@@Thetechchap the white interior brings in more ambient light, but it'll show up more marks over time (one can only imagine that is, and if my creme-coloured BMW is anything to go by, haha). Think that combination is perfect - the red is expensive as a paint but it does glisten wonderfully under the sun. Wouldn't opt for Alcantara but of course, that's subjective!

Never had any issue with the slight glance at the speedo on screen rather than in front. To be fair, a lot of the criticisms many people have of the simplistic design are actually the things I really love about the car.
I also have the 2021 LR, white with black. It's possible the state of charge affects the 0-60 time. I still want the acceleration boost even though it's blisteringly fast as it is!!
@@danpaul4975 haha brilliant. Honestly, not sure you need it - it's plenty fast as it is, as I'm sure you are aware. Guess it depends if you have a spare £1.5k to use up. Indeed, the state of charge could affect it, so could the outside temperature, but the tests were done at around 80% charge, so it would be a little odd to see a tail off, when we've not seen that type of behaviour in other EVs.

Oh do share your results when you get them. How will you be measuring the data? Harry's Lap timer is pretty good, although, if you have a separate device like the Vbox Sport it's pinpoint accurate.
Hi, the manual door release shouldn’t be used. It will eventually wear out the seals. Use the button which lowers the window slightly before the door opens.
I traded in a Nissan Leaf 40 kw for a Tesla model 3 Long Range last week. I have been completely blown away by the Model 3. I made the trade because I’m fed up of being ripped off by public chargers. On the second day of ownership I was at a motorway services at a row of Tesla chargers opposite a row of Applegreen chargers. The Applegreen were charging 69p per Kw at a maximum of 50Kw. The Tesla supercharger charged me 28p for 150Kw. No comparison. If I change my Model 3 in the future it will be for another Tesla every time.
Looking at the speed on my Model 3 is easy, just a quick sideways glance. When I get into an ordinary car, I have to locate the speed through the steering wheel and the instrument panel which takes a fraction longer IMO.
It's the same for me, I found, that the speed is easier and faster to check in the Model 3. For me it's in my peripheral vision and I barely have to turn my head and not look down at all. In ICE vehicles you have to look down and through the steering wheel which is way more distracting in my experience. Most people I think just have problems, because it's a new configuration for something that's been the same for more than a century. Most people just hate changing habits. Personally it took me about 15min to adjust.
@@TotallyEV I am very against the cheap terrible looking plastic tonge HUDs, but I am coming aroud to the Augmented Reality HUDs that project against the windscreen. I am not a fan of most decisions VW made for ID3 and ID4, but the Augmented Reality HUD is executed well.
@@garenson the AR ones are seriously great; we wish all vehicles had them, at the very least as an option. Maybe Tesla will come around to offering it to its customers one day!
Great video! I’ve put 4,351 miles on my 2021 3LR AWD in 30 days. It is completely brilliant and the best value in the world today considering performance, tech, and not paying for gas. The Acceleration Boost in-app upgrade is a must :)

Glad you liked the video! As for those speed humps, no problems whatsoever - standard clearance. Maybe the Performance will be a little closer, but should still be fine :)
I ordered a 3, but after doing further investigations I found that there are things I couldn't live without, and at enormous costs, I'd thought these would have been included with the car. Heads up display. Blind spot monitoring. Front facing camera for parking. Dont get me wrong, I ordered the performance model, and it didn't fail to deliver. But for 20k less, I bought a car with all the bells and whistles with similar performance to the long range. What I didn't think about also was the home charger at £595.00, installed there is a grant of 350 available. £500 to kit the car out with mats, screen protector, boot liners etc. One day, I will own one, but not yet, not yet.......... Everyone enjoy yours.
There's a degree of blind-spot monitoring, but it's not in the traditional sense, but agreed on the other points; all valid! Which vehicle did you end up purchasing?
Most EV channels are heavily Tesla Biased. I’m very glad to see this channel that is just genuine factual review. I’m not a big fan of Tesla but this is a nice car.
@@TotallyEV I just feel like it’s a bit overrated, more hyped up than it needs to be. Tesla is good but not exceptional in my eyes. I also just think the brand design language is fairly emotionless , I would love more exciting designs to Match the stellar performance of these cars. Overall I think I’m still catching up to the EV hype train. I’m a bit more interested in hybrid technology such as Mercedes E-performance that they are rolling out.
There may be a point in having Low Brake Power when you let off the gas, for example when you want to charge the battery to the maximum on long downhills. because you don't want the car to stop on the downhill because a car standing still on the downhill does not charge the battery. unless the cruise control function can solve it on downhills?
Re your point about the boot/trunk height. Move it to the height you want, and hold the close down button until it beeps. That stores the height to memory for the next time you open the boot 👍🏼

