Sorry it took a while to upload this. I was apprehensive about filming this because I didn’t know if I would like it or not, and I didn’t know how this reaction would turn out😭😭 Anyways I’m sure I interpreted SO many of these songs wrong so feel free to fill me in on what I missed😂👇🏾and GET READY FOR MIDNIGHTS⭐️❤️❤️
Noo you interpreted soo many right! Im actually impressed that sometimes you got close to what it actually meant. My tear ricochet is a break up song but not a romantic kind of break up, in my opinion. Not sure if you've heard about her reclaiming her masters but my tear ricochet is pretty much her breaking up with her ex manager scott brochetta. "You can still hear my lullaby" is pretty much all her past works that he sold to Scooter Braun. The person she NEVER imagine he would sold it to since Taylor was very vocal about it with Scott. This also ties in with Mad Woman. Also. Love love love your reaction to invisible string!
Cardigan ,august, and Betty is a story about a love triangle that Taylor made up. It’s about a teenager named James that cheated on Betty with Augustine witch is the girl from august so the song Betty is the perspective of the story from James the song cardigan is the perspective of the story from Betty and august is the perspective from Augustine. So ya James is trying to say sorry to Betty in the song Betty for cheating on her thru the summer. Betty is trying to explain how she felt when she found out and then she felt like an old cardigan but James put her on again and said she was her favorite. August is about Augustine thinking James was her’s but then it wasn’t. So ya you may be shocked after what I just told you but ya it’s a pretty cool story if you put the songs together. That’s why I love tay so much because she is so good at making puzzles for us❤ ok hope u read this love your channel btw❤❤
I love how you interpreted the meaning of each song without looking up what they were about. That’s how music should be experienced. Now I selfishly want you to react to Evermore
I love this too, I personally love when someone interprets through the song without looking up everything, and then after listening looks up a blurb on genius or something taylor has said for context. I feel like there’s a genius to seeing how the song relates to taylor yet she writes in a way that it can be interpreted and related to without ever being about her. I feel like finding the context after experiencing without emphasises how taylor brings emotions to life with specificity that still allows us our interpretations…. and she got that without even looking anything up so I also heavily second hoping she’ll consider reacting to evermore. 👀
Yeah I get annoyed when fans are like “this is what it really means,” like… let them experience the song and what it means FOR THEM. That’s what music is supposed to do. It’s supposed to be about YOUR Cruel Summer- not Taylor’s.
Same ! I was like here we go we’re grabbing snacks about to watch a convert ;) there is nothing so satisfying as watching a skeptic become a Swiftie (not just a fan) but someone who hears her lyrics and gets the goosebumps and feels it in their soul! Welcome to the wacky world …. It’s a fun ride and we’re all mad here! Lol
As a swiftie, you may or may not like her music but thank you for respecting her enough that you listen so attentively to her lyrics. Her story-telling and lyrics are, for me, the strongest aspects of her art.
Yes!! I actually like watching reactors who dive deep into lyric analysis because they're able to appreciate Taylor in a more deeper level rather than superficial. The biggest reason why I'm a swiftie is because I love literature and the arts. And I love analyzing things. I feel like us loyal swifties connect Taylor on that deeper level. Not on a superficial level to fit with society.
This is actually make sense. I'm not a swiftie but whenever i hear her songs,I don't get attracted to her songs, i don't know how to explain but its her lyrics that attract me. If i hear one of he song im like meh yeah its ok but the moment i go to the lyrics, it blows my mind.
@@layla.slayzz I LOVE how people hear her other stuff and then look into the lyrics like it's the rest, and then they find it's literally about... a house. Just a house. Makes it one of my favorite in her discography
@@nancypierce8500and if you really wanna get deep into it, we are now theorizing that she was in denial when writing this album - and I believe also when talking about it so I believe tortured poets will have a lot to reveal lol
@@sarafaithie6008I mean it was obvious how depressed lockdown made her. But I do think she felt happy then, might've started drifting apart after evermore but I mean, why do we care?
The last great American dynasty is about the Standard Oil company heiress Rebekah Harkness. Taylor really did buy that house in Rhode Island and use to throw huge parties there when is was younger. She bought it like when she was 22or 23 yrs old. Google the house….it’s gorgeous!😊
You should listen to My Tears Ricochet on the Long Pond Sessions, she got across even more emotion in that live recording, it makes me cry each time. It's absolutely beautiful xx
I love watching people discover that taylor actually rocks. She has a huge fan base because of stuff like this, rather than the radio hits. Folklore is my favorite album from taylor. So creative and sonically beautiful. I would listen and react to evermore (the sister album of folklore) before hopping into a different era. Lots of people associate those two with eachother. Plus evermore is soooo amazing too. Can’t wait for the next taylor video. :)
you don't know happiness (pun intended) if you haven't listened to folklore or evermore while going to bed. i listen to folklore EVERY night and i just fall asleep so fast.
