Don't feel sorry for not having experience with the content you are watching, most of us who enjoys reactions are in fact looking for people who has no experience with it, so its actually a bonus :), love from Brazil!
There's a really subtle thing they threw in that I didn't notice until I thought about it. They were out of pancake mix, they declined the biscuits from the neighbors, she didn't eat any of the cookies due to the raisins, and Joel forgot the cake. All of them are seemingly disconnected, until you consider Jakarta. They mentioned problems in Jakarta, one of the worlds largest exporters of flour. If there was any avenue for fungus to spread quickly, it would be through tainted flour... which they avoided that day.
That classroom scene in the beginning where the light reflection kept going on sarah, and she looks up to the kid next to her. You can see the kids arm twitching sporadically, that kid was definitely infected!
Yeah I noticed that my first time watching, I always wondered if they attacked someone at the school and infected them too, it makes me sad knowing children were also bit :(
Oh by the way, the Cordyceps fungus is real and all of that actually happens! The host tries to spread the infection and if an infected ant is discovered by another ant in time, the healthy ant will sacrifice itself taking the infected away from the rest of group
The beginning part about fungus that takes over ants is actually a real thing and probably the most plausible way a zombie outbreak could occur in real life.
that’s why the prospect of this game is so much scarier than other zombie media! they researched a real way an infection could happen and then researched societal psychology while analyzing population antics during huge global events. it’s actually insane how much research went into this game!
I love seeing the reaction of people that haven’t played the game! It’s more authentic in that you can’t say “oh that was in the game” with every scene that happens.
Oh man I can’t wait to watch your reactions especially knowing y’all have not played the games at all. From my perspective as a long time and massive fan of the TLOU games, they absolutely nailed this 1st episode perfectly. The way they balanced new scenes that give you more context for what’s happening and what’s to come with straight out of the video game moments and dialogue was extremely well done. Also the performances as these characters I’ve known and loved for awhile now, were incredible. I mean each character felt exactly like they did in the game. I had very high expectations for this show and not only met them, it completely blew past them. I could not have asked for a better 1st episode honestly. I want the whole season right now man.
90% of VG adaptations SUCK. (And that's a conservative estimate IMO) There is always that precarious balance between respecting the source material so that you honor your existing fan base, yet also be able to cater to, pull in, and hook the non gamers/non fans. But TLOU....fuck. They NAILED IT. An amazing cast in Pascal and Ramsey, a legendary director, the lead writers of the source material, and a studio that doesn't know how to make a bad show. We got ourselves a masterpiece here! And damn good that we do, because TLOU is worthy of being immortalized in our culture.
The acting was PHENOMENAL!! I love how they dragged Sarahs storyline on a bit longer because it made us feel A LOT more connected to her which made her death 100000x harder to watch! But can we just say take a minute and talk about THE DOGS AMAZING ACTING!! Like at this part 6:20 the dog looks genuinely concerned!
I will 100% be following your guys' reactions to this! as someone that has played the game a million times, I LOVE seeing fresh and new reactions like this.
me too! Also seeing these people watch it that haven’t played the game getting immediately interested in playing it after watching the show is so awesome.
I was so glad to find a reaction from people who knew so little! As someone who played the first game way back when it first came out in 2013, nothing surprised me bit it was cool seeing people who were surprised by things. Also the car scene seeming like a video game is fun because it's almost the exact camera angle that that scene has in the game itself
Cordyceps are what Bridgette was talking about with the parasites and they are real. It is a genus of ascomycete fungi that includes about 600 species. Most Cordyceps species are endoparasitoids, parasitic mainly on insects and other arthropods; a few are parasitic on other fungi.
The praying mantis thing is exactly what it is, mutated just like John Hannah predicted in 1968. It's called cordyceps, and it is terrifying. I can't wait for new episodes, I heard that reviewers who have seen other episodes have said that Episode 3 may be the best single episode of TV they've seen. If it's that much better than this awesome episode, it should be mind-blowing.
