I used to love going to Toys ‘R’ Us back when I was a kid in the late 80’s early 90’s to buy NES games. You’d walk down a huge aisle filled with games. And you have to grab this slip of paper under the box art of the game you wanted and bring it to this game counter and they’d get you the game. So as long as there was a slip you knew you got one.

My GameStop scam story involves collecting steelbooks. I've managed to collect a decent steelbook collection by purchasing them as used games, then returning them back using a different non-steelbook box. For some reason, GameStop doesn't really keep track whether covers are steelbooks or normal.

But that sucks cause if people steal your debit card or scam you, you cant dispute to your bank and if they steal all of it you can never get your money back.
The other most common scam are lengthy car loans extending past 4 to 5 years max. That "low" payment of 299 a month for 72 to 96 months range isn't low when factoring in a greater amount of interest compared to a 36 month lease.
I would suggest starting podcast segments with Employees from other companies in the U.S. to give them a platform to explain their hardships while working for “X” Retailer. Branching out to that would be a good idea imo. Love the content! Be well.
Here is another customer scam: customers sometimes treat gamestop like a blockbuster. As a lot of people know gamestop gives their customers a 7 day return policy where they can return the game within 7 days and get a full refund. Sometimes what customers do is they beat the game within the 7 days and return it for the full refund and tell the worker that it was scratched or they didn't like the game play or simply they wanted something else instead. I highly recommend not doing this, and I know this may be far-fetched, but workers will remember you and if they realize how many games you have returned before the 7 day policy, they may prevent you from returning anymore games in the future.
My older sister worked at old navy and they pushed the credit card thing a ton too. She didn’t care to ask people and luckily didn’t get into too much trouble
Problem is, he'll get a load of made up stories that wouldn't make very good content, people will know they're not true. Maybe a few times with people he can trust.. But, eh, i fear the channel will fall apart.
Fanta, We need to have you give us a video about annoying daily routines that made no sense. You mentioned the printout you had to hand to customers, the relabeling of games, and resigning the store. What else did you do that felt pointless, such as did you have to create daily sales goals? was there any kind of weekly loss prevention paperwork, anything like that? Also, who cleans the store? How often did you vacuum, or wipe down counters? did you guys have a system to determine who was going to have to clean the nasty off old trade-ins?
I went into Gamestop today to buy some cheapo games for the Xbox 360 that had been sitting in the closet for years. My experience was surprisingly decent. I wasn't badgered at all, the manager just pointed towards the back corner where they had the 360 games and mentioned that they had a deal for 3
One of those lessons in life is....never get any kind of insurance or extended warranty on anything, that if it broke you couldn't just replace or do without. Its really only worth it for something like a car or house that would be catastrophic if it was lost.
Went to Gamestop today. They hate me because all I do is trade in for cash. Employee pulled the refurbished fee without telling or asking me. I noticed it before checking out. He told me, “Anything that’s a blu ray disc, that has ANY scratches will get a refurb charge.” It was GTA V for Xbox one. The falling and failing is real.
I walked into a game stop and was asked by an employee about signing up for there credit card but when I asked about the intrest rait she gave me a guilty green and put the pamphlet in my bag with what I bought
Credit card quotas are stupid. When I worked at a call center and we had a quota for cc’s. Instead of listening to see how you can help the client, you are just merely waiting for the moment to make your pitch.
I work in a theme park here in the UK. You could get some milage out of that if you're interested. We get a lot of entitled people, the occasional dumb kid, even park guests getting into full blown fist fights over children's rides. (no exaggeration)
Tales from retail: strangest customer questions. My most recent one was a customer asking me if we fill air compressors where I work. I say no, and he asks if I know where he could go to get it filled. I thought he was joking, but was dead serious.
God, this watch stumped me. It's no doubt an Invicta, part of the Pro Diver collection, but unless it's custom I can't narrow down the model or number. It's similar to a full gold version of the 13928.
I still remember trading in FIFA, even though the disc was scratched (ring around the disc meaning the game was unplayable). I didn't bother telling them and they accepted the trade. I felt soooo guilty because someone would've picked that game up, brought it home, and wouldn't have been able to play it so I told the guy that it didn't work. Didn't get much back on the trade-in but atleast I wasn't screwing the company AND the customer.
