Gamestop basically holds a gun to their head and FORCES them to try and sell everything. I was fired from Gamestop after 90 days of employment in 2004 because I didnt get enough preorders.
Well I am happy that I've never been in any *Gamestop* before. Hope you are feeling much better for not working in Gamestop anymore *Untitle Nerd Netowrk* Because it sounds like *Vanburen20* said *Horrible!*
I’m an assistant store manager for GameStop and I’ll tell you this: When my boss is around, I do things by the books, and yes, that means engaging with customer and bugging them. But the other 80% of the time I’m working at my store, when I’m alone or with my subordinates I rarely leave from behind the counter to bug people. I feel like the environment at my store is so much better and a lot of people seem so pleased after they make their purchases and leave. The way I run my GameStop is: 1. I genuinely say what’s up to EVERY person that walks in 2. I only engage with customers when I see they clearly need help, or I’ll just simply ask “do you have any questions?” And then walk away. 3. I’m informative, but never pushy. I’ll gladly leave someone alone if I sense aggravation. 4. I try to make every customer laugh at least once during every interaction, and I make sure I go in depth talking about games (when we’re not busy) and passionately talk about my favorites when I find someone else that fancies the same games. And 5. I ALWAYS let people come in, and freely browse as they wish, sometimes with absolutely nothing from me except a “hello hows your day”? We get rated by surveys and I’ve only not gotten a 10/10 one time, and all the comments people leave for me make me feel like I’m truly making a difference for GameStop. I’m the change I’ve wanted to see in GameStop since I was a teenager. Now, is that what my bosses want? No... But I don’t care. I still meet my sales plan every week and I feel like my GameStop is the “cool” GameStop. Thanks for reading!
I’ve never had a bad experience at GameStop. I’ve actually had worse experiences with BestBuy. Seriously, whenever I walk in my local GameStop, the guy asks “looking for anything specific” and I politely say no and they leave me alone until I’ve found what I’ve found. And if I am looking for something specific the guy immediately gets the game and rings me up, mentions the power up reward card maybe once, and that’s the end of it. I’ve actually had pretty nice conversations with the employees and they are fun to talk to. Hell, it was a GameStop employee that convinced me to buy Persona 5, and that turned out to be my favorite game ever. Seeing these videos complaining about GS is so weird because I’ve had drastically different experiences then any of them.
What pisses me off abt Best buy well certain best buy's is that they never have everything already outside on the shelves and when u ask them for it they take like a good 10 to 15 mins sometime even 20 mins and I be like wtf are they making it in the warehouse
no body believes this. gamestop is horrible to everybody, either you are a paid shill or you are just lying lol. game stop is a shit company, you have just higher threshold for BULLSHIT. this company is rotten to the core and everyone knows it. you are in the 0.0000 majority of people who have "good" experiences here.
@@ChrististKing I guess im a paid "shill" too. Never had any bad experiences at a GameStop. Granted I've only been to GameStop a hand full of times in my whole life. But they did talk me out of buying Medal of Honor Tier 1 and pre ordering CoD Black Ops instead. Was happy they did though.
James Santos k let me specify. MY GAMESTOP IN THE CITY OF RENO NEVADA HAS NEVER GIVEN ME OR ANYONE I KNOW A BAD EXPERIENCE. I don’t know how other GameStops are like, maybe they are as bad as people say but the one in my area has always been nice. And how can I be a paid shill when I’m 15 years old without a job.
I'm an assistant manager at a gamestop. Can tell you that you should never be harassed. Our job is supposed to be to help you. If you ever came in my store and any employee kept bugging you like that I would have written them up. Any employee should know games always release on Tuesday or Friday. Only seen one game ever release on a Saturday. Sounds like you just ended up with a seriously stupid employee. Sorry you seem to have crappy luck with your local stores.
@@vanburen20 retail is a soul destroying job at times(thankfully I have not worked in retail for years),I think alot of people in these jobs have something to prove when they disagree with a customer-they should really be employing people who know about new games and are into gaming or at least willing to keep up to date so this kind of scenario doesnt happen-I doubt gamestop were selling this game a day after release-the guy obviously had the info wrong and was not willing to question himself so he just tried to make out you were wrong......
I work at GameStop. We only ask you a few questions and that's it. In my opinion, that store is being pushed to get pre-orders but not like that. That's insane.
@@BSM7702 I cover my behind after everything I do so there won't be any issues. I'm still here now. The energy changes more than we change clothes. You never know when you are on thin ice.
