Doug Aldrich Demos The Gibson Les Paul Tribute
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 жов 2024
- Doug Aldrich has spent years writing, recording and touring with legendary artists including Whitesnake, Dio, The Dead Daisies and Glenn Hughes.
Doug recently stopped by the Gibson Showroom in Los Angeles, CA to check out the brand new Les Paul Tribute from Gibsons new “Modern Collection". He also took time to share the story of meeting his musical hero, Randy Rhoads, for the first time as a teenager.
The Les Paul Tribute captures the vibe, feel and tonality of a traditional Les Paul and is available in four classic finishes. A rounded maple neck profile and ultra-modern weight relief make the Gibson Les Paul Studio Tribute a pleasure to play. A mahogany body, maple top and pair of 490 R & T humbucking pickups with Alnico II magnets provide classic tone, power and sustain.

C’mon Gibson give this man a signature guitar! He’s played Les Paul’s almost exclusively all his life. You’ve given them to players that wouldn’t hold a candle to this guy.
He had deal with Jackson in the early 90s
Fully agree! How much more does this man have to add to his history before he can get a signature LP?!?!
Instablaster...
Totally agree!!!!!!!!!!
I always think of Doug with his goldtop or his other 🍋 lemonburst looking Les. He needs a signature Les Paul agreed!
Doug's passion for guitar is HIGHLY contagious! Love this guy. His Randy story gave me goosebumps.
He has a fantastic wife
Typed "Ripped older guy makes hot young blonde scream" and here I am
After laughing at this comment for a bit, I suddenly realized it's the Rag Doll / AXE FX dude! good job man!
Hahahaha. Leon Todd you're the man! Love your channel. I was thrilled when you made the King's X one.
I just scored my 2020 LP Tribute in Tobacco Burst. GREAT freaking guitar! It did need a setup when it arrived, but most new guitars do. For half the price of a LP Standard, you can't go wrong. there's a sense of pride you get when playing Gibson that you just can't get from an Epiphone.
Agreed, I couldn't have said it better! I got the same (Tobacco Burst) and it is amazing!
Doug sounds like a genuinely nice dude (I’m sure he is!) and he keeps it real and relatable through out the video. I think Gibson has now struck gold
Love his outlook "I'm not so concerned with mistakes as I am about playing like I really mean it", he's a cool dude. I have had a LP Tribute for about 2 years and I love it.
Ive never heard of this man before but the genuineness from his voice and guitar playing reminds me of me. Im buying this guitar because of him.
At last someone who can play "smoke on the water" riff 1:36
I think it's safe to say Gibson is back. I feel like the changes they've made actually have substance this time around. Time will tell but so far so good!
Changes back to the same old shit . I give the former Gibson credit for trying new stuff .
Kk Kk some shit they did was ridiculous "thicker rosewood fretboard for a better tone"
Chris Pedraza I agree but at least they tryed. Gibson always gets hammered by people I matter what they do. The old 2018 lineup offered something for traditionalists and progressive minded people as well. Funny how Fender can do whatever they want with the strat and no one complains .
@@Noscrap909 Gibson especial after that video of them threatening others for copyright are a bunch of cockheads!
I'm skeptical. They've been relying on their brand recognition and got sloppy.
I picked up one of these while waiting in music shop for a friend. It was just an afterthought. Something to noodle on while waiting. I ended up being there two hours playing that guitar non-stop. I couldn't believe how good it felt and sounded. How bright and clear the pickups were. How good the fat maple neck felt. I tried leaving without it, and just before I reached the door I realized I was leaving one of the rare "good ones" that just speak to you. I didn't need another guitar, but I NEEDED this one. I bought it and have not looked back. My favorite guitar now.
Broooooooooooooooooooo same. IT picks you. I NEVER wanted it and I couldn't leave the store without it. YOU legit said what happened to me and I'm glad I'm not the only one. Something about this series is fucking magic. Makes you want to play and you keep digging into it nonstop
Gibson representing The King of playing Les Paul's of this Era, Doug Aldrich!
I have this guitar but I think it might be broken. Mine sounds way different when I play it.
That separates a guitar fan from a guitar player. Setting an amp although is a different story.
