It's not the employees fault, it's all pressure from upper management. They're just doing what their told. I've heard stories where employees get scolded if they don't upsell at every opportunity, and scolded when a customer complains about being upsold to. That being said, that is no excuse for the way Gamestop is going.
As a gamestop key holder (leaving pretty soon WOOOOOH) this is really how it is lol. Upper management ridiculously scolds us and I try to avoid up selling ridiculously like that, for example I would ask if people wanted to pre-order games, protection on there things etc, ONCE. Then my boss is standing like behind me or comes outta the back room and goes tf was that? I’m like what do you mean? Why didn’t you push more for the things? Why’d you only offer it once? I can’t tell you how bothersome it is to work at a gamestop.
VikingSpaceMeow When I go there, I try very hard to remain nice when I'm being pressured, because I know they're just told to do that, not something they actually want to do. And for some reason everytime I go there, it gets busy, and there's ALWAYS only a single worker running the entire store....
Yea u lose hours if you dont get a certain amount of preorders etc this is how bestbuy works with credit cards they dont flat out say ur hours will be cut but essentially thats what they do
Wow i guess im lucky. The people at my gamestop are awesome. They are fast, nice and never try to get you to pre order or buy extra crap unless you ask. It took me like 3 minutes to get my switch. I asked for one he got it from the back, i payed and left. Thats it
Honestly I don't care that much to get stuff on day 1 that I really would have left the shop and bought my stuff somewhere else also online. Even if that would mean I have to pay more and to wait longer. But it's not worth to ruin my nerves and time, just because I mightz have wanted the stuff on day 1.
Right, but not for the sake to piss off customers. But IMHO if vanburen goes back they have won. So I get his message, but I say he should satay away fron now on. Because I would not watch another of his "GameStop" videos, as it is clear what he he will talk about, that he his angrs and disappointed, which I understand. I would not buy there anything anymore. And believe me, we don't have tons of shops in myt own. But if a shop pisses me off, for whatever reason I never ever buy anything there anymore.
I once went to GameStop to get super Mario maker, they kept on trying to sell me a PS3 that someone used before, I looked at it wondering how much they would have sold it for, they sold it for the price it costed brand new, but 10 dollars cheaper, and it had multiple scratches and dents in it
Chello Chamber never understood why people have to make up shit like this lmao, you are buying a Nintendo game why the fuck would they ask you about a ps3? Seriously anyone who believes this is stupid
hearing this makes me feel guilty, my mom bought the switch for my family for christmas and she got an extra pro controller, and a bag to carry it in she got played
Me: Hi I would like to buy an Xbox One game. Employee: Ok what game? Me: Farming Sim 2019 Employee: Would you like a protection plan? Me: No. Employee: Would you like to buy a DLC? Me: No. Employee: Would you like an extended warranty? Me: No. Employee: Would you like a protection plan? Me: No. Employee: Would you like to join the Power Up Rewards Club? Me: No! Employee: Would you like to buy these limited edition headphones? Me: NO DUDE I JUST WANT THE GAME!!! Employee: Would you like somebody else to check you out? Me:Yes! New Employee: Would you like a DLC? Me: YOU KNOW WHAT?!? IM BUYING IT ONLINE!!!
That reason why don't shop at Gamestop all the questions they ask you i shop at GameXchange in Paris Texas they never ask anything like siging up for Rewards nothing plus they give you more money than gamestop i got $30 20 games
I'm from Brazil and I was in America a few months ago and I had to tell the guy at the store that there aren't GameStops in Brazil and that I wasn't interested in their rewards card. I bought a controller and two games for my PS4. That's all I ever wanted LMAO
Renolith kinda right ....Basically Their circle of life policy is that there being forced to lie to sell shit told to lie to customers and open the new games sell as pre owned because they make more money or lie about having the game new in stock and push the used games on people lie about games on preorder lie what they get or what's in the games, forced to push preorders at least 10 pre orders a day sell power up rewards pro cards or the workers at to store get in trouble wrote up and fired
I was a shift lead at GameStop for about a year and our customers would always complain about our sales pitches. What most people don’t understand is that that is the job. Upper management gets SO pissed when employees aren’t reaching sales goals. Many employees are fired regularly for simply not pitching all the attachments with EVERY SINGLE transaction. Believe me I HATED the pitches. I just wanted to bullshit about video games and create close relationships with customers but would get scolded when I wouldn’t pitch the worthless GPG’s (video game insurance) and Pro memberships. It’s not a fun place to work. If you want to work video game retail work at a smaller company where the Agenda is more about constructing a better PR instead of fattening up the wallet.
@@vanburen20 it's theses so called gamers that give gamestop a bad name. Turn your internet off and get rid of your stuff if you want to cry about it. It's all about the location of the store if it's in a bad spot well the store will be shit. But if it's in a good spot then it will pretty much be a good store.
My experience after I put it on hold Worker: Hello! Me: Hello, I recently put a switch on hold, my name is “.....” Worker: Ok I found you... let me pull up your account... The Nintendo switch? Me: yes Worker: ok, let me go in the back and get it for you.... Your total is $321.70 Me: Scans phone for Apple Pay. Worker: Hands switch to me. Thanks, have a great day! That’s why I still go to my local GameStop
Pokéstir same when I got mine, besides the usual ‘do you want to add a warranty / we recommend a screen protector’ line that they give you win any console purchase, never had any problems with the local GameStop’s here lol
Pokéstir I work there and I can 100% tell you that that's exactly what we do. Switch? Yup lemme get it for you! Apple pay? Sweet just scan here have a nice day!
I worked at Gamestop before, a long time ago. It's basically a 'you get to keep your job' commission. They say they changed the program, but I don't believe it for a second.
Gamestop isn’t commission based i was a store manager for over a year. Corporate wanted us to sell like we were so they wanted us to sell these things as “bundles” even though it’s illegal to do so and the company caught a lot of flack for it. This was one of the many reasons I had put my two weeks in a couple months ago. I couldn’t sell this way or have my employees sell it like that. When you said you didn’t have any money that’s a clear indication to a normal sales person that you’re not looking to purchase anything else. He should just all in one explained what they have for future reference and got you on your way. The company came down super hard on us at this time to sell these things with a bunch of add ons. Trust me a lot of employees would love to get you in and out its just a lack of training and caring on corporates part.
Yea I no longer want to shop there, because upper management is a bunch of old guys who don't give a shit about their employees or really the customer unless it gets them bad publicity. You should check out the recent reddit post from a gamestop employee who's district manager told him he can't take off for Thanksgiving/Black Friday, because his wife is being induced that day and the district manager apparently told him he has to work or it will be considered job abandonment. This is more then likely coming from the regional manager coming down hard on the district managers. I know first hand my regional manager would cuss out my district manager who was a really good, genuine person, and she turned into a shell of herself because of those jerk offs.

