The worst part of Tolerate It is that at the end she says again “I sit and watch you,” which tells the listener that the breaking free happened only in her head.
I always saw it as, like, in the beginning, in the first "I sit and watch you", she was looking at him with sadness, wanting him to see her, appreciate her and wondering why she stays there when he clearly doesn't care, but on the last one she's not expecting him to look at her, she's analysing him, seeing him for who he is for the first time and ready to move on and break the cycle.
This is my absolute fav Taylor song. The Eras Tour film version is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 the bridge literally kills me. Also she performs champagne problems then tolerate it, like she emotionally wrecked me back to back 😭😭😭😭😭 we did not give her permission to do that!
I think the biggest thing for me was “believe me I COULD do it.” rather than can. It gives the energy of saying you could stop whenever you want, but still going back every time.
a little nuance to note in champagne problems is the line, “till someone’s one their KNEES” knees. plural. he was literally begging, not asking, her on his knees to marry him, absolutely heartbreaking

that fact that we didn’t get to hear your reaction to Right Where You Left me is extremely messed up. One of the best songs she’s ever made, and by FAR the best song on Evermore.
although i love right where you left me, my favorite of all time is marjorie, so my favorite on evermore is definitely marjorie. i love rwylm so much though.
I find it criminal that people are sobbing at Champagne Problems but then getting through Tolerate It with dry cheeks. Does that song not break anybody else? It is one of the only songs to ever make me cry.
Same. Like how can people hear Taylor sing "I made you my temple, my mural, my sky / Now I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life" and not shed a single tear??
They probably didn't understand what Tolerate It was about. I know I didn't get it for weeks. At least until I watched another reaction video explaining it. 😌

some people believe it’s about emily dickinson and sue gilbert. for example “taken mine when it’s been promised to another” is like how they would always hold hands but sue’s hand in marriage was to austin dickinson (emily’s brother) and another example is “he wants what’s only yours” basically saying how much austin wanted sue’s real love but the only person sue really loved was emily. i’m not completely sure it’s about them but the lyrics match perfectly to their situation
fun fact: happiness has a LOT of The Great Gatsby references, such as “the green light” and a direct quote from the book (“I hope she’ll be a beautiful fool”)
She wrote it for her best friend, whose marriage just ended. And the great gatsby is her friend's favorite. In fact her best friend's engagement party has a The Great Gatsby theme. So yeah.
Marjorie has always made me sad but after seeing Taylor cry while performing it live made me tear up at the concert and now I cry every time I hear it 😭😭
Marjorie is my favourite to watch videos of from the tour. Taylor almost always cries with the emotion and the whole stadium pays tribute to Marjorie and it’s so moving that the story and legacy of this one woman, barely known in the US (but big in Puerto Rico) has reached millions of people , some of whom have never even shared the Earth with her.
I'm seeing her in feb 2024. I played Marjorie at my mums funeral in 2021. I know hearing Marjorie live is going to destroy me! I was not expecting her to play it live at the tour at all and when it started playing on the first night of eras tour livestream, I broke down. She sounds incredible.
@@MJSJenkins1991 ikr it has like Disney princess vibes, should'be been in the Cinderella soundtrack or something. But I wouldn't be so daring as to call it my favourite lol my internal thoughts would never let me live it down
The fact that in Tolerate it the main character reaches this realization and tells him she could really leave if he doesn't get his shit together... And then the last line ends up with "I sit and watch you" I CAN'T I'M NOT OKAY
More evidence of Taylor's pen game: 1. Happiness is theorized to be about Taylor's best friend, Abigail's divorce :(( "7 years in Heaven" adds up to the number of years Abigail dated and was married to her ex-husband. "Shit we're dividing up" has strong ties to the coldness of the divorce process and the lyric: "after giving you the best I had, tell me what's to give after that" parallels "and Abigail gave everything she had to a boy who changed his mind" in Fifteen (A song Taylor wrote for Abigail in her Love Story album) 2. Happiness also references Great Gatsby with "I hope she'll be a beautiful fool" and "Im paralyzed with Happiness" (both Daisy's words) 3. Champagne Problem's bridge "One for the money, two for the show," references a children's rhyme that people sing when preparing to start something (such as used in Blue Suede Shoes by Elvis) except Taylors' is an inversion from the pov of someone ending something :'(( 4. Champagne Problem's bridge again: "Your midas touch on the chevy door, November flush and your flannel cure" is just geniusly poetic for "He opened the car door for me and gave me his jacket cus I was cold" 5. Tolerate It is inspired by a book, Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier 6. In Long Story Short "Past me I wanna tell you not to get lost in these petty things, your nemesis will defeat themselves before you get the chance to swing" Kanye and Kim's divorce shade? 7. In Marjorie "Every scrap of you would be taken from me" makes me wonder if this is a reference to her Master's rights being sold to Scooter. The music her Grandma inspired her to pursue was taken from her 8. Closure is a big middle finger to Scooter Braun HEHEHE That's all I have so far but this album is rich with poetry. Drop more easter eggs in the replies!
Gold rush continues her theme of love being golden. Like in the song daylight. Scooter and his wife are getting divorced so that’s more of the “your nemeses will defeat themselves before you get the chance to swing” reference “Never be so clever you forget to be kind, never be so kind you forget to be clever” and “never be so polite you forget your power, never wield such power you forget to be polite” are cheesy words of advice her grandmother said to her. She says “should’ve kept every grocery store receipt because every scrap of you would be taken from me” means all she has of her grandmother is that advice. It’s time to go is a huge reference to Scott, scooter, and Karlie. She’s leaving her past to take care of her future.
@@kenzieaarons5609 the never be so kind/clever line also references the way in which her grandmother's co-host on the show she was on treated her, frequently finding 'clever' new ways to make fun of her bc she couldnt speak spanish and was on a cuban tv show, also a reference to marjorie being kind and ignoring his jabs
Evermore (the song) is so underrated it makes me sad. It is so incredibly beautiful. Her vocals, the simple piano, and the lyrics really paint a picture of a harsh winter - metaphorically and literally. And then the sped up bridge to reflect the sudden change in season and situation UGH.
It's too hard to pick a favorite song but evermore is definitely up there. That bridge, their back and forths, all the emotions packed up in a single line "you were there"?? It's just such a beautiful song and I hate how underrated it is 😭 Haze is right, it's a beautiful way to end a beautiful album.
I love the fact that it is so underrated (even the whole evermore album) because it makes it feel like I am closer to Taylor somehow, the “you were there” line always brings me to tears
ivy is my favorite song of taylor's EVER and i think the thing i love most about it is the detail that the narrator is afraid her husband will "burn this house to the ground," but the rest of the song is about the ivy (love) covering her stone house. she doesn't realize in the midst of her anxiety that he CANT burn their love down. so beautiful.
Just today I realized that then she embraces it. She let us know her husband is gonna burn the house to the ground…but then she just accepts it “So yeah. Its a fire its a goddam blaze in the dark” . I was 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Why nobody talks about his cat coming and going randomly? Like, show us your cat? You can't listen to Taylor Swift without showing us your cat? Sir? Edit: Nope, he did it.
Obviously my name is Marjorie and I was named after my Grandmother, Marjorie, who passed 9/30/22. When I go back and listen to that song, now, it's incredible how much it means to me. It's literally like it's me singing about my own Grandmother.

