the lowest string doesn't sit 100 percent on the nut. Would that mess with intonation if it's not sitting 💯? All the other strings I've been able to intonate without problems just that low string.
Yeah you need to file the nut slot so the string sits in it better. You can just take the 62 strings and rub it back and forth slowly to widen the nut until the string fits snug in there. Or else you will have issues with the 1st fret maybe going a bit sharp when you fret it cos its too high

I got somewhat okaysh sound with some pedals but still. They’re too fuzzy. I wanna use the clean channel to be independent of the venue. And have distortion on my pedal. Surprisingly, I have some good clarity on mxr evh 5150 pedal. But still it’s more like an OD pedal than a distortion. And most distortions just start sounding like crap on such a setup. More like a fuzz pedal. Even tho I cut lows with EQ and tube screamer. I want to have more clarity, like what neural dsp VSTs produce

@@GaryHiebner My previous comment disappeared, probably because I linked to some websites where those 8 strings are still available. (Fair-enough, I shouldn't advertise.) I put a .045 to .105 gauge bass set on it, plus a .032 and .024 for the first 2 strings, set it up again, and it is tolerable now. There must have been something with the strings themselves, and my whole setup might have been off as well. It doesn't sound like a guitar anymore, but I can use it as a sort of micro-scale bass VI. But I really did run into a bunch of problems with this.
Slinky baritone 13-72 is perfect for drop A on a standard 25.5"
It stays perfectly in tune and doesn't bend any notes when you downstroke

I can get to drop F# on my 25.5 ltd phoenix just fine.

True, going low is a real commitment. Filing the nut, totally displacing the saddles and tension limit. But so calls metal

You can do C#Std and Drop B on a standard 25.5 scale guitar. Try a 11-52 string set. And check the intonation after the setup.

It shouldn't take a lot of filing. Just take it slow and check regularly so you don't file too far

Definitely, single coils or P90s are a great choice for low tunings and Hi-Gain. I wanna mod all my guitars with P90s!