@@TotallyEV I used to drive a Toyota CH-R that had good mpg but it didn't make sense to have both petrol and electric motors now that electric range and performance has increased to such a usable level. It did feel like a big change to go full EV but I wouldn't want to go back to an ICE car now. The best bit (as if the car wasn't great) is that I used to spend £1,500/y on petrol and now I only spend £280/y
The S is even more sporty due to its power setup (needs to be better equipped), while it will however provide more range. Might be worth a test drive to see what you make of it vs your current Mercedes.
Please don't use the manual door release when you don't have to. It messes with the window seal, as it doesn't allow the window to pop down. The infotainment is supposed to give you a warning when you use it that it is emergency only, and may mess with the door seals if used over time.
I asked my dealer, and he suggested every other year or 15000 km, whichever comes first. Suggested price in Sweden is around 3-4000 SEK, which should be around 3-400 EUR.
The headrests aren’t adjustable… and unless your posture is naturally hunched over, it’s extremely uncomfortable. Went for a drive just to check before ordering a Long Range - glad I did. I’m now back looking for something else 🙄
I agree!! I am in the process of saving some money for a small down payment, yearly insurance to be able to order one in 10 months time!! Quite looking forward to it (model 3 long range with FSD (be more future proof and get it while it only costs 6800 GBP... it will go up!!))
quick note - there is no on/off for regen - its always on. There used to be a regen standard/low option but they removed it in recent software. I find it perfect for my taste but agree it’d be nice to have choice.
@@TotallyEV no mine was a 2021 and never had it, but the million youtube videos I watched before buying showed it and I was going to set for my wife’s profile in case she didn’t like one-pedal - but the option wasn’t there at all. She’s fine with one pedal though so thats a relief.

Indeed, you won't be able to use those services; Tesla does have a few built-in, like Spotify though. As for the batteries - hard to say, really depends on usage (like an ICE car), but those who have owned EVs for a decade have had under 10% degradation and haven't had to replace them either - which is a positive sign! Wouldn't say the voice control is excellent. It's actually something we forgot to mention in the review - if you try saying "turn the seat heater down" it'll ramp it up to max and leave it there.
Great review. My issue is the road noise, the hard ride , jarring suspension and the build and paint are well reported downers on all Tesla cars. . £55k for a LRY , and no PDI check from Tesla. This isn’t acceptable. I’m not paying premium price for a Tesla
Thanks, glad you liked the review! As for the road noise and suspension - odd, it's one of the quietest cabins we've tested to date, and its suspension system (in the Model 3) was a non-issue.
FYI... If you put the rain wipers in Auto mode, Teslas will use the forward camera and a machine learning artificial intelligence model to determine when to automatically turn on the wipers and adjust how fast they should they should wipe. Basically, AUTO = AI Wipers. Living in a place where it rains about one month out of the year, I don't use the feature often but it has worked well for me when it was. YMMV.
Well from our experience, it didn't work as well as it should have done; was rather frustrating! There are some others who have reported similar behaviour too.
Tesla 3 performance Is the only one in the 3 series that has track mode. from what I understand, it should be continuous four-wheel drive then. And a fan ensure that the car does not overheat. when you e.g. must drive hard on a track. Well there are people who pay to drive on such tracks
You can send directions (pinned location), but real-time data won't be fed, which is where it fell short; that'll work through the infotainment system.
Model 3 doesn't actually use Google maps for nav, it uses MapBox and the routing is by Valhalla. The car shows you a graphical feed from Google but the car doesn't use this, it's just a picture. I too reverted to using my phone for nav
I'd have a couple of comments on the subjects covered. I don't know how aggressive the regen braking is compared to my current gen 4 Prius, but I'd recommend against the "one pedal driving" approach. If you get accustomed to not placing your foot on or near the brake pedal (basically a conditioned response after years of driving), you will lose reaction time when having to actually "think" about hitting the brake. The absence of a "Blind Spot Monitor" may or may not be a concern. My Prius does have a BSM (radar in the rear quarter panels), and does have the little yellow lights in the side view mirrors, but in normal daytime driving they are basically useless because they are not in your usual field of vision while driving, and its the unexpected vehicle in your "blind spot" that's the problem,. Toyota in its "wisdom..." didn't see fit to a ad a simple optional "chime" to warn you. Something I would dearly miss on a Model 3 if I'm fortunate enough to get, is the "Rear Cross-Traffic" detection that the rear radar on the Prius provides. Since Elon seems firmly committed to the "All Vision" approach, it seems it would require two more side looking cameras in the rear to implement.

