Patois is heavily English derived with some words from some of the West African languages like Akan and Wolof. Words like "nyam" (eat) and "duppy" (ghost). Most of the words are English derived but it can be hard to realize because they're pronounced differently, often being contracted. For example "pon", is just a contraction of the English word "upon". The next challenge is the Patois has lots of slangs and idioms - sayings that have a meaning beyond what the string of words would literally suggest to someone unfamiliar with the culture. So learning the vocabulary of Patois entails learning the meanings of whole phrases as much it does the meaning of certain individual words taken from other non-English languages.

She is right about the water. Rich people in Jamaica buy water in trucks all the time. Most times because they just aren't getting the water through the pipes, even though they pay their monthly water bills.
Hi Jess, fun fact. Falmouth trelawny had running, pipe water before new york city. However as it relates to water ( thanks for your work by the way) in Jamaica there is not much city water or piped water set up because the citizens when building houses they build a big concert tank that catches the rainfall, water from the clouds when it rains ( Jamaica is the land of wood and water) that serves as the main source of drinking, bathing & water for all household purposes/uses in Jamaica.

As a science student in high school I always asked the same question about our bauxite industry and felt our government wasn't doing what's best for the country.. However, to electrolyse alumina into aluminium it takes significant electrical energy resources which comes at extreme costs. So it is indeed a more financially sound action to sell this alumina to larger states than to take on the task of creating aluminium then having to form aluminium products for global retail.
Thank you for saying these things. You’re the first none Jamaican I’ve ever heard speak so bluntly and logically about the situation exists in our beautiful country. The people are not educated because the government keeps them ignorant and poor. The government has no direction and no vision. Poor leadership for the past 60 years. They sell out the country and pocket the money. Great video
Yes. We should focus on manufacturing in way more aspects. Can you believe we are shipping the raw products for St Mary's to DR so they can manufacture and sell them back to us.
As far as the water situation goes water is the cheapest utility bill. but the places that have the most water usually dont need it as much as other places so the water has to be pumped which requires infrastucture and enery. So when there is lack of water in a area is usually because of a breakdown infrastructure or enegry supply. sometimes its for a short period. sometimes there are just no infracture in the area so it depends. informal settlements tend to have issues with land ownership which makes its hard to establish structure infrastructure and revenue streams.
Even where the water is, the people in the community have to pay trucks to deliver. There are abandoned reservoirs and wells all over Jamaica. The psoj , don’t mind because they can bottle and sell back to the people.
Well said, You're making awesome videos. I'm quite enjoying them all on Educating people on Jamaica ,👏 on issues I'm with you, girl Jamaica's.🇯🇲 Amazing. best place To have a adventure on it's my heaven.🏝✨️🫶🇯🇲
Some people have to truck water in because they live way up in the hills where there they don't have water pipes that run so far up in the hills. Some communities are located in difficult to reach areas so they have to pay for their water because of the lack of accessibility.
Hi, I think before you discuss the topic of Jamaica you should do your research. Have you done the same thing in your country on how the original people of your country have been treated?
I like your videos and thoughts. Keep learning. You will eventually understand the system more by traveling around Jamaica and interacting with people from different parishes. Keep the content coming. I'm enjoying them. I'm Jamaica as well.❤

Bauxite ore which is mined in Jamaica and mostly gets exported. Alumina is extracted from the bauxite ore, and the alumina is then used to make aluminum. To make aluminum from alumina, it requires a lot of cheap energy. Energy is expensive in Jamaica, as we import all our oil. Hence the reason why the bauxite or alumina if processed in Jamaica gets exported for the final processing to aluminum. Some countries like Russia, China and one time the US buy the raw ore or the processes alumina, which their strategic purposes.

