Manual Swapped Jaguar XJ6 Project: Is my XK Engine Junk?

- Welcome back! In this video I'm going to get the 1973 Jaguar XJ6 Project back into the garage, and actually start working on it! I'm really excited about this car; it's a rust-free california car, ultra rare primrose yellow, short wheelbase, converted to manual transmission, and triple SU intake/carb setup from an E-type. Before I dive to deep, I want to check the health of the engine overall, and to do that I'm going to be doing a compression test. What do you think? Is my engine toast or can we bring it back to life?

Love the series 1, yours is a gem being rust free and manual, triple carbs .....definately worth saving
Thanks. Not enthused by it at the moment; didn't realize how annoying the XK engine is to wrench on. Trying to remove the intake manifold right now....
That Jaguar must come back to the road!
Get it running and retest the compressions. Often the rings stick over time and the heat cycle of running it will unstick them from the pistons and your compression will be back
I was thinking the same.👍
I think it will run, then do another compression test after. Good luck
10-4, will do. Time to tear off the carbs!
@@addvancedgarage Gotta do it - a running, rust free XJ is a valuable car. Look forward to your next instalment
Just went and looked at a California Xj6 ser3 ( in Finland)and just gawped at the cleanness of everything. Rust only on rear screen left corner. The seller just had not got around to get it running so no deal but if I find a manual L77 or Getrag 265 I´ll see if it is still there..
I don't know, I had one of those engines laying around and finally PAID the garbage man to take it. I also have a couple of the V12 engines laying around if anyone wants them...plus the transmissions.
Hello mate, aint they beautiful. Your motors got that luvly oil cap.good luck with the project👍👍👍👍👍👍
Dam I love those cars! Actually I like all your projects and videos! Keep up the good content!
Thanks Ryan, will do! Should have updates on this and the Honda very soon!
Those are great cars I saw one that was LS supercharged swapped.
LS is good on paper but the XK engine is pretty cool imho, it won lemans 5 years in a row, has dual overhead cams, and is designed/inspired by a Rolls Royce Merlin V12; the designers/engineers worked on WW2 aircraft prior to creating the XK. I personally would rather have an XK but if it's junk, yeah, LS might be the way.
@@addvancedgarage Yes great motors, luckily you found a Jag with it still in the car. A lot of times its gone, blown to bits or run so ragged its crap.
Sweet wheels on the wall❤
Looks like the XJ has the nice optional chrome steel wheels ?
How did you find a car like this?? Good score. I never have luck with finds like that! I want to see you get this car running and looking forward to it.
I picked up my '73 last summer in decent nick (including one of those aftermarket Ziebart-type cavity and undercoat treatments) with a really nice interior for $1500.
A "rust free" Jaguar is a true world wonder.
Right? So solid! Got a bunch of euro parts to throw at it too!
Dual fuel fillers for export so you can pull up to either side of a fuel pump to gas it up.
Actually you can't do that. the communicating line is too small to do that, you have to fill them seperately.
@@mescko It was a joke
I think I'd run it and re-test
Id say make it run and turn it into a drift car
lol we will see.