In terms of the one pedal driving, you'll still have your foot by the brake pedal, so your reactions shouldn't be any slower - if anything the car will come to a quicker stop in an emergency: regen + brake. As for the blind spot light, done vehicles have it integrated very well. Guess the Prius isn't that good. But take the Seat Leon e-Hybrid which we have on review at the moment (review coming shortly), it has an LED strip to the side of the cabin that indicates when someone or something is beside you. It's really helpful!
oh, and it will detect obstacles in all directions... Teslas have avoided trees falling on the road... Also important to note that all other brands of accident avoidance systems only work rarely in tests while Teslas system works in almost 100% of tests...

I am actively looking at buying an EV in the next 6 months and have been looking at the Kia Niro and the Tesla mod 3/y. I have discounted the offerings from BMW Merc Audi as being overly expensive at not that fit for purpose. My issue with Tesla is that so much reminds me of Apple when I look at Telsla like can only be repaired by Tesla and possibly some built in obsolescence also, but the model Y does tick all the boxes for me.
You can add 3rd party instrument clusters, which also add Apple Carplay and Android Auto. They fit in seamlessly. They also add normal Google Maps and Waze. It goes against the Tesla vision though. I'll keep mine "vanilla" when it arrives next month. Phillip.
Indeed, but some of these solutions need some fitting, where the average consumer might not be comfortable in doing so. Given these solutions exist, further emphasises the point: why doesn't Tesla offer it? Let us know how you get on with your Tesla when you get it delivered!
@@TotallyEV Tesla doesn't offer it as it goes against their whole vision for that car. When you buy a Model 3, you know the minimalist interior you will get. They were bold and knew that people would get on board once they had tried it out. They were stubborn and stuck with that and ended up with the best selling EV in the world. Originally I was going to buy a 2nd hand Model S. You can get a 2016 refresh model for around the same price as a Model 3. One reason was the lack of the dash, as well as the more luxury feel of the S. After a single test drive I was converted. Glancing at the screen for the speed, which is something you don't do THAT often, became routine very quickly. With Autopilot I doubt I will need to at all. I was watching UA-cam Model 3 accessory videos yesterday and spent time today shopping online: rubber floor mats, console tray, etc. When I get that delivery date... I'll be ready!! Phillip.
Great review! I'd love a Model 3, but the wiper speed and speedo reading only in the touchscreen are a step too far for me. Now I read that Musk is getting rid of the indicator stalks! I just wish he would dial it back a tad - this car would have much broader appeal with a few simple and inexpensive changes. Such a shame, as otherwise I would love one..
As we don't live ina very hot country (UK), it's hard for us to comment. But upon research about it, most in California don't seem to have a problem with it - you can always buy an optional sunshade too; this is mentioned in our written review of the M3 (check it out in the description of the video!)

I was already aware of everything here...I consider the minimalist design with just the touch screen and lack of gauges and such to be a plus, so I'm good with all that. I ordered a SR+ at the end of March, still waiting for delivery. They're estimating 2-4 weeks from now, I don't have my VIN yet. Software updates are pretty frequent and they do take user suggestions into account, so things like wipers can be changed in the future. I plan on just keeping my wipers on auto.
@@IanWitts No it does not. On highway only tests, it gets close to model 3 but in mixed driving it is worse... Edmunds saying various cars get higher range than the EPA rating is because EPA uses city and highway driving mixed and Edmunds does a set speed highway test only... So all the cars that are poor in city driving end up with longer range than EPA estimate if you only test highway driving...
Some can, but a few glitches will leave you wondering if voice commands are really effective. Equally, voice commands will always be slower than physical input, no matter how advanced the vehicle is/can be.
@@Garrison169 but pressing a button on your stalk is far simpler than waiting and initiating a voice command. There surely isn't any argument there? As for the voice command not being accurate, we're not the only ones, you can find others on forums/UA-cam also experiencing inaccuracies with the voice control: ie. "turn seat heater down by one", will result in the seat heater going UP to full blast.
Honestly, it’s dumb to put everything on a screen. I prefer speed, fuel, coolant, etc in a traditional cluster. it looks like an iPad on wheels. I liked the older Tesla where there’s traditional stuff but they removed it and focused too much on a tablet in middle of the dashboard. I hope they will go back to traditional stuff like the other electric vehicles.
Very good review, but you describe lots of features without actually demonstrating it. For example, Smart Summon. You said it doesn't work but really didn't show us anything.
Glad you liked the review; as for the Summon feature, it was shown at 14:21 - this is all that's possible in the UK/EU. Smart Summon simply won't work, so showcasing a button press on an app, while the vehicle does nothing is...rather pointless.
I wish there was an option for zero sunlight blocking in the glass roof. Feels kind of wasted to have a view that blocks most of the light, especially if you want to stop somewhere to look at auroras or whatever. I'm not exactly concerned about being "cooked" in my car when I live north of the arctic circle. Can you not put a 3'rd party HUD in it?
Ha, well I think people in California might disagree with you there! As for the HUD, you could potentially add an aftermarket one, but it would involve wiring and potentially voiding your warranty.

