ZOOM METCON TURBO 2 REVIEW: thatfitfriend....
    METCON 7 REVIEW: thatfitfriend....
I've received a fair amount of questions on the topics of the Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 versus the Nike Metcon 7.
Both of these Nike cross-training shoes deliver strong performances in their own right. The Nike Metcon 7 is a good shoe for lifting and CrossFit while the Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 is a solid model for athletic-focused training, lifting, and CrossFit.
In this Nike Metcon 7 versus Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 comparison, I'm going to discuss a variety of topics to help you decide which model is best for you.
0:00 Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 vs Metcon 7
    0:32 4 Key Differences
    5:17 Best for Lifting?
    6:27 Best for CrossFit?
    7:50 Best for Versatile Training?
    9:15 Best for Running?
    10:18 Sizing and Fit
    11:28 Drops, Weights, and Insoles
    12:15 Construction Side-by-Side
    15:39 Final Thoughts
Overall, I like the Nike Metcon 7 and Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2, but for slightly different reasons.
I've really enjoyed using the Metcon 7 for heavier training and for training blocks where I'm blending in CrossFit workouts.
For athletic-style training, the Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 has been a strong shoe (sans the durability issue I ran into).
There are a couple of drawbacks that come along with each model for certain training contexts.

Great stuff man, I have metcon 7 and like them a lot for 80% lifting 20% plyo/sprints
I believe the metcons 7 are actually 7mm drop btw, although they don’t feel that high, and I love them for squatting
Looking forward to more content on lifting :D

      Love it!
They were originally said to be 7mm and that’s what I was told when first reaching out to Nike, but that was wrong and they’re actually 4mm!
Have a note on that in my Metcon 7 video review and in the top comment 💪
I have some in the works! I’ve been wicked busy with shoe content and was a little disenchanted with training content, honestly, but I’m getting it back 💪

Just scooped the Turbo 2's and love them. Fit is secure and feels like a better version than the Metcon. It's lower profile for sure and doesn't have as much cushioning but thats what you get with Zoom Air

Excellent comparison. While the Turbo 2 is my daily driver, I will shy away from wearing it for rope climbs due to durability concerns and the fact that I usually use some old Nano 6s for rope climbs as those are old and not $150. I still love my 7s but I only wear them now to give my feet a break and swap pressure points.

Hey Jake! Love the content! Just had a bit of a specific question for ya: I’m not really into cross training and was looking at these 2 models - I like the idea of a wider toe box (I have fat feet) in the turbos for dls but wish I had the hyper lift heel for squats. I was thinking about getting the turbos and removing the soles for when I dl and getting some versalift inserts for my squats. I’m a little worried about the offset in the metcons for dls but I’d love your input. Thanks!

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  Рік тому +1

IMO, if you took the insole out they may feel a little weird due to their sole construction. I would just pull barefoot in that context, honestly! Also, a 4mm drop is likely not going to impact performance that much, especially, if you acclimated to it. Then again, I'm pro barefoot or barefoot shoes for super specific pulling work like when in prep or working heavy singles, doubles, and triples.
Additionally, I'm not the biggest fan of the Turbos for Versalifts either, the thicker insole gives them a weird fit with them. I tried this a few weeks back when I reviewed Versalifts and this was a model that was super hit or miss with their fit and feel.
Hope that helps - shout if I can answer anything else for you!

Hi Jake, have you tried to replace the insoles for the nike zoom turbo 2 and put them into the nike metcon 7 or 8? and if you so, did you notice any benefits?

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  Рік тому +1

I have not! My only concern in doing so is that insole may be too thick to where the 7/8's upper fits too snug.

Both work. Think the Metcon 7 will be better, but its heel kind of stinks for running be warned!

  • @ChronicWatClesNarnia

Interesting that the new Turbo 2 gets a nod for plyo work and not heavy lifting; I’d have thought the Metcon 7 was the best compromise there. It’s almost like Nike added that air pocket in the insole to the Turbo 2a as a last tweak to make them more like Crossfit shoes?

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  2 роки тому

They get a nod for heavy lifting, too. Both are fine for heavier training. I believe that was their intention with it!
I kind of feel like the Turbo 2 has somewhat of an identity crisis.

  • @Nissehult23

Got the Metcon Turbo 2 today and used them for a leg workout. Usually warm up on a treadmill for 5 minutes, but with these shoes i could barely walk in a straight line on the treadmill. I do believe it is because of the grip of the shoe, because when your feet are on the floor/treadmill, you cant turn even when just your front are planted on the floor.
I'm used to general running/daily shoes and coming to these, they are superflat. The sole is moving inside the shoe, which causes the squeaking and also takes away from the good grip the shoe otherwise has underneath it.
So for a regular bodybuilder and someone who simply does cardio some days and muscle workouts the other days, they might be a little expensive for their purpose. They're very good for squats and leg press. Deadlifts you might as well do bare feet than buy these shoes.

Heyo! Thank you for the feedback and for sharing your experiences - love the detail you provided.
Keep me posted on their performance as you break them in more!
I think as you break them in more the insole should give you more pliability and feel better, but would love to know what you experience.

@@thatfitfrienddear Jake, I know is plain 2024, but I'm trying to get turbo 2.
My main concern is if they would feel TOO FLAT. I bought already Adidas Everyset and found too flat and feel displeased for it.
I want a mid term between flat and high heel -as the Romaleos-. I think something like Nanoflex but
I want Nike. Appreciate tons you replay 🙏

  • @ra0333

I wish they’d get rid of the plastic insert. Or build it into the insole. I’d grab it tomorrow if that were an option.
    Cool comparison as always

I agree with you. It’s funny, when filming this I had a clip where I said, “imagine the 8 with the optional insert coming back, the zoom air packet, and a reworked outsole - the dream,” but kept messing it up so I took it out!
I liked the optional insert so much more, too. Gave you more variety with feel/performance!

@@thatfitfriend I don't own the shoe but I'm an 11 1/2. I was just wondering cause I don't want to buy the shoe if the insole can't be replaced. In my experience with react foam, when it gets uncomfortable it's is really uncomfortable. There is no middle comfort zone once they were out so I don't want to get the turbos. I'm gonna go with the metcon 7 most likely. Do the metcon 7s have that thin insole they normally put in the running shoes?
