I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you took the time to do this video and explain it all in such detail! In getting my Presto Pressure Canner out tomorrow and going to finish my canning on my glass stop stove!
We just bought a presto 23qt pressure canner with the induction, flat, electric, and gas stove use. How did your experience go? Looks like a year has went by, so thought maybe you had some pointers specific to our set up. Thank you
I have the same exact stove! Last night we pressure canned 20 pints of chicken, broth, and bone broth. We didn’t make any mistakes and all of the pints sealed. Thank goodness! We did however learn ways of doing canning more efficiently, as it took all day to cook 3 whole chickens in our instant pot and make the bone broth as well as pressure canning it all. Being our first time, my hubby and I are both happy with the outcome! Pressure canning chicken breast and hamburger tonight and tomorrow night as well. :)
I have the Presto 23 qt induction canner. I use it on a stand alone Simply Ming 1800 WATT induction burner. No problem reaching and maintaining pressure.
I found the perfect solution for me. I got the Presto Digital Prssure Canner and the Ball Electric Water Bath Canner + Multi-Cooker. Since my electric glass top can't hold the proper temp for 90 minutes, I needed sometning that wouldn't effect my blood pressue and I found them.
I was looking into buying an induction burner at home depot and I found out that the presto pressure canner does not work with the induction burner . I was told that the induction burner works with a magnet to work and magnet does not stick on presto presser canner
Wow, this is the best information I've heard yet. I do have a glass cook top stove and I opted for the presto pot, both sizes. I haven't canned yet, but getting ready to. Thank you for this great information.
I'm just now considering canning since we planted a large garden this year. It's a little overwhelming knowing what equipment to purchase so your video was a great resource. Thank you!
I have an all American 921 canner and a glass top stove. I have used both together several times without a problem. I prefer to use my propane burner on my grill, though.
Good to know! I did speak with management at the All American Canner company after creating this video. They removed the warnings on the website for the 925 and smaller canners. Any All American Canner that is larger than the 925 can not be used on glass top stoves per All American.
I’ve been waterbath canning on my LG glass top range in that blue canner for 4 years. Never noticed the bottom wasn’t flat 😮. Now I got to go check…first thing in the morning 🤭. Been canning for 3 days straight now I learned this🤦🏽♀️🤣
I tried twice pressure canning on my glass top stove and both times I ended up with broken jars i'm not new to canning and have not had this issue cannig outside om propane, My glasstop stove constantly cycles on and off and I think that is the issue
That would be induction stove right? Mine does that too. I had a perfect outcome on the AA 910 but about to see how it goes with my 930. Just trying broth for the first round.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I have been concerned about getting a pressure canner. Saw one like yours(the 16 quart size) for $99 in Walmart. Went online to look at other pressure cookers and saw the same one for $78. I took that as a sign it’s time to buy. So I did. We been staring 👁️👁️👀at each other for 4 days. Then I found your video. 🥹 She’s coming out the box. 🤗Thank you so much.
You are welcome! I do have a pre-recorded canning course that is currently on sale for the holidays for only $49! You might want to check it out! Here is the link: www.allabouttheharvest.com/wbcc
Thank you. I have a GE electric glass top stove. I just started canning and I’m using the Nesco electric pressure canner. So far I like it. But you can only do 4 quart jars or 5 pint jars. Not horrible though. It’s very easy to use so far.
One thing to note about aluminum canners that should be mentioned, is that aluminum is softer than the glass/ceramic tops. When you boil you have a heavy soft aluminum jiggling on a hard surface. If there's anything abrasive, or any scratch in the glass surface, it will rub aluminum off the pot and glaze onto your stove surface. If it's a light glazing you can get it off with some barkeeper's friend, but if there's scratches, that aluminum will be in there permanently and will not scrub out of the scatches.. For induction, you can buy a steel conduction plate in whatever diameter you need. It sits between the induction top, and the pot, so the induction coil heats the conduction plate to create the heat, and then the aluminum pot is on a hot steel plate.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I canned many years ago, moved and sold all my canning stuff and didn't can for many years. Now, I am back into it now that I have a garden. I love learning from young people like you, and am thankful you chose UA-cam to get out the info.