When I worked there as a secondary income to make ends meet, they would cut my hours because I didn’t sell one more power up or get on more preorder. Fuck them. Their stock is dropping and they are starting to go in panic mode. They destroyed Think Geek!

Try buying, selling or trading in www.ontraga.com/ , better than gamestop, ebay or amazon, faster, safer and more effective....That website is the future of gaming not gamestop
vanburen20 You're right about that, I definitely need another job. I hate forcing the upsell and there's zero incentive to upsell...at all! Minus the fact that they threaten to fire you if you don't have enough of the numbers they want to see. That's literally Gamestop as of 1/08/2018. Upsell or no job. And most employees hate being forced to do it. Thanks for getting back to me! Definitely subbed to you!
My GameStop has really cool people. I don't go there as much now, but I remember my Switch had a defective left joycon. I lost my receipt but they swapped my joycon without question.
Juan S rare. They're usually pretty strict when it comes to receipts. What happened(most likely) is they knew you well enough and remembered you did buy it there and was able to look up the transaction and reprint the receipt. I can promise that would must likely not happen again.
Thx for the advice because when I went to gamestop the other day to get Pokemon Lets go Eevee the worker kept asking me If I wanted to get Nintendo rewards membership and stuff like damage protection for the game I just kept saying no. I think that he was trying to keep doing this because Im only 16 and I apparently am stupid which is what gamestop thinks of people under the age of 18
Spectral Robot I tried to get lets go Eevee and the guy told be that, that game was too easy and I should get something else and took forever to get me a copy and I just got mad and left.
I’m only 11 and I went to the GameStop at my mall and I was getting a ps4 10 dollar gift card and my parents were at the playground watching my little siblings and I did not want to spend to much but I wanted a game called ninja storm 4 but like I said did want to spend too much and this was all my money from chores and selling stuff and college football games at my grandparents house . And while I was buying it he said you sure you don’t want a 50 ,20 or 25 dollar gift card and talked for like 2 minutes
I can say I've never had a bad experience with the two Gamestop's in my area. But then again I've been going to them for well over a decade now. I've seen them try and pull this kind of stuff on the people who aren't common, the ones you never really see again. You want to upsell to people who aren't aware, who can be convinced into thinking they need something that in all reality, they don't. And that's most likely why I've never had this kind of experience with my Gamestop's, I've been going there longer than even most managers have worked there. I'm the one that goes in, sees a new guy, walks over and introduces myself because I am there quite often.
tmiddlechild Im in the same position and if i see a new employee and they start to try to sell me everything in the store i make my first impression on them very clear. Its as simple as this i come in here often and i dont need or want anything that your trying to sell me unless im asking for something specific. Unless i ask for something dont try to sell me something like a guide or insurance or an upgraded version of what im trying to buy. Of course when im doing these things im being nice about it im not some mean guy thats rude i will do it in a friendly fashion and then i will mention to the employee that when you see me walk in the store you should no that im coming in for something specific and that you shouldn't waste your breath on trying to sell me anything else. Funny thing about all that stuff is they appreciate me being straight up and forward about it because apparently they dont like wasting their breath saying all that junk when they know your just ignoring them a d saying no to them constantly. In other words I've not really ever had an incident with my local gamestop's.
I'm the same way. The only time you'll see me there is if I can't find a game at a cheaper price on Ebay (which is almost never) or if I'm feeling spontaneous and don't feel like waiting on shipping, etc.
Go there about at least once or twice each much to trade in games and get some (unless I can't find it for a cheap price then I just go to JJGames.com and get an game there)
I was unfortunate to have to get my switch at a Gamestop as well. I even got the bundle since they were so sold out. What makes me more mad is when they try to sell you a "new" game and then proceed to hand you the shelf copy that's already been opened. If the plastic wrap is gone, its not new.
my gamestop is perfectly fine when the manager is working at the front desk, she is quick and fast and doesn’t try to force you to buy something, but sometimes there is this middle aged man who is just like what you explained in this video.
“I’m never going into another GameStop ever again!” *Slow week on videos one month later* “Guys I went back to GameStop and I will never go there again!” Repeat-