@Blessup: Your political observation about Jamaica 🇯🇲 is 💯 spot on! A lot of corruption and incompetence in the government, regardless of which political party it is.
It's not as simple as it seems a lot of our water sources are contaminated, By bauxite mining, untreated sewage, and improper disposal of garbage. The hilly terrain also complicates things but yes the government can do better in terms of water management
Jess my friend I like you a lot stay with the tourist situation stay out of politics you’re getting involved in politics There’s a lot of people in Jamaica right now even if they’re holding their home or a family home they thousands of dollars in water bill and if they even try to sell their house they would found out that housing and water NWC that house are that property Stay out of the politics, sweetie

Bauxite is the ore that is processed to produce aluminum. The extraction process is very energy intensive. As a result it is only economically viable in areas with cheap electricity which is not the case in Jamaica. It would take a huge investment in energy production to make it possible to refine the bauxite in Jamaica. We are closer to the end of this resource than the beginning so it might not make sense to do that now.
@@blessupjess That comment is wrong, Jamaica is the 8th largest exporter of Bauxite in the world. The country has over 8 Million metric tonnes of Bauxite untouched.👍

Bauxite is or can be mined in Jamaica. It is then exported to other countries (idk which) to produce Aluminum. Aluminum is then imported back into the island lol which is crazy. i dont think Jamaica has the infrastructure to produce Aluminum hence where import it.

Jess you have a lot of sense..that will serve as a big protection. Your observation of jamaican men is spot on..there are exceptions to the rule, but by and large your correct
Most of the white cultures do more acting and cover up,that's the only difference. They're good at that, but men are the same everywhere,it's just part of our make up. You're so correct.

Jess you are100% correctwhen the bauxite was thaken over from the Jamaican government they dod not look out for all the employees who ate Jamaican citizens they were laid-off from their job at the Boxcite company and brought there own foreign people in and that hurts hundreds od employees becausevthey werevnot able to find employment any where else....the Jamaican government just did'nt seem to even care alot of the transition for compensation did not end up in those who got laid off it went into the pockets of government officials this practice is very prevalent in Jamaica 🇯🇲 that jewel paradise Jamaica should be free of the poverty we see in that Island my beautiful home. Jamaican patwa is also a language. It isn’t just broken English. The guy in your other video didn’t really bother to explain it. Jamaican patwa is also know as Jamaican Creole. It is a pidgin that combines English and various west African languages. If you hear words like - UNU- (Igbo) you all Duppy - (Akan)Spirit/ghost Macka- Thorn/splinter Juuk- poke Poto poto -(Yoruba)- Muddy Nyam -( Wolof)to eat These are just a few examples o African words
Unfortunately, patwa is not an official language. It's a blend of British English and the different languages of the slaves that were brought over here. However, having said that there are different subtleties between parishes as the people come up with their own slang/phrases and it continues down the generations until no outsider knows what they are talking about lol.
@@DGSRizzo correct . It isn’t recognized as the official language of Jamaica. The official language is English however Patwaa or Patois is a English based creole as stated above.
My opinion is that previous government leaders aka (P) signed a lot of contracts and made a lot of deals didnt read the fine print and sold out Jamaica's wealth. Now the current government has to be renegotiating and trying retain and maintain the countries wealth.
It is true the player mentality is part of the culture here for both men and women. Thankfully its not that way for all of us. In the end its a lifestyle choice that individuals choose to engage in or not.
Glad u don't av any preferences n energy n vybz is crucial we all are made up of energy so glad u are the way you are frequencies n energies have to align to make sense ...
The government don’t have Jamaica best interest in mind he is just a authentic representation for the British monarch the country is sold out from the mining factories to the shipping ports and even the airports all owned by other countries, and the government took on too much debt from the Chinese and instead of paying off debt and make life easier for the less forunate Jamaica they decide to steal over $14 Billion Dollars from Jamaica Public purse and blame the higher crime rate and failure of the country on the dancehall musician when he does not help, Accept or acknowledge dancehall music but he use the musician voice to win vote in the election now the Chinese own Our construction and retail industries the Russian bought the last airport along with a few mine factories and the country doesn’t have a plane or a port or anything bringing in revenue to further develope the country all sold and the money taken and share between high members of the Parliment while Jamaica suffer and the musician get the blame
Some of you people, have no idea what your talking about when it comes to Jamaica,a few things happen or some had a few bad experiences, and then people think that it's all of Jamaica, some of you know nothing about Jamaica

