    Super helpful video! Instructions for these things are garbage! I think mine is set to lv 2(towing) on the basic tune. I can’t wait to go mess with the advanced features in the am. Another thing is I lost 3 mpg. Any help would be great! I have an 18 2500 bone stock.

      These tuners will definitely give you more power. The problem is that when we have more power, we tend to want to use it. I know that I always enjoy feeling the difference when I hit the skinny pedal. Unfortunately, I cannot help with the mpg loss. I experimented with the tunes to see which one my truck liked best, including best mpg.

    Hi, my smarty touch has been unplugged and replunged in due to various truck repairs, how does this affect the truck? I have the same vehicle as you.

    • @jayraysdiy852

      It shouldn’t affect the truck to unplug it and plug it back in. The Smarty Touch sends the program to your ECM. If you want to, you can program it then remove the touch. I keep mine plugged in for the display function of the touch.

    Great video! I'm basically stock except 75hp injectors. My truck is an 01 5.9 dually with a 6 speed, 3.55 rear . I'm trying to run a tune to keep the smoke down and get better mileage. It my welding truck so i have some weight on it too. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance

    • @jayraysdiy852
      @jayraysdiy852 2 роки тому +1

      I hate to say spend more money, but you probably are going to need either a larger turbo, or compound turbos to reduce the smoke with 75hp injectors installed. Either that, or put the stock injectors back in if you still have them. My truck has stock injectors and I still get some smoke with this tuner turned up above level 5.

      @@Countryliving_Drifter I know that I would personally prefer the compound turbo setup, but it can get quite expensive. I have seen kits ranging from about $2,000 and they go up from there. I was looking at a kit from ATS which is about $5,600. This is parts only, the labor is an additional cost unless you do it yourself. If you install it yourself, make sure you have a long weekend to do it as it can take a couple of long days to do.

    • @JayRays1truck
      @JayRays1truck  Рік тому

      I drilled and tapped the manifold right in the middle where all of the ports come together, just a couple inches above the flange.
      As far as your question of whether it is necessary, I believe it depends on what you are doing with the truck and how much horsepower you have. If you tow a lot or heavy, then I would say yes it is helpful. If your truck is basically a daily driver that you don’t tow with, then you may not need it.

    What settings so you think are best for fuel economy? 04 5.9... just bought the truck and it has a smarty touch already installed. My fuel economy is really bad

    • @JayRays1truck
      @JayRays1truck  5 років тому +1

      All I know is my truck which is a ‘03 4x4 and I played with the settings to see what my truck would get. My truck likes the REVO tune power level 5 torque 2 and timing 2 with a very light touch of the skinny pedal to get the best fuel economy. Many people will argue that stock settings will get you the best economy, but each truck is different. I think economy is mostly how you control your right foot and how much (cool) air flow your engine has into it. The best I ever saw on my truck was 19.6 mpg on the highway, empty.

    • @JayRays1truck
      @JayRays1truck  5 років тому +2

      One other thing you could do is try different settings and if you see smoke, go to the next lower setting since smoke out the tailpipe equals too much fuel.

    • @biophillie
      @biophillie 4 роки тому +2

      Timing advance = more mpg and snappiness. Harder on the engine for towing though. if pulling heavy stock timing is best.

      Technically, on 3rd gen trucks the Smarty does not care. There is not a setting in the Smarty for deleting EGR and/or other emissions related equipment. The Smarty only changes timing, duration, and fuel pressure to give you more power. I do not know what settings it has for newer trucks.

    Are you able to mess with the boost psi at all? Thanks

    • @JayRays1truck
      @JayRays1truck  3 роки тому

      Changing you timing and fuel pressure could lead to a slight increase in boost pressure, but it will most likely not be much. At factory settings, my truck runs around 28-32psi of boost (max). I can hit 34-36 psi boost with the programmer at level 9, fuel pressure at 3, and timing at 3 with the skinny pedal to the floor.
      My truck has the HY35 turbo.
      If you want more boost pressure, you will have to consider a different turbo, or compound turbos. You might also need to add a boost fooler if you plan to go over 40 psi.
      If you want the turbo to spoil quicker, to get to max boost as soon as possible, that can be accomplished with timing.

    • @JayRays1truck

      I currently have my rail pressure at 2. Timing is at 3, and I am at Power level 5. What is ramping up to 20? Boost pressure? Do you mean 20K rail pressure? I have seen 36 psi boost and 29K rail pressure in my truck with no issues. If increasing pressure and adding timing, take note of how responsive your truck is and how much(if any) smoke comes out the tail pipe. If it starts to be more than a puff of black smoke when you hit the skinny pedal, you can back off on the rail pressure a little bit to clear it up.

    • @JayRays1truck
      @JayRays1truck  3 роки тому

      which range are you referencing? There are different levels for power, fuel rail pressure, and timing . Each one can give you a different level of horsepower and/or torque. you can also change the max speed on your truck as well as entering a different tire size to calibrate your speedometer. For example, My truck has oversized tires so my speedometer was not reading correctly. I measured the overall height of my tires, entered that in the programmer, and verified with GPS monitors that my speedometer is correct now

      when you say EB, are you referring to engine block? If so, you should plug in your engine block heater in cold temperatures. My truck is usually fine until it gets down in the teens, say 15 degrees F or less. Then it has to be plugged in. If your truck doesn’t have one, you can purchase one from the dealer or you can get some “strip” heaters to put on your engine oil pan and transmission to help keep the fluids warm.
