Then we see an Airbus A300B4-103 N202EA (cn 042), I have no departure footage sorry.
Lastly, we have another Lockheed L-1011-385-1 TriStar 1 taxi by and takeoff Runway 25R. N334EA (cn 193A-1141)

The L-1011 is such a beautiful aircraft
My father was an Eastern captain from 1946 to 1976. I happened upon this almost by accident and it brought back so many memories! I was on my dad's last flight on the day he retired. It was the last leg of a flight (on a 1011, I believe, as that was what he flew at the end) that was supposed to be a ferry back from BOS to EWR, but an American flight was cancelled and Eastern picked up those passengers. Just before landing, the flight attendant announced that my dad was retiring, and the crew and all the passengers gave him a round of applause. It was a great airline and he was the best father anybody could have ever hoped for. Both he and Eastern are greatly missed. Darn it, now I need a box of tissues! Thanks for posting this clip.
Wonderful sentiments
Yes. I worked for Eastern for 10 years as a Mechanic. Wherever I flew, the people at the ticket counters made me feel like family. At work if there was a anniversary or for any reason, someone brought in donuts. Whenever I wanted First Class, I could get it. After probation I was on 1st shift with part of the weekend. Though I am very thankful for my present job at American, after 28 years I am at the bottom of 2nd shift. Maybe that was part of the problem at Eastern, they were too nice to the employees. Really, I think it was management and the union not willing to give and take. Thanks for the memories!
copywriternj if they said the pilot was retiring today, the passengers would be like, "oh. Ok. Whatever." So ignorant these days.
great memory nice to see things like this rather than "first" and other crap i hope your father is still flying high in the sky
I personally liked the livery! ....and loved the TriStar!!
Worked for Eastern Airlines in the late 80's,miss my L10-11
The happiest days of my life were spent working on those beautiful planes. As an Eastern F/A from 1979- 1988, incredible memories were made there. Jet fuel will always run through my veins :) I love you and miss you, EAL!
Wow. Brings back memories and dreams. My father a main. overhaul forman, first at Dulles then Miami and finally at Atlanta, Where I became an employee. As a kid I had a huge collection of EAL wings that the pilots would give to children that were invited into the cockpit. To my father after 28 years of devotion without full retirement and to the many other GOOD men and Women that made Eastern a wonderful place to be, "HERE'S TO YOU"! and GOD BLESS
I was an A&P line mechanic for Eastern in Miami for 18 years. This video sure brings back a lot of fond memories.
Great footage and at :38 that sweet sweet L1011 music. Gawd that was one outstanding aircraft, out of sight out of mind, that's why videos from the past are so important.
The TriStar L-1011 was the best airliner ever made!
You got that right! I'm sitting here and actually have tears in my eyes, watching those beautiful Tri-Stars. Ask any ground, flight or cabin crew member that worked on or flew an L-1011, and you'll hear nothing but love and respect for that plane. Thank you, Lockheed!
That L-1011 looks just like the first one I ever saw. The Lord Jesus Christ told me all about it and said that I had taken a liking to a truly distinguished airplane.
@@JClark-34695 God bless you Clark! NO TRUER WORDS HAVE BEEN SPOKEN!!!
One of the most beautiful liveries on one of the most beautiful planes
I would love to see LM reenter the commercial airline industry again.
Back when flying was fun. Those days are gone forever.
Lower prices attract trash and scum
Sad but TRUE... SO MANY DIFF AIRLINES AND AIRCRAFT
WITH BEAUTIFUL LIVERIES ABD GREAT IN BOARD SERVICES
We said deregulation would bring fewer airlines fewer choices. Higher prices lower safety standards. Frank Lorenzo and Carl Icon took the money and ran.
I flew on Eastern's L1011s many times. A great airline and a great plane. Miss them both!
Did you ever fly on the A300? Which plane is better the A300 or the L10 11 from Eastern?
+Davey74Boy I think the A300 is a better money maker for the airlines as there are only two engines and two in the cockpit saving quite a bit. Airbus has proven its self after all these years as reliable and easy to work on.
+Davey74Boy I forgot to add I am a little biased for the L1011 though as I worked for Lockheed in Palmdale, Ca for 3 years building the L1011.
