The terrifying guy with the best guitar tone ever.... speaks volumes when metal Gods like Dio and Coverdale considers him to be the best guy to do the job for them....
Awesome guitarist and super nice guy. I met him after his show this last week and he was very friendly and genuine. F**k any haters here, this is one cool dude and a great guitar player.
Met Doug on a Whitesnake Tour. A TRUE Gentlemen. We talked for ever and he took photos with me and even posed on the stage during his solo, so I had excellent photo's.
Doug is probably the all-time best shredder using a Gibson Les Paul, only Gary Moore could rival him. Might sound an odd thing to say on face value, but I think he is still criminally underrated. The guy has AWESOME talent. His perfect four finger technique and speed almost equal Mr Satriani, the greatest compliment I could give.
I'm obsessed with his playing, his look, and he plays Gold Tops ( like me), only better LOL He's definitely one of my favorites now if not the favorite
This is like a spa day for the ears. There is nothing better than hearing professionals play at the top of their game. Magic spills out all over the place. Wonderful!!
I have the DVD / CD set from this tour and it is my Fav. Just incredible. And I was at Dio's second to last show in America in Cleveland in Heaven and He'll.. Good times..RIP Elf.
When I was younger, that's all I cared about was how fast one of these guys could shred. As I've gotten older, my tastes have changed drastically. I came to understand why the older guys loved Clapton, Hendrix and Gilmour so much and looked upon them as truly legendary players. I still have a soft spot for shredders, but I have to 'feel' the conviction of their playing. If it's just notational chop suey, I'm not into it anymore. I play guitar semi-professionally, too. It helps pay my bills
You sound like basically every single middle aged guitar player. Do you guys all try to sound exactly the same or is it some lack of creativity that takes over with time?
@@vestmentofflesh And you sound just like me, 15 years ago. Serious. No smartass tone intended. There's something that happens to a lot of us where our mindset changes and we appreciate what we used to dog on. Even many of the shredders change. Paul Gilbert's live solos aren't as fiery off the rip as they were 25 years ago. Tastes change with time.
@@vestmentofflesh The opposite. Mere speed chasing completely limits creativity and musicality. Children get impressed by mere speed, but once they grow up they realize speed in itself means absolutely nothing. Just compare an the solo of Hell's bells or Back in Black with any Malmsteen solo.
The funny thing about Doug's tone is that it wasn't his rig (Suhr Mod 79' JMP). It was Craig Goldy's JCM800's rig. I think Doug had his pedal board, and that was it. He sounds amazing.
This gold Gibsom looks amazing! I am interested as a layman in so many things so I decided to ask some questions here (please do no lough me): 1. If the Gibson or Strato has any influence on career (I mean sound, limitations - e.g. Gibson give not tremolo bar, or whammmy bar - don't know what is correct) 2. If some son we have e.g. 3 chords E, D, A - so we should change the scale of improvisationt along with changing the chords? 3. How far is for the best rock guitarists like Steve Vai to specific sound of jazz playing - is it special kind of scale or simply style of articulation and any of the best rock guitarists after small time could be good jazzman? And reverse? If any reckognized jazz guitarists would be able play nice rock&blues improvisations immediately or also after some time of triaing. If in conemorary times when rockman use more complicated techniques e.g. tapping, etc. etc. than jazzman is it still true that those jazzman are on the top? IMHO NOT ! Jazz is invented style and I can ivent my strange style in which I will the best in the World? 4. What about tose many scales - is Steve Vai plaing only Lydian? I know most of beginners play pentatonic. What influence have the scales? If the guitarists think about it playing improvistations? Are the bond with one scale/mode? Thank you in advance! :)
Doug told me he saw spaceships when he was driving from a Vegas gig back to LA . 14 years ago or whatever .... I totally believe it . Because I was in the spaceship . looking over him
Love it. Alan B'stard on keyboards!!! You'd have to be over 50 to get this though, and only if you appreciated British, early 1980's alternative comedy shows. Apart from that, Doug does the business as usual.
People criticizing Doug: but this guy make in one DAY of his work playing guitar more money than a bunch of stupid people here can do in a YEAR giving their asses to his or hers boss.
Ele foi o Zakk do Dio o cara é um monstro na Guitarra tambem sem dever nada em Tacnicas uma pegada de Metal diferente mais raiz pois esta era a linha de Metal do mestre Dio e o Doug destruia nesta linha
Doug Aldrich is a monster on guitar.
Dio being Dio always gave his bandmates time to shine

You nailed it, I got to meet him a few years back at a show and he cool as hell to boot
I would say in my top 3 for living kick ass guitarists, amazing live and hes a cool cat in person as well.

Alex Skolnick?
Joh sykes not bad either
This is like a spa day for the ears. There is nothing better than hearing professionals play at the top of their game. Magic spills out all over the place. Wonderful!!

Pretty much it man. I was thinking exactly the same thing before I read your comment.
doug is too good for ozzy, so was randy and so was jake e. lee
And he’s ended up in the Dead Daisies?
My favorite is Craig Goldy
Especially when Ozzy treated Jake like absolute garbage despite being one of the best song writers and guitarists he ever had.