You can't on the Tesla, as the rear middle seat can't be converted (unless you do it yourself). The Polestar 2 however might be the one for you in that respect (and same class)
This is a long video - too long perhaps. But certainly one notable omission is the use of Tesla Voice to control the functions accessed via the central screen. Instead of physically pressing button and going through menus, you can just ask the car to do something, such as "turn on/off the windscreen pipers". So you don't take your attention from the road ahead. Voice actuation works really well in Tesla Model 3 and makes the car feel even more like a game changer.
You're right we omitted the feature, and truthfully should have commented on how poor it is in comparison to the likes of Google Assistant, which is found in the Polestar 2. Thankfully, we did include this comment in our written review. Pressing buttons, or flicking a wiper switch is so much faster than actuating and hoping for the Tesla voice commend to work (let alone correctly)!
My 2021 Tesla 3 has to have battery replaced after having driven it for only 1000 miles! Bit of a shocker! Tesla will replace as its under warranty, they have had the car for almost 2 months now as the battery has to be shipped in. I was told that this is rare but this is still very surprising for a brand new car.
So, good quality content But, re the speed display. The difference between glancing at a display in between the spokes of the steering vs glancing to the left of the steering wheel is inconsequential, literally re train you brian form legacy ways of working and learn how to move on

I mean, not combined. a combined range figure for all those cars you mentioned is huge. Idk. English is not my native language. But it sounded weird to me. 29:57 i think this is a UK only issue because you guys have some of the strangest road markings i have ever seen.

another user with a dead M3. At third week of driving, an alert showed up saying "OK TO DRIVE. PLEASE SCHEDULE SERVICE VISIT. Vehicle speed and power may be limited" -- Car slowed to 65 mph while traveling 75 mph in the fast lane; requiring immediate lane change to avoid becoming a hazard. Top speed was then limited to 65 mph by the associated fault response programming. At dealer was informed of diagnosis that oil pump issue had been sent from car to Tesla Main data receiving HQ. Subsequent firmware update --- reportedly necessary when significant components of the car are replaced -- failed - repeatedly. Car is now inoperable and awaiting examination by Tesla engineering; as I understand the issue is beyond the scope of the dealer technician to resolve. Car initially (my very first entrance to car) had an issue where the touchscreen would turn grey on the right 2/3rds, becoming unresponsive to any touches, auto reboot after approx. 1 min, then work for some time only to fail again and again later.
The question raised was whether M3 is still the best... You are not comparing it to any other car! Have a look at Autogefuhl where Thomas is comparing M3 to Polestar. Tight race and hard to decide which one is best. Mach e is another car that would be close to the M3. Don't think it is serious just to talk about M3 (which I am sure is a great car) and then conclude.
We know it's a detailed and long review, but if you watched it all, you'd see that we made multiple references to its competitors! Of course, this isn't a comparative review (such as a head-to-head), but you're entitled to your opinion.
Nice thorough run through. Having come from 5 years of commuting in an MX5, I've been impressed with the driving experience. You can feel the extra weight of the M3 but it still feels relatively agile and the quick steering rack is great. There's not a lot of feedback from the steering but that's true of a lot of modern set ups. I miss the exhaust note and gear changing a bit, but you just need to reboot your mindset. Re. the lack of regent settings, it used to be an optionbut was dropped. Good unbiased review🙂
After driving a manual for a long time, I thought I would miss gear changes when I got an '09 Audi A3 Cabriolet, but it turns out when you drive a car back a forth from work 5 days a week you really start to appreciate having a car that's just easy to drive. I fully intend to buy a Model 3 just as soon as I can scrape together enough cash (because I refuse to get another car loan).
Have they got rid of interior and exterior quality issues? You see allot of these cars in the most affluent areas of London and around the country. I saw one with a number plate like W 48 only in London. 🤣

Never had any issue with the slight glance at the speedo on screen rather than in front. To be fair, a lot of the criticisms many people have of the simplistic design are actually the things I really love about the car.