So GameStop allows any employee to alter orders at any point without manager authorization? Where I worked, we were constantly encouraged to sell warranties and memberships. The store as a whole had a goal of how many we should sell during a month, but nobody ever got in trouble if we couldn't get that extra money. I made that place thousands in non-product sales, but somehow lose $60 in 6 months and you're fired.
This sadly reminds me of my job at Toys R Us, especially the credit card thing. The company wanted us to push those credit cards so hard. I even was told off for not getting enough despite telling them I wasn't comfortable selling credit cards. I did a better job with the protection plans and the rewards cards (which were free unlike Gamestop's power up rewards card) because I could at least kind of see the practicality in both of those.
I worked at target and sometimes would get mad for not pushing those red cards. I honestly dunno why people at headquarters make dumb business decisions like high interest credit cards that no one wants.
I bought black ops 2 went to visit my mom and my sister knocked my xbox over and put the ring of death on the disk, so i went and bought a used one waited 2 days and "returned" the ringed blops and got extra store credit from the manager. Since then I've constantly had bad luck with any gamestop i go to lol preorders going missing or magically put on the normal preorders instead of collectors editions, stuff like that they gave me 28 bucks for my wii because i had a sticker no bigger than a dime on it while my cousin got 70 for his. The sticker was there so that i knew which one was mine
Definitely focus on movie theater stories get some good ones from fans like myself who've put in a couple years at a major chain location. I've got everything from ppl doing it to finding empty liqour bottles to slap fights over seats and employees walking out midshift all while getting screwed by the company who is in charge of the chain.
I remember last time I went to gamestop some new guy there I never seen was like my rewards card was expired and I knew it wasn't and he was trying to get me to pay 15 dollars -.-
1 scam I'd heard of at wal fart is people would use it to replace an item that they'd busted. Somebody I knew did it with ps3 accessories. if a controller broke he'd buy the same model at wal fart, put the broken 1 in the box n return that n keep the new 1. New controller free basically.
It’s actually more than scratch protection, the GPG covers ALL DAMAGE. My girlfriend smashed my switch games with a hammer $240 worth of games I got replaced for $12
One time I went to GameStop to get Red Dead Redemption 2. The worker claimed I had a pre order that I forgotten about and paid only 5 cents for red dead 2. He couldn't tell me which game and it was from several years ago. Made no sense. There's a slim chance I pre-ordered a game full price and didn't come pick it up. Idk what Happened.
the stick without the carrot is a perfect analogy. id tell ppl all the time when i worked there that theres literally zero incentive besides keeping the shitty job . doing them the favor firing em honestly .
Another problem with the credit card was that it couldn’t be paid in store and in order to pay it over the phone instead of a mail in check, had a fee to do so I’m glad I never did it while I was there
I once bought an used ps3 from gamestop after the release of Battlefield 4 and the console was acting up (only to find out it was mainly the game buggy nature). so i took the console back when my brother sold me his for $75 whereas i returned and receive all $245 from the gamestop, emptying out their registers.
I've heard tales of people getting 3.0 flash drives to work but what you need to make sure is that the classic can power the USB drive. I had two of the same models but different sizes. The classic could power the 32 gig but not the 128 gig. Just something to keep in mind.
As much as it sounds like Gamestop's credit card sucks, it's definitely not in your best interest credit-wise to completely close it out. If you care about your credit score and are looking to get a mortgage or vehicle loan (or any other sort of large loan) in the foreseeable future, keeping an older line of credit open is definitely beneficial. All you have to do is make a small purchase on the card every 6 months or so and immediately pay off the balance to avoid paying any interest.
I've got some tales from my retail experience working at BJ's, a bulk goods store like Sam's club, that you could make a video out of. Fun fact: The company was named after the original owner's daughter, so she must have had them dsl. My favorite story about how bad the store I worked at is managed is the time my coworkers and I had to wait 6 months for a steak dinner, that we busted our asses to earn.
The only reward for getting your goals met is to keep your job and hours. They demand 5 preorders and 5 card subscriptions per day, which is fucking impossible.
Look guys, 2 people buy games with the protection plan, one of you break their game in half and you give one half to the other person. Then the two of you go use your protection plan thing at GameStop and then you both game a new game! Now you have 3 games and you can give 1 to a friend and you can all play together. I did this a shit ton when I actually went to GameStop
Never pre-order from GameStop. They will sell your copy to someone else without a second thought. Never buy “new” games from GameStop. There is a 90% chance that an employee took that copy home and played it.