+Wayne Hendricks same goes for the 727 versus the DC9. Two engines vs 3 and 2 pilots vs 3 upfront for the 727
I worked for EAL for 10 years and loved flying both planes. It's sad that a combination of bad management and unhelpful unions destroyed it.
I was a Flight Attendant for Eastern from mid 90’s until our demise. Our Boeing 757 was my all time favorite to work on, however I did do a lot of Miami to South America Flights and I did love the L1011, the sound of those 3 engines as they spooled up and the slight vibration of them right as the plane started its Take Off Roll was always So Thrilling. And the Lower Galley was awesome.
Boy do O miss those Flying Days in my life! ✈️💺🛩️
I remember Eastern. This was one of the first planes that I flew on when I was a young boy. We moved from North Carolina to California. Thank God we moved back years later. Flew on Eastern coming back. I'll always remember that. It was a big part of my life.
OH MY GOSH!!! My Daddy flew those BEAUTIFUL eastern 1011s!! make me weepy.
What a beautiful! I flew for Eastern Airlines as a STEWARDESS 1966-1968. A thrilling Career .wonderful memories!!
Flew on the l10_11 many times on eastern. That plane was so advanced for its time and put rolls Royce engines on the map and were the best and most advanced at the time. You don’t realize how big it really was until you were in it.
As a former employee of 26 years with EA, I don't know how to feel about these images! They're beautiful, as were all the EA aircraft, regardless of their livery. At one time I was in the scheduling department at 10 Rock. In all honesty, I just want to thank RyanBomar for having posted these superb images/videos! Earlier today I read that some organization calling itself "PeopleExpress" is planning a "new" airline! For anyone out there, your thoughts, and remembrances of this subject? Shades of FL! Only old-timers will guess the name of the aforementioned FL. Best to all who watched this most elegant of clips!
varadero
varadero1839 Frank Lorenzo?
Ex Eastern employee too,miss Eastern!
Weren't they in business and then folded ?
EXCELLENT POST!!! Well said!!!
I believe it was about 1978 or 1979, my Dad took us to Disney World. We flew round trip from Boston to Orlando on an Eastern Airlines L-1011. As a child of 8 or 9, it was absolute magic, to me it was better than Disney World. I was absolutely fascinated how flight happened. The flights to Orlando were special on EAA, I remember they gave us kids Mickey ears and the flight crew were all about Disney World, it was all extremely exciting as a child. The pilots invited my brother and I in to see the cockpit, I still have an old photo of us in their seats with hands on the yoke and pilot hats on our heads. They were so good to us kids. Thanks for posting this up Ryan.
I'll never forget the first time I flew as an unaccompanied minor, Summer 1970 JFK - HOU. The Eastern Airlines 727 pilot pulled that U-turn at the end of the taxiway onto the active runway with a swag! I still remember thinking, "How cool is that?" as we all swung to the right and then back to level in our seats! I've never again experienced such a pedal to the metal turn. Seeing this livery brings me back to when I was younger, and lived under the final (Canarsie) approach to JFK. EAL 727s, DC-9s, DC-8s, were so common to see on final in those long ago days. Still, unlike others, I prefer flying today due to how much safer it is, the ban on smoking, and how you can work your miles on British Airways (at least I did in 2009) to upgrade to Club World. And with a little charm and sophistication, get a full English (not even on offer in Club World in 2009) + reserved seats on the upper deck gratis. Don't know how I managed it, but I'm enternally grateful to the employees who helped me do it!
Love it. Thank you. Flew 727’s for Eastern for 13 years. Great people and company. Sadly missed
L-1011 TRI-STAR. WHAT A JET. RODE THOSE SO MANY TIMES BACK IN THE 80'S. MIAMI AND SOUTH ACROSS THE SHIMMERING CARRIBEAN TO BOGOTA. BEST MEMORIES RIDING THESE BEAUTIES DOWN TO SENIORITA LAND, WOW, THOSE WERE THE DAYS.
