Tis the damn season is one of my all time favorite taylor songs. I see it as a song about two people who are both hurting in different ways and kept apart by circumstances coming back together briefly to find comfort in eachother. It's something they both always wonder about. The road always come back to him. She wishes he would wait but she won't ask. He wishes she'd stay but he won't ask.
Yes, I always see it as a pair with Dorothea, and I love both of them and the story in them
It's the sister song of Dorothea. The Hollywood star who went back to her hometown for the holidays and falls back to bed with her highschool sweetheart. My favorite is when she says "I wont ask you to wait if you don't ask me to stay".

Gold Rush is about having a crush and imagining scenarios with them but she doesn’t like having a crush on someone everyone wants and it all just fades into the grey of her day old tea because she’s been daydreaming about it for too long that her tea is a day old meaning she snaps back into reality after daydreaming about her crush for too long of a time. I think of this the damn season from a college perspective… had something, not serious enough to change plans, but still real good.. come home Christmas and summer break,wishing to pick back up because only sweet memories, nothing bad came between us, just different paths/plans, will it turn into something bigger or just fade away…no hard feelings if either of us move on to something else, just think omg he was such a sweet, warm, fun guy…hope you found love Eddie🥰

She wrote Champagne Problems with Joe. They had a weird thing where they enjoyed writing sad songs together. How much truth seeped in? who knows?
As far as her lyrics that “seem” to be autobiographical, yet don’t really, it could be an amalgam of fiction and a mix of the emotional elements of her life. That’s why it feels like it’s a real Taylor story. We need to give her cred for being a real artist capable of writing about unknown characters with universal themes and emotions. Thank you T for growing and spreading your artistic wings!

Something great taylor does is give a phrase a new or secondary meaning. So champagne problems is I think a way of playing on the existing meaning but adding the layer of issues around things that should be a celebration (like the wasted champagne the sister brought).

Yeah, I definitely view Dorothea/Tis the Damn Season as two sides of the same story, where Dorothea comes first chronologically. Like they dated in school, but then she left town to pursue her dreams. So Dorothea is him watching her become a star and the sentiment that if she ever wanted to give up the fame and come home, he'd be there for her. And then Tis the Damn Season is her reconnecting with him when she does actually come back into town, and part of her wishes she could stay and choose him. But in the end, they both know that she's going to go back to her life (and he'll stay in his), so it's really just an escape to what might've been.

As far as we know, YB never proposed at all. However, Taylor wrote a song on Lover, saying she would marry him even with a paper ring, because she loved him so much.
Champagne Problems was supposedly written as a collaboration of storytelling by Taylor and YB, the prospective groom, the crazy girlfriend he met in college, who turned down his marriage proposal, and their whole story, are fictional.

Between "Back to December"... the college/November/Christmas reference in "Champagne Problems"... and then "Midnight Rain"... I actually think those are all about Taylor Lautner. There was rumor back then that he had proposed to her and she said no cuz she was still early in her career and wanted to pursue that more before settling down.

A thought on Gold Rush: Remember in her formative dating years, she was the target of loads of hate & slut shaming in large part because the boy band girlies didn't think she was worthy of their beloved Joe Jonas & especially Harry Styles. She's been burned by the gold rush effect multiple times and she's always been really insecure- like she's the only person who forgets she's Taylor Swift, glorious pop goddess.

i know this vid is old but imma comment anyway.
y’all were talking about how much of the songs on the album are stories or not. my take has always been that the songs were either semi real depictions of what actually happened in the relationship or they’re stories inspired by the relationship with joe. i think taylor is an amazing writer, but she said it herself joe was her muse and no writer can create something out thin air, it has to be inspired by something, by emotions that are already present. i think personally that she said they were all 100% fictional bc she didn’t want people to hate on joe while they were still together and she still loved him then. but again just my take and how i think about it. may be true, may be not. i love you’re vids, ive been watching since the all too well vid and i dont think i click on anyone’s vids faster than yours. love you guys, thanks for committing to making these vids. i know not everyone is always happy with you choose to do as content, but i appreciate whatever feel you need to do. ❤
