My problem with clouds is that some players can seemingly just see through it. According to some it's because the clouds are client side so not everyone gets the same weather on the same map. Apparently, this is especially true for cross-platform players. Never seen any confirmation if it's true or not. But I would love to see some content creators test it and either confirm it or dismiss it.
Higher graphics settings display more clouds. The clouds still disrupt heatseekers and spotting, but lower graphics players can follow you through them.
As a console player I have the ability to "lock-in" to my enemies if I click on them while they are spotted. Once I target them, if they go unspotted, I am still able to see where they are.
Got the MiG-23M recently and top tier is just miserable because the clouds force you to eat a radar missile. Funny enough the clouds appear mostly on desert maps. They even said they "improved" the clouds yet it just feels like I never get a clear sunny match anymore
@ishannage248 Clouds certainly aren't great, but for me, it's really the 16 vs 16 nature of top tier. It's just too crowded for the game mode. On top of that, the Air RB gamemode itself is just very limiting. It would be great to have an additional game mode for Air RB, similar to how Sim has an Enduring Confrontation mode in the events tab. Air RB purely just gets a very limited team death match with very little strategy. Also, BR compression from 9.0 to 10.0 is rough. Mig17's facing Aim9L's is completely BS.
@jim4194 It's been about a week since i saw the missile glitch through me. I'm not sure if it's still an issue or if it was patched, but there were a few times since the last update where it looked like the proximity fuse wasn't working. I think it was more of a desync issue, though.
Got a test drive for this when I was actually active as a CC, my fav 17 by far. Not as fun to play now but, man, 17's will never not be fun, they just feel so fucking good. I also got to see 3 of these fly IRL at the same time at EAA this summer. So that's pretty nifty, I would say. The burner actually kinda looks like it does in game, since it's so primitive. Also some of you clearly don't remember getting Norway, in props/early jets, with clouds COMPLETELY covering the map and going from like 10k-30k feet, and it shows. You don't know pain. If you think clouds are bad now, that was literally unplayable.

The only way to dodge missiles in planes with no flares is going into clouds, and I like how you can use them to flank others ngl, it makes things more interesting

clouds and foggy weather are good for 1in10 matches just for the Variety (and it looks cool ig) I was trying to bomb bases in sim the other day cause i had an RP booster and legit couldn't see the bases i was supposed to bomb. then i tried landing... i was flying 5 meters above ground and supposedly above my airfield and i still couldn't see jack.
If an enemy flying through a cloud is arround the edges of my screen I can still see them as a black dot. When I look at the position straight, they disappear
biggest problem i have is that the clouds are bigger than they appear when it comes to IR. i can see a guy, clear as day, afterburner pointed straight at me, but my r27et can't lock him because the empty air in front of me is apparently a "cloud"
Clouds are cool. I have turned the entire tide of the battle by making good use of clouds. It makes it easier to win fights when you are outnumbered or in a worse plane. Other than mountains, it’s the only other cover you can make use of in air battles, I would hate for it to be removed.
Yeah the spotting system in this game is buttfucked up the ass. I've flown off to the side of the map to avoid the furball only to see 6 unspotted dudes shooting missiles at me from ≈3 miles away
I like the clouds but only in moderation because you can fly through them to get missiles off. My biggest issue is tracking is so inconsistent that people can see you miles through it rather than using them to run away when you're in a fight you can't win, e.i. T-2 gameplay

I never quit Maps flying RB air but now i do sometimes because of the clouds, fog, Mist, i was happy the last year when i was very often matched historic axis vs allies at BR 5.7 on bigger maps and with small teams, you could play much more tactical. The 16 vs 16 clusterfu... in heavy clouds ruins the game.
Clouds ruin both SB and RB these days. Sometimes the only way to see distant player dots is to get in a cloud and wait for the graphical glitches--or viceversa, where you can see players flickering in and out from 50km away because they're in a cloud
I want old clouds and old rendering where you could see dots in clouds and across the map. used to be way more fun to play air RB because of it if you ask me. Also i want them to remove that stupid shit where if you're above the enemy you can't see them, but they can see you.