Geoff Nelson guess the guy below didn't get your sarcasm
Hoogla Boogla sarcasm is the spice of life, and it sets us apart from the animals;)
I have the same problem, unless I have a few beers. Then I'm a god!
lol
I have a 2018 les paul tribute gold top with the 490r and 498t it blows me away. Such great tones and got it for under a grand. I'll keep it forever.
Great pickup combo!
I bout my first Gibson back in 1998. It is a Les Paul Standard Tobacco Burst with mahogany body/neck, maple top, rosewood fretboard.
Same pickups, 490r for neck and 498t for bridge. I feel the same way about mine and it also has the best "feeling" neck I have ever played.
Sell Stuff where did you buy it?
i just got my 2018 honey burst a few weeks ago and my 490s sounded a bit warm...so i switched them out for Seymour Duncans 59(sh-1) in the neck and a JB(sh-4) in the bridge. i readjusted my 66 deluxe reverb for the added high end and wow.....it just sings...a slightly different feel than my 2010 or 2011 stds....but just great!!!...best thing got it second hand for $550
Sounding Great DOUG ...plus your tip of the hat to Gary Moore end of the world licks thrown in there . Respect
Let me say. I never wanted this guitar. It picked me and I can't never go back. I couldn't leave the store without it and I tried over 30 after. It's never the same. Once you play it.. it's like an addiction. You want to keep digging into it and find all the tones you can get. This guitar is grossly under rated. I can't stop playing it.....
RIP Randy Rhoads.
Coming to the Golden era again, you're getting back the power Gibson. Loves your guitars! Especially the Les Paul 50's Goldtop
Doug is a champion with Gibson guitars. Amazing technique and tone. Always. I wish one day Dead Daisies plays in Chicago so I can see them live.
I started playing in 1977. The inside cover of KIss Alive 2 with the picture of Ace with all of the lights and confetti is what inspired me to start playing. I still play.
Love my 2017 Tribute T
Gibson! you better keep the tribute as a long run production series. I got one last year and it is indeed a keeper! Thinking of buying a second one and even maybe a 3rd one just in case! Great job!
Agree it’s a great guitar 🎸
I'm gonna get myself one for Christmas. Seems really cool
Luv Doug's touching memories of RR. Randy was someone I (as well as thousands of other guitarists) really looked up to. Doug's a smoking ass guitarist as well. Really enjoyed the vid.
Doug is a legend in my book. His playing is incredible. First time I saw Doug wason the Dio Killing the Dragon tour in Montreal... smaller venue and he was bout 10 feet away from me and my all was blown to shit!!! His playing style, the FREAKING TONE he had was mind blowing!! The ease of his playing and style... I was hooked and became a Doug fan ever since. When I was him in Whitesnake, I was even more amazed. The Sykes stuff he played was freaking incredible!! And again, his freaking tone!!!
Gibson, Marshall and @Doug Aldrich. #iconic combination
I have one of the 50's tribute with the P90's. Great guitar. Light, resonant and plays fantastic.
Finally a Gibson that is affordable but has the look of a higher end LP, plays awesome as well.
The back of my Les Paul Standard is signed by Doug!
We live in a healthy generation, he looks young. Several decades ago someone the same age would look like a grandpa.
Back then more people had marlboros and smoked more than Eddie Van Halen. That’ll turn a young guy to a grandpa in a few years.
I love so many guitar players, Randy, Jake, Zack, Gus. Poland, Marty, Petrelli, Broderick, Kiko, Teemu, EVH, Slash, Jabs, Micheal, Mick, Alex and the list can go on. Doug keeps me playing, love the guy!!
FIIIIINALLY GIBSON CALLS HIM
DOUG SHOULD HAVE A SIGNATURE OR SOMETHING
Renato Chagas Fuza i‘d buy it
Talking to Doug's awesome wife...my friend Danni....there's a story behind that he was, but it was pulled by "that guy" we all despise.
Door's open now...Got my fingers crossed!
Flipper Carlin What are you trying to say?
@@javeluke I know things first hand
He's got signature pickups. They ain't Gibson lol.