Some of them have children all over the place, and are not responsible at all. Don't mess up your life, stay smart and be safe and strong. Some people may not like my comment, but on a whole they have a bad reputation. They must do their best to improve that. Jamaican Canadian. ❤❤❤

I wonder why Jamaican women give the most jacket?
Maybe you missed that one
Most Jamaican men grow up with their maternal mother's side
So since them learn to cheat I guess mama don't have an influence there
Jamaican men tek care of them jacket no questions
Jamaican women abuse dem ras then get upset when some foreign women find dem attractive
No really

She is right about the water. Rich people in Jamaica buy water in trucks all the time. Most times because they just aren't getting the water through the pipes, even though they pay their monthly water bills.
Excellent content, from one youtuber to another, blessings to you, keep up the good work 🙏🏾🌹👍🏿
Hi Jess, fun fact.
Life is absolutely about making smart choices
Yes ghetto is everywhere in Jamaica my friend you have to do your research and we are not saying it in a negative way. Keep up the good job I have been watching you lately.

Great video
I agree, instead of exporting Bauxite and Alumina we should produce Aluminium to make Cars and airplane.
Yes. We should focus on manufacturing in way more aspects. Can you believe we are shipping the raw products for St Mary's to DR so they can manufacture and sell them back to us.
We lack vision
@@victorwilliams4026the simplest answer I can give is physics. physics rules us all. not money, not laws, not technology. phyics.

People think us Jamaicans are supposed to be perfect, while others are allowed to make mistakes.
Your mindset seems so toxic

I love how you're down to earth. Keep enjoying yourself. Don't let the comments get to you.
Thank you 🙏🏼 respect 🫶🏼
JESS never apologize to anyone when u see injustice. Alot of Jamaicans are blind or pretend to be, if your ere in this sort time space and see what’s going on how is it they can’t ??? You won’t find a good man in the tourist area, most men in the tourist areas are looking for a way out so have fun but don’t get attached
I agree with you 💯%.
@Blessup: Your political observation about Jamaica 🇯🇲 is 💯 spot on! A lot of corruption and incompetence in the government, regardless of which political party it is.
Beach 🏖️ in the background is fire 🔥
It's not as simple as it seems a lot of our water sources are contaminated,
By bauxite mining, untreated sewage, and improper disposal of garbage. The hilly terrain also complicates things but yes the government can do better in terms of water management
Jess my friend I like you a lot stay with the tourist situation stay out of politics you’re getting involved in politics
There’s a lot of people in Jamaica right now even if they’re holding their home or a family home they thousands of dollars in water bill and if they even try to sell their house they would found out that housing and water NWC that house are that property
Stay out of the politics, sweetie

Bauxite is the ore that is processed to produce aluminum. The extraction process is very energy intensive. As a result it is only economically viable in areas with cheap electricity which is not the case in Jamaica. It would take a huge investment in energy production to make it possible to refine the bauxite in Jamaica. We are closer to the end of this resource than the beginning so it might not make sense to do that now.
Thank you for this! 🙏🏼
@@blessupjess That comment is wrong, Jamaica is the 8th largest exporter of Bauxite in the world. The country has over 8 Million metric tonnes of Bauxite untouched.👍

Your energy is beautiful. Makes you beautiful in the process. What a person you are.
Bauxite is or can be mined in Jamaica. It is then exported to other countries (idk which) to produce Aluminum.
Aluminum is then imported back into the island lol which is crazy.
i dont think Jamaica has the infrastructure to produce Aluminum hence where import it.
Not all Jamaican men are the same because me I never grow up with a father , I only know my mother for my father I only want one woman to be my babmother because I want to be in my children an baby mother life because I never get a father love so me need to be there for them, family is important for me

If you hear words like -
UNU- (Igbo) you all
Duppy - (Akan)Spirit/ghost
Macka- Thorn/splinter
Juuk- poke
Poto poto -(Yoruba)- Muddy
Nyam -( Wolof)to eat
These are just a few examples o African words
Thank you! I saw some comments on my other video saying “you like to nyam” and wondered what it meant 😂 so thanks for clarifying
@@blessupjess your welcome. It’s a relatively easy language to learn but the fact that your in Jamaica gives you a huge advantage
