50 of the BEST Nu-Metal riffs. These aren't in any ranking order. Just 50 of the best Nu-Metal riffs in my opinion. Please feel free to add your favourite riffs that I missed in the comments :) This started out as UA-cam Short video series, where I played through my favourite 50 Nu Metal Riff, and thought it would be cool having it all in a long-form video in one place. 🔵 garyhiebner.com ⚫ Patr...

Eloquently and masterfully executed, liked and subscribed
Thank you :)

Your tone sounds better than linkin parks, i don't know why but they compressed the he'll out of it in mixing and they're album distorts and clips too much.
Thanks. Tried my best to replicate the Hybrid Theory/Meteora tone
👌
A fun little thing i think i found ks that playing loathe through the Fortin Nameless X suite by Neural DSP is that it sounds really nice. Turn up the presence to around 8, lows about 8-9, mids and highs at 6 and 7 kinda range, and boost everything below 250hz with the eq by a tonne, scoop back some mids, etc, usual eq nonsense, cut off must everything above 15kHz, usual steps. Noise gate to taste, bit of the grind pedal, and we’re laughing ❌ Sceaming ✅. Dial back the gain, and you’e got a tone for screaming
The Nameless is an awesome amp sim! I know they used the Plini and Nolly Neural Amp Sims through some custom IRs. Found this out later after doing this video.
@ they probably used the plini lead then. Looser britishy shoegaze tones plus it’s made for extended range stuff
I’ve been experimenting with d1 tuning and wow . I am suorised how I prefer the higher tunings . I love a-f. I’m writing it korn esque stuff , wanted to modernize it , F it still holds true a bit, lower than that it’s a bit rough , the bass guitar is dead unless I put it a octave higher .
Its an acquired taste. But yeah anything lower then F1 and the bass in unison with the low guitars works
@ yes , hard to keep the korn bass guitar tone alive that low imo but seems to thrive when mixing in bass synths / synth layers ! Awesome content
I have it and it is great. Nice job on your video.

Also my first pedal back in the 90's before I got into the MT-2 👍🏻👍🏻
I only really discovered the full potential of the MT-2 much later, when realized it worked amazingly as a preamp.
@GaryHiebner cuz of Ola's infamous video, right? 😂 I remember back in the 90's some modern day hardcore bands were playing the MT-2 in front of a 100 watt amp but dialing it in very precise and well EQ'd and it sounded really big and tight metallic hardcore tone for that style.. I believe back then people only used the FX loop for clean effects, loopers and such. No one wouldn't dream of putting this bad boy through the FX loop as it was considered a regular distortion pedal like everything else. The hell we knew back then 😄
Exactly, Ola is to blame!
No one was putting preamps into FX Loops then!
Well, you didnt actually give an opinion.

