I came across Doug when I was visiting LA. I had never heard of the band "Lion". We just happened to walk in a club and they were playing. I was like, "Oh my goodness!" Then, I bought Dangerous Attraction and my doors were blown off. It's like, "Where has this guy been?" I also liked his work with Dio. He is such a great rhythm player. Reminds me of Sykes, Zakk Wylde
Such a great player ..hes on my favorites list along with Neal Schon, Steve Lukather, Guthrie Govan, Gary Moore, John Sykes, Dimebag, EVH, Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert, Nuno..and these new players like Owane, Plini, Sithu aye,the guys from Polyphia and Intervals...to me it doesnt get better than that
This is usually how I warm up -- start with the slower, bluesier stuff and work your way up to the faster licks. Playing guitar isn't like doing 0 to 60 MPH in 3 seconds in a Lamborghini. You get to the fast stuff slowly but surely and have to put in the serious practice time.
Cant Get Enough Of Doug, He's Down To Earth as it gets… He Can Light it Up I'm Sure Thats Coming… Footage with Dio I cant Find Any More was Ungodly Command of the Guitar… Was Real Happy when I saw a Series with Guitar world Coming Our Way
Imho, best and more agressive shredding style playing he had, when he worked with these great bands, such as LION, BAD MOON RISING, HURRICANE and HOUSE OF LORDS.
Doug Aldrich killed the show at made in Japan with White Snake that's really the start off of the concert what that guitar solo awesome playing dude. Awesome stage performance
My favourite guitarist. His album with Ronnie James Dio 'Killing The Dragon" is for me the best guitar work he's done. Must have had a lot of freedom and used it. Had the CD on rotation 24/7.
Couldn't agree more !His tone was so killer on the whole album as well. Especially on better in the dark. I know at one time in his career he used some marshalls that frank levi modded for him. Who also modded the amp for Appetite for Destruction. To me better in the dark sound alot like slashs tone on AFD. Love Mr. Aldrichs attitude a playing! Really seems like a class act
Came to the comments section to see if I could find info on the guitar he’s playing since I’m a les paul player myself, only to find out that it’s a Suhr. D’oh!
Interesting that at 1:28 when he is playing Goodbye Pork Pie Hat he talks about hearing the pick. I don't think Jeff used a pick, though it does sound like one.
Has anyone seen the guitar he is playing I think it’s one of John suhr’s single cuts those babies are like £6000 what’s that in USD $7250 man that’s a lot of bread I’ve just paid £3750 for a knaggs SSC1 and that axe is unbeatable I’d stack it up against this guitar though Dougs playing would slaughter mine.
Look on a One Dollar Bill. It's in The National Seal of the United States. It's the Eye of Providence. The all seeing eye of God, illuminated as shown with rays of light around it.. On the seal (The Seal is on the dollar) it says Anuit Coeptis. This translates to "He has favored our undertakings".
The beauty of Doug is he does play licks many are familiar with, so this makes boneheads think that is "average" playing. But the pundits are not seeing past this..they don't have the depth to realize the accurate picking and soul that is required to execute this style. Doug makes this connection with his audience in an accessible way, but then his sneaky speed and aggressive staccato crescendos into rock royalty territory.
Exactly! One day our friend here will develop his playing and realize that what's amazing about Doug's playing is not how many scales he can play or his speed (notice that he doesn't use his pinky finger). But his attack, vibrato and aggressive playing is something I'm trying to develop. BTW, there's nothing more boring and average these days than shredders vomiting 100 notes per second.
Love the way that talks about guitar and music. Very open and relaxed approach.

It's so true what he says, I find after about 15 mins of solid playing I really start getting into my stride
Always a pleasure to see/hear Doug play, one of my all time favorite guitarists. Thanks for posting this, Guitar World.

Killer guitar player with really awesome style, tone and technique..... more please.
Aldrich always has that kind of guitar sound that I love.
Doug Aldrich is awesome. Love his fiery playing on Dio’s “Evil or Divine” DVD.
One hundred percent.
The only rock star I have ever met in person lol. Met him in Vegas before a show and took a pic. Nice guy. Killer player.

Doug Aldrich with Whitesnake was one of the best moments in my life.
When I saw the announcement of this I was hoping Doug was going to use his new Suhr Aura. Looking forward to hear more from him and the Aura.
Paul Kossoff is a Legend... So underrated.
Alex G. So intense vibrato.
Great performance dude....love your feelings on note blending.

Gary, Randy, Sykes and Doug!! Respect!
He is very bluesy a lot of the time! I liked his work with Dio,cuz it was darker playing. I loved that album!
Imho, best and more agressive shredding style playing he had, when he worked with these great bands, such as LION, BAD MOON RISING, HURRICANE and HOUSE OF LORDS.
This guy is awesome honest. No star airs at all. Thanks a lot Doug!
Not a blues fan but love the blues techniques with the rock scream

Hey Doug, what about Leslie West?
Doug's guitar solo in the Transformers theme song is way underappreciated
The All-Seeing Eye is a great Kithara player, too

Think I want these pick ups. Beck is awesome too.
That guitar he's playing is really nice. Wish I had an $8000 dollar guitar and Marshall amp with that killer tone.
New suhr LP. Looks nice.
Great stuff! This guy Rock!
Interesting that at 1:28 when he is playing Goodbye Pork Pie Hat he talks about hearing the pick. I don't think Jeff used a pick, though it does sound like one.
Jeff Scott Brown if I'm not mistaken, at that time Beck still used a pick to play... a little after that he stopped using
I did not know that. Well done!

Illuminati exposed
Boy, he doesn't mention Randy Rhoads as a big influence, but stole all his licks and flipping the kill switch during his solo spot with Dio.
Ya know,Yea but Ya know, Its you ya know, actually No, I dont know, thats why you're here teaching.
I have ZERO fucking clue who this is, nor do I care what his method is. But hey, thanks.

I heard that's what kept him out of stryper
Sad to see that he sell is soul to illuminati and that he is proud of it.Doug is remove from my list of favorite guitarist.
Anybody who puts that tattoo on their body needs shunned
It’s his body. What’s it got to do with anybody else what someone does to their body? Nothing.
Absolute condom 🙄
Oh Faak off. Your opinion on who can get what kind of tattoo is plain stupid. Wtf is wrong with you exactly?
The most average guitarist in history. This guy only needs a few screaming cougars left over from the 80's to get him goin.
Ralph Ciavolino Yet here he is being featured on Guitar World, and you?
when you can play, let us know huh?