Which variant of the M3 do you have?
I also have the 2021 LR, white with black. It's possible the state of charge affects the 0-60 time. I still want the acceleration boost even though it's blisteringly fast as it is!!
@@danpaul4975 haha brilliant. Honestly, not sure you need it - it's plenty fast as it is, as I'm sure you are aware. Guess it depends if you have a spare £1.5k to use up.
Indeed, the state of charge could affect it, so could the outside temperature, but the tests were done at around 80% charge, so it would be a little odd to see a tail off, when we've not seen that type of behaviour in other EVs.

Oh do share your results when you get them. How will you be measuring the data? Harry's Lap timer is pretty good, although, if you have a separate device like the Vbox Sport it's pinpoint accurate.

Hi, the manual door release shouldn’t be used. It will eventually wear out the seals. Use the button which lowers the window slightly before the door opens.

I traded in a Nissan Leaf 40 kw for a Tesla model 3 Long Range last week. I have been completely blown away by the Model 3. I made the trade because I’m fed up of being ripped off by public chargers. On the second day of ownership I was at a motorway services at a row of Tesla chargers opposite a row of Applegreen chargers. The Applegreen were charging 69p per Kw at a maximum of 50Kw. The Tesla supercharger charged me 28p for 150Kw. No comparison. If I change my Model 3 in the future it will be for another Tesla every time.

Looking at the speed on my Model 3 is easy, just a quick sideways glance. When I get into an ordinary car, I have to locate the speed through the steering wheel and the instrument panel which takes a fraction longer IMO.

It's the same for me, I found, that the speed is easier and faster to check in the Model 3. For me it's in my peripheral vision and I barely have to turn my head and not look down at all. In ICE vehicles you have to look down and through the steering wheel which is way more distracting in my experience.
Most people I think just have problems, because it's a new configuration for something that's been the same for more than a century. Most people just hate changing habits. Personally it took me about 15min to adjust.
What about a HUD though? Think that'd be a good option to include?
@@TotallyEV I am very against the cheap terrible looking plastic tonge HUDs, but I am coming aroud to the Augmented Reality HUDs that project against the windscreen.
I am not a fan of most decisions VW made for ID3 and ID4, but the Augmented Reality HUD is executed well.
@@garenson the AR ones are seriously great; we wish all vehicles had them, at the very least as an option.
Maybe Tesla will come around to offering it to its customers one day!

As for those speed humps, no problems whatsoever - standard clearance. Maybe the Performance will be a little closer, but should still be fine :)

I ordered a 3, but after doing further investigations I found that there are things I couldn't live without, and at enormous costs, I'd thought these would have been included with the car.
Heads up display.
Blind spot monitoring.
Front facing camera for parking.
Dont get me wrong, I ordered the performance model, and it didn't fail to deliver. But for 20k less, I bought a car with all the bells and whistles with similar performance to the long range.
What I didn't think about also was the home charger at £595.00, installed there is a grant of 350 available. £500 to kit the car out with mats, screen protector, boot liners etc.
One day, I will own one, but not yet, not yet..........

There may be a point in having Low Brake Power when you let off the gas, for example when you want to charge the battery to the maximum on long downhills. because you don't want the car to stop on the downhill because a car standing still on the downhill does not charge the battery. unless the cruise control function can solve it on downhills?

Re your point about the boot/trunk height. Move it to the height you want, and hold the close down button until it beeps. That stores the height to memory for the next time you open the boot 👍🏼

@@TotallyEV I used to drive a Toyota CH-R that had good mpg but it didn't make sense to have both petrol and electric motors now that electric range and performance has increased to such a usable level. It did feel like a big change to go full EV but I wouldn't want to go back to an ICE car now. The best bit (as if the car wasn't great) is that I used to spend £1,500/y on petrol and now I only spend £280/y

The S is even more sporty due to its power setup (needs to be better equipped), while it will however provide more range. Might be worth a test drive to see what you make of it vs your current Mercedes.

It's stiffer than the average Mercedes, won't be as cushiony soft Vs the ICE Mercs, although, in comparison to the EQA, it's a tad softer
Please don't use the manual door release when you don't have to. It messes with the window seal, as it doesn't allow the window to pop down. The infotainment is supposed to give you a warning when you use it that it is emergency only, and may mess with the door seals if used over time.