One time I went to gamestop to buy a Nintendo Switch and I went to the counter to redeem my preorder on March 4th, ONE DAY after it came out. I said to him, “Hey, I have a preorder for the Nintendo Switch, could I please have one?” He said, “Sir, I think you are a bit confused about that one, the console comes out on March 24th.” We got into a argument and I had to go to another GameStop 30mins away. smh
I used to be a assistant manager at GameStop. First I just wanted to say GameStop was the worst company I ever worked for. That being said understand the GameStop company has only one interest and that is to take as much money from you as possible. The reason you were assaulted at the door is because the employees are literally forced to greet you, find your interests and then lead you to preordering and or leading you to the used section (where they make 90% more then new) actually in my store I was prompted to use a tablet so I could gather your information so I could imeadiately send email to you asking you to sell your games as I get your info. My district manager would come one a week and and review the security camera to check we were assaulting the customers. If we did not do this and did not reach our ever constant quota we were lectured threatened and put down. By the way GameStop payed me one dollar over minimum wage and expected me to pretty much do everything that needed to be done including maintenance and plumbing. In the end I was to human for GameStop and I had a bad habit of allowing small discounts (between 1-2dollars) off customers that came up a little bit short as well as giving out free insurance on games that were being replaced and well...the company decided that was out of my scope as manager, so instead of just letting me go they decided to try to get me to sign a document making me liable for $1000 in damages (more then the entire amount of discounts I had given in my whole time working there) I refused to be criminalized for having a heart and walked out on them. Anyway my point is they are a horrible company.
now days it is online downloads off steam or ps4 or xbox markets. And if people want hard covers 4 games, everyone just goes to target or walmart and even best buy. GameStop has died and the company is just trying to make money anyway they can. Sad that being a good manager had you liable for damage that u did not do.
Fun fact here. Gamestop does not make any money for the company as a whole selling used things. That does not count for them at all. The only way they are making money for the company is selling the power up rewards program and whatever they have for exclusives. Them selling a new Playstation 4 doesn't even make them any money as a company. They do not have a huge variety of things like Best Buy and maybe should be private.
@@casey3685 Supposedly they just sold off their crappy cel phone company for $700 mil this week, which gives them a major cash infusion. Which in a rare burst of almost sane management behavior they are mainly using to pay down their debt to get themselves attractive enough for a buyout offer to take them private. Honestly if they don't succeed they are screwed.
I live in the UK but recently visited America, I went to 3 gamestops while I was there and the moment I walked through the door I had staff greet me and basically jump straight on me. It was only until they heard my British accent they dropped the whole pre-order thing. They really do know how to make you feel uncomfortable.
In my opinion, as soon as you said you have a review copy should’ve been the end of the argument. I’ll give the employee the benefit of the doubt on the stuff before you said that as not many people had the game for Switch at the time (as it wasn’t out yet), but the moment you said that you got the game early from Blizzard for review purposes should’ve ended the exchange no questions asked
I'm an employee at GameStop, the training process for me was terrible. I was trained on certain things by my fellow employees but I ultimately ended up having to train myself. You don't NEED knowledge on video games, at All to be hired. They don't care if you only know of halo and you are trying to work in a GameStop. CAN YOU SELL? Is the only thing that matters. They aren't as terrible as they used to be about up selling. They have chilled a good amount about that.
@Ruby Because how the hell are you supposed to sell a product you know nothing about? Not only that I've had people who don't know what they are talking about give false information to customers. People ask so many questions about video games for example "What kind of game is this?" "How are the graphics?" "Are there any games similar to ____?" "Can you explain to me the story of this game" "Do you have any shooters that aren't Call of Duty?" "What kind of fight stick would you recommend?" "What's the difference between the Xbox one x and the PS4 pro?" "Any good RPGs you recommend?" "In this game I'm stuck at a certain part how do you get past that?" And people call over the phone all the time asking us questions like we are tech support "Okay I downloaded a game and it shows a little lock on the side of the game and I can't play it for some reason can you help me?" They ask so many specific questions that you are basically useless to a lot of customers if you can't provide them the info they need. You don't work at GameStop so you have no idea how clueless a lot of the customers who come into the store are about video games.
Um, females play video games too. I was the manager and I have a total of 13 tattoos on my body that are all video game related. Some of us are as dedicated as it gets.
Why I was chosen? No most of the store managers in my district are males except for 2, they RARELY hire girls because they are like you where they don't believe we play video games. I became manager because I had more knowledge and I worked harder than all the men there.
@@CadetChicken I am living in India wow you're caring so much customer satisfaction it so good in my country know employee told any information about video game they just cell ,if I want to know any information about video game online is the only way
You act like walking out of the store was some sort of mic-drop moment. You weren't even going to spend any money there. I can tell by the way you're telling the story that you were being vague, while wanting to argue at the same time. You could've just brushed him off completely, or explained what you were doing in 2 sentences. "Blizzard already sent me a digital copy of the game. I just wanted to check out the box's artwork for my review."
2:53 so he really just had to say "I have a review copy [...] I'm just here to look at the artwork inside the case" to resolve this problem? Have you even watched the video?
@@the_dark_jumper2211 yeah he sounded like he wanted to be argumentative. Honestly though there are a mixed bag of employees at GameStop. One manager took the sticker off of some controllers I wanted to buy and instead charged me full price. When I asked she lied. I took them back immediately. Then other times, guys wanna give me the best copy of a game they have, case included bc they understand. The kid that worked there was prob selling pre-orders bc he's supposed to. The guy in the video wasn't clear enough in his explanation. Heck he didn't even have to argue. Who cares what day the game comes out? This is some menial bullshit
i worked at gamestop and was basically threatened because i didn’t get enough people to enroll in their memberships.... if i’m not encountering people that want it i can’t force anyone to do anything they don’t wish to do...
That’s how it works at any retail/food job unfortunately. As a (former) restaraunt manager of 3 years, we would get blamed for lack of sales and rowdy employees(even though we weren’t allowed to reprimand them..? Only the General Manager wanted to do that.) Basically you have to take responsibility for things out of your control. It’s just the wage life.
