- Leopold Stokowski conducts Debussy's Clair de lune. The Philadelphia Orchestra performs Stokowski's own arrangement. This was recorded in 1937 and again in 1940 for Disney's Fantasia, although it was deleted due to length.
Magnificant! I worked for a lady whose husband was in the Philadelphia Orchestra and her father was an original member. She said they called him Stokie. She said once he stopped a peformance because people were being noisey. She had some original records left; she had thrown out most of them when she moved to NJ... !
It was fascinating to hear her recall her memories of Stokie, the Orchestra..and she had pictures of them during his time as conductor.
what is so beautiful about this composition is that Stokowski is my favorite composer and Claire de Lune was my Dad's
favorite classical arrangement. To me this was the perfect blend of music and memories for me......
Surely one of the top 5 entries for the most beautiful musical composition ever written
This song reminds me of a rainy day many years ago and that feeling I get every time I look into that special someone's eyes... I'll miss you...
With the audio restoration, I would have eased back on the filtration and pushed the treble frequencies with equalization; you can usually pull out a lot in the grooves that is not often heard but they're there. This can be done even on a few acoustic recordings. Thanks for this beautiful offering... Stoki was such a magician!
this is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard.
omg... Listen to you complain. What a blessing it is that young people are finding this priceless treasure. Twilight~Clair de Lune. How appropriate. let them learn to live and love.
Christmas Day 1945: I was 9. Lady next door had given me a Columbia wind-up gramophone with a selection of 78s. My parents couldn't have afforded such a present. This was one of the first discs I played. It started me on a lifelong journey of love of music, its reproduction and the people I have met.
thank you for this wonderful post. am amazed how well the orchestra sounds given it is a 1937 mono recording at the dawn of the electronic recording era
by far, the best orchestration of this masterpiece. He was wise enough to leave it alone and not assigned a million different instruments to various sections and phrases.
I really enjoy playing this piece at the piano.
But Stokowski's arrangement is simply perfect.
Simplemente hermosa...
any use of great classical music is good because it exposes the true original beauty of music to newer ears. Great music must continue to be appreciated or it could be lost!
Robert A it is already lost for 99% of pop. see a regeatton gets 1 B views, these jewell only 70k
Beautifully done. Thanks for uploading.
Yeah, I loved that show when I was a kid too :-)
This piece is a golden tressure . ^^ It calms my heart fully.
too beautiful to be true
Canção Mágica ,Imortal ...
It's been used in many movies - hell there is even a play with it in the title that was also turned into a movie (Fankie and Jonny in the the Clare de lune) - and it even appeared in Ren and Stimpy many times... fortunately it is great art and rises above the lesser work it is used in.
i try not to think about it
Inserting this in Twilight led to people experiencing - and possibly enjoying - something they otherwise wouldn't have.
i'd love to hear an arrangement for a choir
wow
thank you for posting, when i think of heaven, i think of debussy.
"leopold...LEOPOLD!" Always reminds me of the Bugs Bunny episode where he dresses up like Stokowski, lol...what an amazing performance.
@alternatehistories ....However, if you'd like to hear a really good Kostelanetz orchestration, look for "All Through The Night" by Cole Porter on 12" 78 rpm. If played properly, the fidelity is amazing, and the arrangement will really move you.
Es una obra maestra de la música romántica como "Zerezzade", o "Fascination" o "Pavana para una infanta difunta" yo no me canso de oirla y en mi canal tengo subidas 2 versiones
I have this record. I think that it is my favorite version. The first side could have been rushed a bit less towards the end, but I think he tried to fit it in. The second side leaves me speechless. Definitely could use a bit less filtering. Sounds kind of muffled here. Use a 3 mil diamond on a stereo cartridge wired mono, and much surface noise will cancel. Ceramic is better because you can trim the shank so that the point rests really close to the yoke. If the cartridge has good
Wow!!!
I love this version. Though the original is always better.
That picture that comes up at 2:22- what is that from? Is it an orchestra and a huge piece choir?
ren and stimpy made me come here lol
acoustic damping (silicon grease on ceramic elements to remove harmonics), it will sound terrific.
Claire de Lune is for vulnerable and tender lovers, not vampires...:')
Amen, fellow creature of the light... ^^
@@sampeacaml9307 Bonjour Canadien. Êtes-vous un Québécois?
This song does not need to be associated with Twilight at all :/
Like this if u didnt get to this vid through twilight
shame she had thrown alot of them out though..:/
amen. twilight was a travesty of poor-usage
@mhharriso8
OUCH, rap is terrible I hope you don't confuse it with hip hop.