Suggest you ask Tesla, as it might depend on where you live, and use the vehicle.
I asked my dealer, and he suggested every other year or 15000 km, whichever comes first. Suggested price in Sweden is around 3-4000 SEK, which should be around 3-400 EUR.
In the US, the front storage is called the Frunk. Is it called a Froot over there?
Regarding the wipers, can you use voice control? That would be fairly quick and simple as opposed to the stalk button and then screen tinkering
You can indeed, although, still not as intuitive as the stalks, and sometimes can be a little off (ie when adjusting the speed via your voice input)

The headrests aren’t adjustable… and unless your posture is naturally hunched over, it’s extremely uncomfortable. Went for a drive just to check before ordering a Long Range - glad I did. I’m now back looking for something else 🙄

quick note - there is no on/off for regen - its always on. There used to be a regen standard/low option but they removed it in recent software. I find it perfect for my taste but agree it’d be nice to have choice.

Indeed, you won't be able to use those services; Tesla does have a few built-in, like Spotify though.
As for the batteries - hard to say, really depends on usage (like an ICE car), but those who have owned EVs for a decade have had under 10% degradation and haven't had to replace them either - which is a positive sign!

As for the wiper control, I suggest using the excellent voice control. Works great.
Wouldn't say the voice control is excellent. It's actually something we forgot to mention in the review - if you try saying "turn the seat heater down" it'll ramp it up to max and leave it there.
Just press end of stalk, it brings up the wiper controls. Simples!!

Great review. My issue is the road noise, the hard ride , jarring suspension and the build and paint are well reported downers on all Tesla cars. . £55k for a LRY , and no PDI check from Tesla. This isn’t acceptable. I’m not paying premium price for a Tesla

As for the road noise and suspension - odd, it's one of the quietest cabins we've tested to date, and its suspension system (in the Model 3) was a non-issue.
FYI... If you put the rain wipers in Auto mode, Teslas will use the forward camera and a machine learning artificial intelligence model to determine when to automatically turn on the wipers and adjust how fast they should they should wipe. Basically, AUTO = AI Wipers.
Living in a place where it rains about one month out of the year, I don't use the feature often but it has worked well for me when it was. YMMV.
Well from our experience, it didn't work as well as it should have done; was rather frustrating!
There are some others who have reported similar behaviour too.

Tesla 3 performance Is the only one in the 3 series that has track mode. from what I understand, it should be continuous four-wheel drive then. And a fan ensure that the car does not overheat. when you e.g. must drive hard on a track. Well there are people who pay to drive on such tracks

You said you resorted to using your phone for Google maps. Did you know you can send those directions to the car by sharing it to the Tesla app?
You can send directions (pinned location), but real-time data won't be fed, which is where it fell short; that'll work through the infotainment system.

Model 3 doesn't actually use Google maps for nav, it uses MapBox and the routing is by Valhalla. The car shows you a graphical feed from Google but the car doesn't use this, it's just a picture. I too reverted to using my phone for nav

I'd have a couple of comments on the subjects covered. I don't know how aggressive the regen braking is compared to my current gen 4 Prius, but I'd recommend against the "one pedal driving" approach. If you get accustomed to not placing your foot on or near the brake pedal (basically a conditioned response after years of driving), you will lose reaction time when having to actually "think" about hitting the brake. The absence of a "Blind Spot Monitor" may or may not be a concern. My Prius does have a BSM (radar in the rear quarter panels), and does have the little yellow lights in the side view mirrors, but in normal daytime driving they are basically useless because they are not in your usual field of vision while driving, and its the unexpected vehicle in your "blind spot" that's the problem,. Toyota in its "wisdom..." didn't see fit to a ad a simple optional "chime" to warn you. Something I would dearly miss on a Model 3 if I'm fortunate enough to get, is the "Rear Cross-Traffic" detection that the rear radar on the Prius provides. Since Elon seems firmly committed to the "All Vision" approach, it seems it would require two more side looking cameras in the rear to implement.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! In terms of the one pedal driving, you'll still have your foot by the brake pedal, so your reactions shouldn't be any slower - if anything the car will come to a quicker stop in an emergency: regen + brake.
As for the blind spot light, done vehicles have it integrated very well. Guess the Prius isn't that good. But take the Seat Leon e-Hybrid which we have on review at the moment (review coming shortly), it has an LED strip to the side of the cabin that indicates when someone or something is beside you. It's really helpful!
It does have a blind spot warning system...
oh, and it will detect obstacles in all directions... Teslas have avoided trees falling on the road... Also important to note that all other brands of accident avoidance systems only work rarely in tests while Teslas system works in almost 100% of tests...