Very good! Or as we say here in Brazil "bom demais"
a great help sir! Gotta use that with my gt-100. i know you are not using IRs, but can you recommend IRs for low-tuned guitars?
Coal Chamber, i have no idea how that band had fans.
Haha! Well they did sell over 500 000 copies on their 1st album. So they got some fans.
do you feel any latency when using these plugins?
If you set your buffer size low enough you dont notice it. I have my buffer size at 128 samples.
Oh man yes!!! Btw what about some Nothingface????
how do you avoid latency? i want to do this but i have a slight 3ms or so delay and i dont think i can get away with it in a live setting
There will always be a degree of latency. This will all depend on the computing power you have and how low you can go with your buffer size on your system. On my system I play with a buffer size of 128 samples and find that that works perfectly well. But I have gotten so used to playing with amp sims and that very small amount of latency.
@ It’s definitely not as noticeable through a cab as it is in headphones, but it’s still a bit of a struggle to use live. I found the sim itself to be a huge factor too, some lower end ones add up to 20ms which is completely unusable to me. Maybe it’s stubborn of me to not have done it already, but I may just cave in and invest in a modeler.
🤘🏾🔥🤘🏾
That riff at 1:48 gives me 2008 For the Fallen Dreams vibes. Very cool riff! Also great advice man. I play in Drop A# too and been having a difficult time Eq’ing
Awesome I must check them out. Havent heard them before. Glad the video helped with regards to low tunings.
What amp or sim with ir did u use? Sound amazing
I'm using the Otto Audio II II II II. An amazing amp sim for low tunings and Hi-Gain. You can check my video review of it here: ua-cam.com/video/tgWxLvsumfI/v-deo.html
@GaryHiebner thank u so much
When you sound more like Linkin park than Linkin park do!
Haha! Well least not like the Modern Linkin Park.
OMG! so great
Thanks!
How about the tone for the heavier loathe songs
Amazing demo, please do how to sound like spiritbox ✌🏻
That is definitely on the list as well. Stay tuned...
Also in some songs they tune b0 😳 amazing demo
Amazing review mate !! Thanks a lot 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Thank you!
anyone watching this in the future, Solar makes a 35" scale 4-string bass (they call it a "baritone bass" lol) for about $750. Schecter also makes a few, look for "EX" on the model. The Stiletto Stealth 5 Pro EX is $1400 though.
Those Solar basses look awesome!
Sounds like Dismember distortion just with a lower tone.
150 dollars tho👎
I have a Squire Classic Vibe 3 Tone Bass VI. I love it but having trouble with low tunings like Double Drop C# I have the Fender .024-.100 strings on it as well and it just sounds super muddy
Are you going for something hi gain? What you uaing dor the tone?
@@GaryHiebner Yes high gain The other guitar in my band is drop c# but the octave lower double drop C# is just too muddy Would an alternative tuning work better? Ive got a Boss Katana MKII 50 Ex amp
Are you using a boost somewhere in your signal chain? That helps tighten up the sound. And alsp dial back on the gain. The lower you tune, the less gain you actually need.
@@GaryHiebner I'll have to get into the Katana interface check those settings Thank you
Jonathan Davis's annoying "singing" point on.
Haha!
You sound almost exactly like Jonathan on their older albums when he was younger and had a fresher voice.
Thanks so much. Appreciate it. Thats what I was going for. His voice style on the first 3 albums.
How come there is no QTron?
There is a QTron in the Effects section.
A 4 string bass? KoRn/Fieldy has played 5 string bass guitars only since 1993...
Yeah its a 4 string bass. But its tuned lower than a 5 string regular bass. It has a 35-37 inch conversion on it and is tuned down to F#0
How is nobody talking about your Squire 7 string!!!
I want one so bad!
I also had a 6 string Floyd Rose Stagemaster. They great guitars. Great Squier Chinese builds. Wish they didnt discontinue them
The scat part got me 😂. Overall sounds pretty good though and pretty spot on. The vocals sound like Costco Mike Patton a bit but honestly great job getting the guitar tones down. I’ve seen some other videos where they completely miss the mark
Haha! I had to try the scatting.
@ Cheers mate keep it up! You are quite the talent
There are life outside Toontrack
How have I been sleeping on this video? I have been wanting to do a system tone recreation for a while and have some diagrams Sylvia Massy drew out for the guitar tones on the first album when she helped produce it with Rick Rubin. I am able to dual track it too, since I'm using TH-U to blend the Marshall and Dual Rectifier
Gosh I forgot Sylvia was involved with that album as well.
And thus chevelle was born
TH-U is still one of the most accurate sounding suites I've ever heard and their updates make it better and better all the time. Also, when I was like 15 back in 2000, I wanted a Squier Stagemaster so bad. I ended up getting a Jackson 7 string a year or so later when i went, hoping they still had the Stagemaster, but it was still an awesome guitar.
Yeah man. TH-U is very underrated. Great Amp Sim suite. Yeah I was lucky to pass a used guitar store about 5 years ago and picked the Stagemaster 7 up for a good price.
@@GaryHiebner I miss having a 7 string. I had to sell the majority of my gear a while back, because I ended up moving out of state, but I kept my custom Deviant guitar and my Jackson Mick Thompson Soloist. I miss my Marshall DSL 20 and my 2x12
Very good video, Nailed it for the guitar sounds. I think the bass sound is not quite there though. Strings maybe.
Yeah new strings would of definitely made the tone a bit more snappy.
Slinky baritone 13-72 is perfect for drop A on a standard 25.5" It stays perfectly in tune and doesn't bend any notes when you downstroke
Nice. I've only used the Slinky Baritones on a baritone scale guitar. Definitely gonna try them on a 25.5 sometime.
This guy is a cheat code 😂. Excellent work as always mate
Thank you
Master of masters!!.
Thank you!
Really nice video, you got so close to Korn sound on so many levels, I also love that you started adding vocals to these kind of videos, you're definitely not bad even though you say it's your weak point, you got pretty close on nasal vocals, also skatting part you wrote was nice and in the context of a mix all your vocals sounded right and definitely not out of place, so it complimented the video nicely. Love the quality of your videos, keep doing them
Thanks so much. Its been fun adding vocals to these Sound Like videos. Now what tò tackle next?
@@GaryHiebner Coal Chamber? Sevendust?
Another banger G man. Great breakdown.
Thank you! Appreciate it :)