Gamestop is about to implement an incentive program for trades. Key holders will now be getting a certain percentage added to their paycheck based on weekly trade goals. For instance... if a store hits 90 percent of their trade goal, SGAs will each get 2.5 percent of that added to their paycheck. (Its something like 5 percent for ASLs and 10 percent for managers or something.) The more you exceed your goal, the higher the percentage. I know for SGAs, if you exceed your goal by 250% you get 50 some percent. I think this is gamestop moving in the right direction for employees.
I live in the UK, I work specialist retail. I work in a very small bookshop on my own, my main job is to catalogue the books on a computer running the shop is secondary. I really find your stories interesting because I have a really weird but nice boss, however I do sometimes get really weird customers some customers treat me like a God if I know what they are looking for but there are a lot of books I can't know them all and where they all are and when I don't people treat me like garbage and talk trash about me in the shop and it's tiny so I can hear everything and they surely know that but still do. We also have boxes of 50p books outside on the street that people can buy it's a small village so stealing isn't a huge problem but some idiots bring one of the books in and they ask for a discount on the 50p books! It's ridiculous, but I really love your content and listen to it even at work even though I am not allowed any sounds but you're entertaining and when I can get a full time job I'll join the patreon :) keep up the good stuff
when i preorder games at gamestop i always pay in cash and not on my card because that way they cant screw me over and im not paying for that pro membership anymore
Go about the high turnover rate at Walmart. About how everyone comes and goes. About how you trained the newbies and other stories you’ve heard from people who’ve worked there for decades.
I think when you use an idea from the comments, it'd be awesome to give them a little shout out as a little thank you for the suggestion. make them feel special and super appreciated 😊
I think Target is fine because they offer a debit card also. I use it all the time and saving 5 percent on that new game system I wanted or TV I just bought was great. Instead of the credit card, it just links with your bank account and only allows you to spend what you have in your bank account.
I know that GameStop has their “GameStop Cares” and asks for feedback on their receipts. How about do a video about that? Tales from Retail: GameStop Feedback System
Recently, I went to my local Gamestop because I had some spare money so I figured I'd buy a few games. Picked out Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 + 2 (thanks Capcom for only including the first one on the cartridge, had to buy the second one separately because it was used) and Sega Genesis Classics for my Switch. Walked to the counter to pay, guy rings me up (I can tell he's new, never seen him before and I frequent this Gamestop). As I'm watching the screen on the card reader thing, I saw that he put the GPG on my games without asking (this would've added an extra $8 to my purchase). He only offhandedly mentions them when telling me the total, and I asked for the GPGs to be removed. Of course, I was polite about it, and he did, but that irked me a lot. Nobody's ever done that to me before, and if someone were to miss that, they'd be charged extra for something useless. I guess this new guy wanted to meet his quota so badly, he tried to pull a fast one on me. Little bonus: when I asked him if the code for MMX Legacy Collection 2 would be guaranteed to work (before I remembered Gamestop always claims used codes are not guaranteed to work) they gave me such a non-answer. He told me, "Yeah, if it hasn't been claimed, then it should work." Okay buddy, that's not really what the answer I was looking for but okay.

How about tales from Wal-Mart Bathrooms. Love your Channel thanks for the content and your knowledge.
Went to Gamestop today. They hate me because all I do is trade in for cash. Employee pulled the refurbished fee without telling or asking me. I noticed it before checking out. He told me, “Anything that’s a blu ray disc, that has ANY scratches will get a refurb charge.”
It was GTA V for Xbox one.
The falling and failing is real.
Hey, Fanta! How about a video on the most useless or worst merchandise at Gamestop, if you can remember? I mean non-gaming items the store would sell.
I got a Wii about 8-9 years ago (USED) and this thing has been chugging along since we got it
Employees at our local GS would check the inventory and trade in any 'extra' copies for cash. A couple of guys made around 25k doing this.
I walked into a game stop and was asked by an employee about signing up for there credit card but when I asked about the intrest rait she gave me a guilty green and put the pamphlet in my bag with what I bought
Talk about angry/obscene phone calls you had while working
Some ideas:
Fall of the golden age
Some cinema stories from Adam
Maybe some more movie reviews like the Deadpool 2 one or game impression or reviews
My Balls I thought they did a video on the fall of the golden age already.
