  • Dr Zinn's book : What the fat ! - amzn.to/4bXnRs5
Today I'm joined by dietitian, author and researcher Dr Caryn Zinn, we discuss how much in terms of carbohydrates should we be eating per day so as to remain healthy and not fall victim to insulin resistance.
We explore Dr Zinn's view that recommended daily allowances for protein intake are far too low.
How much by way of healthy fats should we be eating whether we're trying to lose weight or indeed maintain a healthy weight?
What are the healthiest sources of dietary fat ?
We also talk about the shortcomings of focusing too much on monitoring blood sugar levels at the expense of insulin levels.
Plus we explore the comsumption of dietary fibre and if it helps to suppress blood sugar spikes caused by eating sugary foods.

This is excellent, very sound advice. Similar to one of my favourites, Dr Ted Naiman.

Theres alot but here are several citations, all peer reviewed and published in reputable journals :
      1. Low-Carbohydrate Diet for the Treatment of Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes: A Comprehensive Review from 2015. This comprehensive review provided strong evidence that low-carbohydrate diets are beneficial for the management of obesity and type 2 diabetes, often leading to significant weight loss and improved glycemic control.
      2. Low Carbohydrate Diets and All-Cause and Cause-Specific Mortality: Two Cohort Studies from 2013. This meta-analysis indicated that low-carbohydrate diets were associated with reduced all-cause mortality and certain specific mortality causes.
      3. Comparison of Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat Diets for Weight Loss and Cardiovascular Risk Reduction in Obese Adults: A Randomized Trial, 2003. This randomized trial showed that a low-carbohydrate diet led to greater weight loss and improvements in certain cardiovascular risk factors than a low-fat diet in obese adults.
      4. Carbohydrate Restriction Has a More Favorable Impact on the Metabolic Syndrome than a Low Fat Diet from 2008. This study compared low-carbohydrate, Mediterranean, and low-fat diets, finding that the low-carbohydrate diet resulted in the greatest improvements in weight loss and markers of the metabolic syndrome.

Did you know that a low carb diet is considered the best approach for type 2 diabetes in Australia? It isn't just a good approach, it is considered the standard of care.

There's quite a bit, but it's hard to find objective studies because so many are done by the sugar/grain/processed food industry and government/academic studies are biased toward the low-fat approach they've pushed for decades (they don't like to be wrong).

Can you tell me where to find those please? @@happyhabitpodcast