One time i bought a used version of The Walking dead, when i got home within the first few minutes of the game it would freeze and it was impossible to get past it, i went to take it back and when i did they refused to refund or even replace because "i broke it"
As a kid i learned to keep my mouth shut and not argue. It may cause more conflict or may lead to violence or in death during the altercation. You never know what the next person has in mind and what they are capable of doing to someone else. For that person not to be you just walk away. Only deal violence when you or family or innocent is in danger. Take care
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. I appreciate your words in the context of compromise, but that ideology isn't helpful. If you don't deal with the person, then someone else will eventually have to.
What a shitty way to live life, being scared of what someone is capabale of so you avoid them and never voice your opinion... That would turn someone into an introvert, and to me, life is all about making connections with others. If you avoid speaking to people, you will miss out on a lot of experiences. Obviously the outcomes could be good or bad, but that's the whole point.
It would have made the headlines: "Gamestop employee murders window-shopping customer over release day of Diablo III and one of them actually went to Hell"
You sure? I’ve heard EB games is just as bad. That being said, Gamestops here in Texas leave you alone and only ask once maybe twice if you need any help.
@BadAss Brad ya thats what I loved about eb gamds and they were actually helpful and if they didn't know they would tell you straight up. You go to an eb games and feek welcome and feel more like want to spend money. I remeber my first time at an eb games. Back in 94 same thing for gamestop. Gamestop was 399 for both ps and saturn. Ps had 8 free games of your choice and ssturn 6 i think it was. Then at eb games 349 and both came with 11 games then for 380 got an extra controller and a memory card. So cheaper prices better customer service and better deals.
@BadAss Brad you could do that in like ever eb games. As they loved games and wanted to enteract with other gamers. They are their purely for the love of games. Ya their a business but they put the gaming passion first and it shows.
Man, im a lucky bastard. At the GameStop I go to, the employees are very kind. Sure they ask me to pre-order stuff and buy extra controllers but they ask me once and if i say no then they stop. Hell they even informed me of the Smash Pre order way before it was announced. Its a real shame because they're closing down due to the mall they're located in going bankrupt.
I feel you. I once went over to a mall in America and found a gamestop and when I went in the guy followed me trying to talk me into what to buy and he kept telling me to preorder games or buy whatever he thinks is best. I left in less then 2 minutes.
I actually work at an Eb games up in Canada (owned by gamestop) and the answer is yes. We aren't properly trained, when they hire in bunches they typically pick one or two people to in depth train and the rest of us are kinda left in the wind. The systems are confusing and policies are overly complicated so when management gets called to help they can twist it. Our numbers for selling used , edge cards/power up cards and preorders are shoved down our throats with the threat of being written up or fired. Dont get me wrong, Eb / game stop would be an amazing place to work if it wasnt so buried in crappy power tripping or lazy management and everything didnt boil down to "your only useful if you can get numbers" I dont get the numbers but people have actively told me that I helped them so well that they wished we worked on commission so I'd get a pay bonus. Quality is being killed by quantity
I have an eb Games next to where I live pretty much all the time it’s quite all the the most I’ve seen people in the store was like 8 people this friday was for one reason lets go pikachu and let’s go eevee where I live no body really play video games in that same when 2k17 came out only 3-4 people where picking up the game that store is just like they sell more merchandise than games
@PlayerPerPerson Personal Gaming eb games was amazing. Gamestop could never compete with eb games in terms of overall customer service and shoppers enjoyment
I've shopped around at GameStop before; and I've had some approach me as I was browsing their merchandise. When they start asking me what I'm looking for; I just tell them "nothing specific; just looking to see what you have. If I find anything that interests me; I'll let you know." And every time; they left me alone after that. Probably because I basically made it clear that if they want me to buy something; they'll have a better chance if they leave me alone as I browse their merchandise.
I've had an argument with a couple of GameStop employees before. One was trying to tell me that Pikachu doesn't evolve. And a different one was trying to tell me that you can't turn items off in Smash Brothers... God I hate that place. I hate it when my friends want to go.
Yeah, the employee must have been low on numbers and was stressed. They were always peeking at my numbers and calling me at all hours of the day to bother me about fixing that. It was so stressful.
me :who pre orders harry potter collection (pre orders the game) employee: alright here is the recipt and.... Have a good day me: okay bye! i wish your gamestop was exactly like mines all nice and polite
That one kid in the background more than 90 percent of the shit he says is bullshit to get people to make bullshit comments as if it happens to them also lol
That one kid in the background yeah my local gamestop has really nice employees i have made friends with some of them really nice people but sadly there are locations with jerky employees
Nah, when I visit my EB games, (The Canadian version of GameStop). When I want to buy a game I get berated with, "You want to pre-order anything?" I literally made a fuss once because a cashier didn't want to let me through without pre-ordering something. It was just the one time though, for that last thing. I think they got fired.