I have been using a Granite Ware water bath canner on my Whirlpool glass top range for many years.. never had a problem with it.. canned pickles, tomatoes, pickled beets..
We bought all new appliances approx. 10 years ago. I've always canned on the new glass top stove, even though hearing I shouldn't after buying it. It works, I've never had a jar not seal, but I'm not in love with it. HOWEVER, it seems that even the "regular" stoves "follow" the new energy efficient guidelines, sooooo .....
Question, Can you use the blanching water to fill the jars or do you need fresh water for that. Since I haul all of my drinking and cooking water I don't like to waste any. Just curious 🤔
I just recently watched your video on canning on a glass top stove. I have no problem but as I use it the spill over leaves burnt on messes. I used the recommended product to clean and it still didn’t get it all off. I was wondering as a long time canner if you could suggest something
Yes! I actually created a video on how to clean glass top stoves and this is how I clean off those burnt on messes: ua-cam.com/video/F6-pn2zFptE/v-deo.html
I have a glass top stove and mine does not recommend pressure canning on it. Can anyone recommend a portable burner that would work for the 16 quart Presto pressure canner?
Jodie- if I didn’t mind spending the extra money on the induction compatible canner - are the two equal otherwise. Like is there any reason I would need to hesitate getting the induction one - are there different ‘rules’ to the two? Or all the same other than one is induction compatible. I have a glass top so I want to make sure it’s usable on that as well. Thanks for this great information/video!!
I have an older Presto, 16 qt, and the manual says it's "not designed" for glass top. Not sure why - it has a flat bottom and everything 😂 The stove manufacturer (GE) says that you can can on their stoves 🤷♀️
I got excited when you suggested a single induction burner for the canner. Then realized most canners are made of aluminum which doesn’t work on induction. I researched a bit and there is one mention of ‘induction friendly’ Presto canners. Thinking maybe that recessed plate on the bottom is coated in stainless steel? I haven’t found any more info yet but will call presto if necessary. Thanks for your video.🙂
@@treasuresabound0062 I opted for an All-American 915. I wanted USA-made all along but the price made me dizzy. As far as the All American goes, I spoke with them directly after making this video and they said the 925 and smaller are OK to use on the Glass top stove and have taken the warning off of their website. @@AllAboutTheHarvestI just upgraded to a 930 🙏🏼 it fits on the glass top large burner ok. I’ve already successfully canned with my smaller All American 910. I always keep a VERY close eye on it and will be extra diligent with the large one.
I have the black with white speckles type waterbath pot. It does not have a smooth bottom and I've been using it on my glass top stove for over 5 years with 0 issues so far. So please don't say you can't use it won't work.
So if I'm here and you correctly.. I have a Whirlpool glass top stove. The largest burner I have is 9 in. I checked the manual and it says for it's not to go over a half an inch. And it is okay to can on it. So the overhang doesn't get hot enough to damage the cooktop?
It sounds like your manual is saying you can use anything with a 9.5 inch bottom on your largest burner. That extra half of an inch overhang won't damage your cooktop.
I have two All Americans 910 (10.5 qt.) and the 921 (21.5 qt.) that I use with my glass top stove. I use them weekly and have not had any issues. I checked the manufacturers info for my stove and it stated they could be used I believe All American has updated their information on glass top stoves.
You are correct, All American has since updated their information on glass top stoves. I actually met with them in person and mentioned I couldn't use their canners due to owning a glass top stove. They were unaware that they still had those warnings on their webpage. They told me anything from the 925 or smaller can be used on the flat top stoves. After I spoke with them they updated their webpage. 😉
Hi could you please recommend an induction cook top that would fit the pressure canner? Thanks for doing this vid. I'm new to canning and have been nervous to try due to my flat top stove😊
For 2 years, I have used a portable single Viking induction eye that I store away when not in use. I use the induction friendly model Presto canner and have had no problems.
