It was mentioned in the video, but should be stressed, make sure the exit point is not submerged at the Ct River before you enter. It is common for the the river to be higher than the roof of the conduit at the exit, while the entrance level can appear to be safe.
Yeah, if you're going to do it I recommend dropping your car off at the end first. That way you can look at the exit and make sure there's plenty of clearance before you take an Uber back to Pope Park (where you have already dropped off the canoes or kayaks) and go in the other side. And then your car is waiting for you when you're done.
To Paula, what business did your family have? I'm from Wethersfield as well; and my grandfather had Wethersfield Electric. Unfortunately none of his children wanted to continue the business. I would have done it, but he passed in 1973.
I've lived in Hartford l remember my kids used to go there without my knowledge l found out l was worried and mad lived in Hartford more than 20 years now I live in Virginia Beach love it 20 years now
I grew up across from the Armory. We used to go down to the opening there and walk in a few feet, turn on our flashlights and see the BIG river rats. We then decide to leave. Did you come across any on your travels?
I took this trip about 20 years ago and there was an area called “the pit” which was about 150 feet deep. Although this trip is fascinating it is not safe. I would not recommend taking this trip to anyone!
Well that's interesting. We didn't use a depthfinder but that's pretty terrifying to think about. Do you happen to remember roughly which spot that is? Most of it was really shallow but there were a few spots where we didn't check
Damn that is scary to think about. Upon futher research those are run off pits that go 100-150ft down to secondary tunnels of flow out to some other water source. You sort have to go off the main path sort of speak to be bear them.
@@motess5304 Yeah, the big pit is an overflow channel in the junction room. You can stop there, get out and get up on the side and look down into it. When I've been in there it was quite a way down just to get to the water. You don't want to fall in.
If I remember correctly it was the right one. Apparently there are steam vents that discharge into the left side, I found that while researching before we did it.
love the vocalizing in this great resonant chamber! about 3min in

You would think more people would stress this point

Hi, great vid, I’m coming from out of state. Is there a way to find out the water level for the exit before coming? I want to come this May.
Should have brought a better flashlight so we could see the entire inside of the tunnel.
Wow! My family's business was in Hartford for over 80 years and grew up in W ethersfield. I had no clue it was there

That's crazy!
From Hartford, very cool.
Dope video
How do you know if you can get throw the tunnel on the other side
Go there first and check, leave your car at the end and Uber back to the entrance...
Which direction or tunnel do you take once you hit the main junction you talked about or mentioned?
If I remember correctly it was the right one. Apparently there are steam vents that discharge into the left side, I found that while researching before we did it.
did anyone else notice their toes curling when the guys where trying to walk through the mud at the end? lol
But what about the fish did anybody decide to go fishing at all in there
I visited and You don't even need a line, you can reach right into the river and pick up a fish with your bare hands.
An interesting video. Very interesting, indeed.
Glad you enjoyed it

Lived on Babcock & Park Terrace with my family as a kid. We used to call it The Hog. Was stinky.
Pretty dull trip.
