I've water canned for years but never pressure canned. I recently bought this specific pressure canner and I loved your video! It was so detailed, informative and helpful! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Excellent Video! Hubby just called me from a Hardware store, and asked if I wanted the Presto 23 Qt (knowing my frustration with high cost of All American) I said, I'll call u back. FIRST video I found was you. OMG you are so right UNDERSTANDING all the parts is crucial. What an informative, perfectly detailed explanation! I am creating a "Check List" to print out. I am so excited to get my tomatoes out of the freezer now. Girl I am ready!
Oh my gosh thank you, even reading the instructions in my new presto canner, being such a newbie…I felt so intimidated and confused! You have eased my mind so much! Thank you so much for this video! 😅
I want to thank you Abby . I was about to throw my canner in the trash. I couldn’t hold pressure in the canner I had to watch it like a hawk. Really sucked for an hour and a half of my day. You told me about the cover block vent thingy. Mine wasn’t screwed on tight and that is why I couldn’t hold pressure. I tightened it and now I am re processing my food and it has been wonderful. No loss of pressure . You saved me.
I also just received a Presto 23 quart canner for my birthday yesterday. I watched your video and it clarified the steps for safe use. I canned my first batch of veggies for my pantry today and was pleased with the result! Thank you Abbey - I plan to use your videos to help me stock my pantry. I just retired this year and never had the time to do this until now and I am so excited. Thanks again!!
I used my Presto 16-quart pressure canner last night for the first time. Although I strictly followed the instructions in the owner's manual I was a little cautious and stood a little further away during the venting process. It was just an experiment to get familiar with pressure canning, which I had no previous experience with. Still, I wanted to watch this informative video. Thank you for uploading, Abbey.
THANK YOU for helping me be brave enough to finally use my pressure canner! I’ve read the directions so many times, but was still hesitant because I was afraid of blowing up my kitchen 😅 Watching your video was extremely helpful (especially to see you walk through the process and explain all the parts), and now I’m actually excited for my first pressure canning sesh! 😁🙌🏻💕
I just started my practice run with my 16 qt. Presto canner, thanks to you! While a little nervous, I was no longer scared to start! Doing the practice run while taking notes made it so that my 1st run of canning went off smoothly! I found that once I put the weight on, it was a lot easier to control the pressure by bringing it up slowly. When I brought it up quickly, my pressure required far more baby sitting and was all over the place. So, thank you for that tip too!
I just received a Presto 23 quart canner. I am SO happy to have come across this video! You made me feel much more comfortable about using it. Thank you for taking time to show all the parts!
My grandmother taught me to can with her pressure canner in the late 70's. I'm not sure the brand she had (it was very old)..but my first canner was a Presto and I loved it so much! As my family grew, I graduated to the All American canner. It was quite the adjustment. This is a great beginners video. I will share with my homemaker friends. Thank you for sharing!
I bought presto 23qt canner 3 years ago and after reading instructions I put it back in box and never used it ...after watching ya video I'm going to try it today ..thx for great video
Perfect descriptions, I have water bathed before, but not pressure canned. I was always afraid, when I was little I saw a lid from one stay on but the food came volcano out. 😮 But this year, I need to step up my game. Thank you for inspiring me. God bless and be safe 🙏 ❤️
First time watching your channel after watching so many on pressure canning. You explained everything perfectly, answered all my questions, and took the fear out of using a pressure canner. Thank you for sharing.⚘️greedings from Phoenix Az🌵🌞
Best video I have seen. I have been watching videos for a few days. I was but real bad as a young teenager so I am pretty intimidated by them. I watched this one and I am on my to do a test run just like you showed. How says you can't teach a old dog new tricks. Thank you kindly.
I am a "Born again" canner. I used to to can tomatoes and green beans years ago. These "newer" models are very nice. If possible get a "jiggler", they are practically fool-proof! Gauges show the difference in pressure between the steam inside the canner and the room air. I am at 1300 feet above sea level, the adjustment isn't much. In Denver or Flagstaff, knowing the time required for your "expected pressure" becomes more important. The boiling water isn't as hot as it would be at lower altitudes, so longer cooking times might be required for some items (typically meats). Salt (or acid) usually preserves vegetables and fruits with less cooking.
Thanks so much! Watching so many videos as I just got my 22QT preowned Presto and want to do the canning test process to make sure all works properly. Appreciate your clear tutorial.
Thank you! I have done a lot of waterbath canning but was very intimidated by the pressure canner. I just bought the Presto and your video explaining all the safety features just took away any intimidation I had about using this.. May you be blessed with abundance and well being. 💜
Thank you for your wonderful channel it is such a blessing I have tuned in for some time finally purchased a presto canner Today I followed your uncomplicated instructions with success and have our 1st batch processing - green beans from the garden Again thank you for your kind encouragement and wonderful recipes In grace
I have been canning for many years but we've done a lot of moving around the past 6 years so have not used my Presto canner. This was a fantastic reintroduction into everything I needed to know to refresh my canning skills! Thank you for making a no-nonsense, no-blather video that was informative and pleasant to watch as well. I have subscribed to your channel now!
Thanks!!! I'm doing veggie soup in pint jars using this canner. I'll add three quarts water and use the extra rack I ordered. Process at 11 pounds for 75 minutes
thank you for your video. I have this same canner but have never canned in my life and was somewhat afraid since I remember my mom saying to me (55 years ago) that pressure cookers can blow up. I selected this canner after researching the safety features but, until your video, I never felt comfortable enough to begin...thank you, again, for the step by step information.
Thank you for this video! It was straight forward and I felt like you were with me in my kitchen walking me through. I had a successful first pressure canning experience that I am confident in thanks to you!
Such a simple yet detail explanation of the canning process, thank you. I just purchased the exact same canner and this will be my first go at using it. Thank you so much for the video!
Best info video ever. First time using this pressure canner and was so scared to try it. I feel comfortable after watching your video. Now I know what every little part does and how to do this process. Thank you very much for sharing this video. ❤
Thank you so much for this video! I received my Presto canner and I’m canning green beans today! I didn’t know to let it vent 10 minutes and then put the regulator on!!! Love this video and info!!
@@abbeyverigin yes everything went well and I’ve canned 2 bushels of white half runner green beans so far and I’ve also canned dill pickles with the water bath method and I made your recipe for the brine to ferment some as well! I love all your videos and information! Thank you!
Thank you for this great beginner video! I've had my Presto canner for 5 years, and it's still in the box! lol This really helps to encourage me to get at it... thanks again.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I needed this because I was so intimidated watching this boosted my confidence. Thank you again.
Thank you so much for this video! I really wanted an all American but I have a GE glass top & it really didn’t seem to be a good idea because of the weight. I saw where you said that same thing in a comment reply(confirmation👍) You have made me feel much more confident about the Presto as that was my next choice. You have a new subscriber! Thanks so much for what you do👍👏👏
I’m so glad it was helpful! I too really wanted an All American but didn’t want to risk it. The presto gets the job done and is super easy to use. Happy to have you here! Thanks for watching.
That was a great video I really appreciate the detailed information on how that works I actually just ordered my presto pressure canner and looking forward to having it in a couple of days. I'm new to canning but really excited about learning something new. You have a fantastic and blessed day
Thank you so much for this video. I'm new to canning and I've wb a few things but have been nervous about pc. This was so helpful and did help me relax a little about pc.

