- The old Temptation's number performed at Reading in 1973, with the addition of the Memphis Horn's which really add to the performance. This was originally issued as the B-side to Pool Hall Richard. I hope you enjoy it.

Good lord, the Faces were one fabulous band, the talent just in that small pocket of players is immense.
Utterly stunning , nothing Rod or Ronnie did subsequently comes even close to the quality of , let us remember , a blooming B side on a 7 inch
Well said
It don't get much better than this performance ,the magic , emotion ,and alcohol are in perfect harmony , an for an all too breif instant, everything is right , what a time it was .. wish l could have been there myself.. Ronnie has always contributed 50% or more to the overall magic of anything he ever recorded with The Stones,The Faces ,and Rod ,and should be included in any knowledgable list of iconistic, innovative, evolutonary genius guitarests,in any genre ,from blues ,country western
God what I gave to be back to 1973 if only for a few hours 😢😢😢😢😡still love you Rod every L/P single tape c/b off the face and you the man love you ROD DAVID ❤❤⭐️⭐️👏👏🙏🏻🍀
Me2
the greatest band in history..and rod on great vocal form..
CORRECT.
The best rock and roll band ever 🎉
One of the greatest ,under/rated bands of all time.
jerry c why do people use the words "under rated" for so many acts, the faces were huge in the seventies....
+hippie dylan I agree, I think it might be because some folk weren't really into them years ago and are only recently seeing what they missed then.
Chris England Thats true, they were so good even Lynyrd Skynard opened for them. Faces were just having fun at what they enjoyed. But made some great music.
But Lynyrd Skynyrd would make numerous hits , they were awesome also.
That's the facts, because enough people would have seen what they were singing ,and saw enough concerts ,they would have stayed together. Only one number one hit Stay with Me . They may have grown to be a rival of the Stones instead being one member Ron Wood being with them. Kenny Jones took Keith Moons place with the Who. Ian also stayed pretty bands and The Barbarians .
Consider that the band was simultaneously churning out Faces records and Rod records at a blistering clip - seven in four years! Those records easily stand on their own, but had they all been under the same banner, even the punters would know how great these guys were. Hell, who had a better 1971 than LONG PLAYER, EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY and A NOD IS AS GOOD AS A WINK TO A BLIND HORSE? Add in the solo albums that came after the breakup, and even the next few years were as magical. In fact, Woody's and Mac's albums were as good or better than Rod's in the mid to late 70s.Woody got his dream job, but never had a moment as a Stone that compares to what he did as a Face. Plonk - my God, what a songwriter and singer. And Mac, of course, whom many of us got to see up close and personal touring as a solo or duo in his last years...man, I.miss you, brother. But what a treasure chest of musical genius they collectively left for posterity.
With a bar on top of the grand Piano, that took a team of Men to lift on to the stage. And it WAS Raining!.
Sounding ace, The Faces were a great band, gigs always looked and sounded great. Perfect
I had completely forgotten this song! What a great song! ❤
The best band ever.
Ron Wood the ultimate Rock and Roll offensive lineman.
Saw them several times in London in the early 70s. One of the greatest live bands but never acknowledged as such.
This song always takes me back to my youth I have listened to this song so many times brilliant
Yup
Saw them loads of times in Newcastle and Sunderland in early 70s when bands toured to make money and they always put on a good show. Rod had a great voice then.
Pool Hall Richard and Cindy Incidentally have been largely forgotten, but they were great songs.
This is the Bollocks
I've still got the original vinyl from 1973
It's so much better than the other live version on Overtures and Beginners
A really great performance from from all the lads in the band.
Great to see Woody, Mac, and Kenney back out there doing shows with Mick Hucknall as lead vocalist instead of Rod Stewart,
Whose voice now really isn't up to belting out those old Faces songs anymore.
Shame but true
The absolute, very best of Ron Wood! I like the horns in this version too.
Totally agree , and yet how has he managed to be just the master's assistant in the Stones , totally under utilised for 45 years
Beautiful cover, by one of the great bands of the '70s!
The Tower Of Power horns also performed several gigs with Faces
I love this version! Rod may be a song's best friend!
Wow goosebump city unbelievable!!!!
i was there brilliant set we sang our hearts out
My brother would play this ,the FACES , all the time RIP LOVE yer man xx
A seriously good Cover...
