    REACT METCON VS ZOOM METCON: thatfitfriend....
    The Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 is the latest cross-training shoe to debut from Nike. This is the follow-up model to the fairly popular Nike React Metcon Turbo.
    The Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 is designed to be somewhat of a "jack of all trades" style training shoe that can work for heavy lifting, agility, running, and even CrossFit. As a fan of the React Metcon Turbo, I was excited to put the Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 to the test.
    In this Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 review, I'm going to discuss a variety of topics including:
    0:00 Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 Pros
    2:21 Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 Cons
    4:55 Performance
    8:21 Who are these best for?
    9:10 Sizing and Fit
    10:02 Price
    10:49 Weight, Heel-to-Toe Drop, and Insole
    11:36 Construction
    14:00 Final Thoughts
    Overall, there's a lot to like about the Nike Zoom Metcon 2, but there are also a few cons that come along with this shoe.
    I think if you like athletic-style training and fitting shoes that work well for hybrid-style workouts, then you'll enjoy this model. Plus, if you liked the React Metcon Turbo, then this model will also probably resonate with you.
    Conversely, if you're on the market for a budget-friendly training shoe or a model designed more specifically for CrossFit or activities outside of hybrid-style settings, then you can likely find strong training shoes that will be more cost-efficient.

    What a great in-depth review! For someone who wears orthotics i find it hard to find information on what shoes are compatible with my feet. So to see you consider those with arch support in your video is really great.

    I decided to give these a try after listening to Jake’s review. I was not a fan of the Metcon 9 and thought these could be a good option. I personally have enjoyed them a lot. I find them super responsive for plyo’s while also being able to handle some heavy lifts

As a sports coach (football, powerlifting, throwers, wrestling) and strength coach at the high school level, I am always looking for comfortable shoes that hold up and look good. I was on the fence about whether getting the NIKE ZOOM METCON TURBO 2 or the Nano X2. But the durability issue of the METCON TURBO 2 raised by your review is a deal breaker. Especially since I do a lot of jumping, plyo and dus. Thus for now I am leaning towards the Nano. I really wanted to like these shoes. I really like the design. Too bad. Please keep us posted about the durability of your METCON TURBO 2. Hope Nike will address the issue in the next-gen METCON TURBO 3.

      I will definitely do so! I would like to get another pair fresh and put them through the same string of workouts to see if I had a one-off pair.
      I wouldn’t write them completely off yet, honestly, a few athletes who have commented really enjoy them. I think waiting a bit longer for more colorways and to gather more feedback from the community could be a good strategy call for the investment!

    awesome job. I agree with the fit, the more athletic fit makes it easier to pull plyo workouts and transition seamlessly to weight lifting. Me being the crazy mad scientist that i am i used the turbo2's insole on my metcon 5's and wow. That zoom unit changes the feel of them. My favorite Frankenstein shoe is the M5 with a T2 insole now, as i love the side panels on the 5/6's for rope climbing.

  • @ogjamesb
    @ogjamesb Рік тому

    just an fyi the term you use for insole should really be "drop-in midsole". This tech can be found in a lot of nike models especially basketball shoes. The midsole is usually made out of foam (eva foam, cushlon or in this case react) and nike usually attaches zoom units to this midsole and removing this midsole always leaves the show vulnerable with minimal structure since only the outsole (and maybe strobel board) is basically left.

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  2 роки тому

      Both work, but it depends on the style of fit you like! If you like how the Free Metcon 3s hug the foot/fit, then go Zoom.

If you like more midsole/support go Trainer+ and if you want something that feels like a cleat, low-profile, and minimalist in nature, then go Nike. I do think the Trainer+ will be more durable long-term.

      @@thatfitfriend hi Jake, I currently just use New Balance running shoes with fresh foam. I only do around 10 minutes on the trade mill at a 13% gradient. And 10 minutes on each machine, rowing machine, elliptical trainer, stationery bike, ski erg, all at high intensity, I do free weights squats but not heavy as I am 55 and have arthritis. But have been training since I was 12. Also I do floor ab workouts

    Hey Jake!
    I have an issue with sizing. I live in Europe, and usually, my shoes are size 40 EU. I tried them, but the shoes were tight in the lateral of the front part of my feet (the ankle and length were perfect, though). When I tried to jump and bend my feet to use the forefoot, I felt my toes touching the front of the shoes, and that feeling was so uncomfortable! So I changed for the size 40.5 EU. THEY FELT PERFECT when I first wore them, not too tight on the forefoot as I enjoy. But after 3 workouts, it feels like the shoes got softer and larger, and now my feet are dancing in the front part. FOR INSTANCE, when I do box jumps, I can feel that first the shoes 'land' in the box, and after my forefoot. These milliseconds of difference if annoying (or am I being too dramatic here?).
    What do you believe these shoes should feel like when you first wear them (before softening them)" tighter than average?
    Thanks!

      Hey!
      These shoes do run a bit more snug/tighter compared to other training shoes, so it doesn't surprise me that your normal TTS felt snug. That's why I describe their fit as almost cleat-like in some ways or similar to the Metcon 4. The mesh upper in the forefoot does stretch a bit after being broken in, but in your context, it almost sounds like this model in your TTS may just run too narrow for you.
      If the 40s didn't work and 40.5 have you feeling like you're swimming, then this may be a model that doesn't align well with your foot anatomy. This is an issue that a lot of athletes seems to have in the Metcon Turbo model line, IMO.
      If you don't want to return the 40.5, you could try wearing thicker socks with them and the sole should break in more after about ~2-weeks.
      Let me know if that helps at all - sorry your sizing is off in this model. That's frustrating!

      I'm wondering if I should keep wearing the size 40 since the mesh upper in the forefoot stretches a bit after being broken in. Again, the issue is not when I'm lifting, it's only when jumping (when my weight is on the forefoot) that my toe touches the shoes.
      How much space should be between the toe and the forefront, when standing?

    I just got this shoe and I feel like the construction is weird. The outsole and insole being separate entities makes it feel a little insecure. I feel a “squeak” as I walk and I can feel the insole and outsole moving separately. Does this ever go away? I wanted the Metcon 7 but at 13 there aren’t many options these days, the 8 imo is just ugly. Would the Free Metcon 4 be better? I am not doing much heavy lifting and I’m not a traditional cross fitter but I do want a stable training shoe to train for Spartans.

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  2 роки тому

      @@gigwatt119 it really depends on the tread patterning!
      For ex, there are trainers that don’t have aggressive lugs like trail runners, but still do great on turf while others fall short. Pattern + full rubber/almost full rubber outsoles + denser midsoles are usually what you’ll want to look for in your context when there aren’t aggressive lug patterns on particular shoes. These construction features will allow you to grip the floor better and create a stronger push.