Thanks for doing this video. I have a pressure canner and electric stove. I'm very leary of using it. However I would be more comfortable practicing with jars of water first but had not thought of that
Thank you for this 🙏🏻. Could you show how to store the can’s? Is there a curtain way? I hear many things like turning the bottles up side down? (If why and how long?) After presure cooking, remove the rings? ( why, how? Isn’t that what secures the jar? It’s a bit of a give away 🙄 but I’m new at this but very interested. So again, thank you so much for this, it was very informative to begin with. 🙏🏻✌🏼
Thank you so much for this video. Could you share how you clean and store your canner? Does the dial gage need to be removed, or can the lid be flipped upside when storing? Does the gasket need to be removed and washed every time? Thank you so much!
I loved your video. I have the same Presto canner that you demonstrated and have been using it for 3 years. However, I haven’t used it since last summer and the last time I used it last week the air vent lock after it popped up did still continue to vent some steam. I can’t remember if this is ok and nowhere on the manual does it talk about it. I couldn’t tell on the video if any steam escaped on yours. The canner does not have any trouble getting to 11# or maintaining the pressure. The jars all sealed. Should I be concerned about this or is this normal? I have canned all my life mostly water bath canning but in the last few years I have enjoyed being able to put up non-acidic foods. Thanks for the great video.
I’m happy to hear that! Do you mean flavor wise or safety? The ball canning books are a good place to start for tested recipes. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by meat. It is so tender pressure canned. Carrots do get soft and aren’t as flavorful as fresh but we still do them anyway to have them on hand for quick meals.
This video is very helpful thank you! I tested my pressure canner but the pressure valve starts to turn around when the pressure is building up around 10 and it doesn’t get any higher since it’s releasing some pressure if that makes sense, I’m dutch sorry. If i put a towel on top and press the valve a little bit down it builds up pressure again. If i remove the towel to press it start twisting around again. I filmed it but I don’t know it i can show that here?
I'm hoping you are available for some advice. I just started my canner but realized I put the bolt without washer on the wrong side! Any suggestions, since realized after it is come to pressure! Thanks for any help.
This video was incredibly helpful. I do have one question… I know that if it goes below it, you have to restart the time if it goes above it I am assuming it’s fine?
hi, really helpful video. I use a similar pressure canner but I don't have the instructions for the water usage. How much water should I put before starting the procedure?
Hello, best to look up the manual online as It could be different for different brands. Usually it is 3 quarts, or see if the fill line is marked on the inside of the pot.

can't you water bath can in a pressure canner ? wondered why folks have both...maybe because they started with water bath canning ?
Yes, I water bath in my 16 qt presto canner. I use a lid that has a vent in it or tilt the presto canner lid.

Hi, been canning with mine over 15 years, also do roasts, boils, broth/stock. Do you have videos cooking in the cooker/canner,? Appreciate it tyvm
So helpful thank you. Is the regulator supposed to jiggle when you hit the 10 psi? Mine didn’t and I always thought it was supposed to jiggle.
This video is very helpful thank you! Thank you!
This video was incredibly helpful. I do have one question… I know that if it goes below it, you have to restart the time if it goes above it I am assuming it’s fine?
Happy to hear it was helpful! Yes that’s correct. No need to reset the time if pressure goes above, just if it drops below.
I will likely never do this, but was curious how it worked. Excellent presentation
hi, really helpful video. I use a similar pressure canner but I don't have the instructions for the water usage. How much water should I put before starting the procedure?
Hello, best to look up the manual online as It could be different for different brands. Usually it is 3 quarts, or see if the fill line is marked on the inside of the pot.
Great vid!
Thank you!
When would the giggler start moving if you were going to finish your process? Have you ever taken your pressure canners into the extension office to have your gage and canner checked?
