A small bike teaches you how to utilize the power band. A new rider on a big bike probably will scare the shit out of themselves if they hit the power band on a big bike. A panicked rider is a dumb rider.
A small bike teaches throttle control. Give way too much throttle on a 400cc, it’s not a huge deal. Give way too much throttle on a 1000cc, and you’re going 60+ before you can process what you just did.
A small bike is a “cheap” bike. You drop it and it’s no big deal. Because it’s no big deal, you push your abilities and get better. A big bike is expensive. You won’t be as willing to experiment and risk dropping it.
By all means, buy whatever you want. But I’m telling you if you have two identical riders - one starting on a Ninja 400 and the other starting on a ZX10RR - the one starting on the Ninja 400 is going to become a better rider much quicker.

I notice you said bad habits can be learned on big bikes but there are so many ninja 400 crash videos online because everyone thinks "you can wide open throttle the 300 and have fun!". It seems to me that it's all about the rider. 1000cc can be taken to parking lot as beginner to practice just like 400 also. Your R1 is beautiful; stay safe.

Oh for sure! Both can be taken to a parking lot but the Ninja 400 would be the easier one to start on and practice low speed vs an R1 or any 1000cc.
I probably didn't mention it in the video but yeah both can DEFINETLY be practiced in the parking lot lol
Also thanks! stay safe as well

Depending on how long your legs are, you will most likely be able to flat foot it. Definitely sit on the bike when you get to see it in person to get a better feel for it.
That's one hell of a bike so if you go through with getting it, ride safe!