Many many purchases ago, I joined some gamestop silver membership ( or something like that) where I got this silver card (all free) but still there has been nothing I have gotten from them as in discounts or special preorder bonus or anything for being a member. They only use it to track my purchases and push similar games to me through email. And they now know I am a playstation 3 and 4 owner.. and a switch owner,.. so I am getting pushed games for these 3 systems all the time. - and every time I buy something, pay with my credit card, my membership pops up on their register and they push something again, even after I’ve paid!.. - so now I go with cash in hand, purchase that one game I want and say no to everything else,.. and refuse to show my membership card ( because I have already thrown it away) - by that time they actually “only need my phone number” to register my purchase.,.. it’s a forever hassle!!
So why even bother then? I understand me paying gives me extra perks.. so why have a free membership that gives nothing? It´s just dumb,.. so I don´t need nor want it.
It's not 15 a month it's 15 a year and if you got the silver card you were getting the discounts and it still could have been free if you bought enough games for the discount to cover the cost
Also the free membership gives you points that you can go online and use for coupons it also tracks if you have preorders there so it is easier to look you up
From a GameStop employee we have two memberships, Pro and Elite Pro and both gives you game informer for a year. Pro gives you extra 10% trade in one games and 10% off of pre owned games NOTHING on new games along with the points system as well, you earn 20 points for every dollar you spend. Elite pro you get two day shipping and 20% on trade ins and 20% off of pre owned games. Let me retell you that you literally get NOTHING off of NEW games one more time just to make sure. The whole point system is a Con and it says it's rewarding you but i mean when you can go to Best Buy you get everything and more, the only reason to go to gamestop is if you have games that are not brand new or are brand new that you want to trade in. Only reason. GameStop is a joke and that's coming from and employee there. Crazy how they take a used game that you just paid 64$ for give you 24$ with elite pro membership that you paid 30$ for then turn around and sell the game for 54.99$. Absolutely nuts to do something like that, GameStop is and always be a con artist. I tell people the truth about it and if i get fired for it at least i know that i go out telling the truth and not lying to customers and for all the sales shit if we don't reach a "quotta" we get into trouble and then after so long we get fired so the guy behind the counter is just honestly trying to keep his job.
I normally don't shop at GameStop but I regret buying the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy over there. Both Walmart and GameStop were selling it at $39.99 at launch. I honestly thought it didn't matter where I buy it. However, the cashier at GameStop reminded me that I haven't renewed my rewards card in years, which means that if I wanted to by the N Sane Trilogy at $39.99, I would have to renew my rewards card. So that's an extra $12.00 added on to the transaction. To top it all off, I can't return it for my full money back. Don't get me wrong, the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy is a good game, but I was trying to refund it so that I can buy it at Walmart for the same price (minus the rewards card renewal price)
I was fucked, I already passed Walmart after going home from work. It would be a waste of gas going there. So you worked at GameStop? Well I feel your pain. I wish they didn't enforce sales. I worked at a retail store that enforced sales, which is stupid because it's not like I get any commission for it. Like jeez! Just let me casually work at that job while I'm still in school! (Bitch ass CEO of [Insert retail store of your choice])
You definitely did not have to renew you card. Obviously you wouldn't be able to get your money back for your renewal. Lastly the only reason you couldnt return a game for full value is if you opened it. They are a business. They cant just let people go home and open a game, try it and decide they dont like it then return it for full value as a new game.
@@COMBAT4TRUTH Happened to me yesterday and I was not happy about it. I brought Forza Horizon 4 and they gave me a cheap case and I asked her can you get me real one case. She uses pre owner Forza Horizon 4 give to me even its brand new game for $39.99. Its waste my time to go GameStop. That why I decided to order target and best buy.
Exactly. Which is why if they take my "new" game and out if a drawer and put it into that display case with sticker on it that says "new". I tell them I don't want it. It is NOT new if it is not sealed. for all I know that could be and old as game and you just slapped a "new" sticker on the case. I not paying new price for a used unsealed game. Period.
Sadly, you don’t get commission at gamestop. They always have to ask cause managers could legit fire you if you don’t get those extra things like protection, a rewards card, or pre-orders. What’s even more sad is you don’t start seeing any “real” money until you get a manager status role (assistant manager or the store manager) sadly, the sga (senior guest advisors) get it rough. They have to bother you with all that stuff cause if not, they lose their jobs quick
Shiab Rahman they pulled similar crap with me. They asked if i wanted a protection plan for my game. I said no and the lady added it anyways. Luckily i caught it in time before i paid. They’re super shady with stuff like that. I hardly go to GameStop anymore.