Absolutely BRILLIANT MEMORIES ❤️❣️🎼💗🌼🎼🤖
I'm not one of those folks who insist on saying Woody isn't as good as Mick Taylor. They had different styles and both added so much to the Stones. However, this sounds so much like Mick Taylor it's no wonder they looked to him when Taylor left. The Faces were such a great band. And, yes, I liked The Who with Kenney Jones.
Thanks for uploading this. I had an old cassette that I lost so great to hear it again. A great live performance
Espetacular!!!!!
great tone from mr wood
Great song, brilliant version by the guys!
This is a wonderful cover of the Temps’ song. I never heard it before...and with The Memphis Horns!
Was my favorite song in about 1975.
Greatest set of musicians to ever grace this earth so much talent....
Rod, Ron and the boys playing in my home town. I used to have this on vinyl.
I love them Faces! Always a fan!
liked this version from the first time I heard it back in the day
Always been a fan
I'm so glad that I found this, I was there. Rod was hurling the mike stand around, and the bassist was excellent. I think that he was called Tetsu Yamauchi, or something like that. My other highlights were Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen, it looked like there were about 30 of them on stage, and Status Quo were great of course.
This is a great cover song. I find it extremely interesting that this great version was played at Reading in 1973, the same gig that they played Jealous Guy, by John Lennon, which if you listen to the Faces version, is incredible and in a bluesy style that Lennon didn't put into his original version - to me it blows Lennon's version away. If you go back and read the reviews of this 1973 Reading UK concert, of which they were the headliners on day 2 I believe it was, the Faces started at 11PM, and the gig was described by the critics as "tired....band seemed to be worn down, etc. etc", and they mention how the band had just hired their new bassist. etc. So, even though at least two of the songs recorded from that very gig, live on to this day and are thought of as being amazing covers, the critics and fans at the venue at the time seem to not have grasped the quality of what they were seeing on stage.
In all fairness, the critics missed the mark on just about every rock band to come down the pike in those days. They absolutely hated GFR, even though they were selling millions of albums at the time....they hated Hendrix, too.
Thanks for the tip about Jealous Guy. I'll try to search that one out, after I'm done listening to this great track.
Helluva Band.
@@DeanMk1 Hi Dean, try "Coast to Coast Overtures and Beginners" The Faces live.
@@paulharvey1474 Thank you Paul. I think that one and Rod's first album are the only one's I have yet to own.
Can’t believe someone other than Ruffin & the Temps could pull this off!!!
liked this tune the first time i heard it way back .............great stuff
I think I like this version better than the original. I ❤ Rod Stewart
@jeanperiquito As far as I am aware, you can only find this track on the "Five Guys Walked into a Bar", 4 CD box set, or, as originally released, on the B-side of "Pool Hall Richard", 7" single.
If you are a fan of the band, the box set is a must have...well worth the money.
magic
I totally agree with you, he's also a very talented artist as well, ian mclagan, kenny jones, ronnie lane, they were up there with the best too, i think the booze & birds image over shadowed how good a band they were?
Fantastic! Thx for sharing.
Ah ! Happy days. Was at this gig. Remember Rod coming on stage with a Scottish flag wrapped round him. The Faces started kicking footballs into the crowd. They were swigging Blue Nun wine. Seem to remember they finnished with Maggie May. Status Quo were also on earlier. I think they were on either the year before or after. Great Band. Good Times.
one of the greatest live bands
the greates rock band ever was there at reading as well as over 100 more other places
They should have done this at the Brits the other week.No one in that building would match Ronnie.47 years ago and it seems like yesterday. And it Was done in the Rain.
Great song...Thanks for posting.
Brilliant version!! I have another live version of this, that I thought was perfection, but this is amazing!! a very happy K.
Great version of a classic. Would have been even better with Stevie Marriott on vocals!!!!!
Yeah wish it would I could hide my tears and have no excuse
So very excellent!
No one sang this better than David Ruffin.
Ruffin didn't have Ronnie Wood though.
Brill song, love it!
cheers for this formaface. Cracking track!
What a band... ;)
Love this song
Kayden loves the song and brighten thinks it is the answer to the mysteries of the world regarding Eternal happiness
Thanks for sharing!
Not heard this yonks. Love it 🇬🇧
What a Beautiful Song!!!!! Nice job on the video too!!!!!
I cry every time❤
My first concert, Oct. 13th, 1973 in anaheim Ca. Rory Gallagher opened . Man, I can still see it in my head.
I wish it would rain every day.
I shouldn't say this, especially with a drink on me. but ask rod or the family if you ever get a chance. here we go if rod could turn back time, he would of still been with the faces. fact.