I’ve gone in multiple times and been harassed for pre orders, when i used to play pokémon i went to buy a used copy of Pokémon diamond, and when i’m playing for it, the guy says “would u like to pre order anything?” and i said no, the guy asks again, and i tell him none of the new games interest me, THEN HE LISTS ALL THE GAMES, and it’s just crazy because i’m there for one thing, i didn’t go to pre order
Yeah it is weird. Ironically its the women who work at gamestop who typically don't harass you. They're pretty chill when it comes to gaming. I don't have too many screwy encounters at ours but we do have 2 guys who will talk you to death and sometimes its not even upsell you on something. I was just getting Smash for the midnight release. I want to go with my purchase and I don't want to be rude to the guy but he doesn't know how to just say enjoy your game and have a nice night. Instead he was gonna try to nerd me out into the 45th dimension until I forced a good bye
What do I gotta do to get review copies of games? I've always wanted to do the whole alpha testing/beta testing and reviewing on games as a job but no clue how to get to it
Dude I'm not kidding, when I worked there one seasonal guy insisted on bringing in those little alphabet cards to teach small kids the alphabet to categorize the games by letter. He was special to say the least.
At my local GameStop they're a bit more coy but I used to work at a different one so I know this trick. Instead of pushing preorders down your throat what they'll do is have 2 people at the counter and as your checking out the two guys will "casually" talk about upcoming games and say to each other to preorder it and like "it'll be gone in a day so I should preorder it" and the other person will be like "oh absolutely! I preordered my copy earlier today". Making it seem like a casual conversation but in reality are selling preorders. My response is always "dude I used to work at a GameStop and I know exactly what's going on right now".
I actually really like my GameStop. They know me by name, and know what I am there for without saying a thing. There are three guys including the manager that have been there for 5 years, and are great. They have two new people that annoy the crap out of me. The manager Paul must of sensed the stupidity, and said i got this, help someone else. They never try and upsale, rarely promote preorders, because they know me and they know I pre-order and I know what I want. However, there have been GameStops in other states I went to that really piss me off, but once they look up my account all of a sudden they stop the upsale crap. So I assume they see how much I spend. I never ran into someone as stupid and ignorant as what your saying. I would have had to hold it back... You should have just took your hand and knocked off a bunch of cases for Switch and walked out knocking stuff off the shelves until you got out. Great Rant!
Very true Eric and its been that way for almost 2 decades. I stopped shopping with them for over a decade at this point and surprised they've lasted this long.
In Australia and Canada GameStop Is EB Games and it is way better there, when you go in they say hey can i help you and when you say no they say okay and you can just look and when you get a game they say that will be this price then you just leave no hassle
@@vanburen20When I went to GameStop in Chicago I had the worst experience ever as soon as i walk in they say can I help you I say no and they say would you like to buy the would you be interested in buying the new 3ds I say no I already have a 3ds xl why would I get a 3ds? And then i grabbed a copy of Super Mario Odyssey for Nintendo switch and they said would you like to also buy a copy of bomber man for the Nintendo switch I said no and he continues to lecture me and 7 minutes I leave with my copy of Super Mario Odyssey
Em in America EB games is Game Stop. They boght out EB games thus changing the name to Game Stop. Thus cooperate changing its stores policies and not knowing games killed the franchise to its last leg at this moment in time.
@@javierestrada8249 My EB Games is in Australia it's really good cause that's fantastic customer service, they know games, but the worst bad thing is at EB Games new games are $99 on PS4 and Xbox One but at GameStop new PS4 games and Xbox One Games are $59 if you don't believe look at the EB Games website it's www.ebgames.com.au
When a worker goes out of their way to try and prove the customer wrong then they clearly know nothing about customer service. I always tell them no I'm just looking and they always leave me alone. Never had a problem every now and then they will tell me about a special they have going on besides that I haven't never been followed around the store like that and I have been going to gamestop for over 10 years but there is the same girl that has been managing my gamestop almost the whole 10 years I been going she always does a good job and doesn't pressure you into anything.
I hate them too, sean.I went there to buy a New case for my Switch, and when I put it on the counter, the Worker Looked at the case, looked at ME, and rolled his eyes. And he talked to me like i Was BOTHERING HIM!! I can relate sean.
I’ve had a similar issue at my local GameStop because I was talking about the FO76 beta for the xb1 release date for the servers and they were spewing off a incorrect release date for the beta... I hope no one got screwed over because the servers were opening at random dates and times
damn that is really hard to believe. Either that employee is really incompetent (if so, it can't be difficult to see he isn't fit for the job) or you're over-exaggerating the situation and you're playing what you wanna play in your head.
No there is really people that stupid. I had a conversation with a guy and I was in disbelief how dedicated he was at defending something that you show clear as day is wrong information. The guy he was described sounded like the same dumb shit the guy I was conversing with was saying.