Finally something I can afford
Nathan Boone i am licky enough to own all of the models custom standard studio etc trust me they all sound the same get one of these ull be a happy chap
@@poisoneddog2967 mmmmmm I mean, coming from someone with the same guitars, the custom shops are a step above in sustain and tone. To be fair, it’s not a few thousand dollars better. This tribute with a thorough setup and decent amp is more than enough for most
Love Aldrich. Love Gibson. Awesome! :)
Great interview Doug!! Learned some things about you I didn't know! You are #1 guitarist!!! Awesome work you do
1:36
Finally, somebody who can beat Rudy Ayoub. Lol, Doug is awesome
Another disciple of the legend randy rhodes...if you were a kid in the 80s and you played guitar....it was eddie and randy.
They inspired everybody , and anyone who played guitar was compared to them
except for yngwie.
You can add a couple more that was every bit as prominent among guitar players and aspiring guitar players from that era...
Warren Demartini, George Lynch and Jake E. Lee
I was smack dab in the middle of that era and I was a lead guitarist for a few local hard rock/metal bands during the 80s..
Particularly Warren Demartini and George Lynch were both on everyone's radar in the music or the rock band scene.
So just a couple or three more I'm adding that were SUPER prominent players.
Well im just sayin they were an influence ,not the only ones and i wasnt there , tru dat ,respect.
But i listened to rocknroll like a disciple
Tapping ,super strats and the term shredding all seem to spawn after vh1 and blizzard of ozz...
But i didnt live there , id have loved to tho, obviously , peace
@@stricknine8623 and i know all those cats you mentioned i wouldnt argue with that, they all cool
Love that guitar. Have one and love it. It's worth it.
Doug is a Legend. Just a chill, good dude. Doesn't have the Rock Star ego💪🏻
It's because of this video that I got the exact same guitar, love that Honey Burst on that plain maple top, I love that the finish on this is so super thin, I love that it has a maple neck and Alnico II's. Super light weight, but full of tone... It practically plays itself... when I strike a chord, it sustains incredibly... Probably the best guitar I've ever owned... It may be the cheapest Les Paul by Gibson, but don't let that make you think it's any less of an instrument in comparison to it's big brothers... It's a great guitar all around!!
Had mine for a year now it sounds great
Doug's guitar work on the new Burning Rain album is awesome!
Amen.
Just bought mine today
when i think of doug. i always see him with a gold top 57 with black pickup rings and pickgaurd. love that blackout look!
Doug: my first one was a copy of a les Paul
Gibson: 👀
I finally got my 1st Gibson Les Paul! And it's a Standard 50's! And I'm really happy, she sounds great and she's an awesome Baby! Thank you Gibson! I dreamed it since I was 5 years old,1979.....and I commented on this video 'cause one of my fav guitarist is Mr. Doug Aldrich! Yeah, man, keep on Rockin'!!!!🖤🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🎸🎵🎶
I have some 'premium' Gibsons, but there’s something really appealing about this guitar!
Have 2016 tribute that I love. Do it!
I have this guitar, it sounds exactly like Slash's LP copy from Appetite
🎶This is not the greatest guitar in the world.... This is a TRIBUTE 🎶
Doug is my favorite guitar player.
I have the 2017 version of this guitar. I love it. Its my main guitar I pick it up over more exspensive ones I own. It takes a beating also.
Not a huge shred fan, but Doug’s playing is off the hook and always tasteful.
Bring back the gold top finish on these please!!!
Ive had one since about 2007 still got it,basic classic but still looks great and plays superb through my vox amp.Other more expensive Les Pauls are really more about looks than much better sounds.
Insane Player and genuinely nice guy for sure. He is on the top of my list of great players.
Fantastic guitarrist , Doug is a relutioner !!!!
JC and Mark Ag are saving this company and giving the people what they want!
A true Gibson rep
Wicked player!! Seems a genuine nice guy
Dough its one of the top guitarists out right now, he deserves a signature Les Paul, the 2019 tribute its awesome even the dotted neck one ive own without the pickup covers which i miss the look, well done Gibson, would be nice to have like a conversion program for early 2019 buyers that want the later 2019 sparkles like pickup covers and the trapezoid inlays cause this tribute its a beast
What a player! Doug rulez! 🤘💪
I've got the 2011 60's tribute in honey burst with P90's and the baked maple board. Love it.
Got myself the Tobacco Burst. I absolutely love it!
Doug rules!!!!!