Blue Patriot
I would hope so or small faces???
brilliant love rod and the faces xxx
@ledrotten ..couldn't agree more...and he's been doing it since the early sixties..
a man with far more talent than he's credited with..
@RoryNights Hey!! thanks Christine, so pleased you enjoyed it, its been a long time fav of mine too ;-))
oh YEAH, this is nice!
@cockniodicanio Thank you for that comment sir, I must agree with your views on Mr Wood. I, personally regard him as a musician, rather than a 'Guitar Hero', myself.......soul beats ego any day! (:
Just listening
Speciaal voor lieve gina 😢
I've played Ronnie's silver-faced Zemaitis guitar..
you sir, are a very fortunate person....and I'm nowhere near green with envy...
Great version by Rod Stewart and the FACES but fun and jokes a side THE TEMPTATIONS original is on another COMPLETE LEVEL, ALSO ROCKSTEADY/REGGAE VERSION .
THE BLACKSTONES
Great band, saw them twice early 70's first time Trentham gardens Stoke on Trent and 1974 November Birmingham one week after the IRA pub bombings . The band were tremendous . Shortly after they split up.
From what I recall it was played on the juke box in preference to the A-side
there is a Reading Festival LP from way back when with this on
Ahhhhhhhhh GEEZ!! Thank you so much for this is like a birthday party for my ears! Do you have any idea who is playing lead and or rhythm guitar on this track?? I'm already on my third replay since coming across this thank you so much
if rod had stopped with the faces, they would have been bigger than the stones, fact,
Ronnie wood left to join the stones end of the faces
@@russellcarr3045 no, the face,s finished, when ronnie lane left, fact,
Faces were the world's best "cover" band, "fact"....
nice!
..... i played it to death ..magic
@Nightbusdriver2 True indeed, I guess he knows it too.
Ronnie Lane...cute as a button.
Yeaa!
Speciaal voor gina beumer
Voor gina beumer en mijzelf
1 of the most unrated bands and the song
I was never a Rod Stewart fan, but this rendition of the Temptations hit, is really good. Rod Stewart did arguably one of the best covers of this song I've heard. I do think the lead guitar steps on Rod's vocal too much, killing the continuity of Rod's awesome vocalizing.
Was Ronnie Lane on this or had he just left?
Is this available on CD? Was it released just as a b-side7" to pool hall richard?
the faces would have been bigger than the stones, if rod had stuck with them, and not sold out , bet he regrets it now,
I doubt he regrets it - but I see your point.
mick wood the heart fell out of the band when Ronnie Laine left…Woody was the next to go…Rod quite rightly was exploring a more folk orientated direction outside the band…bands break up…shit happens
+Greendore I know what you mean, but Jagger is a force of nature I reckon... and he's stayed kind of 'purer' to his style. Rod is my favourite overall because I absolutely love his music, especially the earlier stuff.. but yeah, I guess he did sell out a little. Nothing wrong with branching out of course.. but it seemed as though he thought it was all a bit below him after a while. The Stones are solid all the way through rockers.
he never sold out ronnie lane left first .
Rod Stewart regrets going solo? No solo artist regrets doing their own thing. They know the consequences of not making it before they set out on their own. Entertainment has never been easy for anybody. It takes time and dedication, many times ending in spoiled marriage or thwarted band mates.
Rod knew what he was getting into, lets there be no doubt about that. He was a kid and he was throwing it all away to do his own thing... hahahaha Rod Stewart feeling regret!!!! hahahahaha
Ter nagedachtenis aan gina beumer!
Dogs Bollocks version of a classic....The Faces rule
Is Someone singing Besides Rod ? Some verses don't sound like him.
It's all Rod .. Just bad sound! ` :)
Great song better then the Temps
Got to agree, the Overtures and Beginners version was really flat (in fact it was a pretty piss poor album altogether - and that's from a Faces fan!)
The musicians can always 'play it like they used to', but the vocalists haven't got that benefit, I guess that's why Percy Plant wouldn't reform Zep)
thefabulousstevieg Love that album! About to sing this song karaoke
I love this track. That little riff from 0:23 is so familiar. I know why!! It's from On with the Show by the Stones, on Their Satanic Majesties Request.
Rod Stewart doesnt have the sensitivity to sing this song It should done with a single piano It is treated as just a rock song It is a beautiful heartfelt song Listen to the definitive version by David Ruffin of the Temptations A traversty
This IS a rock band my friend so WTF did you expect?
