It's wild, ive driven every road along the river, never seen it from the air before. Lived on the CT river my whole life. Whether all the way up in VT where it starts where I was raised as a boy, and White River Junction. Lived as a teenager and went to school in Moodus, left for several yeara and am back in East Haddam with my three girls. Thanks for the great video.

Used to take my exspess cruiser up and down the river. Got smart and sold it 25 years ago. Nice video. I even saw the Pratt & Whitney facility in Middletown, where my son works.
I worked for New England Power and worked on all the power plants from Ct Yankee up to the 1st Connecticut Lake hydro on the Vt - NH border. Beautiful 👍

Beautiful! Spent my high school years in Old Lyme in the 60's Spent a lot of time on that river. Been in Arizona for 40+ years now, but I visit the old stomping grounds frequently in MSFS2020, particularly Goodspeed!

Yes! I believe lake Zoar is involved in that route? I was there when I was younger on a friend's boat, there was a rope swing I used to fling myself into Zoar.
2:59 In the middle of the screen, you can see the site of the former CT Yankee nuclear power plant. Slightly up and to the left of the clearing, you can see the dry casks where they store the spent nuclear fuel rods. They’re still stored there bcuz we don’t have a national repository yet for nuclear waste.
The RNAV approach into Hartford is flown right above them, that is published by the FAA Approach plate. The waypoint is called WEGOT. Its perfectly fine to fly there.

Used to have a Grumman Tiger hangared at Brainard (HFD) in Hartford. Took this trip up the river not only south, but north as well to Greenfiekd, MA where it merges with the Deerfield River. In the fall with the leaves coloring… awesome flight.
When you flew up north did you get a Squawk code due to being close to Charlie? This sounds like an awesome Idea. I have been avoiding North of Brainard but maybe I need to venture 360....
@@AlphaKilo.Warrior I did contact BDL. Was given a squawk code and a heading to steer straight with the north bound runway. Outside CHARLIE, went back to 1200 squawk.
@@AlphaKilo.Warrior I don't anymore, but about 10 years ago I did a lot of tournaments on the river. I like fishing the river, but all of the no wake zones really turn a day of fishing into more of a time management exercise.
The no wake zones extend across the whole of the river in those sections, so there is no getting around them. There is a map, which I would use during my trips, but it can only give you an idea of what you have to deal with. Other factors like size of the channel and overall boat traffic can slow progress through the no wake zones like construction or rush hour traffic on the highway.
I promise I won't forget about my Massachusetts friends. So far, I have Westfield-Barnes and Worchester airports visited this year in previous videos. The CT River North has about 5 votes so that's my next journey. Thanks for checking in fellow pilot, see you in the pattern.

There was a grass field about 5 miles North of Waterbury that we'd watch gliders and GA operate from when we were kids. Any chance you could fly over Watertown, Thomaston and that old strip? Much appreciated if possible!

Thanks for the idea. I will add it to my list of places to visit in 2024, I really love interesting approaches! Earlier this year Danbury Runway 35 got me all nervous. I plan on conquering that approach.
I loved trains and still do when I was a kid. My mother took me on that train when I was 8 or 9, and I was in another world. I must have looked like a little nerd with my bowl haircut going to each window I could find. Good times.

@@rickguyer5236 I think I may have lost my “window” for this optimal Fall flight. Weather and a temporary flight restriction due to a UConn game grounded me the past 2 weeks…you can get a sample of the fall foliage by watching my return to 42B Goodspeed however.

fall colors over the valley are almost always great

Try the short runway at Fishers Island. It's a nice ride and the short runway has water both ends. Interesting approach.