I bought my Nintendo switch 4 days ago and the guy pulled the same stunt, was trying to have a little conversation with him and he wasn’t even try to talk to me. He pulls out the switch bundle and ask me the same questions without the straps smh. I thought my friends were joking when they say they do this.
Hi, I work at GameStop in Australia, it’s called ebgames, basically an Australian version of you GameStop, And yes our bosses encourage to ask you guys to buy a few things, but under no circumstance should we harass employees as such has happened with you
EB games in Ontario i have never experienced this off hand. But Rona INC is pushing this kind of sales crap. Asking if they have all those add on items and such
bowser jr 9848 then you tell them what you want, not what they, the upper people want.if you don't want it,say no thanks.i don't let people push anything on me.i don't work that way.
My gamestop does that... "Do you want a GameStop membership" "do you wanna subscribe to our magazine" after standing on this long asz line.. I wanna go HOME!
I’ve never had a bad experience at game stop even when they ask me to preorder something it reminded to ask for a preorder of smash for switch (they weren’t selling preorders)
I stopped shopping at GameStop when the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS3 and 360 came out. Long story short preordered a LE Copy for PS3, had a receipt, went to pick it up, and they wanted to give me an Xbox copy. Kept saying that’s what i preordered even though I had the receipt. They canceled my preorder and told me good luck finding a copy of it on PS3.
Same happened to me when I pre-ordered dragon ball fighterZ. I clearly had a ps4 version on the receipt but they said I had reserved the Xbox version so I got screwed out of my steelbook case which sucks because that's why I pre-ordered it
When I went to gamestop to buy my switch the cashier was questioning why I was buying a switch, and talking to me with a smuck face and he was like "ok" in a sarcastic voice. It really irritated me. A little y of GameStop employees act like they are the best around
I draw the line at that shit......I know they are doing their job, Gamestop is a business, so I politely decline all of their bullshit nickel and dime ploys. To offer gamers.....many of whom are broke kids with unmolested credit, a card with 28% APR, is criminal.
I order all my games from all my systems on Amazon! Never had a problem and 1-2 times if i had s problem they fixed it ASAP! GameStop sucks so bad. I wished EB games where still around
I hate GameStop employees. One time I went to pay for a pre-order I had and they wanted me to sign up for their rewards program or newsletter (or something like that) and I told them I just wanted to pay for my pre-order. The employee then proceeded to tell me all the perks it came with and ended it with "You'd pretty much have to be suicidal to not have it" ._. Like what even
Dude, I have Elite Pro. You get 20% off on anything preowned (which 80% is new, just can’t sell at new price). 3 times the points when buy new games and products. Then you can go their reward program and get a $5 gift card for 5000 points, and they have higher levels. If you get 30000 points, you can renew your reward card and a year of gameinformer without paying a dime. I was on the regular pro program and I paid once and renewed by using my points. I got elite pro which is $30 a year in February and was able to renew it for next year by April.
My local game shop just tells us what the price is then we pay then they just say if we joined there loyalty program (takes about 15 secs) and then we buy the game and leave
We have ebgames in australia, we have 5 nice people working at the store, a cashier man that scans and gives you the receit in 5 seconds, a lady that is a gamer girl she is really nice and helps kid give you as much information and doesn't get mad, a manager that cleans his own store and no janitors hired. another nerd/good that knows everything about games and he even tells you about everything about it and another girl that is a equipment savvy.
Yea they even give discount when the games you trade for cash are damaged, of course they don’t have the same price as a new game when they’re in good condition though, it’s been opened, I love eb games
This is so true. I picked up a Nintendo Switch at my local GameStop on Black Friday and the store was packed. The manager was walking through the line trying to up-sell everyone on like a shirt or an accessory as they were waiting in line. As my turn came, the lady offered me the $30.00 1-year GameStop warranty and said that sometimes the tablet can get dead pixels (which I know isn’t a problem anymore as Nintendo has worked this issue out). I declined and she kept insisting over and over for me to get their dedicated warranty. Good thing I’m in sales too so I have no problem telling her ‘Mam, I decline your warranty, I’d just like the Mario Kart Deluxe Bundle, my included $50 GameStop gift card for Odyssey, and a travel case, thank you very much!’. Though, I rarely shop at GameStop, I can’t say for certain they do this all the time to my knowledge. They probably just took advantage of the opportunity and tried to drive sales. That’s understandable. Great day for me though.