I need to say, I wasn't a huge Tay Swiftie fan, but, when I listened to Evermore I knew I was wrong for not loving this amazing songwritter and creator that she is. I was stuck in this album for over a month, until I listened to folklore. Now, I'm stuck in folklore for over 2 months because the long pond studio version got me for good hahahaha. Once you listen to these 2 albuns there is no way you won't be a swiftie.
I've posted this comment before on 'Tolerate It' reactions "In 'Tolerate It'... the lyric, "Use my best colors for your portrait", refers to, when she's talking to her friends/family, she's building him up as to be this spectacular husband, and using her best descriptions for him. And also... she starts the song and ends the song with the same 5 words, "I sit and watch you"... in other words, she could have ended it, "break free and leave us in ruins", but she doesn't. She's trapped and just deals with it. This is brilliant song writing. Paints such a vivid picture. Oh and the lyric, "now I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life" might be one of the most painful I've heard. So. Much. Pain.
im sorry but evermore has to be Taylors best written album, I understand it’s overshadowed by folklore but its so superior (i love folklore too) I, personally, feel like evermore just carries such a beautiful message? Its the aches of growing while you’re already grown, reconnecting your past and going back to heal the biggest heartbreak we have, growing up, leaving childhood behind, mourning the child inside of you, this album is absolutely the first time you see yourself in the mirror when you turn 20/30/40/50, its the nothing changing, but the death of something that you didn’t even knew you had. I wrote a lot but the closing track and album name, evermore is just the core soul of this album, that one day you wake up and you realize you ARE gonna live, the day you CHOOSE to love life, romanticize everything. Its life, long story short, youre gonna survive, its such a hopeful album.
As a Bon Iver fan, that Evermore song reaction was me 100%, even the commentary before listening to it lmao, SO REAL. HE WENT SO HARD, YES and I wasn't ready.
Fun fact: folklore stands for the beginnings of relationships, and its situated on spring-summer while evermore is more about the ending of relationships and its located on fall-winter Btw I really loved your reaction of both albums, the edition was on point, I love seeing people appreciate taylors lyricism, and I love every cat screen time
"Happiness" is a gem. Being able to describe so perfectly all the emotions of a the end of a long term relationship, the sadness, the anger, the tenderness, all the while knowing deeply that you will love again, but not now, not yet, you have moments and emotions to go through before. Her writing is absolutely beautiful.