Finally, a blind reaction! Subscribed to see how u guys enjoy the show. Also - Tommy is not a family friend, it's Joel's brother! And the light that Sarah was seeing was reflected off a classmate's wrist, the person's hand was twitching (early signs of infection) and the light kept bouncing onto her face.
7:04 “I fear tragedy.” Words like these are the best out of reactors lmao I’m not even halfway in and you guys have made me laugh out loud like six times already 😂
You guys are one of my comfort channels. I always watch all your content, which I don’t do on most channels. I’ve been having some shitty days, but coming to watch you guys is like hanging out, eating snacks with friends. Thanks so much for being consistent. That’s an issue with a lot of UA-camrs, not enough consistency, but you channel is fantastic.
I’m pretty jealous that you guys are going into this series completely clean. So far it is staying true to the amazing game but making it it’s own at the same time. I’m glad they’re doing it like that. I wouldn’t want it to be an exact copy. They’re choosing great parts to subtly change and the right parts to be the same. I love it so far.
Green light is usually a transformer going (the cylinder shaped thing on a power pole). When we have hurricanes, I like to sit outside and watch them all light up the sky.
This is a very interesting take on zombies, taking something that actually happens in nature, adding in climate change to make the fungus have to evolve to higher temperature resistance, having their goal be only to spread the fungus (themselves). I mean, we've all seen the nature show where that thing takes over the ants. Fireflies does keep making me think of _Firefly,_ though.
You're quickly becoming one of my favorite reaction channels. Rock on! Also, yeah, fungi scare me too. Will they taste good, kill me, cure infection, or cause wild hallucinations? Who knows!?
The best adaptation of a video game ever made and we are still in the first episode, can’t imagine how good and brutal this will get if this is the start! Btw that info about the fungus in the start of the episode is true this a real fungus that infects zombified ants
If it creeped you out hearing about the Fungus at the beginning, look up of Cordyceps in Ants - it literally already exists IRL, it just can't affect humans. Shits scary a'f and really is what makes The Last of Us really hit as a horror game/show.
The fungi was in the food. in the beginning, they mention Jakarta, where most of the world's flour comes from. in the game, it was said the food was contaminated and that's why everyone got infected. Throughout the episode they don't have pancake mix, they refuse biscuits from the alders and Sarah doesn't eat the cookies and Joel forgets to get a cake all this saved from being the first infected.
My husband played the game and I watched parts here and there. So when the show was announced, he was very excited. I was a little eh about it and wasn't expecting too much. We watched it and he was watching me the entire time because I was in awe of it. I reacted emotionally which is odd for me. I cried. Needless to say, we both enjoyed the show and I'm hooked now. Can't wait to see each and every episode.
Legit been looking around to see ppl who never got to play it. Its a beautiful, heart wrenching story that i feel everyone, not just gamers, need to experience. Glad yall are taking this journey seeing as how its looking to be an amazing show. Highly recommend yall play it too when it releases again in march!! 😊
Glad you guyz started watching this. The opening of the game is so rad. It translated to the screen well. Can't wait to see your reactions to what's ahead.
This reaction brought happiness to me, just seeing all the emotions y’all are going through and not even knowing anything about the game at all. I can definitely tell you most of us who played the game had the same emotions and reactions to the story
Wow, it's actually extraordinary watching someone see it with fresh new eyes. I loved this so much. It's almost like I'm reliving the emotions through you. Stay strong and just as sweet 💗
i was specifically happy and expectant of people who haadn't played the game. a lot of the early posts are gamers so i'm very excited to watch along with you guys and see you experience all the great moments for the first time. that's the best part actually!
That game is the first one that ever punched me in the gut with the Sarah scene. I love the added details they gave. The game starts with the scene on the couch giving the watch so the show made it even more of a punch in the gut as they gave you even more attachment to Sarah. I think the wrench scene with the neighbor where he drops the wrench was a nod to the game as well as him getting his supplies out from under the floor (my take at least). The scene with them driving was perfectly done, that was so much like the game. I also believe that Marlene is played by the same person who played her in the game. Great reaction.