I guess I must be one of the lucky ones, my GameStop has always been super nice to me. They ask me once if I want anything else, I say no and then that’s it.
Gamestop employees do not work om commission but they do have sales numbers to meet and are told to push upsales and preorders or face writeups even terminafion if numbers aren't met
I’m calling bs. Over exaggerating, for views. None of my GameStop’s ever ask for “Wanna but extra wrist straps?” They clearly know they came w wrist straps
vanburen20 evidently not because I work at gamestop and you people never ever ever ever stop coming in to the store because the truth is that your laziness and lack of foresight trumps your need for a good customer experience. Otherwise you’d have purchased online months in advance like a sensible consumer in the year 2018. You all say the same stuff about boycotting and gamestop being terrible and losing you as a customer and you all come right back time after time. Save it.
To answer your question about commissions, here's my experience as a former Game Advisor (fancy way of saying store pawn): no, we never got commissions. Of course, this was 6-7 years ago, so I have no idea what it's like now. Basically, it was all about the Power Up Rewards Card numbers; you had to sell those at ANY cost. If you didn't, your hours got cut drastically. Around the time of Madden 2015, I was getting close to 30+ hours every couple weeks, which was fine since I was in college. By the time Halo 4 came around, I would go entire weeks without working. The shifts I did get were cut in half when I clocked in. The only other shift I got was from 5:30 to 11 AM on Black Friday so the boss didn't have to come in early. I quit in December of that year, I had had enough. They said my hours would have picked up for the holiday season, but afterwards it would have gone back down to nothing. That's the punishment you got for NOT being forceful and playing hardball, as I would learn. The employee who never got hours cut was the lone female co-worker who was moderately attractive... you do the math. Most employees don't WANT to do what you experienced, but because of the company culture and what is expected of them to keep their job, they must do it. Every store is different, a lot of it depends on who your Manager/District Manager is. There's a lot more I could say, but don't take the actions of the workers personally, GameStop as a company and their policies are to blame. The higher ups clearly haven't cared for a long time.
I use to work at Best Buy (in the gaming section of course) for one Christmas season.... and though they did push us to sell the protection plan I never once tried to push people into getting something that they didn't want. The people who know the in's and out's of gaming is one thing... pushy sales is just annoying them. It's the people who come in and don't know anything about gaming (the parents, grandparents, partners, etc) and just want to get a gift for somebody and people try to leech off of them to get every dollar they can. Then at the end of the day they leave not even getting what they want, or with a lot of useless crap extra. I was never the best salesman in the store but I always made sure all of my customers went home with what they wanted and happy. Funny thing is that when I took the job at Best Buy I was offered a spot at EB Games (GameStop in Canada) at the same time. So glad I chose the way I did.
I'm never going inside another GameStop ever again...this is border line harassment!
ua-cam.com/video/0fHHl1aJPko/v-deo.html
Why did they do that to u? They never do that to me they don’t hurrass me at all that’s wrong
vanburen20 they should have just left u alone that’s wrong
So true game stop definitely does that just let me get my shit in go
I got my ps4 at Walmart and I got my warranty from sony
They do get commission
GameStop in a couple of years will turn into blockbuster
they were wll aware of that and said they dont have a problem being a kiosc in malls
the GameStop by my house just closed down
Soon there will be signs saying 70% off everything
Allen A which actually means 5% off because everything is overpriced at GameStop in the first place
Afro Mamba That is very true , I went in there one time rude ass pushy employees . Upsell upsell
It's not the employees fault, it's all pressure from upper management. They're just doing what their told. I'm lucky too
Same. I got a roblox card and the roblox card actually works :P.
Ben Papinchak, they are forced to up sell and offer you a bunch of useless shit
Ben Papinchak same here
me two
Would you like to join our power up rewards membership
Heck no lol
Yes😂
That shit is a joke
In all the years of owning this, I've never gotten any rewards, am I missing something?
vanburen20 fe
That employee would just make me not want to get the switch anymore with all that talking .. lmaoo
I know it's horrible
Honestly I don't care that much to get stuff on day 1 that I really would have left the shop and bought my stuff somewhere else also online. Even if that would mean I have to pay more and to wait longer. But it's not worth to ruin my nerves and time, just because I mightz have wanted the stuff on day 1.
Its Sharlele its the employees job to upsell as much as they can moron. If they dont they Get fired....
deathshade777 I understand because i work at a theater and they make us sell membership cards and upsell food so yea