This was my favorite airline I always fly Eastern airline every time I watch videos from Eastern tears on my eyes I use to seat on a wood box when I was a kid by the end of the Runway by a old hangar to see Eastern Take off when they Rotate was my best Experience now you can’t because we loose Our freedom.
This is Tristar heaven here absolutely love this aircraft thanks for posting this wonderful piece of history Ive got goosebumps folks
What a story,Eastern Airlines.I am a native Miamian,(Eastern Airlines home base).Makes me proud. Founder and the man who made it the largest airline in the world,Eddy Rickenbacker. Also a world war 1 Air Force fighter hero. What a vision.Another business destroyed by unions and strikes.
Your vintage uploads are some of the best aviation videos I've seen....great work!
Thank you, I loved our beautiful 1011s
Thanks for posting. I searched today because of a story on CNN of a group attempting the bring the Airline back. I started at Eastern in 89 right out of high school (Mia Killian Sr)I started as a buffer on the L1011 #333. It was completely gutted in the hangar. A couple weeks later an apprentice program was started and I through the apprenticeship I was able to work on parts that where installed on that aircraft,so to see #334 ......thanks for allowing me to journey down memory lane. Good times...good times.
Sorry, you make me ill I was an Eastern mechanic from '67 to'89.
My dad was flew with eastern for 36 years up till his retirement with very high senority as a Capt. and I worked for EAL for two years as a gate agent. Eastern was really a family, sorry to no longer see them around.
That was awesome! I flew Eastern so much as a child and was lucky to fly the Tristar many times! A Beautiful aircraft!
Flew from Puerto Rico to NYC in 1973. Eastern Airlines...las alas del hombre. Eastern Airlines has its history...especially from the 70's..but was ALWAYS. "NUMBER ONE AIRLIiNE".
What a freaking beautiful bird she is!!!!! ❤️
OH MY GOD! Those were certainly the good ol' days!!! I used to fly as a passenger on EA from LAX to MCO, (The flight was an L 10, and it was a midnight supper flight) EA was the best!! Miss those days!!
Loved that plane always got on the plane when going to Puerto Rico
I flew on an Eastern L1011 from Miami to Santa Domingo in 1985 (was 10 years old then). Also before then, an Eastern MD80 from Kansas city to St. Louis, St. Louis to Miami (stayed on aircraft in St. Louis, remember those days when they let you do that). And in 1987, we took an Eastern 727 from Kansas city to Philadelphia. All of these trips were the same thing returning as going. We went to Dominican Republic for a winter beach vacation (I loved going somewhere where it was 85° in December), and my grandparents lived in Philadelphia
Likewise from kord to Tjsj 🇵🇷!From my hometown to my country back in the 80’s.My dad worked for them and still have my wings and even steel forks and knives .✌🏼
One of the most beautiful liveries on one of the most beautiful planes!
Definitely, the L-1011 TriStars are my Favorite, especially in the Eastern Airlines colors.
Nice memories of the good old days of travel. Quality and quantity. Those L1011's were the Cadillacs of the sky.
Oh My Gosh! Eastern’s L10-11 Tristar! I so loved flying with Eastern, and when I got the chance to be on an L10-11. I so wish they could make a comeback, and I’m not talking about the poor attempt down in Miami.
Miss Eastern, they were great to fly on!
Two of my favorite airplanes to work from the Eastern days.
seeing this made me have tears my grandfather worked for eastern as ground crew
Ryan,Thanks for this great posting,I worked at EA for 21 years part of that time was at LAX.
Wow, wow, wow!!!!! I miss those days on the whisper jets!!
My dad worked for Eastern from 1966 until they went bankrupt in 1990, Saddest day for my dad! He loved his job and the airline. We too as his family who took many trips! Wonderful airline. Wish they never went out of service.
Tristar RB-211 engine amazing sound.
First EASTERN DC-8 I SAW IN ATLANTA
IN ORIGINAL LIVERY WOW SO BEAUTIFUL
STILL HEAR THE SCREAM OF THENGINES AS IT PARKED
Great video, congratulations!
I'm brazilian and i am fan of the american airlines as Pan Am, TWA, etc.