This is exactly what I wish everyone who dismisses Taylor Swift as a ‘blonde pop Princess’ would do. Take the time to actually listen, properly, to her music and lyrics. She is a storyteller, a wordsmith, a musician and so much more, there is a depth that is so intricate you find different aspects with each run through. Thank you for giving her the time needed to discover this about her. Now if you can, try another album, they are all worth the effort and time, Taylor has been honing her skills for almost two decades, and it has paid off. ❤
Girl, I'm not even 15 minutes into your reaction, and I already know that you are made to be a swiftie. You're already trying to decode words, making connections between the songs, and saying that you love when artists give specificity and paint a picture. Taylor is literally known for these things; that's her entire MO. Update after your invisible string reaction: You have now discovered the secret to why Taylor has had such a long-lasting career with loyal, loyal fans (aside from the amazing lyricism and storytelling). She puts into words what is in so many of our heads, and then we are hooked. It's not just that she's opening her diary to us and being vulnerable, but it's as if she has access to the diaries we hide under our mattresses, too. Epiphany: In this song, Taylor draws parallels between her grandfather's experience during WW2 (at the Battle of Guadalcanal) and the experience of healthcare workers during the pandemic. The first verse is from a soldier's perspective, and the second verse is from a doctor's perspective. The bridge and outro then draw parallels between the two. If you want the inside scoop about what all the songs on this album are about, I'd recommend listening to The Long Pond Studio session (it's on Disney+). She goes through each song, what they're about, the writing process, and the recording process, too. It's not only interesting to get a better understanding of the music, but it also gives you insights into the craft. Aside from Midnights, I highly recommend you check out Evermore (folklore's sister album, also released during the pandemic), reputation (you have to experience it to understand - the best way to experience it is with the tour film), and 1989 (often referred to as the pop bible)
Omg no stop it right now! That last sentence in your 2nd paragraph opened the waterworks! It's like I feel the love you feel for such an artist, but I understand exactly what you're saying bc that's exactly what she achieves with her pen. 😭❤️
YES!! She is made to be a swiftie!! Soon enough she'll be looking at easter eggs so easily the way she decoded even without any background of the songs.
as a huge swiftie, i need to do this lol 16:25 THE LAST GREAT AMERICAN DYNASTY is about Rebekah Harkness, ex owner of the "holiday house" that is now Taylor's after being no one's for 50 years ("50 years is a long time Holiday House sat quietly on that beach Free of women with madness, their men and bad habits And then it was bought by me") 25:04 MY TEARS RICOCHET is about the drama with Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta. idk if you already know but Scott, founder of Big Machine Records, sold the labels and Taylor's masters to Scooter Braun. also the reason she is rerecording her first 6 albums, so that she fully owns them. folklore is her second album that she actally owns (8th album of her discography) 42:39 ILLICIT AFFAIRS could either be abou infedelity or being a drug addict. not from her point of view though like most of these now my favorite, the FOLKLORE LOVE TRIANGLE: CARDIGAN, AUGUST, BETTY Betty and James are a couple but James feels insecure and when he sees Betty dancing with a guy he runs off and Augustine sees him and since she likes him she shoots her shot ("James, get in, let's drive") and they spend the summer together but James still likes Betty and when they go back to school he tries to get her to forgive him for cheating, also because he doesn't even like Augustine. CARDIGAN: Betty's point of view AUGUST: Augustine's point of view BETTY: James's point of view I could talk about this album for hours but I'm stopping myself - hope this was useful information still!!!!
I’m going to add, for context if any new swifties read this, so much of this album and its sister album evermore (she and her co-producers aaron and jack just kept experimenting for fun and it became a second pandemic album), are folk stories that are not at all autobiographically about taylor… but also entirely about her. it’s like allegories that tell the story of an emotion she’s felt. which I love because it means we can take what we want from the lyrics if we relate to the emotion, even once interpreting how it relates to taylor’s life. “this is me trying” is a few separate stories, about people trying their best even if it’s not always recognizable how hard they’re trying. “epiphany” is inspired by her grandfather who survived a really gruesome battle in ww2 but was never able to speak about the trauma, and connecting that to the trauma experienced by first line workers during the pandemic. dreaming of relief, an epiphany to make any sense of the trauma because there has to be meaning or some way through. “peace” is going to be so significant when her new album comes out because… in essence it’s someone (taylor) being unsure they will ever be enough for their partner when they have inescapable baggage, for taylor that seemingly being her fame when her bf at the time wanted to live a regular grounded life together. and it says a lot to me that she saw her fame and success as entirely negative in this song... maybe he wanted taylor the person without the star, and for better or worse she has to embrace both. “hoax” is another one with multiple stories that taylor, at the time she wrote it, says she wasn’t sure had one clear narrative. but I think it’s questioning the reality of your relationships. more poem than song in some ways. … see I said I couldn’t summarise. 😅
One thing I’ve learned over 17 years of loving Taylor’s music is things might not click initially, but there will come a moment (maybe next month, maybe even in a few years) where it falls into place and you feel it in your very core. Im so excited for you to begin your journey through her music!!! This was an excellent reaction.
THIS…Folklore and Evermore initially fell flat for my daughter and I when first released. Welp when midnights came out we gave them a second chance and BABY we could NOT have been more wrong!!!!!!!!!!
I had the same experience! Having loved debut and Fearless growing up, the Red CD was the last one I bought until Red TV. I got back into her music and started to appreciate albums like 1989 and folklore that I’d missed out on in the meantime! I remember thinking All Too Well was my least favourite when I heard Red after its initial release, coming back to it in 10 minute version… wow. Perspective was earned 😌
girl i watched every second of this you are A VERY SMART WOMAN. maybe i'm just less focused on lyrics but it took me dozens of times listening to these songs to make some of the connections you made instantly. i'm very impressed!! followed & gonna watch all ur album reviews
Definitely need to listen to evermore, It's like a sister to folklore. In my defense folklore, evermore and speak now(Taylor"s version) are her best works.
I think red is her best work because it can make u feel emotions like non other. Red is more timeless than any other album but all her album are top notch quality music.
'my tears ricochet' is about the betrayal from her past label's owner, scott borchetta. scott sold her masters from her first 6 studio albums to scooter braun, whom had bullied taylor before. scott knew about this and still sold the aforementioned masters to scooter. the 'stollen lullabies' refer to her masters. 'mirrorball' is about missing the connection with her fans during the pandemic.