But unfortunately they are trained this way to keep their job :/
+ProWrestling&PokemonFan 486 it's a darn shame
I once went to GameStop to get super Mario maker, they kept on trying to sell me a PS3 that someone used before, I looked at it wondering how much they would have sold it for, they sold it for the price it costed brand new, but 10 dollars cheaper, and it had multiple scratches and dents in it
I was buying pokemon alpha sapphire at gamestop one time and the guy asked did I want to pay extra for warranty on the cartridge 😂
Chello Chamber never understood why people have to make up shit like this lmao, you are buying a Nintendo game why the fuck would they ask you about a ps3? Seriously anyone who believes this is stupid

Gamestop employees also hate gamestop
No there not.

I worked at Gamestop before, a long time ago. It's basically a 'you get to keep your job' commission. They say they changed the program, but I don't believe it for a second.
GameStop is basically being run by EA or something...
+ItsLucas lol
Probably...
In some ways yeah BUT not in this way (plus I don't have GameStop in Belgium and I only have a ea account for the sims)
+Flex Johnson what a crooked company
Yea I no longer want to shop there, because upper management is a bunch of old guys who don't give a shit about their employees or really the customer unless it gets them bad publicity. You should check out the recent reddit post from a gamestop employee who's district manager told him he can't take off for Thanksgiving/Black Friday, because his wife is being induced that day and the district manager apparently told him he has to work or it will be considered job abandonment. This is more then likely coming from the regional manager coming down hard on the district managers. I know first hand my regional manager would cuss out my district manager who was a really good, genuine person, and she turned into a shell of herself because of those jerk offs.
vanburen20 Basically it's Their circle of life policy there being forced to lie to sell shit told to lie to customers and open the new games sell as pre owned because they make more money or lie about having the game new in stock and push the used games on people lie about games on preorder lie what they get or what's in the games, forced to push preorders at least 10 pre orders a day sell power up rewards pro cards or the workers at to store get in trouble wrote up and fired