Watching your reaction again as I can't watch Episode 3 till tonight, love 'that's a terrible door, being all open like that'😆 you guys are great, thanks for the videos!
As someone who's played this game so many times that I can almost quote the whole thing word for word... It's really interesting and cool seeing this be someones introduction to the world of The Last of Us.
Dude dont feel sorry at all! I played the game when it came out & love it but what I love about UA-cam is I get to see people's reactions to the universe and story who haven't played the game or know anything about it!:) I love watching new people react to something I love.💕 excited to see your reactions !!
@BRIDGECO, 29:21 I don't think she was. The series starts off with the epidemiologist talking about fungi, right? Fast forward to 2003 and we are with Sarah, Joel and Tommy in the kitchen, talking about pancakes, which they didn't eat. And Tommy smelling food in a container, which he puts back (I'm guess it smelled off), and we later cut to the Adlers eating biscuits on the lawn--later that day Mrs. Adler makes cookies with raisins, something Sarah wants nothing to do with. What's in all these foods that Joel, Tommy and Sarah avoided? Yeast! Sarah's classmate with the bracelet had a twitch arm, that student was very likely infected. Did you have a chance to read the posters in the QZ after they brought the little boy in strapped to the wheel chair? Sarah's classmate, Nana Adler had all the signs on that poster, Sarah had none of them. Joel didn't buy a birthday cake, and had he bought one, he likely would have died that night with Sarah in their home while watching that movie ='( This series did the game justice! It expanded on an already great story/scenes. That opening was all new and great, it gave us a little something the game did not. I don't see them dropping the ball at this point. I think it's safe to say this series is already a homerun. f' it, grand slam!
I'm actually excited to see your reaction even more now that you haven't played the game. Totally down to watch a playthrough when the time comes as well.
Hey guys, first time seeing your content. You two have a great dynamic for reacting! This was definitely the best reaction I've seen and I look forward to coming back for more! :D
I worked in a biscuit factory - after the 6th week, all the newbies had glutted on chocolate, so you'd get delighted hoots for Garibaldi biscuits warm off the line.
So I just happened across your channel looking for TLOU reactions, honestly yours is probably my fave one I've seen so far! Great humor and love that you've never played the game. Insta-sub!
guys I end up here watching reactions, as a big fan of the game, is very refreshing to watch people who does not know the story and get so involved!! I will be looking for your reaction every week! Greetings from Argentina!
This was sooo good. Just so you know, the fungus they are talking about actually exists. If a zombie-like apocalypse were to actually happen, a fungus would be they way it would happen. Great reaction!
seeing one of my favorite stories of all time adapted in a way that gives justice to it is such an amazing feeling, excited for you both to experience the story for the first time!!
What I find super gnarly about the infected as opposed to undead zombies is that according to the in universe science, they are tripping balls heroically while the fungus drop kicks their aggression centers(of the brain). I think that's why so clumsy while raging out.
That zoom in on the scream mask, you guys are hilarious. Kinda glad you're going in blind. Happy to go through this series with you. Strap in it's gonna be wild ride.
It wasn't Sarah who was infected, it was the boy in the schoolroom with the gold bracelet, he was twitching. This 'episode 1' is actually episodes 1 & 2 put together. The original episode 1 was to have ended with Joel tossing the dead boy into the fire. In the game you could also become infected by spores from infected who reached the end of the infection cycle and died... Like the fungus man on the wall. But in the TV show I believe there are no spores, so no need for gas masks which would have been bad for film. Instead we now have the fungal tendrils coming from the mouth of the 'runners' (the first stage of infection).
I was actually looking forward to watching a blind reaction like this! And I’m sure many other people are as well. Can’t wait to follow y’all through this journey since you have no idea what’s coming
The Last of Us has become the show Ive watched the most PURELY because I love to watch the reactions of people, like you two, who are not familiar with the games. The game itself is one of the vest story telling games ever and the show did it justice! Cant wait to watch the rest of your reactions to The Last of Us
I'm actually more hyped for this reaction because of your lack of knowledge when it comes to the games lol it'll be super interesting seeing you play them after too. This is going to be a fun journey.