@@jessicazak4192yes, her first six albums are being re-recorded under the name "Taylor's version" because the originals don't legally belong to her (which is crazy because she wrote and co-wrote all of those albums).
i love when casual listeners get past her singles and finally delve into her true songwriting and lyrical mastery. your reaction here is PEAK swiftie and i can't wait to keep watching you fall down the rabbit hole
The lakes is SUCH an underrated song. The sound of it would be beautiful enough but the reference to the Lake District?! The “word’s worth” (Wordsworth) line?! Ugh. Too good!
the fact that you said " the way that she can put that into words" a couple time and in her song (You're In Love) she said "And why I've spent my whole life trying to put it into words " gave me goosebumps 💜💜💜 and this is the best reaction eveeeeerrrr
71 yr. old UK closet Swiftie here. You may like to listen to Taylors Long Pond Studio Sessions with the introductions. She describes exactly what she was thinking writing each song then with just a microphone/guitar one two or three musicians, no effects just true brilliance/integrity/honesty. Outstanding!
And get out of the closet! I'm 60 in the US and a flag-waving Swiftie. I have a BA in literature, and my feeling is that anyone who appreciates good literature will appreciate TS. And anyone who doesn't appreciate her...hasn't actually listened to a TS song (or they are men who resent having to listen to a woman's point of view).
i’m SO happy you’re doing lyrics cuz lyrics are Taylor’s mark on the world. People say she is generic and all that, but no one could write like she does. There’s a reason she has a doctorate for it and some of the best songwriters in the world have loved and praised her. She’s a master with her pen
Ok I agree with all you said but let’s clarify that doctorate. Taylor never went to college although she would have rocked it bc she’s super smart. The doctorate was honorary. It’s not an actual degree. Just clarifying that.
Great reaction! Taylor has said she categorizes her songwriting into 3 categories. 1. Glitter gel pen lyrics: these are frivolous, carefree, bouncy, syncopated perfectly to the beat. These lyrics don’t care if you don’t take the seriously because they don’t take themselves seriously. These are just the happy party songs we need when we just want to dance around in joy. Most of her albums will have 1-2 of these, and they tend to be the singles. (We are never ever getting back together, Bejeweled, 22, I forgot that you existed) 2. Fountain Pen lyrics: these are songs with modern storylines or references, with a poetic twist. These paint vivid pictures of a situation, placing the listener there in the room where it all happened. The love, the loss, the everything. Brutally honest. Most of her songs fall in this category. (Maroon, Exile, The 1, Champagne Problems, False God, All to well) 3. Quill lyrics: these songs will be deep lyrically like the fountain pen songs, but will use antiquated words or references like language from classic novels. (Ivy, Hoax, Epiphany, Tolerate it, Carolina, Willow) So you’ll definitely hear the glitter gel pen songs more on her other albums, but those are really the exception. Enjoy them, but know that the rest of the album will pull you in.
This is gold. I didn't want to like Taylor for a while either, but then had many similar reactions as you to Reputation, and that album solidified me as a swiftie with all the deep dives and lyrics. I also always just thought she was that pop girl with no substance, but I was so wrong.
You're an excellent reactor. Im learning things and im a swifty! My Tears Ricochet is about her old albums and label. Its a significant song and one of my top 5. Her "stolen lullabies" are her albums, "you wear the same jewels" her jewels are her albums that bring her old label profits. She wasn't able to buy them so hence she rerecorded them (Taylor's Version). Its extremely sad when she says "i can go anywhere i want, just not home".
Right because when I listened to august and this is me trying for the first time I felt like she had read my diary and wrote about my situation. She's way too good and way too insane
Yes! She is a POET! You felt it all. Ppl have this image of her writing silly songs (she has some happy songs too), but once you start paying attention to what shes saying, its mind blowing. Hope you dive in into her work and let her tell you all the stories! Amazing reaction, loved watching.
Girl I'm right there with you... I was never a Taylor fan. Only really knew the radio hits honestly. But when those tickets for her Eras tour went for sale and she had that beef with Ticketmaster, I was like "bro what's the hype. I deadass don't get it." This was my first Taylor Swift album and I've been a swiftie ever since. I was a whole CLOWN for sleeping on that pen for so long
This has been one of my favorite Taylor reactions I’ve ever seen. I really enjoy watching people that know very little about her discover her massive talent. I also really enjoy your interpretations of the songs. As a diehard Swiftie I know the meanings and stories behind the songs but you have given new insights and ideas that are valid and appreciated. It’s great to see someone really getting into the lyrics and what they mean to Taylor and now you personally. I subscribed to your channel and can’t wait for more.
Agreed I just subscribed as well ! You new perspective was enlightening! And I’m a new Swiftie I am on this journey as well and it’s been so great hearing your interpretations too !
“Word Painting” it’s a beautiful and so accurate description of Taylor’s craft. I loved this reaction so much ❤ welcome to the tayniverse gurl!!, you don’t need to be a psychotic toxic swiftie to adore her art and being exited about her 🥹 I have openly loved her for 14 years (as a metal-head) and have cero regrets or shame about it ❤ she’s truly one of a kind Please see the long pond studio sessions, it’s an amazing deep dive of this album that is by far her best one 🤍
Epiphany is two parallel stories: one about medics treating soldiers at war, the second about first line workers during Covid. So beautiful how she ties them together.