I worked at Gamestop for 4 years, I was always told whenever a customer said “no” to weather or not they needed help, I responded with “okay, let us know if you need help”, but granted, I had a great manager who knew great customer service, so I was lucky, I am not surprised that other stores do this, for how much I liked working there, it definitely had its moments where I hated it
I went to get a used psvita (family gave me gamestop gift cards. I didn't want to get 1 off Amazon cause u don't know what condition its in and I don't feel comfortable meeting some stranger off Craig's list of w.e. so game stop was my only option) so I talk to the employees (usually they are nice. They even give me free copies of game informer which they are only suppose to do for like the high up members or w.e. which I'm not so usually they are pretty chill) and a guy brings me out a very nice looking used psvita. No scratches nothing. I asked all it came with,he told me every thing even including the sd card (yes the playstion brand crap u r forced to buy for it) and said its like a 30 gig one. I said that I was pretty sure it didn't come with one and the 30 gig is the storage That's already on the system. Of course he argues but w.e.,so I said "ok so if I buy this and open it up and no card inside then I can get 1 for free?" He said yes as long as I have the receipt and he would sign it just in case he wasnt there (he was being super nice he was just misinformed) so of course there was no card and so I bring it all in the next day and a manager was there, told her the situation and she said "ya they don't come with 1. Im sorry we can't give u 1 for free" and then I was a little upset but I still kept nice and asked "well since your employee which u guys are suppose to train, gives out misinformation, im the 1 who gets screwed over? He should have called and asked if he was unsure ." (and btw in my state if u do something like that u r suppose to make it right or else its false advertisement . they dont have to give u the item itself but a gift card or something to make it up to u. I wasn't trying to get anything free,I just wanted a darn card so I could actually download a game. I don't know much about all that stuff and trusted they would know. Lesson learned). Manager said it wasn't her fault and they can't do anything about it and wouldn't even give me like 10% off of a card id have to buy from them. So I demanded my money back. She said they can't do that and I said yes u can cause I bought the extra warranty thing and suppose to either exchange, give credit or give me money back as long as the system still works, hasn't been tampered with etc . so I told her to get a higher up on the phone. She didn't want to but I convinced her. I told the district manager the situation and he told the manager to give me the sd card for free cause it was the employees fault for not asking to even check to see if his info was correct. I was lucky cause I know lots of people been screwed over. It was a couple months ago and Xbox added the metal gear solid HD collection to backward compatible for Xbox 1. So I went to game stop and asked if they had the game for Xbox 360,they said no but another store had it and can have it sent to the store and could pick it up after 2pm. I said cool. She told me it was $15 so I was happy. I came the next day to pick it up and she told me it was $25. I said "u told me $15. Now its $25?" She said that its because the price went up over night knowing people would be coming in to buy the game and they do that to all the games that become backward compatible. I was upset cause I had been waiting for this to become backward compatible for a long time. I told her "u told me $15, and failed to mention that it was gonna go up an extra $10 over night or even that it could be a possibility" she just shrugged. So while standing there I got on Amazon and they had it brand new for $20. I showed her, showed her that I just bought it, and I told her she could try to scam somebody else. Selling a used game for $25 when u can get it brand new still for $20....insane. I walked right out and have never gone back.
I'm currently an ASL at GameStop and tomorrow is my last day. I have mainly sold cars for the last 6 years and pick this up as an easy-going take a break from stress job, and that wasn't the case they literally want you to be a gamer version of a used car salesman without the car salesman pay. Which ironically is what I'm going back to.
I worked for GameStop for two years and in every transaction I was forced to do eight quotas. GPG, preorder, edge card, attachment, biogeniks, warranty, trades, and used
Heard quite a few story's where the employees can be written up or fired for selling New consoles instead of refurbished ones when the customers ask for new ones.
I haven’t worked at GameStop but when I worked at JCP we were told to try and push sales, credit apps. I got tons of complaints but was actually congratulated by management because I got so many.
Gamestop employees were sometimes straight up belligerent and mocking toward me when I went there as a kid. They must have figured it didnt matter since I was just a kid. Gamestop has always been awful.
To be fair kids are the most annoying in most retail settings...All they really do is mess things up and end up not buying because you know, their unemployed kids. Like i dont mind calm kids that just hangout but some of these kids are sugar high in the store running around causing trouble without adult supervision and most of the time employees have to act as the parent.
^ That. If you had ever worked retail, you'd know that kids are generally a nightmare, particularly the kids with parents who don't care and then defend them when you ask them to calm down.
Also, when they train you, they MAINLY train you to push preorders and to sell preowned games, each employee has a “goal” for how many preorders to get and how many preowned games to sell in a shift, and if you don’t meet that goal you get punished. It’s absolutely ridiculous and one of the main reasons I DONT miss working there. I was a fantastic employee, all the customers LOVED me, but because I couldn’t meet my preorder or preowned “goals” I was ultimately punished by the district manager. Absolutely ridiculous
The in store experiences at these places is so bad now! I only shop online now seriously... I haven’t bought a physical game in 5 years... No lines no shit employees...
I worked for Game for several years in my youth, I can tell you they aren't all like that. Worked in some shockers, boy could I tell you some stories (Mark)
I used to work for gamestop and my Manager made me walk around the store and talk to customers. Ask them if they need any help and when they say know, keep trying to probe them for information. It made me feel super uncomfortable to constantly have to Badger people.
I've had a similar instance happen to me at a musical instrument store in South Africa, from a franchise called TOMs. For some reason there is always those types of people who think they know everything and will not accept they are wrong. They make a person want to go on a killing spree.
I went to my local Gamestop. They continuously followed me. I was looking for a game that wasn't even there. I was looking for MK11. Wasn't there. I told them MK11 was sold out. The guy was like "We have MKX." I told him I already had it. He actually said "Then leave.". :( That made me so livid. He even followed me out of the building, and said "Get out."
