Thank you very much for this, great memories! I flew for TWA 1976/1988, left after the Carl Icahn /Flight Attendants strike of 1986. FAA certified on B707, B747, B727, DC9, L1011, B767 the L1011 remains my favorite aircraft to work in all the sense of the word. We had our issues with the downstair galley elevators but overall the greatest!
My first jumbo jet flight was on a Delta L-1011 in the summer of 1975, JAX-ATL-LAX. My cousin was also an L-1011 captain for Delta. Love these old birds.
I booked to go on holiday to Hawaii in 1990 to fly on their Tri Star, when they came back to me after I booked it with changed arrangments I said I would still go if the aircraft was still the same............ No sir its a , I cant remember, ut it was not Their tristar so I cancelled and got my money back Never did make Hawaii LOL
If all the people that ever flew on an L1011 had driven to their destination instead, I'm sure a far greater number whould have been killed on the roadways. Love the L1011!!!
L1011 Vs. DC10/MD11? Think Mercedes-Benz 600 Vs. Lincoln Town Car. A case of "How good can we possibly make this aircraft?" as opposed to "How quickly & cheaply can we knock these things out?" Lockheed built a masterpiece; McDonnell-Douglas built a killer lemon. Long live the TriStar!!
No doubt. RyanBomar is the champion of these genere of videos. One of the most enjoyable scenes of a flight, is landing. And here we have some of them in the original colors of the original airlines. Personally the one that really "blew my mind" is the one in Eastern colours. Thanks Again RyanBomar
@sfrenchhorn07, it's always worth the effort as long as someone's enjoying it and I'm glad both of you are. I always appreciate your comments and tell your Dad that he's my hero for working on the L-1011! Out of curiousity, do you and your Dad live local? I'd like to take you both out to lunch and if you wanted to meet Craig (the videographer) you could do that, we could also pick a VHS video from his collection and we could dust it off and take a look at it and upload the highlights.
My first airplane ride was an Eastern Airlines L-1011 from Boston to Orlando to go to Disney World, probably around 1979 or so. It was very memorable, the flight was all about Disney World, I think Eastern even passed out Mickey ears. For a 9 year old kid it was an absolute blast. The pilots let my brother and I sit in the cockpit seats when we arrived.
I've always thought the 1011 was a better designed aircraft. For instance, Lockheed designed number two engine into the airframe. Unlike the DC-10 where the number two engine looked like an after thought.
A beautiful and popular plane at its time. Meanwhile a flight in, say, an A330 or 350 might be better. Never mind, there is only one TriStar left, the Stargazer.
Another great one Ryan, boy do I remember that HA L1011 use to have some looong takeoff rolls. When he took off on the North runways he used just about every bit of that runway, and always went to Tom Bradley when he took of on the South runways!
Bull! I have maintained L1011's for 10 years and DC-10's for 15... there's nothing cheap about either of them. I've maintained 727's for 25 years and 757's for almost 20. They all are similarly manufactured, same processes used in the 747. So, no 747's have ever been lost?
and if all the people who flew on an L1011 had flown on a 747, they would still be here it's a cool looking plane. i like DC-10's as well but those tri-jets were designed quickly and made cheaply because of deregulation. they were giant flying yugos
ockteby - The public fly on whatever aircraft is provided, for the most part. The L-1011 was not made in large numbers, but where it was used the public certainly flew on it. The large trijets became obsolete when rules changes allowed two-engined airliners to fly on transoceanic routes.
Thank you very much for this, great memories!

I love the 1011 - best plane of all
Lockheed Martin you’ve got to make an improved version of this beauty. We would think of you a lot better. I LOVE THIS PLANE!
So true!
@@strafrag1 Using three Trent 1000
If LM were to make airliners today, they would be twinjets.

Two weeks ago i saw 4 of this Queens stored in Amman!
The very first time I flew in a plane was on an Eastern Airlines 1011 airliner back in October 1976.

Absolutely AWESOME like all of your videos!!
what a beautiful bird!
Greatest airliner in history!

I think that thr TriStar is still the best plane every.

great flying plane, I flew on one from LAX to Hawaii and it was still the best flight I have ever been on

See, that right there is pure class! I'm pretty sure that shaped your love for aviation.
The worlds best flying machine. EVER ! Unfortunately only had the pleasure of it once. A great flight and a great plane.
I flew on several TWA's L-1011's, great flights. A flight attendant gave me a bottle of wine as I exited the plane.I still like TWA's 747's better.

Eastern Airlines L-1011’s always looked so dirty in the late 80’s very early 90’s. When their lower paint scheme was white they looked sharp.
I flew TWA L1011 STL-BOS and return in the 80's. Glad I got to do it on TWA!
i really miss those L-1011s i wish they still flew :(
I WONDER IF MY LATE FRIEND TWA CAPTAIN LARRY COSGROVEVEVER FLEW THESE"""

Eye candy and vintage LAX, love it !!!
Por qué razón se sacó de producción y acción este avión ?
the l-1011 killed lockheed's commercial aviation business and 569 people
The Hawaiian air L-1011 was the one used for Die Hard II
@Starboard76, unfortunately he didn't capture it on this one. I'm sure he may have it in another video so I'll be looking in the future.
The L-1011 nose looks swollen.
Air Canada also flew the L-1011 TriStar. To the best of my knowledge the TriStar was used on its trans-Atlantic services.
I've got her on the channel as well: ua-cam.com/video/0jW9vTStlLs/v-deo.html
Once again thanking U a lot Ryan for this perfect post...:)
So storms down south and pilot errors are the fault of Lockheed designers eh?
Good thing melodramatics such as these don't work for the bran.

Last 2 seconds of the video has the L1011 taking off, a United 737-200 landing, and a 727 waiting to cross. Good times...I miss those days
Elegant plane !!!✈✈✈✈✈✈
I love this plane, hope once I could fly on it, just once at least....
i flew on one of these when i went to flordia in 97 great plane are they still around
en el 1986 viaje a nueva york desde Puerto Rico por $200.dol ida y vuelta
What do you prefer ? Tri Star or DC 10 ?
TriStar by Far. DC-10 looks like they just stuck the 3rd Engine in the middle of the Rudder. The Lockheed L-1011 was a way better looking TriJet.
interesting how high of an angle they flare at while landing.
LTU would later become part of airberlin.
and if all the people who flew on an L1011 had flown on a 747, they would still be here

they were giant flying yugos
I never felt safe on the DC-10.
For the ntsb... Danged auto correct!
The public never did accept this beautiful airplane, and I guess they are all hauling cargo now.

What Made the L1011 safer then the DC-FAIL(10)?
DalekZ - More redundancy in the hydraulics system, which saved the aircraft when an engine two failure damaged the hydraulics.
there are 569 dead people who would disagree with you
if they could
Great posting,Thanks.
Great videos of great planes! Thank you!