I have a monster All American Pressure Canner, 925= 25 quarts. I have a Kenmore Model 790. Furthermore, I have pressure canned with this setup for over 10 years. My Kenmore stove says to not have any pot that extends more than 1 inch past the outer ring on the element. Mine is 1/4" past the limit .. Sue me. lol The stove manual does make some good points, though ... NEVER run the oven while pressure canning, too much heat, NEVER run the pressure canner longer than 2 hours straight, and NEVER set the element temp dial to MAX/HIGH when attempting to bring a cold pressure canner up to steam mode, turn it to about 8/10, to give the glass top stove a chance to cycle while heating, which gives it a chance to cool a bit. My model stove can hold a max of 50 pounds of combined weight, A 925 All American Pressure Canner weighs 25 pounds but with water and jars in it, which can add another 20 to 30 pounds, I'm careful because I'm at the stove limit. PS: I used an outdoor BBQ with a propane side burner, but because the pressure canner was COLD when I first placed it on the burner, I have about 2 pound of SOOT all over the bottom and up the sides of my shiny pressure canner, it now looks like it's 50 years old. It took forever to clean the canner without inducing a million micro scratches.
You'd have to weigh the pros and cons AND it would depend on how heavy your pressure canner is. If you are using a lighter one like the Presto, that will always be better from a weight perspective. Also, some people say things that are older were built better. Finally, if you have water bath canned with success on that stove I would think you could pressure can with no problem. But again, the ultimate decision is up to you. If it were me, I would do it.
I just used a graniteware canner to water bath can a few jars of pickles on my flat top stove- everything went seemingly fine but my question is, are my pickles going to be unsafe to eat??
Your pickles will be fine provided you followed a safe, tested and approved canning recipe and that your water kept boiling for the entire duration (ie: It didn't go below a full rolling boil while you were canning it).
I'm a newbie . Bought a 16 quart Presto pressure canner and having trouble with siphoning. I find it difficult to maintain right temperatures. ALL my jars siphoned about 1 inch below headspace. I'm so frustrated and giving up on canning... Help!
With my 23 quart presto I end up turning it to the lowest settings to maintain the pressure heat after it has reached and surpassed the minimal pressure. I do this slowly and gradually. Also, liquids that siphon out can be caused by various things. Make sure you let your pressure canner cool naturally on it's own. Don't force cool it at all or take the pressure regulator (or weighted gauge) off too soon.
So my Burner is 9in and the bottom of my 16 quart Presto is just like yours 8in so with the burner being larger than the 8in area in the bottom of the pan is that okay
I am just getting started on my canning journey. I purchased the Presto 23 quart induction compatible pressure canner. Do you include the cast iron burner cooktops as ones to avoid with the electrics?
Hi NHOptimist, When you say cast iron burner cooktops do you mean gas stoves? If so, you can use anything on them. I might be misunderstanding your question.
Personally I like the dial gauge because I can see where I'm at pressure wise. With weighted gauge pressure canners you can 'hear' when it is at the correct pressure but I feel like there is room for error in the beginning. If you let too much steam out (because when it moves it let's steam/water out), you can run the risk of boiling your canner dry). On the other hand, with the dial gauge you need to get it tested regularly to verify it is reading accurately (this is usually done for free at a local extension office, or you can send in to presto to have them check it). There are other things, but those are some things to think about. I would always get one with a dial pressure gauge personally.
I just received mine. The Manuel says we should have gotten the red top 5lb. My question is on the lid one side has the little rod sticking out to lock in but my other side doesn't. Is that how it is supposed to be? I'm thinking I got sent a return item.