At my GameStop in Germany the people are always really nice. They don't try to sell me anything, only offering stuff I can buy additionally. If I say "no", they just say "alright, if you need anything then feel free to ask me." and then that's it most of the time until checkout.
I had a manager at Gamestop tell me that he had tried to reach me on my cell to remind me that they were doing a night time launch for Uncharted 4 when I was there the following day to pick up my preorder. I told him that I hadn't received such a call. He kept insisting that he had called me and remembered doing so. As his coworker is handing me my copy of the game, I pull out my phone to show him my call history from that day so that he could see that I wasn't contacted by him or any other Gamestop employee. (I do have their number stored in my contact list.) He still insisted that he called me and told me he left a voicemail that I also hadn't gotten. Him being so as-a-matter-of-fact about the situation made me go from happy to get my game to irate because I know he's wrong really quickly. It took every ounce of willpower that I had not to call him an idiot.
I’m sure every store has an employee or two like the you described, especially this time of year when seasonal help is being put in. It’s not like GameStop has classes you can attend, and sometimes you’ll have people who don’t have the right information. Is one person really a good excuse to hold the entire company accountable though? If you get a bad burger from McDonald’s is it the entire chains fault?
No, but McDonald's corporate will do something about it, because in today's competitive market, all that's left is the experience. A bad experience reflects poorly on your brand.
When I was younger a GameStop employee told me madden 2010 would be the last madden ever, just to get me to preorder it. When I said no (I just don’t like football games) he said I was making a huge mistake because the game would be really rare.
This is a 8 minute video on how I didn't like the customer service of one person. When did UA-cam lose all of its creativity. Of yeah after Smosh became number one way back in the day
@Phillip Oliver Holtz yeah real creative. every channel has become starting beef with other companies or other people to get viewers, and objectifying women by using their breasts as clickbait for their videos.
When I worked at gamestop as a Seasonal around Black Friday and Christmas a couple years ago I wasn't trained at all and nobody not even my manager showed me where the time sheet was for everyones shifts. I was told on my first shift to look around the store and get familiar where games are and then to do the good ol "Welcome to gamestop can I help you with anything" then bring them to the game they wanted. I never learned how to use the register. Never learned their POS system. Never learned anything about the phones they sell in store. Never learned how to do ANYTHING but walk people to their game. Was expected to work 13 hour shifts on black friday weekend with 1, 30 min break. Ive never ever been so untrained and so under appreciated as a employee in my life. To anyone even thinking about working at gamestop just DONT. My last and final shift I worked there was when a group of 4 executives from corporate came around to all the stores in my district and were asking all the employees questions. I was expected to walk them around the store and tell them about whats been going on. I wasnt able to answer a single question and they made me feel like a fucking idiot. I quit right after they left. Gamestop is a shitty employer with awful business practices. Hopefully they do die within the next 5 years.
Allowing an uninformed person to remain uninformed isn't the best idea. Rather than allowing the uninformed to remain uninformed to go spew his incorrect information will cause more people to be uninformed, because they may have been uninformed themselves, and feel like they are getting informed with correct information. This is actually a major problem when you expand it out past just this scenario.
They are very much like commission-based sales, because they always have to darn well ask if you want to pre-order something. Even if you don't want it they will guilt trip you to pre-order.
I worked at a gamestop for 1 day. They try to get you to sell shit people don't want. Basically all the training modules were just you reading ads on different games and content so you know what to sell.
I got a Xbox one 2TB Battlefield1 “Target exclusive” for Christmas a few years ago and when I went to a GameStop and they tried to up sell me I told them what I had (their BF1 edition only had 1TB) and he argued with me for a few minutes and eventually I just had to leave because he wouldn’t leave me alone or drop it! He kept pressing the issue... so annoying!
I worked at gamestop for ONE holiday season... their qualifications were literally "you like games? you want to work here?" ok cool". I had ZERO training... it was a terrible job which is why I never went back.
My GameStop story: I was went to buy a game the day it released. I wasn’t going to get it but I played a friend’s copy and it was fun. I asked for it and the guy told it was sold out and then went into a ten minute lecture about the necessity of pre-ordering and then asked me what future titles I would like to preorder. I told him no worries and went to leave. The guy next to him let out a heavy sigh and said, “actually we have like forty copies. I’ll sell it to you.”
Gamestop basically holds a gun to their head and FORCES them to try and sell everything. I was fired from Gamestop after 90 days of employment in 2004 because I didnt get enough preorders.
That's horrible and explains alot
vanburen20 what’s your friend code
Well I am happy that I've never been in any *Gamestop* before. Hope you are feeling much better for not working in Gamestop anymore *Untitle Nerd Netowrk*
Because it sounds like *Vanburen20* said *Horrible!*
Yea that sounds about right. The Gamestop way.
🤣🤣🤣 damn.
I’m an assistant store manager for GameStop and I’ll tell you this:
When my boss is around, I do things by the books, and yes, that means engaging with customer and bugging them. But the other 80% of the time I’m working at my store, when I’m alone or with my subordinates I rarely leave from behind the counter to bug people. I feel like the environment at my store is so much better and a lot of people seem so pleased after they make their purchases and leave.
The way I run my GameStop is:
1. I genuinely say what’s up to EVERY person that walks in
*seems legit*
I really feel bad you work there.