The fear and uncertainty can relate to many situations in the medical field, but from my perspective as someone who experienced Covid as an internal medicine resident, this really resonated with me. I still remember listening to this in October 2020 and sobbing. I couldn’t listen to it again for over a year. Covid was really scary for front line healthcare workers. We were starting to see Covid patients while hearing about NY residents (in their 20s/30s like us) who were dying.
@@jehouse61Art is not always interpreted as the artist intended. Sometimes fans give artists insight into their works they didn't realize was in it. Noone is wrong.
Wow your interpretation of cardigan had me floored. I never thought of it that way, but that interpretation makes so much sense in the greater TS lore. I always took it to mean that people in her past/ her past in general made her feel like that cardigan on the floor - old, used, forgotten, discarded. Then her current partner found her and made her feel wanted again. I always thought that was such beautiful imagery. Like imagine something tossed on the ground, kicked under the bed. How long it would lay there because no one was even looking for it. And then finally, someone looks under there and says omg my favorite cardigan! I’ve been looking for this everywhere! Thinking of that as a metaphor for feeling discarded but then finally finding someone who appreciates you, it’s so beautiful I’m moved to tears. But your interpretation had me looking at it in a new light. A lot of the discourse around TS right now has been that she, and the rest of us, were in denial about her previous relationship. With new context, we’re looking back at old songs and seeing the red flags. Therefore, your interpretation that it was in fact the same person who both discarded and then clung to her when she felt discarded, makes so much sense within the narrative of a relationship in which the two partners are constantly on the verge of breaking up but then end up staying together because of a last stitch effort from someone who wasn’t trying at all most of the time.
Her cardigan interpretation got me too especially when I compare it to what Taylor herself has said about Betty taking James back in the end. I honestly think her interpretation is on the money now - Betty WAS pulling away because she felt abandoned and forgotten by James, and James realizing he was losing Betty shows up at the party and goes through all those steps to get her back. When you look at the whole trilogy... Damn. Yeah, this interpretation is my new one for sure.
THIS. 💯 👀 Not me being gobsmacked & feeling a whole typa way about this girl just coming fresh out the gate and providing a whole different narrative for Cardigan than I've ever seen... ...And then {{almost more immediately than I'm proud to admit..🫣}}, kicking My own theoretical cardigan waaaaaaaayy tf under the bed and putting hers on cause now, it's my new ✨favorite✨ 🫣 A+👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Its about how a women enjoying her life is met with cynicism but if same way a man enjoys, he ain't getting no shit for it. Back when Taylor had rich model friends, parties at holiday house , she was dragged for it by media so brutally, it was like she is reason for everything wrong in this world and what could have World been like if she never showed up in music world.
I had to pause on Exile and then come here. Thank you for your raw first look at one of her albums. I didn't like Taylor before Folklore. The sound is much more mature and introspective. Before in albums that had huge pop songs like 1989 (I do like some songs on that album), it was way too much bubble happy pop for me. On folklore and during the pandemic, songs like 'this is me trying', 'the lakes', and 'mirrorball' really helped to put my depression and the steps that I was moving through in life. In looking at her earlier albums, the TV versions really kept some of their original pop but also you feel that mature voice sort of perspective in some of the more ballad songs, and I appreciate the storytelling so much more.
I'm shocked, how in the world did you manage to describe her 6 years relationship on first listen? 😭 What you said about cardigan had me shook and then comes your mirrorball interpretation 😭 Epiphany is about her grandfather, he fought in the WW2 in the Guadalcanal battle. She's drawing parallels between that and the first responders during the pandemic. How they only get 20 minutes of rest and they dream of some epiphany.
@@neeceexx the cardigan description is INSANE!! you have to go understand the love triangle story taylor create! cardigan is abt a girl named betty's pov. pls you have to check the story.
@@zookeepers-hzo I’m not convinced that Taylor was 100% honest about what Cardigan was really about. I’m pretty sure she’s happy to run a little misdirection at times eg if she’s in a rocky relationship but not ready to tell the world that yet.
Gosh, the way you got Peace exactly right gave me a cold chill. She said almost the exact phrasing of what you said in the Long Pond Studio Session of this song. I think youd love to hear her talk about her process!
So the phrase "look at how my tears ricochet" essentially means "you caused all of these tears when you betrayed me, but you've hurt yourself in the process, and now you've got your own tears." It's very akin to the line from the final chorus "You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same" and "If I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes too" She says it more directly in a live performance where she adlibs "Look at all of my tears turning into your tears"
I like that interpretation! I always understood it as she turns her pain into music, so the tears that ricochet are her songs that bite back at those who have hurt her. Their actions have consequences in her music. Her voice is her most powerful weapon and also the crux of her vulnerability, like tears that ricochet.
Ricochet means bounce, and is usually in reference to bullets that unintentionally hit another target than their initial intent. She is saying that her tears bounce back and hit them.
I will never not cry while watching ✨️first times listeners✨️ react. Every. Single. Time without fail I will get so emotional. It's like, I feel so happy for non-swifties for finally getting the out-of-body experience we've all had, and also I get weirdly proud of the albums and Tay herself.... other crazy Swifties here?😅🙋🏼♀️
Seven, like you said, sounded very bright because she used the perspective of a 7 years old of the world. That's why the narrator used simple words to describe things, like a child would. Also, the song is kind of dark actually the narrator is aware of her friend being abused in their household. Hence, the narrator wanted to runaway with them (the friend).
This was one of the best reaction videos I’ve ever seen. You gave very thoughtful commentary and have a skill of being able to break down the meaning and the lyrics so quickly. Glad you enjoyed the album. Seems like you will like Evermore too. Midnights is a compilation of songs she had written for past albums, so it’s a bit different than folklore.