I have ordered a 23Qt Presto canner and I just found out that the max weight capacity per the 8inch burner is 50lbs. Is it still safe to can?? How many Qts can I put inside the pressure cooker at one time?? Thank you for this video.
That pressure canner fits 7 quart jars. If your stovetop only allows for 50lbs of weight I would weigh the pressure canner with the water and lid on. Then you will know how much available weight you have for canning jars filled with food. You should still be fine to can all 7 quarts at one time.
If it makes no mention of canning (like my manual) then I would can on it following the restrictions based on size of your canner and burner (per your manual)> You would want to get the Presto Induction pressure canner for pressure canning. It can also be used as a water bath canner as well.
So much for canning for me this year, I don't have a Presto pressure canner, can't afford it. I only have a black specled, wavy bottom water bath canner.....:(
I verified this that the canners are made with cast aluminum from WAFCO (the company that makes the All American canners). It is made from Cast Aluminum, not billet aluminum. They used to have that on their website, then they revamped their website completely and it wasn't listed on their site. So I reached out to them in an email and this was their response: To follow up to your question about what the pressure canners are made of: it is made of cast aluminum. It is not made of billet aluminum. I will work to get this added to our website so it can be verified on there in the future."
I would not can on the glass cook top with the All American. That being said, get an outdoor LP stove top and can outside in the summer. I see a lot of channels here on YT use their All American Canners outside or inside if they have a regular type electric burner stoves. Hope this helps.
@@gr82bloved43 Since creating this video I contacted the All American company and they told me you can use the 925 or smaller on glass top stoves. They have now removed their warning from the website. You just want to make sure your warranty is still valid (check your owner's manual like I mentioned in the video). Your 921 should be fine to use on your glass top stove.

I have updated the link in the description to point to the free introductory canning guide now. And yes, the guide is free :-)
In the nicest way possible it is a little frustrating that in the first 7 or 9 minutes the same thing is repeated and it doesn't add to the video. I would have said it in private but I don't have your email address. Sorry though
The UA-cam algorithm ranks longer videos higher, so going over 10 minutes is suggested. If everyone is doing over 10 minutes, then that is a starting point, so many people do 13-17 min videos. It's annoying as heck, especially is they don't give you a table showing their video subjects in description or split the video into segments on the scroll bar.
Thank you!! I do have a couple scratches (my friend dragged my canner across the stove without lifting it). I DO clean my stove with baking soda and a little water to get the burnt food off the stovetop. I use a nylon (non-abrasive) scrubby as well. That works nicely.
Girl get to the point. Stop saying how you're going to talk about something next or you're going to get to it later and just get to it. Waisting people's time lol.

I have a 20 yr old glass cook top, GE, I have W B not sure about pressure canning thoy.Any advice?
You'd have to weigh the pros and cons AND it would depend on how heavy your pressure canner is. If you are using a lighter one like the Presto, that will always be better from a weight perspective. Also, some people say things that are older were built better. Finally, if you have water bath canned with success on that stove I would think you could pressure can with no problem. But again, the ultimate decision is up to you. If it were me, I would do it.
Really informative
great info! thanks
Wonderful video. Thank you.
Yes, that is fine.
What do you think of using the 16qt presto pressure canner since it doesn’t have that gauge on top?
Great information, thanks!
You are welcome :-)
so, on your stove, which burner are you using with your presto pressure canner?
I use the one on the front right when looking at the stove.
I just received mine. The Manuel says we should have gotten the red top 5lb. My question is on the lid one side has the little rod sticking out to lock in but my other side doesn't. Is that how it is supposed to be? I'm thinking I got sent a return item.
What did you receive?
@@AllAboutTheHarvest the exact same pressure canner
@@AllAboutTheHarvest I've got it figured out.
I have a burner with 6.25” or 9”. For the 8” bottom of the 23 at presto, which of the two should I use?
Based on my stovetop recommendations I would use the 9 inch burner. You will want to see what your manual says specifically.
