    First 5 mins answered my question from your install vid... didnt see this post lol.
    I'm stationary on 160 acres so I'll make a set of logs stairs - if I need, I can burn them for heat in my woodstove during winter, lol

    The storage box is a brilliant idea.
    Weight is always an issue, though, so evaluate whether your need for the storage can be justified by the additional weight.
    Happy Trails

      Thanks, Bob, I did an update on the box in this video - www.loveyourrv.com/lci-rv-product-review-updates-sneak-peek-at-next-install/ I added some extra bolts through the sides to the old stair hangers and it *really* firmed it up. Also, a commenter had some unique keys locks that would fit so I have bought one off his eBay. www.ebay.com/itm/284140936720
      Will install and update later this spring after I get the winter skirting off. :) Cheers, Ray

    Would like recommend to LCI to change the lock mechanism on that box to a hasp so you can use a pad lock. My 2014 Redwood has the same CH751 key for my Level Up keypad compartment.

    The self drilling-self tapping screws are provided so you can install the bracket if you don’t have access to the back of the chassis to install nuts instead regular bolts.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 роки тому

      No "regular" bolts were provide so would make me hesitant about picking my own bolt. So if in doubt I'd stick to what the manufacture included as they have figured out the fastener with the appropriate shear strength for the job. - ua-cam.com/video/i9SJbCCoACg/v-deo.html

    Our main door closed fine with the solid steps. We sometimes had issues with the screen door. The brush sweep on the bottom of the door is what caused the issues. I see you don't have a sweep on the bottom of your door Ray. That might be why it closes so nicely.

    • @LoveYourRV

    You just know that your stinky boots are gonna be safe with that ch751 lock guarding that 40 pound steel box! I'm amazed at what the manufactures of these things do. I guess it's a good thing and bad thing that you can only access the box with your steps up.
    Good review though Ray, if I bought a set of these steps, I'd definitely spring for the box too.

    • @fordfan3179

      True it does limit the box's use but I only use it for my landing gear blocks and wheel chocks, all things I use before the steps ever come down and the last things I put away after the steps go up. That freed up space in the pass through to.

    cool box, to bad it is not aluminum. Sense your stairs cover it up, i was thinking it is a great place to store your leveling & chock blocks along with other set up equipment. that way while you are set up you will have no need to lift the stairs to get into it. and it will open up storage space in another more convenient box. good luck & safe travels.

    Hey Ray...I have the 2 step Lippert Solid steps. Since my flooring is vinyl, I had to use the 4" bolts that came with it. Those bolts protrude down into the box area. I noticed that yours didn't have the bolts. Did you end up using the wood screws? My concern is if I have to use bolts, I wouldn't have room for the box. Have you run into this issue? If so, what would your suggestion be in order to fit the box in? Thank you!

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  2 роки тому

      I have thick OBS wood flooring, so I used the wood screws method, and it worked fine. I didn't have any clearance issues with the box. If you use the box and have clearance issues, you could always drill holes in the box top for the bolts. Could use some washers as spacers above the box and have the nut inside the box.
      Also, in an update, I showed how I also ran bolts on the sides into the old hangers for extra support ua-cam.com/video/z444Da45Ph4/v-deo.html and changed the lock cylinder ua-cam.com/video/PMhAi_bZNTE/v-deo.html Cheers, Ray.

    Ray this may be a complicated question. I need to park the camper close to the house during off season and no room to put the steps down. I would like to be able to remove just the steps not the threshold. I noticed on the sides of the top step there are three bolts on either side of the frame. Do you think if I removed them the steps could be removed? I will be able to get in the rig using a step stool while in storage. Told you it would be complicated. Thanks. Funny thing I was looking at ordering these and my wife had questions, presto same night you posted the install, questions answered, except for mine.

      No, there is the the bolt head on one side and a nut on the other done up really tight, not going to leak. I just did a trip and had a few rainy days. But the box does leak in the bottom a bit. There are some small openings on the corners where the metal was formed together. Small amount of water got in. Going to have to fill with some sealant. Cheers, Ray

    I installed the stairs today and the box goes on this weekend. What size pilot holes did you drill?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 роки тому

      If I remember right I went with a 1/4 pilot hole and the TEK screws are 3/8ths. Later on, though just to be safe and really beef things up. I utilized the old stair hangers and ran a couple of bolts through the box sides. That really firmed things up! and gives me peace of mind for rough roads. :) Here is the video update - ua-cam.com/video/z444Da45Ph4/v-deo.html btw A commenter alerted me to the fact he is selling some replacement locks with a different key, I have bought one and plan to install it after I get my winter skirt off the rig, here is his eBay link www.ebay.com/itm/284140936720 Cheers, Ray

    Hi Ray, Being your old steps were the folding metal ones that had seen their days, and you got these new ones no charge, and your rig is not that high up to climb in as you’ve figured a way in with the steps up, if need be; it totally makes sense for you to keep these new stairs understandably, would be a bit crazy not to. Lol 👍🏼
    Am surprised to hear that under storage box is all metal, I imagine it will start to look old n rusty soon enough (?), and the weight, ouch, and the stupid common lock- good grief. Well I guess Lippert needs to rethink outside the box on this one, lol. ......But I still love my aluminum folding steps 😁, Cheers 🍻

    Hi Ray - I was just in the process of ordering these steps, when I reviewed your video and am now concerned about door clearance. How much do they protrude above your threshold ( how much door clearance do you require)? I'm not real interested in modifying my doors and want to make sure it fits before ordering from LCI and shipping to Ontario.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 роки тому

      My Solid Step sill sits about 5mm above the highest point of the existing door sill which the new steps sill covers over and it's about 15mm from the inside RV floor. My screen door sits 10-12 mm above the original door sill when closed and that gives it a few mm of clearance, so it's pretty tight but closes OK. But issues can occur if the steps aren't leveled to the ground, I find I have to unhook and level the rig before I can close the doors with the steps out unless I want to mess about adjusting the feet. This is the big drawback of the steps, so I'm looking at modding the legs to make them quicker to adjust. Cheers, Ray

      @@LoveYourRV Thanks for the quick response Ray - I always level my rig, either when storing or at a campsite before opening the door anyway. I am going to look at my clearance and hopefully they will fit. I have been torn between the MORryde and LCI steps, but I like the 8" rise of the LCI vs. the 9" rise of the MORryde. Until watching your video I didn't even think about the clearance issue - it has never been mentioned in any other video that I recall seeing.

      The box probably weighs about the same as aluminum. I have a similar box on my bike trailer in aluminum diamond plate. It cost double what the steel box cost. The steel box is powder coated (like the frame on your trailer) and very durable. It took me all of 15 minutes to mount that box using the supplied hardware and original mounting holes for the factory steps. It's been way better and more useful then I could have hoped.