He mentioned the size of the neck, but not the fact that it's maple. Would've liked to have heard his opinion on that, like he spoke of the chambered body.
Looks to be a great guitar, especially for the price!
Nice Job Doug! I might need a few of these
what a great clip like Dougs attitude
Nice job Gibson, you’ve got me ready to spend a whole bunch of money :)
Love Dougs playing!
Gibson... It’s time to revisit Les Paul as a player and innovator!
Gibson 2019, better than ever cause its the same as before...
the difference is this one is even more expensive
Holy shit Doug your fckn awesome bro!!
Definitely looking at the 2019 Gibson SG Standard. Still can’t decide between Ebony and Cherry
I love this guy.
This guys a beast...
❤️U Doug
Awesome. Now go make the M 3 for us shredders who already own Les Pauls!
And a u2
If I'm not mistaken, he once said in an interview all of Doug's Gibsons have stainless Steel frets in them
this Guitar sounds amazing out of a Marshall Dual Super lead. got the tobacco burst Les Paul and it rocks though that Marshall DSL.
Doug is the man
I love everything you've guitar playing your are awesome 😎🎸💯😍🤘
Great guitar with great Gibson player...
never heard of this guy but wowwwww smokinnnnn
Good ole Doug, ma' mmeh!
What a bio…how could you not like Doug….and his playing..off the charts..
Doug is right, there's something about that Gibson logo on the headstock that just makes you feel like you've made it.
Hi, thank you 👍🎸🎸🎸Doug.. Greetings from Germany and the Cute Urchins. 🎼🙂
Great guitar,just got one
Doug's rippin it 🤘 I wish Gibson would bring back the flame top!
its on a bunch of other models
Doug in Dio= 👌👌👌
Doug Aldrich Signature model, please~!
Welcome back Gibson
Even Doug Aldrich has bad back. So honest guy.
Great , great player .
RIP Randy.. Gone way too soon, way too young
That was weird. They aren’t weight relieved anymore, and they aren’t a good place to start, that’s a kick ass quality axe to play for an entire career!!! What a great finish too
You hear such stories often...young nobodies meeting their hero and become a hero themselves
If it's good enough for Doug it's good enough for me. What a down to earth guy.
When zakk was out of ozzy why didnt they pick up this guy ? We was a beast w dio & whitesnake
I love the Gary Moore / End Of The World run dude.
This guy is soooo friggin' great with his alt picking! Very great player!! I am kinda so so with his solo bands as it does not seem to be to the top of his abilities but the White Snake stuff!!! MAN HE SMOKES! The guy can definitely play very well! Also, what I hear is that he plays through an actual 100 watt amp. I had someone over a few years ago that has a AxeFX and he could not stand playing my JMP 100 Plexi because... "it makes soo much noise!" I explained that you volume fade and hit the standby when not playing or have a remote volume pedal but he just could not do the real thing! Doug plays the real deal and I doubt would have a problem with my Marshall. LOL he would probably try to buy it off me like everyone else. I do own a Les Paul and being that I come from shall we say humble (or just plain ass broke) means, I will never pay over $1000 for ANY guitar unless I make way more money than most people including what I make myself currently because you have to be out of your mind to spend that kind of money on something like that! It is just about 20 pds of wood and metal. To a certain point quality counts but 3-8 thousand more dollars more?!?!?! Like I said OUT OF YOUR MIND IF YOU ARE NOT RICH! If I was rich... a new Les Paul would not be a bad investment since if you take care of it the value will just grow. I bought mine for $650 and could easily quadruple my money but I would not have my guitar then. Mine is not weight relief and omg heavy after about 2 songs. My advice to people like me know what to look for there are a lot of fakes, wait for a deal and POUNCE on it like I did! POUNCE my friend POUNCE! Every great piece of gear I own was when I dug into my bank account and beyond to take advantage of a once in a life time deal. Or you can just buy a new one and waste money you don't have. Great guitars though! Doug A. is an awesome player too! Note he bought his first one used to for probably the same reasons I am telling you here.
Doug could make a "Cracker Box" sound great!!! He can make a "Les" sound even better! When is Gibson going to make a Doug Aldrich "Signature" model? Come on Gibson, he gives his heart and soul to the Les Paul!!!!!!!!