@@AllAboutTheHarvest Thanks. I ended up using the larger of the two, and it worked great.
My manual makes no mention of canning. I have an induction cooktop.
If it makes no mention of canning (like my manual) then I would can on it following the restrictions based on size of your canner and burner (per your manual)> You would want to get the Presto Induction pressure canner for pressure canning. It can also be used as a water bath canner as well.
Thank you so much!
So much for canning for me this year, I don't have a Presto pressure canner, can't afford it.
I only have a black specled, wavy bottom water bath canner.....:(
The AA canner is actually billet aluminum. Big difference. Much higher quality than cast.
Thank you so much ! I had no idea 🤷♀️ about the all American(that I just got for Mother’s Day )… I have a glass stove … so now what?
I would not can on the glass cook top with the All American. That being said, get an outdoor LP stove top and can outside in the summer. I see a lot of channels here on YT use their All American Canners outside or inside if they have a regular type electric burner stoves. Hope this helps.
Do you know which size of the All American you have??
@@AllAboutTheHarvest 921
@@gr82bloved43 Since creating this video I contacted the All American company and they told me you can use the 925 or smaller on glass top stoves. They have now removed their warning from the website. You just want to make sure your warranty is still valid (check your owner's manual like I mentioned in the video). Your 921 should be fine to use on your glass top stove.
@@AllAboutTheHarvest thank you 😊
So if the bottom of my canner is slightly wobbly on a flat surface, I shouldn’t use it?
I wouldn't.
What is a glass top stove?
The induction cook top does not accept canners that do not have a magnetic bottom, you need a transfer plate to use them.
Thank you very much for this super helpful video. Saved a few bucks on the Wallaby mylars, signed up for the wait list and holding back on a purchase I was planning to make. Great video-shared! Winner video!
Wonderful! My Water Bath Canning with confidence course is available on demand now. My pressure canning course does have a wait list though. Here is how you can sign up for the Water Bath Canning with Confidence course: www.allabouttheharvest.com/wbcc
@@AllAboutTheHarvest Thank you. Enjoy your weekend.
Now where did I put that owner's manual for that glass top range I purchased a dozen years ago? LOL!
You can always do an online search for the manual for your range and you will likely find a pdf of it. Good luck!
I get the vibe she is pushing sake foe presto
I have no affiliate with Presto. I just actually like the Presto canner better for multiple reasons.
The link to the free introduction on caning don't have it. It's all not for free. Click bait.
@Good View here is the link to the free guide to canning. www.allabouttheharvest.com/canningguide
I appologize, the link I had listed, WAS where I housed the free canning guide and I recently changed where that link pointed when I started offering my pre-recorded canning course a few months ago. I have updated the link in the description to point to the free introductory canning guide now. And yes, the guide is free :-)
Not me getting this video recommended after I've just canned on my glass top stove 😅
Just got thru calling Frigidaire. You can CAN on glass top as long as the canner is a FLAT bottom canner
Good to know! Thanks for sharing so others know as well!
💚🌱
What’s a canner, canning? 😮
You brought up weight, but failed to mention that the weight limit of a glass top stove is 50 lbs.
That isn't true for all models which is why I stress that you consult your manual. I have a Samsung glass top stove and they tested safe at 65 pounds.
I don't see why boiling water isn't just boiling water and the same high temperature.
Totally NOT related to canning, but...HOW do you keep your glass top stove soooo clean and SCRATCH FREEEEE???? 😂
Thank you!! I do have a couple scratches (my friend dragged my canner across the stove without lifting it).
I DO clean my stove with baking soda and a little water to get the burnt food off the stovetop. I use a nylon (non-abrasive) scrubby as well. That works nicely.
Boring
Girl get to the point. Stop saying how you're going to talk about something next or you're going to get to it later and just get to it. Waisting people's time lol.
Great video, thank you!
Thank you so much!
Amazing video! Thank you!