“It’s the best written project I’ve ever heard in my entire life.” Yes 🙌! I LOVE Folklore 💕! Made me a Swiftie! I liked her music and sang her boppy, hit songs with my kids in the car, but this album made me appreciate her so much more! She has also evolved over the years - in every way. Her genre, her voice, her style, her maturity. I can’t wait to watch what you thought of TTPD! I love watching these types of videos and you certainly “get” her now. You can tell you’re a person who appreciated lyrics and storytelling 🥰! Taylor’s the Queen of lyrics!
omg your cardigan analysis gave me literal chills, i loved it! i always thought about two different people in the situation, one that made her feel like an old cardigan and the new guy (james lol) that made her feel special again, but the way you interpreted it also made so much sense! specially with the “you drew stars” line ANDDD with what we know happened in august… that’s why i love seeing reactions to taylor’s songs, you can have so many interpretations🥰
@@laverneswartzyess, I feel like she would be very interested in the secret albums etc.. I feel like she would be able to understand and piece Easter eggs together easily.
I loved it when you got Taylored with invisible string. That is her gift - she can read our thoughts and hearts and can somehow describe it in the perfect way using imagery or words we would never think of yet they feel exactly to fit. All of her songs are good but when you find one that hits different- it is amazing.
There so much lore to this album that I know I won’t be able to explain well, but I can’t wait to see others find a way to break it all down in the comments for you. There’s so much to love about this album and I’m so glad you’ve decided to give Taylor’s music a fair shake :3
Epiphany is making a parallel between war and healthcare workers during covid. The first verse is about how her grandfather never talked about the war he's been to and her dad found out later what horrible things he must have witnessed. The second verse hit really hard in 2020, as the album was written during the first wave of the pandemic.
I’m only 10 minutes in, but I’m already impressed with the details you catch onto, the way you interpret the lyrics and pay attention to lyrics in general! Her lyricism is what she does best, and I love to see new people discovering her and appreciating it.
So funny how shocked you were also. I never thought I l8ked Taylor either ....., out of pure curiosity I watched the eras concert !,,,,, ,,,. NOW IM listening to her every day . Lol I'm hooked
this is one of the best reactions i have ever watched. honestly i’m blown away by the way you’re able to interpret the songs so profoundly on first listen
@@neeceexx She has said that with the Pandemic, it gave her time to create characters and stories since we all were stuck in quarantine without a lot to do BUT with the upcoming release of Tortured Poets and things starting to come out about her past relationship with Joe, people are looking back at Folklore and Evermore and thinking some of these fictional songs hold truth, like "Tolerate It" on Evermore. When you get around to listening to Evermore, make sure and check out the version with "Right Where You Left Me" - talk about painting a picture and my personal favorite of hers!
@@michellelambi1796 You can read anything into anything if you WANT to. Sometimes her lyrics are over decoded. The Lakes was written about Joe and how she wanted to escape to England with him. Joe will no doubt feature on TTPD but I think a lot less than is being touted by certain folk. It will mainly be on her as the "Tortured Poet" imo. As to "Tolerate it" I disagree wholeheartedly as Taylor has said it was inspired by the book and character Rebecca (by Daphne du Maurier) and also contains the line "You're so much older, and wiser, and I" (which Max de Winter in Rebecca was), and couldn't refer to Joe as he's actually a year younger than Taylor.
@@clansomei think you’re being too literal. People are saying it seems that Taylor has been through these emotions and has used other people’s factual stories to get her emotions out. And there is heavy indication she was feeling unappreciated in some relationship. And lets be for real. It was likely Joe.
I am so happy that you loved folklore! I’m also happy that you were able to see just how amazing Taylor’s songwriting really is! There is not one song on that album that didn't impress me, her imagery and lyrics have me in tears over and over again. Enjoy your journey, discovering her music! I wish I could do it for the first time once more, too!
About the length of the video: I sometimes hesitate to click on a reaction to Taylor Swift (and especially Folklore and Evermore), that is only twenty to thirty minutes long, because I doubt they can really appreciate what Taylor does in such a short time. 😂 So thanks for your in depth thoughts!
I subbed because of how open you were to this album. Your reaction was so introspective, intelligent, and honest. I’ve never stayed long enough to watch a reactor’s entire album review. I absolutely loved your reactions. There’s such a massive catalog, and as you go you’ll learn so much. Her videos are like movies. Ms Americana (documentary) is a must! If you want to know who Taylor really is, that’s a great place to start. Awesome job! ❤
Girl what you said about Cardigan, how the person is just doing enough to keep you there, then when you're about to move away, they reel you back in... that's amazing. Lots of people say that she was secretly describing her relationship with her ex, Joe Alwyn, in the lyrics.
Which is the most bullshit ever. Taylor and Joe were amazing together. She said so in significantly more songs than she wrote "bad" ones about him. It's like you all paint this bullshit narrative when the last 6 years worth of love songs were all about Joe. Relationships end. If Taylor herself can admit her own failings in that relationship, I don't know why you all think it's ok to pretend that she didn't have a beautiful relationship with Joe. People need to grow up.
@@emmavink you're losing me says otherwise. And she wrote hoax when she was with yb. No way that song is fictional. How hurt someone has to be to write something like that. He did f up. U are just blinded by how Taylor described the person she thought she was in love with.
@@emmavinkyou can see their crumbling and unstable relationship since lover. false god describes that well. they definitely had an on and off relationship and i know she’ll write about it in ttpd.