I don't play many video games, but I heard good things about the story so back when it came out I watched a play-through. This first episode is so good, it looks so much like the game, and even has some of the score.
I haven’t played it either! Went in completely blind just knew that I heard it was good lmao. I’ve been loooving it and also loving hearing what people who have played the game think.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I actually love that you’re one of the few reactors who didn’t play or know much about the game. That’s makes it more interesting as a viewer.
absolutely LOVED this reaction def will be back for more. def dont apologize, it's a feature not a bug that you have zero last of us knowledge! i almost wish i didn't have any game knowledge so the show could blow my mind because i'm getting the feeling this is actually gonna be the best version of the story. they're nailing it
Super late to these videos lol but at 10:10 after Joel hits infected nana with the wrench and drops it, I think he dropped it because nanas blood got on it and it’s the very beginning of sh*t hitting the fan and they have no idea how whatever it is spreads and probably didn’t wanna chance it lol just a thought. I watched this show blind as well, having never played the game, enjoying you guys going in blind as well!
Wanna know something that will keep you up at night? This already happened with varieties of the Candida Fungi. It evolved to survive in humans across the world simultaneously, spread in yeast, and most adults have it growing inside them already. Can alter the body so you skin and organ problems, usually mild though. Can alter the mind to make you crave carbs that it feeds on inside your gut. If you've taken antibiotics at any point as an adult, you almost definitely have the fungi in your body, as the antibiotics kill the good bacteria in your gut that keeps you safe. There are plenty of videos on how to fix the issues, mostly with diet and probiotics. If candida can evolve and affect so much of the human population, without most people even being aware, so can the others. We're gonna get it soon enough.
Don't feel sorry for not having experience with the content you are watching, most of us who enjoys reactions are in fact looking for people who has no experience with it, so its actually a bonus :), love from Brazil!

It's funny you mention Peacemaker right before the tall guy in the 60s flashback was the creepy cop in Peacemaker lol
This was sooo good. Just so you know, the fungus they are talking about actually exists. If a zombie-like apocalypse were to actually happen, a fungus would be they way it would happen. Great reaction!
So many people don't realize that lol they just say it can't infect humans yet...
"thats a terrible door"
"wtf man i was proud of that one" - the person who made the door
cody always guessing the plot and being spot on is so crazy
seeing one of my favorite stories of all time adapted in a way that gives justice to it is such an amazing feeling, excited for you both to experience the story for the first time!!
At around @9:54, its a subtle nod to the game. Joel would pick up a melee weapon, beat someone and then drop it because it wasn't useful anymore.
Trust me we're so excited to see what folks who haven't played the game think. I'm so ready for this reaction series from someone who has NO idea.
YESSSSSSS i can't tell you how much i love the game and how amazing it is to see it on the screen, i'm sure you'll love it
What I find super gnarly about the infected as opposed to undead zombies is that according to the in universe science, they are tripping balls heroically while the fungus drop kicks their aggression centers(of the brain).
Cant wait to watch the rest of your reactions to The Last of Us
You guys are my new favourite channel! 😊
Are you a mushroom?🤣 That was brilliant
I haven’t played it either! Went in completely blind just knew that I heard it was good lmao. I’ve been loooving it and also loving hearing what people who have played the game think.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I actually love that you’re one of the few reactors who didn’t play or know much about the game. That’s makes it more interesting as a viewer.
The second Joel and Sarah had the gun pointed at them I felt like Mathew McConaughey in interstellar screaming
"NO! NO!! NOO!"
"Are you alone?"
"Are you a mushroom?"
LOL
absolutely LOVED this reaction def will be back for more. def dont apologize, it's a feature not a bug that you have zero last of us knowledge! i almost wish i didn't have any game knowledge so the show could blow my mind because i'm getting the feeling this is actually gonna be the best version of the story. they're nailing it
Bout the pancakes, Cody says: “You guys have any flour? It’s pretty easy to make” If you only knew, my man. If you only knew. 🤣🤣🤣
You don't need a bowl of snacks for this one but a box of tissues.