Never work there but I am an airline geek Eastern was my favorite. I loved the color scheme, that hockey stick light and ionosphere blue DC8's DC9's L-188 electras L-1011's Eastern forever
My grandma used to work for eastern right until they went out of business. She also lived right under the approach path for one of JFKs runways so planes always flew over head at like only a few hundred feet. And back then planes were much louder so they shook the house whenever then flew over
Great ! Thank you !
Best regards, from Brazil.
My father Frank "Tex" Owens flew the inaugural L-1011 for EAL. He also flew the A300. He was with them to the end. He was based in MIA. Found out he lost his job on the news. We all loved EAL, but Frank Lorenzo left a bad taste in our mouth the way he ran the Airline into the ground.
I worked at DCA for Eastern for 16 years. I was proud of being an Eastern employee. Till Lorenzo killed it
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for posting this. I flew Eastern almost exclusively at least once per month for years as I was in the travel industry from 1979 to 2000. I have truly missed them.
EXCELLENT, nothing beats the sounds that the Tristar 1/100 makes! Especially as they apply full power with that deep moo sound and it transitions over to that buzz saw sound!
Eastern owned Miami and the Caribbean my mom worked for them for 20 years grew up flying them was a premier carrier
Thank you for this Eastern is long gone and reminds me of my childhood.
I think these are more beautiful than the 737 800...
Totally... from the 70s and 80s, L 1011 was consider the most advance aircraft...
@@drpardito6031 was it really the most advanced? which is smoother 747 or a L1011?
*y e s*
@Andy Rattan, Eastern used Boeing jets often on its route network, beginning with the 720, followed by the 727 and 757 (also powered by Rolls-Royce RB211 engines); of which it was the launch customer in the case of the latter two. All were built in Renton, while it also briefly operated the Everett-built 747. It also flew the DC-8, DC-9 and DC-10 from Boeing heritage company McDonnell Douglas.
I grew up in Miami in the 70s and 80s. Eastern's home base I believe. Seeing the plane with that Eastern logo makes me feel nostalgic for my childhood. Picking my grandma up from the airport when she'd visit. Going with her to visit cousins and my first airplane flight. Seeing that plane taxi, lift off and slowly disappear serves as a metaphor for Eastern Airlines. Such a major part of the area I grew up in , now its a memory slipping farther away and getting smaller in my mind's eye.
One of my favorite aircraft ever... flew on a couple of EA L-1011's as a kid. Thanks for posting.
Thanks sooo much. I do so miss EAL!!!!
Waaooo nice job ... This is another great classic and nostalgic video from a wonderful era in aviation. And I love the L-1011 and its resemblance with the DC-10. Thanks for sharing this great piece of history.
Former EAL f/a and now AA. Nothing compares to EAL. Still miss it and the 1011's.
Sometimes I watch Stephen King's LANGOLIERS just to get up close and personal with this MAJESTIC aircraft!!!
I flew for Eastern as an F/A for 13 years out of SJU and MIA, loved the L-1011 my favorite out of the whole fleet.😎
Looong TO roll compared to airplanes of today!
My dad worked for American Airlines, the widebodies of yester-year.. the DC-10 & 767. I miss my dad, but I love watching these planes.
American's Boeing 777-200s, at least most of them, are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines. The Trent owes much of its lineage to the RB211.
Always nice to see Eastern Airlines...Being a Florida Guy I do miss seeing their Tails over the other side of the terminal building
WOW !THANKS 4 POSTING MAN U MADE MY DAY,THE L10 11 WAS MY FAVORITE NO WONDER KING HUSSAIN OF JORDAN MADE IT HIS PERSONNEL JET!
@Soloman Pilot: is he still using it? I tried to find a photo of it recently. I remember when he had it stored for maintainance at Dallas Love field in the late 90’s. I was a flight engineer/2nd Officer on the L-1011 in the mid 90’s. Amazing airliner!
Royal Jordanian Airlines had L-1011 TriStars in its fleet some years ago.
@loaferguy73, one reason for that was the Rolls-Royce RB211 engines that powered it.
Wow, fantastic video. This brings back great memories of the time I flew from NYC to LAX on Eastern in their L-1011. Still have a plate from them with their L-1011 on it. It was handed out to all kids on board :-) Wonderful aircraft.