vanburen20 You're right about that, I definitely need another job.
I hate forcing the upsell and there's zero incentive to upsell...at all! Minus the fact that they threaten to fire you if you don't have enough of the numbers they want to see.

Upsell or no job. And most employees hate being forced to do it.

+LukeFromNY no problem.
LukeFromNY a bit unrelated but do employees get a discount
Working at a game store is the only incentive...that and keeping pre-order bonuses for yourself.
No commission, but they do get reprimanded if the store's numbers aren't what corporate want's. It's just as bad for employees as it is for customers.
They should quit if it's that bad
They do. have you seen all the "Reasons I Quit GameStop" videos on UA-cam? :-)
If “just quit” was a viable solution I’m sure they would. It’s hard enough getting a job in this country.
Oh my.
My GameStop has really cool people. I don't go there as much now, but I remember my Switch had a defective left joycon. I lost my receipt but they swapped my joycon without question.
That's cool
Juan S rare. They're usually pretty strict when it comes to receipts. What happened(most likely) is they knew you well enough and remembered you did buy it there and was able to look up the transaction and reprint the receipt. I can promise that would must likely not happen again.
Matthew Zablocki Yeah I agree. It caught me by surprise. The staff there are pretty cool.
They gave me free 3ds pens bc I lost mine and they always hook me up with deals

Thx for the advice because when I went to gamestop the other day to get Pokemon Lets go Eevee the worker kept asking me If I wanted to get Nintendo rewards membership and stuff like damage protection for the game I just kept saying no. I think that he was trying to keep doing this because Im only 16 and I apparently am stupid which is what gamestop thinks of people under the age of 18

But the GameStops in my city stopped that that story was from a month ago
It made me space out into remembering every experience I've had at GameStop ever

It was like a Vietnam flashback
i love when he says cut out the middle man when doing it through them and not right to nintendo would be doing it through the middle man
I know LOL
I can say I've never had a bad experience with the two Gamestop's in my area. But then again I've been going to them for well over a decade now. I've seen them try and pull this kind of stuff on the people who aren't common, the ones you never really see again. You want to upsell to people who aren't aware, who can be convinced into thinking they need something that in all reality, they don't. And that's most likely why I've never had this kind of experience with my Gamestop's, I've been going there longer than even most managers have worked there. I'm the one that goes in, sees a new guy, walks over and introduces myself because I am there quite often.
tmiddlechild
Im in the same position and if i see a new employee and they start to try to sell me everything in the store i make my first impression on them very clear.
Only time i go to gamestop is when they have christmas sales or spring sales.
I'm the same way. The only time you'll see me there is if I can't find a game at a cheaper price on Ebay (which is almost never) or if I'm feeling spontaneous and don't feel like waiting on shipping, etc.
Peter Ramirez I go to Best Buy and price Match the sells. Best Buy is awesome
Go there about at least once or twice each much to trade in games and get some (unless I can't find it for a cheap price then I just go to JJGames.com and get an game there)

@Filly Solis Cant lie they got some pretty good black friday deals too. 😅
I was unfortunate to have to get my switch at a Gamestop as well. I even got the bundle since they were so sold out. What makes me more mad is when they try to sell you a "new" game and then proceed to hand you the shelf copy that's already been opened. If the plastic wrap is gone, its not new.
+Derlex yup I made a video about that a few years ago
Plastic wrap doesn’t make a game new. That’s like saying because a car has 10 miles on it it’s not new.
I also bought my switch at GameStop as a bundle but only good thing to me is that the store is on the next street from my college.
You are comparing apples to oranges.
Absolutely not. It’s the same concept.
my gamestop is perfectly fine when the manager is working at the front desk, she is quick and fast and doesn’t try to force you to buy something, but sometimes there is this middle aged man who is just like what you explained in this video.
It's all the time
they dont do to my dad so haha