Your interpretation of the cardigan under the bed was so spot on. I have always interpreted like that because I felt like this in my relationship when this song came out. You worded it so beautifully
im rlly glad you sat down and listened to her art. when you said that an artists radio hits are not an accurate representation, i automatically respected you sm!
The fact that you love the images …. Taylor is a master painter in her lyrics. The deeper you dive into her non radio hits the more you catch the images and double meanings and twists and turns!
I hope you choose to react to the long pond sessions. Taylor's commentary really adds to the experience of listening to these songs. She's so nuanced and deliberate about what she's creating, it's genuinely wonderful to hear.
First video I have seen of yours, immediate follow. I love your analysis of lyrics and the songs. I appreciate you so much for giving her songs a listen. Your input was so enlightening. Thank you!!!
Can I just say that you are so very insightful!! I love listening to how you connect with and interpret Taylor’s songs. And I appreciate very much how you appreciate her work.
Excited for the Midnights reaction! And The Tortured Poets Department! 😮
Thank God you're a lyrics girl. ❤
You have to react to all too well 10 minute version

😂 Saaaaame.
Same!!!
The way you understood cardigan on your first listen is vital proof you are meant to be a swiftie
YESSS❤
Yes we need evermore now!
Yeah I get annoyed when fans are like “this is what it really means,” like… let them experience the song and what it means FOR THEM. That’s what music is supposed to do. It’s supposed to be about YOUR Cruel Summer- not Taylor’s.
you are right that the virgin listen is valuable but the researched is invaluable 😊😊
Totally! Evermore is my favorite album and is so underrated
taylor once said that she’s not a singer, she’s a songwriter who’s just lucky enough to get to sing her own songs, i loved that you understood that
Not liking her singles but liking the album tracks is a time-honored Swiftie tradition. Welcome to the club!
plsssss
Lol when you said "I love specificity" I grabbed a coffee and a blanket and settled in 😂😂
SAME. I put it on my TV and connected it to my phone so I could read and respond to comments. 😊

That's so specific she might've loved it 😂
Lol
You’re one of us now babe!
First time listening to Taylor and you already called her crazy. Girl you were born to be a swiftie
Ive never seen someone more fitting to be a swiftie in my life.
RIGHT ! she seems to understand a lot of it
I love when lyrics are specific… I love when artists paint a picture… I’m like oh girl ur gonna love it haha
@yeahyeah450 for real, like third song in, and she is like "this is why we're hereeee" even tho its the first time she's here😂
I think this is my favorite video on the internet right now 😍 you are so fun to watch and I loved hearing how you connected with each song 🙌👏
AHHHH thank you so much I’m so glad you enjoyed it!!❤️❤️
can explain how much i love hearing non-swifties opinions on this like TLGAD
so do i! it’s honestly funny knowing the actual meaning but also eye opening seeing this kinda view on it.

Me sitting here months later needing to know if she ever found out that Taylor literally brought the house
@@layla.slayzz I LOVE how people hear her other stuff and then look into the lyrics like it's the rest, and then they find it's literally about... a house. Just a house. Makes it one of my favorite in her discography
It’s about her house
the folklore long pond sessions are on disney+ and she breaks down and explains each and every song and performs them!
OMG, thank you for this info!
I second this! Evermore is definitely a companion album. Worth listening to alongside folklore!
Knowing their lives will never be the same
Same, folklore and evermore are my favs, so beautiful and well written
you don't know happiness (pun intended) if you haven't listened to folklore or evermore while going to bed. i listen to folklore EVERY night and i just fall asleep so fast.

16:25 THE LAST GREAT AMERICAN DYNASTY is about Rebekah Harkness, ex owner of the "holiday house" that is now Taylor's after being no one's for 50 years ("50 years is a long time Holiday House sat quietly on that beach Free of women with madness, their men and bad habits And then it was bought by me")
25:04 MY TEARS RICOCHET is about the drama with Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta. idk if you already know but Scott, founder of Big Machine Records, sold the labels and Taylor's masters to Scooter Braun. also the reason she is rerecording her first 6 albums, so that she fully owns them. folklore is her second album that she actally owns (8th album of her discography)
42:39 ILLICIT AFFAIRS could either be abou infedelity or being a drug addict. not from her point of view though like most of these
now my favorite, the FOLKLORE LOVE TRIANGLE: CARDIGAN, AUGUST, BETTY
Betty and James are a couple but James feels insecure and when he sees Betty dancing with a guy he runs off and Augustine sees him and since she likes him she shoots her shot ("James, get in, let's drive") and they spend the summer together but James still likes Betty and when they go back to school he tries to get her to forgive him for cheating, also because he doesn't even like Augustine.
CARDIGAN: Betty's point of view
AUGUST: Augustine's point of view
BETTY: James's point of view
I could talk about this album for hours but I'm stopping myself - hope this was useful information still!!!!
As a new swiftie it was helpful to me, I didn’t know what the Folklore triangle actually was until now
Omg you did the thing. I could NEVER summarise this well. This is essential you’re an icon for this.
Taylor named the characters James, Inez and Betty after her best friends blake lively and ryan reynolds daughters
That cardigan, August, Betty triangle is insane!!!

Perspective was earned 😌

yess i love that you included speak now, definitely her most underrated album. speak now (tv), folklore, evermore and midnights are my favs.

71 yr. old UK closet Swiftie here.
79 year old in UK and this year I just turned Swiftie😊
i’m SO happy you’re doing lyrics cuz lyrics are Taylor’s mark on the world.