They did two Golden Age videos, but they never explicitly covered the fall of it.
I'd like to see that video on altering the PS classic since I've heard the games included are halfway hinky.
Build a raspberry pi. They'll run everything up to PlayStation on them.
Tales From Retail idea (Wal-Mart edition): absolute favorite memories from working there
So GameStop allows any employee to alter orders at any point without manager authorization?
You should do a video called diary of an alcoholic where you discuss all the beers you’ve drank over the year
Definitely focus on movie theater stories get some good ones from fans like myself who've put in a couple years at a major chain location.
Another problem with the credit card was that it couldn’t be paid in store and in order to pay it over the phone instead of a mail in check, had a fee to do so
I’m glad I never did it while I was there
I gotta imagine that goodwill and stuff is a nightmare
I once bought an used ps3 from gamestop after the release of Battlefield 4 and the console was acting up (only to find out it was mainly the game buggy nature). so i took the console back when my brother sold me his for $75 whereas i returned and receive all $245 from the gamestop, emptying out their registers.
i'd like to see the "is the playstation classic worth it" video
i like it when you do this by yourself.
Headset wearer here, reporting that between 09:35 and 09:50, the audio was echoing a little bit
Tales from retail: weird customers from Walmart
Tales from retail: working in other Walmart departments
I've heard tales of people getting 3.0 flash drives to work but what you need to make sure is that the classic can power the USB drive. I had two of the same models but different sizes. The classic could power the 32 gig but not the 128 gig. Just something to keep in mind.
Make videos where the whole video is you tasting and describing drinks for 30 minutes
I actually do that on Patreon haha
My dog chewed up a DS game one time. A gpg would've helped in that case.
I have a PS2 (the fat one) and it still works and I doubt that I would ever sell it anytime soon. My dad bought it for Christmas when it came out btw
Just start brewing your own beer already God! :D
Honestly, if I somehow make it on here, I'll use my extra free time to start brewing
Some chick tried to be slick and sign me up for a disc warranty by default, told her to take it out immediately.
The only reward for getting your goals met is to keep your job and hours. They demand 5 preorders and 5 card subscriptions per day, which is fucking impossible.
Kohl’s will literally take someone’s 5 year old shoes for return. Not kidding.
Alexander Cabrera no no you didn’t.
bombfirst157 yes yes I did.
Never pre-order from GameStop. They will sell your copy to someone else without a second thought. Never buy “new” games from GameStop. There is a 90% chance that an employee took that copy home and played it.
How can an employee "slip" a $20 Power Up rewards subs to a transaction and not have the customer clean their clock ?
@stockart whiteman What human shopping at "Gamestop" misses a $20 price difference ???......😵
9:34 why did the audio change so drastically?
The reason I left gamestop, no benefits from hitting or surpassing goals. Went to another job where I actually got comission.
The People of Walmart videos were entertaining. Do something similar to that and feature more people other than Eric and that would be a golden video.
You could do a series called favorite games from childhood where you talk about your favorite games from your childhood.
If you or any of your friends ever worked at a bank, you could do a bank episode of tales from retail
I think when you use an idea from the comments, it'd be awesome to give them a little shout out as a little thank you for the suggestion. make them feel special and super appreciated 😊
I usually do but forgot to note who suggested this, was it you?
It wasn’t me, but just thought it’d be good viewer engagement
Tales from retail live from walmart would be great
Working for Gamestop sucked 15 years ago. I cant imagine how terrible it is now.
Weirdest or best/most fun GameStop employee you worked with.... or do a Walmart vs GameStop work environment video!!
Or GameStop vs Walmart video can be employees down to company morals and ethics or down to pay or which one had the best costumers or least toxic😂
Tales from retail: departments of Walmart and what it was like.
I think Target is fine because they offer a debit card also. I use it all the time and saving 5 percent on that new game system I wanted or TV I just bought was great.
Instead of the credit card, it just links with your bank account and only allows you to spend what you have in your bank account.
Glad ive never had an experience like this at gamestop I feel for all the people they scam
Don't forget the OTG cable hack for the PSC
I know that GameStop has their “GameStop Cares” and asks for feedback on their receipts. How about do a video about that?
Tales from Retail: GameStop Feedback System
They dont care because ive been giving negative reviews for 20 years and the employee never got fired.