Outstanding! I knew someone out there had to have good Eastern video. Excellent quality. Thank you.
I flew on an Eastern l-1011 back in 1988. Miami to Lima, Peru. Loved it! Thanks for the video!
I watched another vid of a guy walking down the S duct of the #2 engine of a L1011. You would not believe how large it is! A full grown man walking upright with a few feet to spare over his head. Incredible! My favorite other than the 747. Great video!
such beautiful planes....
Brings back memories of flying out of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Thank you so much Ryan! Makes my heart leap!
Lockheed TriStar. WOW!
Best airline in the 80's !! That's when you had a choice of three different entrees and that was in coach !!!!
Now we have pretzels. Back in 1990 I went From LGA to MCO and had nice scrambled eggs.
Wow! Lots of memories of the EA and DL L10s at the observation deck at the old 1961 Hartsfield terminal! Never forget the growl of the RBs
As a child, I always wanted to work for EAL (wasn't exactly sure...just knew I wanted to work "with the the airplanes". I quit GaTech in fall of '72 to go to work for Eastern. After 3 weeks training in MIA (in late Nov.) I was "blown away" with the concept of pass-riding. I and another new employee flew MIA-JFK-ATL (1st class on the L-1011) to get home and arrived same time as those who had sat in MIA waiting for MIA-ATL nonstop. I LOVED Eastern and miss it...went on to BN...miss it too
NICE! The first and only time I flew on an L1011 Tristar was an Eastern flight to P.R. 35 years ago (July 1980). Nice big ride!
Great memories!
those were easterns last days, when the airbus came. my company fueled eastern and that a300 was my first airbus. I hated it. but I appreciate the memory much, thx. the only part of LA I miss.
@NIGHTWHMAN I sure miss Eastern,I was with them for 21 years.
The Lockheed L-1011, the Airbus A300 and the Boeing 727 were the best airplanes EA had in its fleet.
Don't forget the DC-9 Whisperjet.
I remember flying Eastern Airlines as a kid with my mom. We always flew from Logan Airport to LaGuardia every other week to visit my uncle, aunt and their daughter. Was scary at first, but got used to hearing the roars of the engines. Sadly, Eastern Airlines went bankrupt.
Great airline my dad was a captain on the 757dc 9 and 727 he was also a pilot on the the a300 and l1011 went down to Mexico City with him such great memories
I flew on eastern so many times! I sure miss it😑when eastern went under I went on USAIr..now they are gone😣miss the old days!
Wonderful AC
Beautiful!
all yr posts are really excellent Ryan...Many thanks...Greetings from Turkey...
Thank you very much for showing this video! I worked for EAL from 79-89 as a Mechanic and the L1011 was one of the planes. If EAL flew these planes full like today's planes I think EAL would still be around though unions and management is another topic. Thanks.
Quite simply magnificent footage!!!
I admire Craig's shooting style, this is a style I myself have adopted for shooting at Heathrow- -
It's footage like this that UA-cam was invented for!!!
Great stuff, as always!
Was my favorite airplane to work!
love the Eastern livery!
Recordar es vivir....fue maravilloso pertenecer a esta compañía
N202EA was the A-300 he flew on his last flight with eastern from JFK to West Palm back in 1987...Great Footage!
My first flight ever was on an Eastern L1011 from JFK-MCO February of 1975.
@CAY017Aharon Thanks!! I enjoy all your videos showing great educational value of historic jet airline planes!!!
Eastern and Delta were both similar in the 1980s, they both had many L1011s but had hardly any 747s. They both had many 727s and some MD80s. 727s and L1011s were what both airlines had the most of throughout the 80s. With Delta, both types of aircrafts were gradually phased out throughout the 90s and gone by 2000. And with Eastern, they went out of business entirely in 1992
really nice i flew L1011 there is a long time...
Eastern had one of the best liveries flew their " whisperliner" many times they were once the official disney world airline and had their own ride called if you had wings Deltas dreamflight took over for a while but back in the day when i flew to florida it usually National or Eastern that we were booked on miss them both!!
Excellent - LOVE LOVE LOVE EAL! BRING IT BACK!