(We are never ever getting back together, Bejeweled, 22, I forgot that you existed)
2. Fountain Pen lyrics: these are songs with modern storylines or references, with a poetic twist. These paint vivid pictures of a situation, placing the listener there in the room where it all happened. The love, the loss, the everything. Brutally honest. Most of her songs fall in this category. (Maroon, Exile, The 1, Champagne Problems, False God, All to well)
3. Quill lyrics: these songs will be deep lyrically like the fountain pen songs, but will use antiquated words or references like language from classic novels. (Ivy, Hoax, Epiphany, Tolerate it, Carolina, Willow)
So you’ll definitely hear the glitter gel pen songs more on her other albums, but those are really the exception.
Its extremely sad when she says "i can go anywhere i want, just not home".

fr. im going to the eras tour in october and I think I’m going to cry when folklore starts..
Epiphany is two parallel stories: one about medics treating soldiers at war, the second about first line workers during Covid. So beautiful how she ties them together.
I refuse to associate that song with c*vid. For me its about watching someone with terminal cancer.
@@ohifonlyx33 She said it's about early days of medical staff treating Covid in the hospitals. I guess she was wrong, even though she wrote the song.
I thought it was a metaphor for a man wishing on luck for the relationship to go well and not try
I feel exactly the same!!!
THIS. 💯 👀
Not me being gobsmacked & feeling a whole typa way about this girl just coming fresh out the gate and providing a whole different narrative for Cardigan than I've ever seen...
...And then {{almost more immediately than I'm proud to admit..🫣}}, kicking My own theoretical cardigan waaaaaaaayy tf under the bed and putting hers on cause now, it's my new ✨favorite✨ 🫣

Back when Taylor had rich model friends, parties at holiday house , she was dragged for it by media so brutally, it was like she is reason for everything wrong in this world and what could have World been like if she never showed up in music world.
@@neeceexxit’s called Holiday House, it’s right on the water. It’s beautiful.
There’s also a rumor going around that Taylor’s first movie will be about Rebekah and Holiday House (with Blake Lively as Rebekah).
@@khillsoohhh, I love this idea and I hope it comes to fruition ❤
This is literally the best taylor swift album reaction i have ever seen and I'm not even kidding. Seriously you were born to be a content creator fr ❤
Gonna need your midnights, evermore, and reputation review asap 🫡
The line in my tears ricochet “and if I’m dead to you, why are you at the wake?” completely hits me every time.
I'm shocked, how in the world did you manage to describe her 6 years relationship on first listen? 😭 What you said about cardigan had me shook and then comes your mirrorball interpretation 😭
Epiphany is about her grandfather, he fought in the WW2 in the Guadalcanal battle. She's drawing parallels between that and the first responders during the pandemic. How they only get 20 minutes of rest and they dream of some epiphany.
Oh wow that epiphany meaning is beautiful
@@neeceexx the cardigan description is INSANE!! you have to go understand the love triangle story taylor create! cardigan is abt a girl named betty's pov. pls you have to check the story.
@@neeceexxI can’t listen to epiphany without bawling my eyes out. I was a frontline COVID nurse and tbh it broke me
@@zookeepers-hzo I’m not convinced that Taylor was 100% honest about what Cardigan was really about. I’m pretty sure she’s happy to run a little misdirection at times eg if she’s in a rocky relationship but not ready to tell the world that yet.
@@clairem730agree! She isn't going to share all about her relationships, song writing is a story, it's not always truth
I love August, just like you did. It’s got a beautiful melody, great lyrics, and a wonderful arrangement.
Gosh, the way you got Peace exactly right gave me a cold chill. She said almost the exact phrasing of what you said in the Long Pond Studio Session of this song. I think youd love to hear her talk about her process!
So the phrase "look at how my tears ricochet" essentially means "you caused all of these tears when you betrayed me, but you've hurt yourself in the process, and now you've got your own tears." It's very akin to the line from the final chorus "You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same" and "If I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes too"
She says it more directly in a live performance where she adlibs "Look at all of my tears turning into your tears"
Omg that makes so much sense
If mamma ain’t happy ain’t no one happy!
It’s like in Hunger games when Katniss said: “Fire is catching. And if we burn, you burn with us”
I like that interpretation!
It's like, I feel so happy for non-swifties for finally getting the out-of-body experience we've all had, and also I get weirdly proud of the albums and Tay herself.... other crazy Swifties here?😅🙋🏼♀️
I fully agree, it's an addiction for me! I simply adore watching people come to the table and sit down and EAT. Loving this!!
Her reaction made me tear up bc seeing her transition was sooo good and her interpretations ❤ yess I became a “swiftie” too when I saw the tour film
Same here and I'm 76. Met Taylor in 2008 and told her she'd one day be on par with The Beatles. I underestimated her.
@@raybernier6851now why this comment got me crying bro 😭
Stop that happens to me too and I’m almost 30 so I thought I was so cringe thank you for validating my Swiftie experience
What wow I never really listened to those lyrics
Taylor’s the Queen of lyrics!
omg your cardigan analysis gave me literal chills, i loved it! i always thought about two different people in the situation, one that made her feel like an old cardigan and the new guy (james lol) that made her feel special again, but the way you interpreted it also made so much sense! specially with the “you drew stars” line ANDDD with what we know happened in august…
that’s why i love seeing reactions to taylor’s songs, you can have so many interpretations🥰
36:00 Taylor is known for her incredible bridges, blondie is an architect 😂
Loved this reaction! 🩶🩶🩶
Is just me, she's kinda analyzing lyrics like a TRUE swiftie 😂😂😂😂
@@laverneswartzyess, I feel like she would be very interested in the secret albums etc.. I feel like she would be able to understand and piece Easter eggs together easily.