Can you please transfer to my store😂🙏
At my gamestop they ignore you until you're ready to checkout lol
They deserve a tip!
Lucky
They ignore me at my local store because they know i'm a lost cause already
Same here!
They ignore me too, they see I'm brown and think I'm broke lol
@@snozer6966 anyone who doesn't hate the same stuff as that guy is a paid shill apparently
Thanks for your comment we need more managers like you around here
@@vanburen20 retail is a soul destroying job at times(thankfully I have not worked in retail for years),I think alot of people in these jobs have something to prove when they disagree with a customer-they should really be employing people who know about new games and are into gaming or at least willing to keep up to date so this kind of scenario doesnt happen-I doubt gamestop were selling this game a day after release-the guy obviously had the info wrong and was not willing to question himself so he just tried to make out you were wrong......
Sounded like he was passive aggressive and didn't like that u proved him wrong
He doesn’t need an apology when he has over a years worth of Gamestop videos yet he still hates the place lol
Wish you were the manager at my local gamestop
I work at GameStop. We only ask you a few questions and that's it. In my opinion, that store is being pushed to get pre-orders but not like that. That's insane.
good luck at your store man, I used to be friends with the GM at my local Gamestop, but after he suddenly "quit" I stopped going there.

One time I went to gamestop to buy a Nintendo Switch and I went to the counter to redeem my preorder on March 4th, ONE DAY after it came out. I said to him, “Hey, I have a preorder for the Nintendo Switch, could I please have one?” He said, “Sir, I think you are a bit confused about that one, the console comes out on March 24th.” We got into a argument and I had to go to another GameStop 30mins away. smh
Did u show it to him? Cause if they scan your card or give them ur number they would've seen it right there
bigmanolo26 I did
I used to be a assistant manager at GameStop.
@@casey3685 its actually both. I got friends that work there.
@@andrewtaylor940 they should be dead by now.
I live in the UK but recently visited America, I went to 3 gamestops while I was there and the moment I walked through the door I had staff greet me and basically jump straight on me. It was only until they heard my British accent they dropped the whole pre-order thing. They really do know how to make you feel uncomfortable.
Customer is always right
Not at gamestop
You nailed it
vanburen20 nope customers are rude a lot and I thought you knew GameStop’s policy for sales and if an employee doesn’t sale a lot he or she gets fired
the customer isn't always right..
Customers are frequently wrong.
Theres a lot of shitty customers out there so this whole "The customer is always right" thing is bullshit!!
This is why they have no one in there store because they pissed them all off
In my opinion, as soon as you said you have a review copy should’ve been the end of the argument. I’ll give the employee the benefit of the doubt on the stuff before you said that as not many people had the game for Switch at the time (as it wasn’t out yet), but the moment you said that you got the game early from Blizzard for review purposes should’ve ended the exchange no questions asked
He kept on going and going..
Just sucks that when stuff like that happens

I'm an employee at GameStop, the training process for me was terrible. I was trained on certain things by my fellow employees but I ultimately ended up having to train myself. You don't NEED knowledge on video games, at All to be hired. They don't care if you only know of halo and you are trying to work in a GameStop. CAN YOU SELL? Is the only thing that matters. They aren't as terrible as they used to be about up selling. They have chilled a good amount about that.
@Starscream91 Women don't play video games, apparently. Don't be so dense.
From what he said, he did do that. Multiple times.
Yes. He wanted to argue. I totally agree. This isn't a big deal at all. Heck the kid could not know anything about review copies.

That’s how it works at any retail/food job unfortunately. As a (former) restaraunt manager of 3 years, we would get blamed for lack of sales and rowdy employees(even though we weren’t allowed to reprimand them..? Only the General Manager wanted to do that.)

You sure? I’ve heard EB games is just as bad. That being said, Gamestops here in Texas leave you alone and only ask once maybe twice if you need any help.
@BadAss Brad how many of them behave in the way so many gamestops do?
You just know that guy immediately checked the release date to make sure he was right.
Man, im a lucky bastard. At the GameStop I go to, the employees are very kind. Sure they ask me to pre-order stuff and buy extra controllers but they ask me once and if i say no then they stop.
I don't like GameStop either

I've shopped around at GameStop before; and I've had some approach me as I was browsing their merchandise. When they start asking me what I'm looking for; I just tell them "nothing specific; just looking to see what you have. If I find anything that interests me; I'll let you know." And every time; they left me alone after that. Probably because I basically made it clear that if they want me to buy something; they'll have a better chance if they leave me alone as I browse their merchandise.

Well that move was stupid. Thanks for the heads up

Great Rant!
Thanks for watching

Mine is decent enough. They never did anything vanburden20 was describing about gs.
It’s kinda sad when I know more about games than the GameStop employeys

Joker why do you care about a cap?
Very true Eric and its been that way for almost 2 decades. I stopped shopping with them for over a decade at this point and surprised they've lasted this long.
