  • Today I discuss my thoughts on the Lauri Markkanen trade rumors. I talk about all the stuff revolving around the Utah Jazz and also a little about how I feel about Golden State Warriors thinking they will get Lauri.
    I hope Lauri stays.

A calm, patient, and mature take on the situation where various media simply attempt to build up the hype. As a fan of basketball, I would love to watch competetive games, but this rebuild is already executed way better than the sh+t show that was Lauri's first 4 w/ the Bulls.

    Some thoughts and facts:
    1. Lauri wants to stay in Utah. His family is happy there.
    2. Lauri wants to compete but he trust the rebuilding. He wants to win with The Jazz
    3. Even if Utah tank with Lauri it can be intresting season. Lauri is still developing and can help the youngsters.
    4. I think that Lauri can stay at the top till he is 35. So he fits the timeline.

I understand that Jazz does want the full 14% Cooper Flagg chance, but losing cant be that hard. I just hope Markkanen does not end up in some dying dynasty before being traded to next destination. NBA has already big enough rotating door problem in my eyes. And selfishly im too invested in rooting for Jazz that i really hope Markkanen will stay, even if it isn't the optimal option for everyone.

I agree. I don’t want Lauri to just be a player that gets traded around all the time.

Remember, the media only gets clicks when they stir up the pot. I can’t see Lauri being moved. He’s got much more value to the Jazz than the warriors can offer. Much more smoke than fire. Danny has zero incentive to trade him

Yes. That’s why I didn’t want to make a video on this because I feel a lot of this is just the media stirring the pot. I would love to see #23 retired for the Jazz someday.

I agree that Lauri have more value than gsw can offer. Spurs in other hand is better situation to offer something bigger if they want to. Pop start to be old, Wemby have rookie contract. They have great opportunity try to win now before Wemby have new contract and Pop retired. Its only matter how much assets they want to use now to this window.

@@finnishview2933 Lauri has actually said he wants to stay with Utah. He enjoys the area and feels at home with Utah. He has a strong relationship with the owner and feels valued, which hasn’t been the case in his previous stops in the NBA.

I have one question for you Spence. How you build around Lauri when nobody really good player want come to utah? All they can get via trade is medicore players at best. That is my main problem if Lauri stays in utah. He never be in playoffs and tank rest of his career if he stays. Ofc jazz may hit jackpot in draft twice, i doubt it but that is only way jazz can be contender before Lauri is too old.
Lauri is family man, and many Finns dont like big cities. I understand why he would like to stay there. After all, family and especially kids are most important thing, work come second.
However i would really like see him play in team what actually try to win games. Tank should be banned in every sport, that ruin everything if half of the teams try lose as much they can. What kind sport is that? Oh yes, its nba.

I have some links that explain how Jazz could still build around Lauri I can send and it will explain it better than I can. I understand wanting to see him in the playoffs as well.
I will say, the way Lauri plays the game can be very sustainable for the next eight years or so, just look at Dirk Nowitzki (who Lauri is often compared to). He was averaging 20+ ppg going into his 15th season. Say Jazz make some trade moves, the youth progress well, in 3-4 years Lauri will still be in his prime and he will have a core of great young players and other good assets obtained through trades to compete with the rest of league. I can see something like that happening. Yes, he could easily get traded but Jazz front office value him more than any other team has and I think that means a lot to Lauri.
I also agree that I hate tanking. I am just observing what I think the Jazz might do. I hate not competing to win but that is how NBA is these days.
From what I’ve heard Lauri and his family like Salt Lake a lot and it reminds him of home. From reports He feels he can win in Utah even if it’s a few years down the road. I think he values his family more than winning. For example, I don’t think he would like San Francisco very much, but he would have a better chance of winning there.
Lots of choices Jazz must make. Rebuilding isn’t easy and it can be very tough to watch. Especially when you want to watch a player compete with all the other big names.

+1 take from a fellow Finn! I really hope to see Lauri in OKC or Spurs. That would be insane. Dont know If Warriors would be nice since since the City is too big for a Finn and team itself seems like in a rough place rn.

You don't know if Warriors will be nice because of the city but you are ready to send Lauri to OKC when he has said that it's one of the places he takes his playstation with him (meaning that he isn't big fan of the city)? 😂😂

You can trade guys to the Utah, they don't exactly have a say in it. It's question if you can extend them or sign-in-trade them or get free agents (but free agency is pretty dead anyway). Also if Lauri is there, there is bigger chance to get someone else too and after them having two more legit guys it's always again easier to get third etc.