This skit is spot on hahaha. They wonder why a line is going out of the store with each customer getting these pitches. Nice video hahaha

“I’m never going into another GameStop ever again!”
*Slow week on videos one month later*
“Guys I went back to GameStop and I will never go there again!”
Repeat-
Many many purchases ago, I joined some gamestop silver membership ( or something like that) where I got this silver card (all free) but still there has been nothing I have gotten from them as in discounts or special preorder bonus or anything for being a member.
Pan Da indeed
In Chicago I was held up for 20 minutes over their damn reward card 😑 after I said no like this video. This guy asked 50 Times I counted🤦🏽♂️
Dark Fire the employees have to be deaf
+Crypto gamestop with all there extra fees
Yeah, but they could give you the back the price they would sell it for.
They sell used games as new all the time

+Xx6footBangxX horrible business model

Shiab Rahman they pulled similar crap with me. They asked if i wanted a protection plan for my game. I said no and the lady added it anyways. Luckily i caught it in time before i paid. They’re super shady with stuff like that. I hardly go to GameStop anymore.

Long story short preordered a LE Copy for PS3, had a receipt, went to pick it up, and they wanted to give me an Xbox copy. Kept saying that’s what i preordered even though I had the receipt. They canceled my preorder and told me good luck finding a copy of it on PS3.

One time I went to pay for a pre-order I had and they wanted me to sign up for their rewards program or newsletter (or something like that) and I told them I just wanted to pay for my pre-order. The employee then proceeded to tell me all the perks it came with and ended it with "You'd pretty much have to be suicidal to not have it"
._.
Like what even
That's crazy
HEY I AM A GAMESTOP EMPLOYEE AND I DONT DO THIS SHIT.. although i do get in trouble for not pushing sales
Sorry for this but..THAT'S F@#$ED UP!
I got elite pro which is $30 a year in February and was able to renew it for next year by April.
hillary stone lmao it is good if you go there often but your comment read like an employee trying to sell it to a customer
My local game shop just tells us what the price is then we pay then they just say if we joined there loyalty program (takes about 15 secs) and then we buy the game and leave
"Would you like to pre order a bottle of water sir? Are new gamer water is only $19:99 plus tax but just for you I will lower it to $18"
The poor guy was probably low on those numbers he needed to reach 😂
“GameStop is up for a buyer”
Yup
After i get my switch im not going to gamestop ever again.
That’s old
I'm in Canada, and my EB games is great. I've never had any problems with them, so it sucks that GameStop isn't that way.
Ya it's horrible
Yea they even give discount when the games you trade for cash are damaged, of course they don’t have the same price as a new game when they’re in good condition though, it’s been opened, I love eb games
Would you like to buy an extra Nintendo Switch just in case that one does not work?
The more they sell, the more hours they get. It's seriously stupid.
Sure sounds like it
GunsouAfro Yep and if you continue to fail to make preorders and memberships you eventually get fired.
+Broke and Caffeinated lucky
Ive never gotten bad experience at my local gs, and never been pressured into buying anything
If it wasn't for pre-order exclusive content GameStop would be as dead as it should be.
Vin Martone it's gettin there.
Gamestop employees do not work om commission but they do have sales numbers to meet and are told to push upsales and preorders or face writeups even terminafion if numbers aren't met
Jason Wallis well, I guess that's why I don't work for them.i am a big gamer,and I buy from gamestop,mostly because I'm antiwalmart.
@@tyrandal4304 same here man. Any other stuff I go to Wal-Mart
I’m calling bs. Over exaggerating, for views. None of my GameStop’s ever ask for “Wanna but extra wrist straps?” They clearly know they came w wrist straps
I left with my switch in less than 40 seconds
Lucky
This happens to me at every GameStop I go to so I stopped going. I simply download a digital copy of the games I want now
Nope. No commission at all. We're told to push push push push for new consoles and at some points never take NO for an answer.
+DeadAirV that's horrible business practice and a good way to lose customers
vanburen20 evidently not because I work at gamestop and you people never ever ever ever stop coming in to the store because the truth is that your laziness and lack of foresight trumps your need for a good customer experience.
Would you like to pre-order this comment...? Lol
LOL
In Canada we call GameStop EB games and the employees are nice. I’m lucky :)
Go Canada!
Dayala Singh 👍😁
