A bit of a 2022 update on the Skybar at Trader's. Seems like they have really caught on to the mini-tripods, and the people working there have a habit of regularly checking on those who have brought cameras to ensure that tripods aren't being mounted on them. I went with a friend and whilst I wasn't using a mini tripod on mine (I did bring one though), a friend of mine tried using his, and a staff member did actually ask to see the bottom of his camera whilst he was using it. Oops. Needless to say, as I've learned from Grey and a few other local photographers, either make yourself a makeshift stable platform out of anything you can find, and/or take multiple bursts, then mean stack them in Photoshop to clear out any noise.
Hi, next time if you are in Malaysia, please contact me, all you need is just to bring your camera and I will provide you all the flash, stands, modifiers, soft box, softwares and locations of the natural locations of my area besides Kuala Lumpur. Temples, religious sites, paddy fields, greenery, natural large ponds and mountains are also available. Feel free to visit us again in Malaysia. Our location consist of nature and historical area. October will have a very a lot of religious events (next to the concerts). Thanks for the video......
Truely fantastic video! Thanks for the tip to head to the Traders Hotel for photos of the Petronas Towers. Does anyone know if you can take kids up there?
I fall in love with street photography recently, bought an entry level camera start shooting and was thinking petaling street were my first spot, saw your channel ,it is beautiful thanks for coming and shoot those nice photo.welcome to visit malaysia again. Keep it up! Yes we agree street photography can't make money,it is our hobby and people smiling face are valuable, cant replace.
i know Im asking randomly but does any of you know a way to log back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Alaric Dayton Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Haha I was one of those people with the Joby's but it was on another day though. I was lucky enough to not get too much attention but also because I ordered some food and drinks to show that I am here to also give them some business. Slapping on my 70-200 to do some closeup shots of the lit crown did keep my senses extra sharp for peering staff, onlookers and the unthinkable scenario where the camera tips over and falls 150m down..The results, totally worth it!
Had not watch your videos in a while, they are still of the highest quality, starting with that fantastic intro.,the absolutely best on UA-cam. The quality of photography info is also stellar. You've got a good thing going EL.
Welcome to Malaysia! 😃 You should go to Penang, you will be amazed by the architecture & heritage buildings. It has been considered as one of the most photogenic cities in Malaysia. You won’t regret!! 😊
When you are in the club but then decided to just stand up close to the window and take THE SHOT. photographer life, which i really love lol. Great video!
Very informative and enjoyable! Great format series, continue the same way! Streets of KL looks so familiar to me, spent some time in that lovely country!
Hey Elia, I'm a Malaysian photographer. You have to try to trek up to "Bukit Tabur" (Google it), it's one of the most gorgeous and spectacular natural scene. Try asking a local to bring up there. It's not too far away from Batu Caves.
Awesome Vid man! It's nice to see someone put a little effort into researching our little country. We seem to be a bit of a vanilla country in terms of being a nice place but not having many interesting things to do but the bukit bintang area is also where I do most of my photography so this guy knows whats up. It's also home to one of my favorite film developers, shoutouts to darkroom8 :)
I have admired your work since the Photographing the World series. I've been through KL 5 times but never got air quality for long shots. Best to you and Naomi.
Elia, Why didn't you use your RRS Multi-clamp? I bought that specifically for places that have a strict no tripod rule. Example: I live here in Las Vegas and wanted to shoot from the top of the Stratosphere. They will not allow a tripod of any type so I used the clamp to attache my Canon 5DSR onto the hand rail. I had at least 3 security guards come and tell me that I cannot use a tripod and I pointed out to them that there isn't a tripod in my gear, I am using a clamp. They gave me a smirk, undoubtedly due to the fact that I circumvented the rule, then left me to finish shooting.
wow I love photographers vlogers there arent a lot of people who do this I am try to do it my self love it I subbed and hope your vlogs can teach me a lot
I got my shot today and showed this video to the staff explaining what I was waiting for. I have no idea how an 8 second exposure is possible. I got fuzz at much faster shutter speeds and had to settle high res mode in the S1R 1/80, ISO 1600. The drinks and food was a splendid way to wait, but I did not dare having the camera balance by itself without the strap around my arm.
I did that exact same trick with the mini-tripod when I went up to the same place on the Eve of Independence Day in Malaysia (called “Merdeka”) to have a shot at taking a picture of the Towers. I couldn’t quite get a golden/blue hour shot but I think the night shot might have worked better for it as it brought out the unique colors of the towers (that were only lit up for this period) much more. Only thing was, my Jedi Mind Trick wasn’t quite strong enough as I was eventually asked to cease using the mini tripod. Either they caught on or my mini pod wasn’t quite mini enough. With all that said, I wasn’t annoyed in the slightest bit because by the time they asked me to cease using the tripod, I already had gotten all my shots in. The keeper shot I have was made up of 12 portrait-orientation photos stitched together in a panorama as the XF 18-55 wasn’t quite wide enough for a single exposure. Definitely worth it.
Love these videos! Took the same shot without tripod, just leaving the camera on the ledge, but had to move it closer to the edge not to capture some of the ledge. Cool place.
Congrats on making it to KL and narrating without making too many clangers for locals to hear. 😉. I love the local scenes when I go back, Petaling Street has evolved a lot since the 1970s. There are notable photogs in KL worth meeting up with by the way
Compelling post, Elia. Great night pics. Don’t think the mini tripod would have been objectionable - my guess is that floor scuffing by regular tripod would be what they are concerned about. How about a bean bag? Is that in your kit? Market has great photo ops for street images.
Nice episode! The twin towers and the dancing water show is so amazing! There is a lovely cityscape if you take the train from KLCC Station towards the end, you can get Petronas and menara tower all in the same shot!
@@derrickrecords if I'm not wrong the station name was Gombak. If you take the underground from KLCC to Gombak from the station you have a really nice view of the city
Thank you very much for the video! its very informative and guide especially for the location and behind the scene!! well explained! awaiting for more videos like this in the future! #fujilove
Whilst I'm not a Malaysian, but I lived in Malaysia for few years and been to all these places in your video. And it made me re-appreciate the beautiful country Malaysia is. Thank you for these emotions. At 2:00 you can see my university in the far back xD
I forgot I was watching UA-cam, that's how good the quality of the video, photo, and story is.
Kian J thank you!

I lived in Malaysia for 18 months and loved visiting Singapore and KL. I lived in Sarawak though, but the nature there is breath taking.
Great video! Yea those little table top tripods come in handy so often :-) I got mine a few years ago after you first mentioned them.

I use the Multi-clamp all the time. However, in this situation, there was nowhere to clamp. :)
I am just following you today, great series, that tripod looks very strong. Which is it? I am in KL right now really enjoying it
Alex Maureira it’s the TFA Ultra by Really Right Stuff.

wow I love photographers vlogers there arent a lot of people who do this I am try to do it my self love it I subbed and hope your vlogs can teach me a lot
i think they only prohibit big and long tripods so as not to obstruct the walkways and seats around the pool.
Love these. Keep them coming.
Elia: said I'm not gonna talk in this sacred place
Iman Ibrahim: "what the fuck, right" in the tokong
Woi hahahaha