@@uchiha5531 I don't exactly remember all the details, but I think she mentioned that they had been in a long-distance relationship for a while, so that put a strain on them (or at least it did on my mum's side). ima have to give it to champagne problems cuz i don’t even relate that much but it kills me. gold rush is sadder to me because i do relate, the same way all too well is- calling back memories like that when things felt too perfect to be real, like “dancing around the kitchen in the refrigerator light” is just devastating to me. when i can picture it in my head it’s just so painful. the all too well short film literally made me bawl my eyes out for an hour and have a panic attack cuz i couldn’t breathe 😂😂😂 i love taylor

I always imagined ivy to be about a closeted woman who is in love with a woman who has cold hands. Such a great album
some people believe it’s about emily dickinson and sue gilbert. for example “taken mine when it’s been promised to another” is like how they would always hold hands but sue’s hand in marriage was to austin dickinson (emily’s brother) and another example is “he wants what’s only yours” basically saying how much austin wanted sue’s real love but the only person sue really loved was emily. i’m not completely sure it’s about them but the lyrics match perfectly to their situation

fun fact: happiness has a LOT of The Great Gatsby references, such as “the green light” and a direct quote from the book (“I hope she’ll be a beautiful fool”)
She wrote it for her best friend, whose marriage just ended. And the great gatsby is her friend's favorite. In fact her best friend's engagement party has a The Great Gatsby theme. So yeah.

Gold Rush's production is so groovy, but if you focus on lyrics it's actually very sad. She's imagining it all.
The fact that I've now heard Marjorie live makes this hit harder 😭
Legit, watching this again after getting to see her sing with her grandmother in front of 70,000 people has me so unwell.
Marjorie has always made me sad but after seeing Taylor cry while performing it live made me tear up at the concert and now I cry every time I hear it 😭😭
I always loved Marjorie but after watching it live I have such a newfound appreciation for it I was literally crying the entire time
Marjorie is my favourite to watch videos of from the tour.

The fact that in Tolerate it the main character reaches this realization and tells him she could really leave if he doesn't get his shit together... And then the last line ends up with "I sit and watch you" I CAN'T I'M NOT OKAY
Ughh the Renegade reference
The fact that she wrote champagne problems DRUNK always blows my mind out
More evidence of Taylor's pen game:
1. Happiness is theorized to be about Taylor's best friend, Abigail's divorce :(( "7 years in Heaven" adds up to the number of years Abigail dated and was married to her ex-husband. "Shit we're dividing up" has strong ties to the coldness of the divorce process and the lyric: "after giving you the best I had, tell me what's to give after that" parallels "and Abigail gave everything she had to a boy who changed his mind" in Fifteen (A song Taylor wrote for Abigail in her Love Story album)
2. Happiness also references Great Gatsby with "I hope she'll be a beautiful fool" and "Im paralyzed with Happiness" (both Daisy's words)
3. Champagne Problem's bridge "One for the money, two for the show," references a children's rhyme that people sing when preparing to start something (such as used in Blue Suede Shoes by Elvis) except Taylors' is an inversion from the pov of someone ending something :'((
4. Champagne Problem's bridge again:
"Your midas touch on the chevy door, November flush and your flannel cure" is just geniusly poetic for "He opened the car door for me and gave me his jacket cus I was cold"
5. Tolerate It is inspired by a book, Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier
The music her Grandma inspired her to pursue was taken from her
8. Closure is a big middle finger to Scooter Braun HEHEHE
That's all I have so far but this album is rich with poetry. Drop more easter eggs in the replies!
The production in closure sounds like a BIG MACHINE, maybe being destroyed?
Gold rush continues her theme of love being golden. Like in the song daylight.
Scooter and his wife are getting divorced so that’s more of the “your nemeses will defeat themselves before you get the chance to swing” reference
“Never be so clever you forget to be kind, never be so kind you forget to be clever” and “never be so polite you forget your power, never wield such power you forget to be polite” are cheesy words of advice her grandmother said to her. She says “should’ve kept every grocery store receipt because every scrap of you would be taken from me” means all she has of her grandmother is that advice.
It’s time to go is a huge reference to Scott, scooter, and Karlie. She’s leaving her past to take care of her future.
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
@@kenzieaarons5609 the never be so kind/clever line also references the way in which her grandmother's co-host on the show she was on treated her, frequently finding 'clever' new ways to make fun of her bc she couldnt speak spanish and was on a cuban tv show, also a reference to marjorie being kind and ignoring his jabs
I love parts of that song, especially the evermore line and the piano, but I don't really like the vocal part of the man...
I like that it is less popular - it makes it seem very personal and that is something so special with a big artist like Taylor.
ivy is my favorite song of taylor's EVER and i think the thing i love most about it is the detail that the narrator is afraid her husband will "burn this house to the ground," but the rest of the song is about the ivy (love) covering her stone house. she doesn't realize in the midst of her anxiety that he CANT burn their love down. so beautiful.
Just today I realized that then she embraces it. She let us know her husband is gonna burn the house to the ground…but then she just accepts it “So yeah. Its a fire its a goddam blaze in the dark” . I was 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

@@hthazee OMFG I LOVE BONNY & EMILY. You have found the best swifties to team up with.
I've posted this comment before on 'Tolerate It' reactions
"In 'Tolerate It'... the lyric, "Use my best colors for your portrait", refers to, when she's talking to her friends/family, she's building him up as to be this spectacular husband, and using her best descriptions for him. And also... she starts the song and ends the song with the same 5 words, "I sit and watch you"... in other words, she could have ended it, "break free and leave us in ruins", but she doesn't.