In Australia and Canada GameStop Is EB Games and it is way better there, when you go in they say hey can i help you and when you say no they say okay and you can just look and when you get a game they say that will be this price then you just leave no hassle
Not at our Gamestop's
@@vanburen20When I went to GameStop in Chicago I had the worst experience ever as soon as i walk in they say can I help you I say no and they say would you like to buy the would you be interested in buying the new 3ds I say no I already have a 3ds xl why would I get a 3ds? And then i grabbed a copy of Super Mario Odyssey for Nintendo switch and they said would you like to also buy a copy of bomber man for the Nintendo switch I said no and he continues to lecture me and 7 minutes I leave with my copy of Super Mario Odyssey
Yeah EB is awesome the workers are polite and have some real knowledge of what they're talking about. So lucky to have it here
Em in America EB games is Game Stop.
Could have just been like “No, Leave me alone please” and never had an incident
I fell bad for you my GameStop actually has smart employees
Must be nice
It is and the best part is they don’t push you to by things or keep asking you to pre order something

Erica Chishti just saying.... just saying
Hell I went to GameStop for the Mass Effect 2 and 3 midnight releases...... But not Andromeda. What garbage that was 😂
more confused people in this thread...
The special stuff u said they're forced to say that
That whole argument could have been avoided if you had just said 'no, I've already preordered it digitally' or something like that
I hate them too, sean.I went there to buy a New case for my Switch, and when I put it on the counter, the Worker Looked at the case, looked at ME, and rolled his eyes. And he talked to me like i Was BOTHERING HIM!! I can relate sean.
They are the worst..
Probably just some console fanboy that secretly wants you to SWITCH to PS4 or Xbox One
I had this happen to me twice so I totally understand

Love the techno on the Intro lol!
I believe that’s “good enough” by Cyndi Lauper?
I worked for GameStop for two years and in every transaction I was forced to do eight quotas. GPG, preorder, edge card, attachment, biogeniks, warranty, trades, and used
Ugh. The more I hear stories like this, the more GameStop looks like some sort of cult... 😑
L33TRedNinja yeah it creeps me out
You’re probably talking about a completely different thing, the cult doesn’t even come out until Saturday
@@Deltasquad382943 🤣🤣🤣
Heard quite a few story's where the employees can be written up or fired for selling New consoles instead of refurbished ones when the customers ask for new ones.
Did you preorder a meeting with a manager this time? 😂
I haven’t worked at GameStop but when I worked at JCP we were told to try and push sales, credit apps. I got tons of complaints but was actually congratulated by management because I got so many.
Your intro music sounds like a video game version of Taffy Butt from Bob's burgers lmao
Torque Jones that song itself is based on the song "good enough" by Cyndi Lauper.
Be funnier if a big fist fight broke out between Van and the GameStop employee 😆
Does anyone have that website link of the releases for the nintendo switch or no
Honestly, GAME in the UK is much better than GameStop. In game, the employees are helpful, and the stock of stuff is great

I've had a similar instance happen to me at a musical instrument store in South Africa, from a franchise called TOMs.

I stopped shopping at Gamestop because of this exact problem
At my GameStop in Germany the people are always really nice.
They don't try to sell me anything, only offering stuff I can buy additionally. If I say "no", they just say "alright, if you need anything then feel free to ask me." and then that's it most of the time until checkout.
Gamestop sucks hands down
I had a manager at Gamestop tell me that he had tried to reach me on my cell to remind me that they were doing a night time launch for Uncharted 4 when I was there the following day to pick up my preorder.
Yes, it is, because mcdonalds is fucking disgusting
No, but McDonald's corporate will do something about it, because in today's competitive market, all that's left is the experience. A bad experience reflects poorly on your brand.
the employees represent the company. you would know if you worked at a company before
When I was younger a GameStop employee told me madden 2010 would be the last madden ever, just to get me to preorder it. When I said no (I just don’t like football games) he said I was making a huge mistake because the game would be really rare.
He was probably stoned, like most GameStop employees
What GameStop was this? Mentor mall, astubula, Madison... etc?
This is a 8 minute video on how I didn't like the customer service of one person. When did UA-cam lose all of its creativity. Of yeah after Smosh became number one way back in the day
@Phillip Oliver Holtz yeah real creative. every channel has become starting beef with other companies or other people to get viewers, and objectifying women by using their breasts as clickbait for their videos.

I recently bought 2 systems. I don’t like buying games brand new just Incase I don’t like them. What other retailer has used games to be bought?
There like car salesmen!! Great vid??
Its unbelievable the experiences I've had in there..
Your just as petty as the uniformed for arguing with the dude, should have just taken the higher path and kept our mouth shut
What is that Nintendo release web?
Game stop hire people they know not true heart gamer that care about themselves
They need retraining or something
They want someone who will sell their stupid power ups. They don't give a crap about how passionate or knowledgeable you are about gaming and games.
They are very much like commission-based sales, because they always have to darn well ask if you want to pre-order something. Even if you don't want it they will guilt trip you to pre-order.
I don’t believe this story at all. And I work at gamestop.
The One And Only yeah i’m glad i’m not the only one who thought this sounded like BS
what happened to electronic boutique??
I worked at a gamestop for 1 day. They try to get you to sell shit people don't want. Basically all the training modules were just you reading ads on different games and content so you know what to sell.
I''m thankful the gamestop in my location has really chill employees. I wouldn't know what to do if I had an encounter like that.
I work at GameStop and we literally get a right up if we don’t hound customers it makes me feel horrible