I run a German F-104, and I’ve been getting radar sniped by F4S’ and F4Es. It’s draining when this happens for 4 games in a row. It makes me want to stop playing, because I can’t even see the missile, let alone dodge it. They need to really remove most of the clouds. Yea, it’s immersive, but it makes the game impossible to play, especially at high tier jets

And compared to the lim-5, it does get the 2 R3Ss, but at the cost of having worse guns. So in the end, I'd say they're pretty on par. And again, comparing it to other 9.0s like the F86K, I can't see how it deserves a higher br.
@@user-lh5pf4ji3q It is worse. It has a different velocity, thus you have to shoot it seperate from the 23s to hit something. That's besides it being generally worse than the 23. Less ammo, lower rpm, worse accuracy, heavier... And the lim5 gets not only an extra 23mm, but also 20 more rpg for each 23mm gun. (which may not seem like much until you realise that's 25% more ammo). As far as the saberdog goes, it's just like with the saber vs the mig-15. The mig is better on paper, but in practice the saber/saberdog is much nicer to fly due to it having much nicer rudder authority, a significantly better roll and it locking up later and much less.
Imagine if there was no "spotting" and you actually had to ID the enemy jets visually like in sim battles. The problem with 16v16 and cloud spotting and 3rd party fur balls would all go away. But people want their realistic games to be like arcade battles and last 5 mins tops. You guys know that the longer you stay in a realistic battle the more rewards you get right?
you also know that shorter, more consistent games give more rewards overall in a shorter timeframe? really dont feel like spending 20 minutes every game trying to find the last guy who just fucked off to a random corner of the map scale back the clouds and put 12v12 or even 8v8 for top tier and it would be better

clouds are very nice and effective, imagine you have a mig 19 or so na dfight against aim 9l or r60, clounds ca ngive u some cover like bushes for tanks, its very usefull when u know how to play strategly
It’s out turned and outrolled by most 8.3-9.0 aircraft and outran by all the 9.3s, energy retention is the only thing good for it, yet you only need that in long dogfights, which you’ll never get coz of the sheer amount of 3rd parties

You losing track of the enemy or they on you when in cloud cover is natural and should remain that way. But why the hell is it allowed for someone to know your exact location through the clouds, just because a teammate, or worse an AI plane sees you, when they can't is beyond me. I constantly see people lurking in the clouds and use others to spot so they can pounce on a target they should not know the location of and distance to. And why is visibility reduced to less than 2km when it's dawn or dusk!? it makes no sense, especially when the sun isn't in your eyes. This will be a hot take, but I wish there was no enemy markers in Air RB, just how there are none in Ground RB.
The spotting system is what causes planes not to render at all, even without the highlight marker. I would support if it gave a less accurate marker when in clouds, something not good enough to aim guns with, but the real problem is that when someone is fighting someone else in the clouds, one of them often seems to have perfect spotting with a full marker while one is not even rendered. I would not play without the highlight because then it would be just like ground RB - some people can oneshot you while you're a single pixel 5km away, while on your end they are completely hidden until you're dead.
The clouds have been awful this patch. Some clouds here and there is fine, but blanketing most of the map especially at the altitudes most of the fighting happens? Annoying and dumb.
Skill issue, a good player sees through the clouds and pilot snipes 3 km away on demand. Also imagine bitching about more targets to kill, again skill issue, if you include 8 more enemies and 8 more team mates for stealing your kills that means 16 more people you can unsuspectingly pilot snip! The clouds have been awful this patch. Some clouds here and there is fine, but blanketing most of the map especially at the altitudes most of the fighting happens? Annoying and dumb.

This is how i feel in every game in the mig19s. Its a great plane but the matchmaking is terrible. Also clouds are really annoying.

Really sad to see the state of 8.7-9.3 and the clouds really aren't making it better. Also shenyang is overtiered anyways
Shenyang could go 9.0, but i don't think it should unless gaijoob adds tt mig-17 with missiles and afterburner
Skill issue, a good player sees through the clouds and pilot snipes 3 km away on demand.
Also imagine bitching about more targets to kill, again skill issue, if you include 8 more enemies and 8 more team mates for stealing your kills that means 16 more people you can unsuspectingly pilot snip! True war thunder player right there!
