Used to travel on these as a kid. LAX to ATL. The L-1011 was my favorite passenger jet when I was a boy. I am now 52 years old and the L-1011 is still my favorite passenger jet...Of all time.
Oh boy! Delta L-1011 jump seat video from the 80’s! Truly aviation history. Back in the day of triple INS and Omega Nav. So glad this video came across. Those were the days. Fly Delta Jets
Remember the DC-10? I know that that plane had some catastrophic crashes but, once McDonnell Douglas found and fixed the problems, it became one of the safest place in the skies. I loved that plan!
what a great way to remember the classic days of real jets - I flew on the dash-500 so many times with BA, BWIA, Delta and the RAF - I'll never forget the hum of those RB211's
You can tell that captain has a lot of experience by the way he hand flies that airplane. I’m guessing he has many hours in the old propellers aircraft.
The Tri-Star was ahead of its time, let down by development and production delays meaning most potential customers found other aircraft for their needs. Such a shame. Thank your for uploading this!
I remember flying on a Delta L-1011 once. Think it was late 90s or early 2000s. I remember not many people on the flight and the pilot flew the thing like a fighter jet. Cranking and banking and step take off. It was great!
I was very fortunate to have flown on an L-1011. I was only 7 years old, but I remember it well. It believe it was the 500 long range variant I was on.
Back in the day when pilots were actually pilots and hand flew the airplane all the way to altitude and were not just technology babysitters like now a days.
This model has to be the most quietest aircraft there’s been so far. During take off , flight , landing …. Is there more current model that matches up ?
Wow all man crew when no women were up front complaining about their period or boyfriends or husbands or kids. And no computers have taken over yet when you had to fly the planes by hand most of the time.
Ridiculous the L1011 could fly a complete flight from takeoff, cruise, approach and cat lll 0 visibility landing by itself . This model was delivered new to Delta in 1973
Yup. Just a bunch of grumpy old men griping about their 6 figure paychecks. They also hand-flew for maybe all of 6 minutes before putting on the autopilot in this video, moron.
What are you talking about? After V1 it’s procedural to remove your hand from the throttles. In the climb the throttles are at a fixed power and Thrust Management/Autothrottles are typically on. He did nothing remotely unsafe.
oh really? airplanes have crashed because the "auto" function of the throttles have failed and the throttles rolled back or not advance when they needed to and airplanes run out of speed and stall. Every airlines I have worked with requires the flying pilot to have hand on throttle...You sound like some idiot enthusiast. shut the hell up if you have zero experience in flying. @@HEDGE1011

Dad was mechanic for TWA, mom gate for Eastern and the Tri was the smoothest ride to this day! 52 as well in 24🎉

It’s 1995
Aah the tri stars! What great jets they were.

Flew on them while in the Marines, rotating over to Okinawa from California a couple of times - always a smooth ride. Beautiful jet.

I was on L1011-500 SuperTriStar when I was 9. Cathay Pacific.
15:00 + 16:00 Captain flying with one hand like a boss. Perfect video
My father flew these old girls for BA - he always said that you could fly them with your finger tips they were so responsive and a delight to work on.
It's very possible I was on this plane; I know I flew MUC-ATL on a DL L-1011 around this time.
You weren't lol
Don’t Lie😂😂😂😂😂

For a second I thought they were gonna drive to ATL
It’s fun to hear these great pilots go through the checklists. Like a well oiled machine! Just like the airplane itself.
Great video! I miss the TriStars, but not the old Munich airport.
That's not the OLD Munich airport :)
The Munich airport in the video is the new one as this was shot in 1995 while the old Munich Airport closed in 1992
L-1011 heavy
No Mike they're downstairs now
I love the bits of German in the radio chatter.
T/O roll begins @10:45
Glory days

The L1011 has autopilot and can land itself so they have computers and autopilot but not LCD screens

@@Jeff-sp7bg not 1973. The -500s were developed and produced later. Approx. 1978-1983.
Guard the fucking throttles, Captain!!!! So much for these delta professionals!!