Hiya - why is the wiper configuration a "con"...select Auto and leave them alone :)
As Auto mode didn't pickup rain in most scenarios, the sensors aren't accurate and resulted in having to manually change the speed.

I am actively looking at buying an EV in the next 6 months and have been looking at the Kia Niro and the Tesla mod 3/y. I have discounted the offerings from BMW Merc Audi as being overly expensive at not that fit for purpose. My issue with Tesla is that so much reminds me of Apple when I look at Telsla like can only be repaired by Tesla and possibly some built in obsolescence also, but the model Y does tick all the boxes for me.
Have you also considered the excellent Volvo XC40 Recharge Twin Pro? That, the Tesla and the Kia are among our highest scoring vehicles to date.
How much you pay for insurance?

You can add 3rd party instrument clusters, which also add Apple Carplay and Android Auto. They fit in seamlessly. They also add normal Google Maps and Waze. It goes against the Tesla vision though. I'll keep mine "vanilla" when it arrives next month.

@@TotallyEV Tesla doesn't offer it as it goes against their whole vision for that car. When you buy a Model 3, you know the minimalist interior you will get. They were bold and knew that people would get on board once they had tried it out. They were stubborn and stuck with that and ended up with the best selling EV in the world.
Originally I was going to buy a 2nd hand Model S. You can get a 2016 refresh model for around the same price as a Model 3. One reason was the lack of the dash, as well as the more luxury feel of the S. After a single test drive I was converted. Glancing at the screen for the speed, which is something you don't do THAT often, became routine very quickly. With Autopilot I doubt I will need to at all.
I was watching UA-cam Model 3 accessory videos yesterday and spent time today shopping online: rubber floor mats, console tray, etc. When I get that delivery date... I'll be ready!!

Great review! I'd love a Model 3, but the wiper speed and speedo reading only in the touchscreen are a step too far for me. Now I read that Musk is getting rid of the indicator stalks! I just wish he would dial it back a tad - this car would have much broader appeal with a few simple and inexpensive changes. Such a shame, as otherwise I would love one..

As we don't live ina very hot country (UK), it's hard for us to comment. But upon research about it, most in California don't seem to have a problem with it - you can always buy an optional sunshade too; this is mentioned in our written review of the M3 (check it out in the description of the video!)
Live in Florida. It gets very hot in the car so I have added heat reflecting inserts which helps, but reduces the view.

I was already aware of everything here...I consider the minimalist design with just the touch screen and lack of gauges and such to be a plus, so I'm good with all that. I ordered a SR+ at the end of March, still waiting for delivery. They're estimating 2-4 weeks from now, I don't have my VIN yet. Software updates are pretty frequent and they do take user suggestions into account, so things like wipers can be changed in the future. I plan on just keeping my wipers on auto.

@@IanWitts No it does not. On highway only tests, it gets close to model 3 but in mixed driving it is worse... Edmunds saying various cars get higher range than the EPA rating is because EPA uses city and highway driving mixed and Edmunds does a set speed highway test only... So all the cars that are poor in city driving end up with longer range than EPA estimate if you only test highway driving...
Many functions can be controlled with voice commands, including the wipers.
Some can, but a few glitches will leave you wondering if voice commands are really effective. Equally, voice commands will always be slower than physical input, no matter how advanced the vehicle is/can be.
@@TotallyEV This has not been my experience with voice commands. I can give a command without taking my eyes off the road. Do you drive a Tesla?
@@Garrison169 but pressing a button on your stalk is far simpler than waiting and initiating a voice command. There surely isn't any argument there?
As for the voice command not being accurate, we're not the only ones, you can find others on forums/UA-cam also experiencing inaccuracies with the voice control: ie. "turn seat heater down by one", will result in the seat heater going UP to full blast.
Honestly, it’s dumb to put everything on a screen. I prefer speed, fuel, coolant, etc in a traditional cluster. it looks like an iPad on wheels. I liked the older Tesla where there’s traditional stuff but they removed it and focused too much on a tablet in middle of the dashboard. I hope they will go back to traditional stuff like the other electric vehicles.

Very good review, but you describe lots of features without actually demonstrating it. For example, Smart Summon. You said it doesn't work but really didn't show us anything.
Glad you liked the review; as for the Summon feature, it was shown at 14:21 - this is all that's possible in the UK/EU. Smart Summon simply won't work, so showcasing a button press on an app, while the vehicle does nothing is...rather pointless.