I loved it when you got Taylored with invisible string. That is her gift - she can read our thoughts and hearts and can somehow describe it in the perfect way using imagery or words we would never think of yet they feel exactly to fit. All of her songs are good but when you find one that hits different- it is amazing.
Your interpretation of Cardigan! Best reaction video so far.
One of the best reactions to an album I’ve seen! And I’m a big Swiftie too - I’m glad you enjoyed folklore!
There so much lore to this album that I know I won’t be able to explain well, but I can’t wait to see others find a way to break it all down in the comments for you. There’s so much to love about this album and I’m so glad you’ve decided to give Taylor’s music a fair shake :3
Thank you for being here!!❤️
Epiphany is making a parallel between war and healthcare workers during covid.
Every time I watch a Taylor reaction I feel like I'm listening for the first time and get goosebumps all over again
So funny how shocked you were also. I never thought I l8ked Taylor either ....., out of pure curiosity I watched the eras concert !,,,,, ,,,. NOW IM listening to her every day . Lol I'm hooked
exactly what happened with me.. 🥹 I'm still a newborn swifte
this is one of the best reactions i have ever watched. honestly i’m blown away by the way you’re able to interpret the songs so profoundly on first listen
Cardigan = Betty's POV
August = Augustine? POV (James's summer fling)
Betty = James's POV
Surprised this is the first comment I’ve seen that explains the triology!
Yeah, the august girl's name is Augustine.
I thought it was Betty, Inez, and James? Where did Augustine come from?
@@nicolekissel1467 I think it was in the longpond Session where Taylor Said that in her head that Girl IS called Augustine
@@kaerden3766 awesome, thank you! I must have missed that part.
Taylor is a story teller first and foremost and then she’s a singer.
i always thought that shes a story teller/ songwriter who sings
Correct. She’s a D rated vocalist so vocal experts consider her a singer not a vocalist.
She’s a master songwriter and story teller first ❤
Your reaction to _Exile_ , though....
All of us, friend, all of us 😅🤯🫠🙂↕️
i am soooo excited for your midnights reaction, it def has glitter pop songs but it has such incredible lyrics as well, i think you're gonna love it
we love watching a new swiftie being born
girl you NEEEDDDDD to listen to evermore (folklore's sister album) 😩🙌🏽🤎✨
because your reaction and interpretation of this album is so beautiful
Most of her albums foklore and evermore are told with her emotions through the story of something she made up, she saw on Tv, or she read in a book.
That’s what I figured once I listened to the whole thing. I love that concept
Folklore has been my comfort album this semester in my junior year of college as I have been incredibly stressed but this album makes me feel safe and comfortable when I am feeling so overwhelmed or angry. It’s a very healing album for many and it is one of my favorite albums from her 🩶🩶🩶! So it made me so happy to see you enjoying this album and interpreting each song. You’ll definitely love evermore it’s a very similar album to folklore but it’s just as beautiful 🤎🤎! I’ll be tuning in as well !
Im in love with this reaction and hearing your thoughts and insight!
girl i absolutely loved your reaction and interpretations of theses songs! this album is my second favorite of hers and i've had it for so long and listened to it so many times, and there were still interpretations that you had of the songs that i had never thought about. that's why i love her music so much, it conects to people through so many different ways.
and now you HAVE to react to evermore, my actual favorite album. it's like a sister album to folklore, has very similar sounds and lyricism but it's such an unique body of work, I can't wait to see your reaction and interpretations of the songs!!!
The Lakes, I feel, is one where she’s telling you who she is, and you should believe her. She’s a poet.
Your breakdown was exquisite! I’m so happy you love her lyrical artistry. 💜
Your analysis is insanely amazing!!! I’ve been loving this album since it came out and haven’t realized half of the things you spoke about on first listen. Thank you for sharing and braving the army that will surely come to watch and Taylor video 🥹
im so happy to welcome u to the swiftie community
I've been an English teacher for over 20 years and a Taylor fan for ten. Your first-listen noticings and connections are intricate and thoughtful. Processing the lyrics of an artist like Taylor so quickly is a challenge even for me at times! Loved watching your reaction and looking forward to more from you! (Next, I'll be watching your Cowboy Carter reaction because that album is AMAZING! A manifesto!)
alsoo omg don't get too caught in the lore bestie. have your own interpretations. its so fascinating to hear. makes me see the songs from new perspectives
This album reaction was an absolute joy to watch. I love your interpretations to the lyrics and songwriting! Very profound and entertaining at the same time. Can't wait to see more reactions from you, and I'm definitely going to be digging into your other videos! 🤍🩶🖤
THANK YOU! I’ve been stanning Hoax since day one and my baby’s so underrated !!! It’s easy top 3 on folklore. Loved your reaction to the album! Keep going 😊❤
Folklore is a masterpiece. Taylor's writing skills are on another level
Your face after “My Tears Ricochet” is exactly how I felt after listening to it even before I knew what it was about.
Oh how i wish i could listen to folklore again for the first time 🥹🥹 seeing your reaction was super cool, you are so smart! You get the meanings of the songs super quickly!
I loved your reaction! Your attention to the lyrics is amazing!
It took me a while to get into Taylor's music, too, and it was Folklore that really hooked me (still my favourite album!).
None of the sad songs on Folklore and Evermore are about Joe
what...💀
If you love specificity, you'll love her work. She paints the picture.
Wow, the Analogy is so deep.. you're one of the very few reactors who takes time to analyze the lyrics. I appreciate it
I hope you choose to react to the long pond sessions.