I wish there was an option for zero sunlight blocking in the glass roof. Feels kind of wasted to have a view that blocks most of the light, especially if you want to stop somewhere to look at auroras or whatever. I'm not exactly concerned about being "cooked" in my car when I live north of the arctic circle.

As for the HUD, you could potentially add an aftermarket one, but it would involve wiring and potentially voiding your warranty.

@@TotallyEV Cool cool. I'd definitely want an aftermarket HUD if I'm eventually going for a Model 3 - but I imagine most of the generic aftermarket ones will be a bit confused by the output from an electric car :P

You can't on the Tesla, as the rear middle seat can't be converted (unless you do it yourself). The Polestar 2 however might be the one for you in that respect (and same class)
This is a long video - too long perhaps. But certainly one notable omission is the use of Tesla Voice to control the functions accessed via the central screen.
Instead of physically pressing button and going through menus, you can just ask the car to do something, such as "turn on/off the windscreen pipers". So you don't take your attention from the road ahead.
Voice actuation works really well in Tesla Model 3 and makes the car feel even more like a game changer.
You're right we omitted the feature, and truthfully should have commented on how poor it is in comparison to the likes of Google Assistant, which is found in the Polestar 2.

Pressing buttons, or flicking a wiper switch is so much faster than actuating and hoping for the Tesla voice commend to work (let alone correctly)!
My 2021 Tesla 3 has to have battery replaced after having driven it for only 1000 miles! Bit of a shocker! Tesla will replace as its under warranty, they have had the car for almost 2 months now as the battery has to be shipped in. I was told that this is rare but this is still very surprising for a brand new car.

Regarding the autopilot it is constantly improving and autopilot was not engaged when the crash happened!

There are several after market dashboard displays that plug into the autopilot interface.

So, good quality content But, re the speed display. The difference between glancing at a display in between the spokes of the steering vs glancing to the left of the steering wheel is inconsequential, literally re train you brian form legacy ways of working and learn how to move on
"does it better than all these vehicles COMBINED" is that the right way to say that the Model 3 has better range than all those cars? I mean, not combined. a combined range figure for all those cars you mentioned is huge. Idk. English is not my native language. another user with a dead M3. At third week of driving, an alert showed up saying "OK TO DRIVE. PLEASE SCHEDULE SERVICE VISIT. Vehicle speed and power may be limited" -- Car slowed to 65 mph while traveling 75 mph in the fast lane; requiring immediate lane change to avoid becoming a hazard. Top speed was then limited to 65 mph by the associated fault response programming. At dealer was informed of diagnosis that oil pump issue had been sent from car to Tesla Main data receiving HQ. Subsequent firmware update --- reportedly necessary when significant components of the car are replaced -- failed - repeatedly. Car is now inoperable and awaiting examination by Tesla engineering; as I understand the issue is beyond the scope of the dealer technician to resolve.
Car initially (my very first entrance to car) had an issue where the touchscreen would turn grey on the right 2/3rds, becoming unresponsive to any touches, auto reboot after approx. 1 min, then work for some time only to fail again and again later.

The question raised was whether M3 is still the best... You are not comparing it to any other car! Have a look at Autogefuhl where Thomas is comparing M3 to Polestar. Tight race and hard to decide which one is best. Mach e is another car that would be close to the M3. Don't think it is serious just to talk about M3 (which I am sure is a great car) and then conclude.
We know it's a detailed and long review, but if you watched it all, you'd see that we made multiple references to its competitors! Of course, this isn't a comparative review (such as a head-to-head), but you're entitled to your opinion.
Nice thorough run through. Having come from 5 years of commuting in an MX5, I've been impressed with the driving experience. You can feel the extra weight of the M3 but it still feels relatively agile and the quick steering rack is great. There's not a lot of feedback from the steering but that's true of a lot of modern set ups. I miss the exhaust note and gear changing a bit, but you just need to reboot your mindset. Re. the lack of regent settings, it used to be an optionbut was dropped. Good unbiased review🙂

Indeed found out the regen options were a thing before but were dropped - odd decision by Tesla.
After driving a manual for a long time, I thought I would miss gear changes when I got an '09 Audi A3 Cabriolet, but it turns out when you drive a car back a forth from work 5 days a week you really start to appreciate having a car that's just easy to drive. I fully intend to buy a Model 3 just as soon as I can scrape together enough cash (because I refuse to get another car loan).
Have they got rid of interior and exterior quality issues? You see allot of these cars in the most affluent areas of London and around the country. I saw one with a number plate like W 48 only in London. 🤣
Haha! Can't really say, you'll have to look on forums etc, but much like any car manufacturer there can be issues with production.
